A great in depth guide to all of the major battles and key figures of World War 1.

Some of the best bits are descriptions from people who were there at the time. Some very poignant poetry and even mention of Adolf Hitler.

The saddest sections were those related to the use of gas in the trenches by both sides.

If you want a very brief summary of the major battles that took place in Europe during the World War 1, this book is for you. It is easy to read thanks to the writer's attempts to add spices of emotion in the narrartive.

I recently visited the Canberra War Memorial, Canberra ACT, Australia. A good part of the museum is dedicated for World War I, and I have been looking for a very brief summary of the great war. This book could surely satisfy that hunger.

An excellent book or as the title says, a guide. The book is written for those knowing a little but not a lot about the First World War. It is an easy read. It is not a scholarly book on the war, but it does endeavor providing the reader the big picture of what led to the war and it does an exceptional job outlining the major battles on the Western and Eastern Fronts among the Allies and Central Powers.

A 'cliff notes' review of WW I that could be subtitled 'WW I 101'. If you are looking for a quick synopsis of the most important details of the war, this book is the place. It is written in a very simple prose style that can be easily understood by any interested 7th grade student. This book was what i needed after failing to get through the immensely unreadable book on the war by John Keegan.

Just like all the other books in the series, this is a very brief introductory account of the subject matter. It does a fair job of hitting all the necessary points, from the beginning/cause of the war to the main battles and the end. There's also a small glossary at the end of the important people. I finished it in a day or two and would recommend this short book to anyone who wants a brief overview of the war.

A bit slow

It was a bit slow at times but very well written and very informative. What I learned in school was not nearly as informative as this book was. It tells of the misery the troops from both sides had to endure.
