BNHA is such an amazing series and I just love the fact that we are starting to learn more about the villains now.

MVA is excellent so far and I'm so exicted for more background on the villains. They are a very interesting part of the story and I also know a lot of people love a certain villain Dabi and I'm just ready to see why is that.

I've already watched all the episodes that are currently out in the anime and because I'm very impatient I cannot wait for the next episodes to me released and I also don't have it in me do get caught up again by reading the manga from the beginning. So here I am starting withvolume 23 right from where season 5 left off.

I have this theory about one of the characters and I'm really curious if I'm right and I hopefully don't get spoiled before I can find out for myself. as it hapoened with other stuff

This volume covers the end of the battle training, allowing an excellent exploration of Midoriya's powers. It also includes a shift in storytelling to put the league of villains in the spotlight. This is a bold move but if Kohei Horikoshi does it right, it will allow us to learn more on the villains and each of their backgrounds. For the time being, this essentially introduces the villains... for the villains. Interesting thing is that you can make some real-life analogies to what is being done here, with terrorist groups and conspiracies. Hopefully, this will work for the better.

Gotta love the development of new powers. I definitely enjoyed the first half of this volume the most. As for the rest, it’s just slowly leading up to a larger arc, so I’ve gotta be patient.

So Class A vs Class B comes to a glorious end. Horikoshi continues to expand the universe of My Hero Academia. The League of villains is making power moves that are certain to bring trouble to the students of UA. Finally we get the reveal that Midoriya can communicate with the former users of One for All but he can unlock variations of their quirk abilities. This book felt like a transition to a much larger arc. The villain they reveal in this volume looks an awfully a lot like the Joker. All in All the action was good and I really enjoyed the new quirks introduced in this book as well. Their is not much more to say other than Horikoshi continues to write and draw one of the greatest manga series ever created.

Loved the wrap up of the training! The surprise of One for All being able to give Deku access to more then one Quirk is wild but also makes a lot of sense considering where it originated from, so I’m excited and curious to see what manifests next and how long it will be before Deku can actually use them at full capacity. Every time I think even for a second this series will follow the same old “formula” that it started out with, the mangaka throws me a curveball and I love it!

I felt really bad for All Might though as he still really wants to save people but can’t now and it’s sad to see him come to terms with that (though I’m glad Todoroki and Bakugo were there to help and keep him safe).

And now we’re shifting gears to explore the villains and while I don’t LIKE any of them per se, they are good bad guys (and Toga and Twice together do make me laugh on occasion) and I’m curious as to where this is going, even though I’m still lost on what these Meta Liberation morons are about, lol.

‼️Content‼️

Language: gah; freaking; dammit; heck; crap; Lord (1); bastard; sucks

Violence: injuries and blood (PG-PG-13); fighting with weapons, superpowers, and hand to hand (PG-PG-13); a person’s neck is snapped (not shown); a pile of hands is all that remains of a character’s family that they killed (action not shown); a guy’s fingers were cut off and left around the city (action not shown, no blood); people are crumbled (PG-13)

Sexual: a teen guy is a pervert; a girl’s shirt opens in the front all the way down to her stomach

Other: superheroes/supervillains/superpowers; a girl’s power has her “transform” into people by drinking their blood; death; a character is kidnapped/tied up; ink like stuff spews from characters’ mouths and transports them

Shinso is my boy.

My Hero Academia is my favorite series since Harry Potter. Everything about it freakin rules, and every volume that's released introduces a little bit more lore. This volume we get the conclusion of the Class 1A vs 1B battle training and it rules. We get more information about Midoriya's powers, as well as more about one of the previous weilders. Not only that, when Deku loses control of his power for a moment, we get to see Ochaco jump into action and put her skills to use! So often she's a side character in this, which makes sense, but it's nice to see how the training has developed her own personal fighting style and how she's able to look a step ahead to help Deku out. Of course, my favorite thing about this volume is MY BOY!!! Shinso kicking ass in the final battle and being good enough to switch classes. I adore his character and his relationship to Aizawa, especially because of how the way Aizawa treats him directly ties into his past and his choice to become a teacher.

This volume also gives us a super interesting insight into the point of view of the villains, both in the League of Villains and the new Meta Liberation Army. Though they're villains for a reason, it's fascinating to read their points of view and plans, compared to our sweet heroes. We also get a load of fun spoiler tie ins during this volume, like how the doctor working with the League is the same doctor who told Deku he had no quirk, and we get the backstory of Shigaraki and why he covers his face with hands. It's boss. This series is boss, and I don't care if I'm biased. This series is the kind of fun, quarantine reading I need right now!

This volume made me realize that my hero academia has actually managed to fill Naruto's shoes. It has great character development and finding out the new extent of Deku's powers had me so excited that I can not wait for the story to keep going.

Summary:

In the world of My Hero Academia, approximately eighty percent of the population (and growing) have been born with quirks – unique superpowers. Midoriya is part of the twenty percent group – born without a quirk. He never let that destroy his dreams of becoming a hero, and look at him now!

The (sanctioned) battle between Class A and Class B is wrapping up, with only a couple more fights to go. Now it's time for Midoriya and his team to show everyone what they've got. Yes, that's right, rematch time!

Meanwhile, the Meta Liberation Army is making its first moves, which will spell trouble for our heroes.

Review:

So, as hinted at above, My Hero Academia, Vol. 23, is actually split into two plot points. The first is wrapping up the training battles, and the second delves into the Meta Liberation Army Plot. I don't know about you, but I have a lot of opinions about all of it!

The training went a little wayward, as far as expectations go. Expectations of the class and teachers that is! I think all readers knew something would happen, especially as they had been teasing something for a while now. It was a satisfying conclusion.

The second half of this volume is admittedly the bigger risk. Not only do we jump over to the villains of the series...but we meet the villains to the villains? Yes, it's a bit complex, hence the risk. Still, it pays off (speaking as someone rereading the series for the umpteenth time).

This volume takes some sharp turns which really derail the momentum of the stories it's telling. We get some more info on One For All and the Quirks within it, before taking a left turn into a two-parter with Bakugo and Todoroki, before leaving that all behind to focus on the League of Villains. There's a lot going on, but just as each story gets interesting, the narrative shifts, so you don't really have time to get invested in anything before it all changes. A bit too transition-y for my tastes.

This is an exciting read, and it's not just because supporting characters became relevant to the plotline!

It's also because, finally, after 220 chapters, Horikoshi-sensei showed us the villains' side.

It's a refreshing take because we, the readers, are only used to seeing the good guys' side. We failed to understand why villains warped into the trouble that they become in the first place. And Horikoshi-sensei, in this volume, made it clear what the villains' status are, and who could potentially turn out to be villains.

Damn, Akutami Gege hates women so much that even his guest illustration here is a giant sausage fest with a very tiny Toga in the distant background as the sole female presence....

Anyway, this is kind of an interesting volume, in something like a "bad" way. The Joint Training ends rather well, having been quite a fun arc overall. We then move into the Meta Liberation Army Arc, which seems to focus on the League of Villains as protagonists this time around. In theory, this could be a cool thing, like the few mini-arcs following the Spiders in HxH, but... uh, well, Shigaraki still fuckin' sucks as a character, so I don't give a shit about his growth as a villain at all. Actually, he reveals something of his "motivation" here, which is just to destroy everything, and which is... kind of the most generic shit imaginable. Or, I mean, I guess it could be okay, elsewhere, if he had any sort of charisma. Look at Cell in Dragon Ball; he just wanted to beat the heroes to prove his superiority, then wipe out the solar system when he was done. But he was cool as fuck, so it's alright. And his time in his Imperfect stage actually had a good horror element to it, making him feel pretty legitimately threatening at times. Shigaraki is just an "incel" would-be school-shooter with superpowers. Just lame.

The good thing, I guess, is that we get more of Twice and Spinner, who are pretty cool. And Toga as well, I guess. I mean, she's not cool, but she wears thigh-highs over her chubby legs now, and that is pretty cool. (On that note, Ochako continues to look pretty juicy earlier in the volume. I'm continuing to appreciate her more and more.)

I really enjoyed this volume! I feel like it had a nice balance of both heroes and villains - seeing my favourites always makes me smile.

Izuku discovering blackwhip was for some reason unexpected for me in the anime, but it was exciting to see his quirk developing more!

Also, Shinso and Aizawa are so father and son, I love them so much:((

I love seeing interactions between the villains too, they’re so serious and unserious all at the same time!! And of course, besties Toga and Twice always makes me so happy ;u; their dynamic is so nice, I hope nothing bad happens to them! (yes, I do know something bad happened to them)

It was also really cool to see the illustration from Gege at the end of the volume!! Gege is another one of my favourite mangaka, so it was so so cool to see characters from MHA in his style! It’s nice to have characters drawn in different styles, it helps me see them differently, if that makes sense.

(And of course, domain expansion Toshinori really made me giggle.)

All in all, it was a lovely volume from one of my favourite series. I’ve excited to continue reading the other volumes <3

I decided to jump ahead because I hear this is the arc that is pretty different from the anime and they cut stuff out.

This finishes up Class A and Class B fighting. Deku along with everyone else has a new set of powers, or using their powers in a new way. This finishing of the arc was fun though not amazing. We then get into the villains arc, and how they've been using their time to grow as a organization as well as another "liberation army" going after them.

This overall is a decent arc. Some cool moments of growth for a few characters and getting to see the villains grow is fun. I didn't love it though and it didn't leave a lasting impact on anything so far, feels more like a build up to what is to come.

A 3 out of 5.

Very interesting to see that One For All has access to so much more power...
And I guess the new big bad is the Meta Liberation Army, but so much more should be explained in the next Volume, which is all villains!

Overall, this is an entertaining manga, but I'm seeing two things that I am finding annoying...
1) WAY too many "important" characters. Half of this Volume and the last was about Class 1-B, but I'm starting to forget who does what easily.
2) There is no end in sight. Not saying I want it to end, but with the pacing, it seems like it will go 100 Volumes... (which I know will bring many great joy)

MHA is one of the best manga and anime out there right now.

This volume was awesome. We get the ending of the contest in the beginning and then get back to more serious matter. I really like the idea of focusing a bit more on the villains, because I think there is some depth to take from there in those characters and also to bring villains that want to attack the villains is as much funny as it's original, it bring some perspective in the old good against villain battle. After a slower and more light one, the author really bring something more with it. This was a great one!

This volume was fantastic and introduces two of my favorite plots in MHA: Deku realizing the history and prominence of previous wielders and also the Meta Liberation Army! Really excited to continue on reading these and I think I’m enjoying reading the Manga more still than I did watching the Anime, and I really enjoyed the Anime!

Shinsou is so fkn amazing and I'm so happy for him!!! Also, Deku's new powers and the fact that he can communicate and unlock the powers of the past users of One For All is so interesting. Horikoshi seriously has an extraordinary mind!!
