Rate this book
You might think happiness is to be found in a pay rise or a new job, a holiday, a marriage (or divorce), an updated kitchen or that great pair of shoes you’ve got your eye on. But the cliché is true: happiness truly is in the journey, not the destination.

Psychologist Cassandra Dunn believes that happiness is available to all of us – and not just in some picture-perfect ideal life. Cass has helped thousands of people get from Crappy to Happy with her hit podcast. In this book Cass expands on those conversations and provides even more information and practical tools, helping you learn to let go, to find your people, to determine your direction and more.

Your journey to living your best life begins right here and now.

Reflections and lessons learned:
“I do believe that success and happiness are available to all of us… but real happiness is found in a sense of purpose and meaning in life…”

Happiness should be sought moment to moment - don’t always peg emotions to your next plans - it’s not all about being busy… perfectionism vs procrastination IS potentially is just fear in a fancy purple peacoat…? (me trying to make it a memorable p phrase!)

A book of short, snappy, helpful paragraphs with singular theories proffered and discussed from a balanced perspective. Also honing in on many recognisable character traits that sometimes need to be reminded about in different contexts. Bottom line? Just keep swimming bebe! We’re learning and evolving all the time, and a complex and examined life is perhaps a more fulfilled

“If happiness is the experience of positive emotions, is it therefore the absence of negative emotions? Well that seems unrealistic…?”

I enjoyed this book. I first downloaded it when going through one of the toughest seasons of my life but never listened to it then so thought I would now. It was all great but similar to other books on the same topic. Chapter 6: find your people really stood out to me. I have amazing people in my life and feel I have found my people but Cassandra shared some interesting facts about the use of phones and social media which I just thought was really interesting.

Such a quick and brilliant read. I'm not normally one for self-help type books. But this was honestly so good. And I would really recommend it to anyone and everyone. Found myself nodding in agreement with so many of the things Cassandra Dunn mentions in this book.

With the tough year everyone has had, I think a little happiness is always needed!

About📖
After helping thousands via podcast, author Cassandra expands on these thoughts further in this book.. Crappy to Happy. It focuses not only the energy you put out but also the energy you allow in and provides tools and thoughts on how to change your own narrative to help improve the happiness within your orbit. Hate to say it but the cliche is true.. the answer is in the journey and not the destination. Happiness is available to all of us and it is our choice to make on experiencing it. With awareness comes direction and this will help choose the right path!

My thoughts 💭
Whilst this was a short listen.. it packed a punch! It not only offered advice but really got you thinking about where you are at and what areas you would like to see change. It is very relatable and what I think is its winning factor was the voice over. In audio reads this is everything and this was done so well!
.
If you are looking for a read to find my positivity in your world and for ways to increase your happiness this is for you!

My 25 fav pearls of wisdom take aways are:
-happiness is in the journey, not the destination and is available to all of us.
-take time to be still and give yourself some love
-happiness is a choice. Pursue this and allow success to follow
-take notice without judgement
-saying no to others means saying yes to you
-accept what cannot be changed and learn to let go. Stop trying to control the uncontrollable
-acceptance is not defeat
-the more you try to limit yourself to discomfort, the smaller your world becomes
-what you resist, persists.
-stop comparing what you know about yourself with what you don’t know about others. Comparison is the thief of joy.
-to break the negative loop, you need to be aware of it
-stop feeding the beast. Limit exposure to anything and anyone that has negative energy as emotions are contagious
-negativity breeds negativity. Spreads like a virus. Equally with happiness. Choose your energy.
-your energy can drain or uplift those around you. Choose where to focus your energy.
-lead with curiosity. Give people the benefit of your kindness and generosity of spirit instead of your judgement and criticism
-offer compassion without being a victim
-key ingredient in quality rships is time. Lack of care and attentions causes them to fall apart
-it is hard to connect with too many people. If you are trying to maintain too many rships, you are doing them and yourself a disservice
-your behaviour is your responsibility
-you are the sum of the 5 people you spend the most time with. Who you spend your time with and how you spend you energy is everything.
-drop your pride before throwing away yourself. Vulnerability is important
-it is our light not our darkness that most frightens us
-a lot to be gained by adding a little more rose to your glasses
-focus on being of value and not on being a success
-choose to cooperate rather than compete.
.
A great empowering read that makes you want to create change and make a difference.

A quick and easily digestible read. Altho there isn’t much new here it is so simply laid out that I found I was nodding along the whole time thinking to myself yes, a-ha, yup - so many reminders of what is right in front of you. How it isn’t often achieving the big lofty goal that makes you happy, it’s the journey itself.

I listened to this book as an audible and it flew by in one sitting. The narrator was so pleasant to listen to, that I genuinely felt so calm and serene by the end. Less so because of the content but more the way her presence seemed to ignite a simple ease and happiness within me. She made her points all seem so achievable. I may need to relisten and take notes next time.

I absolutely loved this gem of book. I’m quite a slow reader and I breezed through this book in a couple of (uninterrupted hours). Every page strongly resonated with me today. I had previously read this book when it was first realised but I obviously wasn’t in the correct mindset to observe and put into practice what I was reading. A great book that touches on a 10 step process of limiting negativity and increasing positivity in your life! If you are suffering from too much negativity, limiting beliefs, self sabotage or simply think the world is constantly against you, this book is definitely a mindset game changer!

This book gives super simple and actionable advice on how to find happiness and to quiet your mind and your life. Getting more from less. A bit of a subtle approach to finding happiness and fulfillment in life. Not being constantly pushed to find the next big thing in your life. Contemplating this, I actually find it quite funny that there are people in the world that have actually gone through a year in life and they're like, wow, I'm exactly where I was. Really? Why? That's challenging to do, actually. How can you just stay still like that?

Crappy to Happy is a short self-hep book giving practical tools to help you live your best life.

This book was very short and sweet. The messages are commonly heard pieces of advice which can be found in most self-help books, with a focus on finding happiness and working on intrinsic goals rather than finding happiness from material goods. The themes are helpful and easily digestible. A good reminder to focus on connection and wellbeing.

Having listened to many episodes of Cass’ podcast I was looking forward to listening to this book on Audible. I was full of practical advice about how we tend to think more pessimistic than optimistic and things we can easily do to help our thinking and actions.

This was surprisingly good! A bunch of previously-read self-help books all condensed into one small volume. I'm not sure I learned a lot of new things, but it reinforced what I already understood/had learned from other sources. Very helpful!

Loved this book. Slowly worked my way through it reading a chapter/lesson before bed which was a positive way to end my day. Found it to be very motivational. I’ve already started rereading it. Defs recommend.

I didn’t expect to like this book because I am tired of self-help lately. But this was smart. It was based in positive psychology and referenced empirical studies and theories. Better than I expected.

Audiobook: preachy with no anecdotes. This is like a compilation of greatest hits from other writers. Quoting Brene Brown isn’t advancing literature. Needs personal stories to illustrate each theme.
