Rate this book

Alba and Fyrian face another challenge — all the dragon eggs vanish from a magically secured incubator, leading the dragons of Mount Fornax to revolt.

With the already country on the brink of civil war, an outbreak of furious dragons will leave it vulnerable to King Magnar’s army of invaders. Alba and Fyrian suspect the devious warlord of ordering the theft, but they cannot act without evidence.

They have twelve hours to retrieve the eggs, or the dragons will break through the wards of Mount Fornax and burn the country to ashes. Now, Alba and Fyrian must uncover King Magnar’s deception before he transports the eggs across the border.

Not as strong as book one but still fun and enjoyable. Hoping there is a bit more character development in the next book otherwise I fear the series may start to get a bit boring.

Barely a week has passed from Alba and Fyri's adventures and they embark on a new, more dangerous one. During the opening ceremony of the Academy, Queen Cendrilla falls ill and has to be whisked away. Alba has to take her place to complete the ceremony, forfeiting her disguise temporarily. But a nasty surprise awaits her at the royal box. None other than King Magnar, the very person she wants to avoid. The ceremony is disrupted when a swarm of locusts attack the city and everyone flees to safety. During a tour of the dragon incubators requested by King Magnar, it is discovered that the dragon eggs have been stolen. Alba immediately suspects Magnar and this is just the beginning of her new adventure.

"Poacher of Dragons" is the second installment in the "Dragon Mage Academy" series and is as good as the first one. Cordelia Castel has once again delivered an extremely well written and fast-paced story, full of plot twists, suspense and a hint of romance brewing in the background. Excellent descriptions, great world building and well fleshed-out characters that we can see evolve with each page turn. A must read for all fans of fantasy!!!

Can't wait for the next book in the series!

I am somehow reminded of reading the Nancy Drew, Cherry Ames and Tom Swift series when I read this. The protagonists are young and work together a bit awkwardly because they are young. No, they do not get things correct on the first try. Yes they are learning, but still they get themselves in trouble for 'meddling' in things that the adult really should manage to handle without them. Do I think the adults will? No. But are the teens/children really in serious harm's way? I'm not so sure because the adults (be they ogre, witch or dragon) are right there at the right moment to keep serious harm from occurring. The kids are not being set up for the mysteries so I am a lot happier than I was at reading Harry Potter, Artemis Fowl and others of the genre.
Another thing, this world is well set up and layered. So far, each story teaches more about the world, its magic, its peoples, its creatures, its history and the interdependence of all of them. It may not read like Tolkien, being far lighter and easier, but it is just about as complex. Definitely well worth the read

This was an absolute joy of a book to read. The story starts off really strong and never really gives up it's strong pace.

The story is part mystery as you along with the MC try to figure out how the dragon eggs were stolen along with who stole them and where they currently are. There are many clues along the way to help you solve the who, how, where mystery.

The second part of the book is the fantasy aspect and how it ties into the world at large this one event. There are a few well drawn out and described action sequences from a one versus one battle to a group against an external natural threat.

I also really enjoyed how the book ended with a nice twist that tied into a small moment early in the book and how quick it ended and flowed quickly into the 3rd book in the series. The characters continue to develop nicely and seeing the interaction with them and the world at large beyond their academy adds a nice touch. Really looking forward to continuing along in this series.

Good read!

I'm thoroughly enjoying this series of books. This second book finds Princess Alba in a bit of a pickle with the coming of King Magnar who turns out to be a real idgit! The dragon eggs are all stolen and hidden away by strong fairy magic by two of Magnar's older witch sisters. Albert, aka Alba is expelled from the academy due to dueling Magnar and destroying his black magic infused armor causing an explosion and waking all the sleeping dragons who are extremely ticked off because of the stolen eggs. Will Alba and her friends along with Fyri and Fogo be able to get the eggs back and avert a war with the sleeping dragons and King Magnar? Well I guess you will have to read the book to find out! I recommend this series to anyone who loves dragons and adventure. On to book 3!!

Princess Alba is faced with another mystery only a week after solving the last one. This time, all the dragon eggs in the magically-protected hatchery have been stolen and Alba must get them back or the dragons will lay waste to Mount Fornax and everything else until they are recovered. Meanwhile, Alba's erstwhile suitor, King Magnar, shows up at the academy with his four little sisters, all of whom are witches. King Magnar isn't anything like his betrothal picture; he's a teen like Alba. He's also put his sisters up to stealing all the books in the library on raising dragons. Alba still wears her gender-bending disguise, which protects her somewhat in her interactions with King Magnar. She and Fyrian have their work cut out for them this time. I liked this book a lot, and I think you will too.

So Alba stays at Mt Fornax. Still bonded to Fyrian. And both grow up a LOT this book. Alba has to solve the mystery of the missing dragon eggs this time, while fending off the advances of King Magnar both while a girl and while glamoured. Makes for some hilarious times. Alba’s father seems to be more attentive this book, but as Alba says, that could be simply because Cendrilla is away. I despise Magnar. Childish, trite, spoiled and entitled. I love how Alba deals with him at the end of the book! I can’t wait to see what mystery there is to solve in the next book. Also, I really hope she’s not really expelled.

Cute!

Princess Alba still disguised as a young man, Albert, is getting into trouble again. She meets King Magnar and finds out that he is a young man only slightly older than her but who uses dark fairy magic to make him appear older and more powerful.
When the dragon eggs disappear she is certain that he is involved but, as usual, no one will listen to her.
This series is good YA reading. It has a lot of humour too.

There are some things that just frustrate a person about certain stories. For example, if someone knows something from the past, and tgey can't seem to use that same knowledge later in a story, or different story.

There is some of that going on in this book.

Why would you let your enemy go? Why not take the enemy to the proper people once you have them captured?

I'm sure young girls will actually like it

Had more potential for mature reader than it delivered. In my opinion it is targeted for very young adults, and likely young female adults.??

This is a good book! It teaches Alba to try not to over think things and whenever she stops and lets her mind flow, it all falls into place. I can't wait to read more!

3.5 stars. The first book in this series was a little better, but this was still a fun read. If you liked this one, you will definitely want to pick up book three right after.

Princess Alba is back and with a great new mystery to solve and lots of action. When Dragon 🐉 eggs are stolen it is up to Alba and the crew to find out who done it and how. They have a suspect in King Magnar who is supposed to become Alba's betrothed. Fyrian as always is great and I just love that dragon. The Sleeping dragons also awaken i want to see more of them, because of the stolen eggs. All in all a great sequel i can't wait to read book 3
