The only pleasure in Emily Fenton’s mundane life was spending all of her free time with her nose in a book. But soon enough all that changes for our English teacher! When the head of the university’s biology department falls mysteriously ill and disappears from the campus, everything is about to get upside down. When she meets his replacement, a man by the name of Lukas Elmbridge, she has a strange feeling about him. But when she’s called for help, will she be ready to face the reality?
Lukas Elmbridge is not only a solitary man, but his past is completely veiled in mystery. He certainly enjoys his job as a teacher but this pleasure was not his ulterior motive when he decided to take the position in the university’s biology department. Everything was perfectly planned but Emily was a variable he hadn’t calculated. As Lucas grows closer to Emily, strange things begin to happen on the campus; attacks by mysterious beasts, rumors of men shot by silver bullets. Will he be able to hide his real identity in order to keep her safe? Or is it too late?
As their feelings for one another become hard to ignore, Emily is drawn into a world where the supernatural is all too real – and dangerous. Can she shed her disbelief, or will Lukas’ dark secrets come to haunt both of them?
"Falling for the Feral Professor" is a paranormal romance novel of approximately 80,000 words. No cheating, no cliffhangers, and a guaranteed happily ever after.
Overall, I did like it. For a shifter romance, it's a little bit of an unusual take, with the H trying so hard to cure his lycanthropy instead of fully embracing it (and trying to convince her to turn too). A little refreshing. And I liked the slower pacing in terms of the romance. I do love a slow burn romance.
However, the devil's in the details, as they say:
* If you're writing a book set on "an icy college campus in suburban London" then it should sound British, not American. There were one or two times when the British English term was used correctly. BUT much much more frequently, the American terms were used. Apartment, sweater, first floor and elevator were all used frequently throughout the story, and those are just the ones I remember off the top of my head. * Plus, even in suburban London, where are the fields and forests that seem to surround this university? * I have a good number of friends that teach at the university level. They all describe their position as "professor" not "teacher." Even if they "teach English," they are "English professors."
One larger quibble was in the conclusion. After a nice slow-burn sort of build through the semester, we end up with a crazy 48 hour climax to the story. It includes . Just went from such a mellow pace to FULL TILT 48 HOUR RUSH!!
Overall, it wasn't a bad read, just not really a stand-out. Felt like a work from a newer author, honestly - lots of potential, but some details and kinks to work on. Would read more by her, though, and that's always a good sign!
Book Review: Falling for the Feral Professor Author: Amalia Altman FOUR STARS Falling for the Feral Professor is a paranormal romance. Werewolf shifters, and yes, there are more than one in this story. This book has a very slow start to it. Matter-of-fact I almost gave up on it several times. I had to put it down and come back to it three or four times that I remember. I kept looking at the progress and it just seem to take forever. Once I hit the 50% mark or half way through it started developing some action and I was finally drawn in and didn't want to put it down. So if you get bored easily or need action from the start then this book may not be for you. Lukas is a biology professor who has been hired to replace the professor who has gone missing. Emily is an English professor at the same university and this is the story of how they meet and how Emily finds out about Lukas and his "condition" and their attempts at finding a cure for Lukas. Like I said it was very hard to get this book to keep my attention and to draw me in but once I hit the midway point the whole story "shifted" (see my pun?) and I couldn't put it down. Kelli Harper
A fast-paced paranormal romance for adult readers.
Can love thrive between two separate species?
Emily is an English professor at a small college. Her life is anything but adventure filled. She spends her time teaching or at the library with her head in a book. She has one close friend who is a TA, Ted, but is estranged from her family. Emily thinks she is happy with her solitary life.
Lukas joins the staff as the head of the Biology department, filling in for a professor away with a serious illness. He enjoys teaching, but his main reason for accepting the post is access to a lab for his own research and experiments.
The attraction is immediate between Emily and Lukas when Ted introduces them. Soon they spend as much time as possible together. There are times Lukas behavior raises questions with Emily, but she has never before been so happy.
Lukas has a secret. Does he dare confide in Emily? If he does will it ruin things between them? Can a real relationship develop in the shadow of deception?
Since Lukas started working at the university, there have been attacks, and even one person shot. Can Lukas have anything to do with the outbreak of violence?
ONE EXCITING TREAT!!! Wow! Talk about jumping in head first. If you're looking for an action packed, fast paced, hard hitting, pulse racing, heart pounding, nailbitng, page turning bombshell that's as riveting as it is captivating. Congrats my friends you've found it. A rollercoaster ride of emotions and events that really bring this bad boy roaring to life brilliantly. All the drama, deceit, uncertainty, danger and suspense increases while tension spirals. Twists and turns abound with unexpected circumstances that make for one thrilling experience. The characters are complex and believable with such depth and individuality it's easy to relate. The scenes are so graphically detailed and descriptive you have no trouble picturing each scenario as they play off one another in perfect balance. Amalia did an amazing job bringing this read together smoothly. Fantastic job Amalia, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
A werewolf story with a few unique twists and turns: a werewolf is actively researching a cure for his own disease; a non-infected human considers allowing herself to be bitten to allow herself to become a werewolf so she can enjoy life with her boyfriend! (A bit implausible). Scenes from a biology lab seek to add credence to the research activity, but for anyone with training in biology, too skimpy to be taken seriously. As another mentioned, the language made the setting and the characters seem American, making the reader confused at times as to where the story was taking place. SUMMARY: a somewhat different take on the werewolf story, with some good twists and turns, and some that fail to please. A good effort, for what seems to be a young author.
I loved this story. I especially like that they take time to get to know each other. I can usually see what’s coming ahead of time when reading a book. It is a nice change to be surprised when several things happen. I wouldn’t change a thing. I do hope this turns into a series where children are born and everyone in the pack finds love. And maybe let Ted find a werewolf so he and Emily can still be friends. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to read about werewolves and the supernatural. Make sure you read the extended piece. It’s well worth the read.
I could not put the book down when I picked it up from the first page to the last. Emily taught English in College where she met Lukas in the lunch room when she was getting her lunch with another teacher. Emily could not stop thinking about Lukas and wanting to see him and not sure why she feels that way. Lukas can not stop thinking about Emily and he does not know why. But Ill leave it as that. Time to buy the book and see what is next. Worth getting and reading. Will be getting more for this author.
I really enjoyed reading this book. Sparks fly when a mysterious substitute is called in to take another professor's place at a university after an undefined illness has taken hold. Emily and Lukas hit it off from the start, and it unfolds a whole new world for her in ways she hadn't thought possible before.
I personally really appreciated the fact that this author alludes to intimacy without actually putting it all out there in ways that might make a reader slightly uncomfortable. If you are a fan of paranormal romances, you will enjoy reading this book.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will read more by this author. Emily is a professor at a university and when one of colleagues is apparently taken ill, a new professor takes his place - Lukas. They are drawn together, but things get a little strained when animal attacks start happening on the campus. Lukas seems to be hiding a secret, but when he eventually shares it with Emily, she is not sure that she can believe him.
A very interesting fantasy novel. I really enjoyed reading this story about Lukas' and is fathers history. The rest of the enfolding story was very well written. There is an extended version that I can't wait to download and read. Enjoy.
Very good book written as if it could happen some place away from here. There is also an expanded extra chapter. I like the way this Author's mind works.
