Emily Davis is the newest cheerleader at Sycamore High School. It all seems so perfect! Her parents will be proud of her, at last. Maybe she can finally make some friends. And then there is Evan, the sweetest guy around, who has actually asked her to go out with him!
But the magic doesn't last long.
Emily has a problem—a big problem—something that could destroy everything that is finally going right in her life.
Behind the fears and lies, behind the locked door is...Emily's Secret.
I read this book back in 6th grade. I remember enjoying it pretty well. For a sort of YA(ish) novel I think it was a decent portrayal of an eating disorder from what I remember. The ending was very sweet. The themes of self-acceptance were cool. And I did learn some about bulimia. It was an interesting story and it was actually rather informative.
After re-reading this book: I gotta say that Emily's mom drove me absolutely insane. Like I hated her. She finds out that her daughter has an eating disorder and her first response is literally; 'promise that you won't forget about the weight limit!' Like, just wow. The sad part is, I can see this happening in real life too.
The content of this book is 100% a serious problem that shouldn't be laughed at, but the after school special vibe reeks from the pages. It goes very fast and the male love interest in the book seems like an after thought and strange that all of a sudden he has to "save" her. I wish the guy wasn't apart of it at all.
This book has been my favorite book since I read it. I've read other books but never one like this. It is really interesting and it talks about things that some girls really go through.
