Rate this book

A very interesting introduction into multiple conditions (including OCD, MPD, phobias and more) along with multiple theories (bystander effect, classical conditioning, localisation) and even some treatments (systematic desensitisation, play therapy, psychoanalysis) Additionally, Rolls includes short sections on the aftermath and the ethics of each case study, offering an intriguing take on how they may have been treated in modern times. Overall, definitely worth a read as an introduction to 16 of the most famous case studies ever recorded.

Edit: The only complaint I would have is some of the information about the cases are slightly out of date due to this book being published in 2005 (such as exaggerations about the witnesses of Kitty Genovese's murder.) On top of that, I would argue Kitty Genoveses section being named "the girl who cried murder" is a little insensitive due to the connotations of the boy who cried wolf. The Boy is of course at blame for crying for unneeded help and therefore it may come across to some that Genoveses murder was her fault. I do not think that was the intention of Rolls though I still believe there may have been a better title for that chapter. Aside from that, definitely worth a cautious but thorough read.

Brilliant books, not only for psychological students but also for those who simply curious about strange cases in the world!

The book is a collection of several classic psychological study cases but was written in common language that even without psychological knowledge background readers can read and understand.

As a student, this book helped me so much in broadening my knowledge pool as well as reminding me much information I might forget.

A great book for everyone.

Strange cases of Psychology. And I found that the story about Henry Molaison who had an anterograd amnesic similar with Memento (a movie which directed by Christopher Nolan). When I saw that movie, I thought that it was strange. But, when I read that book, I was surprise because that was really happen.

Beberapa kasus memang mengerikan.

*hm... tampaknya saya berbakat jadi psikolog... *elus2 dagu
*lalu diseret jadi pasien

Polecam!

This book was so good. It's made up of a collection of well known and influential psychological case studies, often combined with other fields, especially linguistics.
It was very informative and interesting and I found myself feeling all sorts of emotions while I was reading it.
I wouldn't use it as the only source of information for a student/researcher writing a paper on any of the studies but I would recommend it as a first step as it includes not only fairly detailed and engaging information about the different cases but also because it includes references and further information at the end of each study.
I would also recommend it to anyone who's interested in psychology and/or non-fiction, even if they don't know much about the subject. It also includes cases that have become well known and even best-selling books and movies.
