Death and Destruction #9

Spies and Allies

Rate this book
Mossad Operative, Adael Dayan, has long been a pain in the ass to ATF special agents, Thayne Wolfe and Jarrett Evans. Showing up in the middle of their cases time after time hasn’t endeared him to the pair but both men grudgingly have to admit, he’s usually provided valuable assistance. When Adael suddenly wakes up believing he’s been poisoned, it becomes a race against the clock to help find the person who’s done this to him and learn why in time to save his life.

Race Parker, former Green Beret, once carried Adael away from a vicious mercenary. Deeply attracted to Adael, Parker stayed with Dayan in the hospital hoping there might be a future between them. When Adael yanked his hand out of his the moment Jarrett Evans showed up, Race didn’t hang around. He wasn’t falling for a guy who wanted someone else.

Long ago Jarrett left Adael and the bad memories that ended their mission in Gaza behind. When he’d seen Parker and the Israeli in the hospital together, he’d had hope that maybe Adael might finally find happiness regardless of Adael’s insistence that gay men never remained monogamous for long.

Thayne has long been resentful of the relationship Adael had with Jarrett. Every time the Israeli shows up, things go from bad to worse. In this final installment of the Death and Destruction series, our men will once again be thrown from the frying pan into the fire, and all because a rogue Israeli spy can’t keep his bullshit to himself.

** 4.55 stars **

I enjoyed reading this book despite the lack of certain things I wanted it to have. It was a page-turner as always in terms of action and sarcastic humor but the ending was a little anticlimactic or I should say tamer than usual. And I wanted more for Race and Adael's budding relationship. Yes, I loved that they established trust and a special bond between them but it felt more like friendship rather than romance, and they jumped so quickly from that to love - I really wanted to see Adael's transformation and that moment when his views changed but it wasn't there unfortunately.

This book didn't have much in terms of romance, it felt like tying up loose ends. I loved revisiting with all my favorite people and seeing how they have been getting on. That was a treat. I loved the investigation, a little bit of suspense and mystery involved. The epilogue was very cute and romantic especially for Thayne and Jarrett but with Adael and Race it felt unfinished. I feel like I need a bit more of Race and Adael! Overall, this has been a wonderful series and I really liked reading it. I highly recommend it!

By far my least favorite of the series. First let me just get this out of my system - if you are going to write about the military have a beta reader that has served. When the gang goes to the Air Force Base the guard is listed as a Corporal (well the Air Force doesn't have that rank). Then the friend/pilot that "helps" them get in the back gate is a Lieutenant but he knew Jarret in high school so he'd been the Air Force for a long time. So he'd probably be a Lieutenant Colonel but no way would he be a Lieutenant (it's not possible). I could go on about very obvious things that were incorrect that threw me out of the story.

Unfortunately it wasn't just these inaccuracies that bothered me. This book just didn't quite know what it wanted to do. Was it still about Jarrett and Thayne or was it going to focus on Adael and Race. Instead it tried to do it all. The action was OTT (please there is no way I'm going to believe that an ATF agent is going to get sent to Israel to investigate a murder they don't even have jurisdiction over. The plot was just crazy and the romance between Adael and Race was completely unbelievable. They fall in love in a very short time must of which Adael spends in the hospital. It's very instant and they don't spend enough time together to make it believable.

I really love this series so I'm being generous with the stars but this book wasn't up to par with the previous ones.

Adael has been teasing us all through this series. He's a man that you love to hate. He's good at his job, he gets things done no matter the cost. He's sexy and sneaky. This book has made me fall in love with him. Him almost dying has brought out the true man. And Race is right there by his side the whole way, even if he has to keep his feelings locked up. I love this series, these characters, their adventures to save the world and the people they care about.

Phew, what a tangled web we weave, or at least Jarrett and Thayne never fail to do so! I've so enjoyed this series, probably one of the best Ms Logan has written so far. The whole series has been fast paced and action packed. I was so pleased when I saw she'd written another book, one which ties up a lot of loose ends.

I don't want to give the plot away, so I'll just say that it's got everything needed for a first class story. Good writing and interesting characters, and full of the humour and cute moments we've come to expect from Jarrett and Thayne. This made it a pleasure to read from beginning to end. It's not just a book about romance, it also has a gripping story with lots going on.

It was nice to see Adeal again, for once his attention wasn't totally on Jarrett. In fact, it was great meeting a lot of characters from earlier books once again, it was interesting the way in which the author integrated them into the plot. There were also some new characters introduced, so maybe we'll get to keep up with everyone if the newbies' stories are told. We live in hope.

Race was intrigued by Adael but when he realized that he was only interested in Jarrett, he backed off and let his feelings die away. When Adael calls him because he’s in trouble, all the feelings bubble back to the surface. As they work to save Adael’s life, their feelings become mutual. The first time Race kissed Adael he felt like he had come home.

I’ve had a soft spot for Adael since he first appeared in the series. I think he is well matched with Race. I wish there would of been a bit more to their relationship. I felt like it was kind of unfinished even though they got their happy ending.

Thayne and Jarrett of course, are involved up to their eyeballs. They can’t seem to keep away from danger. Jarrett’s present to Thayne at the end of the book was such a sweet ending to their story.

I received an arc of this book from the author.

Death and Destruction 9

I’m saddened to see the end of such an epic series. However, this story did a wonderful job of tying everything up. All of the characters have found their happy endings. And new(Er) characters have been introduced so my hope is we will see another spin off series. Was glad to see that Adael finally got his own man and moved on from Jarrett. It was rather heartwarming to see the whole team come together to help the resident PITA if you will. Congratulations Patricia Logan on the end to a classic series. And I can’t wait to see what is coming next.

This was so bittersweet

I absolutely loved this book and found myself crying knowing that it is the last in the series.. Thayne and Jarrett are both amazing and their chemistry together is simply amazing. Another good mystery to solve and I loved everyone working together.. so happy that Adael finally let down his walls... I will miss these characters.

Spies and Allies (Death and Destruction Book 9) is a great ending to one of the best series that I have ever read. I'm glad Adael finally got his man. Parker is the perfect fit for him and after reading about his family; I'm glad he made it work. Patricia never disappoints with any of her books and this done didn't either. I loved seeing Thayne and Jarrett and all the MCS from the previous books. Patricia Logan is one of the authors that I stalk Facebook and Goodreads for their next book, and when I saw this I said Wahoo.
Overall, the book was fun, sexy, and looking forward to her next book.

Wow! What a way to wrap up a series! Ms. Logan has done it again. This installment starts off with a bang and the roller-coaster keeps you turning pages until the very end! This is Adael and Race's story (I've been eagerly waiting for Adael's story!) I don't re-hash the story or give spoilers, so I'll suffice it to say that if you're a fan of the series and of Jarrett and Thayne, you don't want to miss out. I'm very happy with the tying up of loose ends and the epilogue was the cherry on top! I'm also thrilled that even though this series is done (but knowing Ms. Logan, we will see these guys again!) that past characters seem to pop up in spin-off series.

Great installment

I love this series. Logan has done it again. The characters are fun and sexy and so enjoyable to read. While the focus this time is on secondary characters, we still get lots of time with the original crew...

So, let's start with the obvious...this is the only book in this series to not receive 5 stars from me.
There are a couple of reasons for this happening.
Let me begin by saying that Yes, I did read the blurb. So, I was aware that this one wasn't going to be about our two MC's Jarrett and Thayne, but hinted that they would at least be making an appearance. And, boy did they! Along with the rest of the characters we've met along the way in this series and another of the author's series that have appeared in D&D(Cassidy and Mike). Anyway, I'm getting off track...
I have always had a soft spot for Adael. I found myself wishing that he'd get his HEA at some point. And when I found out that this book would be his story I was so excited, even if I was disappointed that T & J were no longer our MC's. Ultimately, after reading this one, I kind of feel that it should have been classified as a Spin-Off of D&D and not the final book in the series. It was a bit deceptive to be honest. Although we can say that Thayne and Jarrett basically got their HEA ending a couple of books ago really, so I won't dwell on that for too long. I guess I was just looking for any loose ends to be tied up with their story when what we got was a new story with two new MC's as the finale of one of the most amazing M/M series I have ever read. So, yes. It was disappointing. But, it didn't have to be. I would have gotten over this fact a lot faster and easier if there was a bigger focus on the relationship between Race and Adael. But, instead their relationship took a major backseat to the "mystery" and if I'm honest here, the mystery wasn't too much of one and it definitely wasn't as thrilling or interesting as the ones from the previous books. I think the biggest thing for me here was that if the author decided to make the finale of this series about a couple other than the MC's from the rest of the series, I wanted to see their relationship build and turn into something. When by the end of it all(before the epilogue) all these 2 had done is kiss once. In fact the only love scene we get is between Thayne and Jarrett(and I'm NOT complaining about this at all). Then the epilogue happens(I won't spoil what's in that epilogue) and we are just expected to accept that there are things we just aren't going to be a part of in Race and Adael's relationship and that is REALLY disappointing. We never get to experience any of their firsts(except for that one kiss and some hand-holding) and that big declaration and it was ultimately a let down for me.
But now all that being said, this was still a really well-written tale. I adore the characters from this series and those that appeared from her other series. I am such a Cassidy Ryan fan-girl. :)
So, while I'm mildly disappointed here it's still a 4 star read. I'll just look at this as a spin-off in my head and accept the 8th D&D book to be the actual finale to the series for our heroes, Thayne Wolfe and Jarrett Evans.
BUT...I totally wouldn't be upset by a spin-off series where the world is built around Race & Adael. And, please for the love of gods....give us more MAC MAC MAC!! I have never been more curious about a character in my life! He needs a HEA and I'd love to see more of his relationship with Nico. Just a thought. :)
Anyway, do yourself a favor and read this series. If you go into this understanding that Book 8 is actually the finale of the series and Book 9 is kinda a spin-off you won't be disappointed.

Was this the same author?

I was thrilled to hear about another book in the Death and Destruction series. I have fallen in love with Thayne and Jarrett. While this book was not focused on these two and their crazy, whirlwind lives, instead Jarretts former..fling, Adael Dayan is the focus of this book. Adael has been recovering from a gunshot would after his last mission with the ATF and FBI. He's also been trying to forget the handsome man who saved him. Race Parker doesn't know what it is about Adael that he can't resist, but when he sees Adaels reaction to the ATF agent who comes to visit him I the hospital, he isn't surprised when Adael turns him away. Until Race gets an unexpected call from him about a dead man in his cabin. Adael, Race, Jarrett, Thayne, and all of the other agents work together to figure out who is trying to frame Adael and possibly want him dead.
Again, I have absolutely loved the other books in this series, but I just did not feel the chemistry between Race and Adael. I just could not get on-board with these two becoming anything more. I was so disappointed with the amount of typos in this book also; mostly small, fairly insignificant, but the one that really bothered me was the fact that a characters name was spelled one way in one sentence and in the next spelled differently. This book just did not flow as well as the others did for me.

I've absolutely loved this series so much..I'm actually re-reading the first one whilst I write this...Ms Logan made me love Adael in this...He kind goes through it a bit but everyone pulls together to help him..It's an easy read..much easier than the rest...Race was the perfect match for him and we also get a bit of Thayne and omg Jarrett......A perfect end to the series and a good way to kick of Kane's book x

3.5 stars. Okay I was so disappointed that we got next to no time with Adael and Race. And all they ever did was kiss and hold hands. I absolutely love Jarrett and Thayne but this was supposed to be about Adael and Race coming together as a couple.

"Spies and Allies," the final installment in the Death and Destruction series, delivers an intense and emotionally charged narrative that skillfully intertwines international espionage with complex personal dynamics. The novel centers on Mossad operative Adael Dayan, a recurring and contentious figure in the lives of ATF special agents Thayne Wolfe and Jarrett Evans.

The story opens with a gripping premise: Adael Dayan, the perennial wildcard in Thayne and Jarrett's cases, is mysteriously poisoned, sparking a desperate race against time. This plot device effectively serves as a catalyst, drawing together the various characters and their intertwined histories in a high-stakes drama.

Race Parker, a former Green Beret, emerges as a pivotal character, introducing a new romantic dimension to the narrative. His conflicted feelings for Adael, tinged with disappointment and unrequited affection, add depth to the story. The review highlights this emotional turmoil, capturing the essence of Parker's struggle and his complex relationship with Adael.

Jarrett's past with Adael is a crucial element of the narrative, and the review adeptly touches on this history. It hints at unresolved tensions and regrets that linger between them, adding layers to Jarrett's character and his interactions with Adael. This backstory enriches the narrative, providing context and emotional resonance.

Thayne's perspective is particularly well-conveyed in the review. His resentment towards Adael, fueled by the latter's past relationship with Jarrett, is palpable. This emotional subplot is a testament to the series' strength in character development, where personal and professional lives are inextricably linked.

The reviewer's description of Adael as a "rogue Israeli spy" who consistently complicates matters for Thayne and Jarrett encapsulates the ongoing tension that has been a hallmark of the series. This final installment seems to promise a resolution to these longstanding conflicts, both personal and professional.

"Spies and Allies" appears to masterfully balance action-packed espionage with deep character exploration. The novel's strength lies in its ability to weave complex relationships into a thrilling narrative, ensuring that the series concludes on a high note.

Fans of the Death and Destruction series will likely find "Spies and Allies" a satisfying and compelling finale, offering closure to the intricate web of relationships and high-stakes adventures that have defined the series. For new readers, this book might also serve as a tantalizing introduction to the richly developed world and characters Patricia Logan has crafted.

**********Contains Spoilers**********

I’m very new to Patricia Logan’s work and I’m looking forward to reading more. I really enjoyed this book and thought that it was another good addition to Death and Destruction Series. I’m so glad that Adael finally pulled his head out of his a*se and realised what/who was right in front of him, all he needed to do was drop his walls. After learning about the type of man his father is I don’t blame Adael for not believing in monogamy. Even though Adael has rubbed everyone the wrong way over the years, for not only turning up in the middle of prior ATF & FBI investigations but not giving all the information they need, they all jumped when Race Parker, former Green Beret and part of one of FBI Tac Teams that helped during their last case and assisted Jarrett with getting an injured Adael out of the Stryker-Dunn building alive called to ask for back up after he received a worrying call from Adael.

Even though we didn’t get to see much romance between Adael and Race it was obvious throughout the book that they had feelings for each other and wanted to see where things went after they finished their current investigation of who poisoned Adael, murdered the man he was with and left a note in the deceased man’s hand with co-ordinates and Spear spelt in Hebrew. Adael noticed that the co-ordinates were the location of his father’s residence in Tel Aviv, so maybe his father is in danger and knows what Spear is. Adael father is high up in Mossad and knows that he’ll need to go to Tel Aviv to speak to him in person. Race of course volunteers to partner up with him, it takes Adael a moment to agree since he’s used to working alone. I’m looking forward to reading Fire and Ice next, as well as more books by Patricia Logan in the future. I’d recommend this book, series, universe and author to others.

4.5 stars... The final book in a amazing series. The story picks up the gang being together to help Adael and a mystery that would lead back to Israel. Adael was single but Race I think would worm his way into his heart.  Oh the guys of the team have to toe the line for the two gals in charge now..lol Diaz and Sarah are tough.. A matter of Adael's life was on the line and they have to act fast as the mystery deepens. A great story for Adael and Race with all the dramas and danger included. This has lot of back catchup reminders and repeat of information to different characters throughout the book. The ending was dramatic. I didn't get why Adael's Father's scenes happened at the ending other than being an over bearing father.  All up this was an amazing series and congrats to the author for writing this a great journey for the team which I've thoroughly loved.

Adael (Jarrett's Ex) woke up with a fuzzy mind and to find a dead hookup on his bathroom floor from a bullett.
Race an ex-Army, ex-FBI was surprised to hear Adael voice on the phone wanting help.

This is the ninth book in The Death and Destruction Series. You will want to read the previous books in the series to completely enjoy this book. Another Fantastic book the writing was great. This is a book I wasn’t sure about reading because I wasn’t sure I would totally enjoy it because of one of the main characters. But I am really glad that I did read it because I did indeed enjoy it. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters captivating. The characters were well developed and thought out. Race and Adael are the MC’s of this book. Along with all the other characters from the series. There was humor, a cabin, murder, poison, betrayal, fake passports, police, ATF, FBI, Israel and so much more in this book. I can highly recommend this book and the series as a good read. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

6+ stars! As you may know by now Thayne and Jarrett, are now 2 of my all-time favorite MC's EVER and I got all 10 books in the series. This book is about Assad, one of their "friends" but everyone plays prominent roles.

I binged on the first 8 books then savored the last 2 as I was dreading saying goodbye to them and all their friends and family. So very entertaining. I highly recommend reading them in order as the stories do build on each other, although you can stop after each one (well, in theory you can - I couldn't...)

I just love them all and can't wait to re-read this series again - probably when #11 comes out which is showing but with no release date yet.

Outstanding series! Race and Adael’s story, omg!

Adael is dying, poisoned and calls out to Race. What a great story pulling you along like a riptide! Race is such a great person and he is so attracted to Adael. Adael, a mossad agent, is always trying to prove to the father who left him and his mother that he is worthwhile. Meanwhile Thayne is jealous of Adael even though Jarrett has married Thayne. Thayne and Jarrett must work on their relationship while trying to solve Adael’s poisoning. Great story!

Nothing will be the same.

This wasn’t my favorite of the series, but it was still good. We got Adael finally getting over Jarrett and finding his own happiness. I liked the mystery. It was great seeing Race and Adael come together, but it seemed very rushed. There was very little to their relationship except attraction that never went anywhere and then all of a sudden we have forever. I missed more of Race and Adael falling love. That said, it was still enjoyable.

I am so torn with this review. On one hand, any story by Patricia Logan is an auto-buy. It's not that I didn't love this story, it did have two of my favorite men in the series and other regular characters I have grown to love. However.... This was a story about Adael and Race. While they got their story, it was overshadowed by the attention seeking characters of Thayne and Jarrett. They couldn't help themselves, I know. I felt that maybe Adael and Race missed out on that burn of attraction and were rushed to completion. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed the story and I love seeing the recurring characters but, the focus was not on the lovely Adael and Race enough. Still better than a lot of books I have read in the past. :)
