Delicious in Dungeon, also known as Dungeon Meshi, is a manga series that follows a group of adventurers as they explore a dungeon and cook the monsters they encounter.
The party continues to explore the dungeon and gather ingredients for their meals. Meanwhile, the elves' plans are progressing, and the party learns more about their intentions.
Overall, Delicious in Dungeon is a unique and entertaining manga series that combines dungeon-crawling adventure with cooking. The characters are well-developed, and the world-building is excellent. The art style is also fantastic, and the monsters look both terrifying and delicious. I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys fantasy, comedy, and cooking.
Laios and company realize that their encounter with changling mushroom rings had more consequences than they'd realized- its the body swap episode! This visual humor is contrasted against increasing dangers from both above and below, as nastier monsters and political machinations begin to close in on our heroic adventuring party. I'm now over halfway through this series and almost feel like I should start reading it more slowly to savor it, but I'll probably just keep devouring it instead.
Despite being fine, this seems like a very skippable volume in an otherwise good series. No real progress occurs.
I do like Captain Mithrun, a new character who has no sense of direction and a lack depth perception due to having only one good eye and yet has still very effectively weaponized her otherwise feeble teleportation skills.
Things are tense on the first floor of the dungeon. The elfs want more than their fair share, and have not very ethical means to obtain. Falin is among us (yay!) and so is the lunatic magician (oh no). We learn more about Chilchuck’s past.
Yess what a fun volume. Fighting mushrooms, seeing the elves in action and we also learn a bunch more about our main cast's backstories. Love love love this charming and fun series.
How is this getting weirder. At this point I'm reading the volumes so far apart that I've mostly lost the nuances of the plot but it is still so enjoyable??
Was this the best volume in the series? No, but I'm admitting to myself how much I love this series and these characters, how much fun I have every time I pick up a volume, and how interested I am in the dungeon lore. So, five stars it is. (I'm also going to go back and give Vol. 6, my favourite volume so far, 5 stars.)
I'm just so happy that there's a high fantasy comedy manga of such great quality around!
A whole volume showing off just how cool Mithrun is. As a Mithrun enjoyer, I approve of this message.
12/22/2021: ★★★☆☆ Still filler, but lots of fun regardless. There are some truly fantastic action sequences in this volume: super dynamic but still really easy to read. I was indifferent to Captain Mithrun when he was first introduced but he's growing on me. Also enjoyed the bits of Chilchuck's backstory we got.
I didn't like this Volume as much. There wasn't much progress and less awesome or funny scenes than in other Volumes.
Additional thoughts: - The change to different races was so funny. Like Chilchuck as a whole as Tall-Man. And Senshi as an elf. - The second change was even funnier. - Manneken Pis was a nice touch. - Don't really like the whole Canaries plot but damn Captain Mithrun is powerful. - I'm worried about Kabru. That slimy bastard grew on me. And I'm low-key shipping him and the Captain. They would be such a power couple. - Chilchuck being the father of three girls who are all full grown and nobody knowing about it till now is just so on brand for him. I laughed a lot.
I like how the manga manages to smoothly switch between the two storylines. Also : this volume is absolutely hilarious, the jokes are perfectly executed and I love how the storyis used to delve deeper into certain characters' pasts. It's a good way to keep the story fresh now that the 'eating monsters' thing has become usual
Still not convinced by the intrigue. But the biology, cooking, and comedy take enough space to satisfy me. And the action bits are surprisingly decent.
I picked this series up randomly, and I never expected that I would enjoy it so much. Although this particular volume doesn't do much regarding the continuation of the story, it still is a fine addition to the series.
This is by far my favorite volume. The effects of the Changlings? More back stories? The new elves. The giant walking mushrooms? All brilliant. Made me laugh out loud several times.
I wasn't a fan of the constant species switching in the dungeon. And I haven't made my judgement on the elves, yet, but the captain is pretty awesome. But we are getting further and further down in the dungeon and I'm excited to see what happens next.
Content notes: violence, some creepy non-consensual ear licking as one character restrains another, light swearing, a cute horsie being beheaded
This volume is so much fun! Really good visuals, and interesting sequences. Also, I would like to take this moment to say that Mithrun is such a beautiful character. I am on my knees.
another little treat for me!!! obsessed with how the main party is having a fun time switching bodies while kabru is having a harrowing political experience trying to subvert a genocide
