Without a doubt, there are many wonderful series available out in reading land.  Whether you are looking for romance, thrillers, mystery or fantasy- you are bound to find one!  However, every so often a series will come out which is so utterly captivating that it will grab you by the scruff of the neck and just won't let go!  You will be hooked from start to finish.  That is just such the case with Erik Henry Vick's Blood of the Isir trilogy.  Indeed, the final book of the series, Wild Hunt keeps the momentum rolling and absolutely does not disappoint.  For those looking to find resolution and further explore this fantasy land full of powerful gods, devious demons vicious shapeshifters and deadly dragons...Wild Hunt is the place to be!

Essentially, the final book of the Blood of the Isir series starts where Part 2 left off.  Thanks to Hank Jensen and his allies, Hel's forces have all been scattered and she has found herself in a particularly dire situation of her own.  The passionately loyal Luka is frantically searching for her as he himself is being pursued by our hero Hank and his group.  What follows is a breathtaking journey full of battles and a whole host of fresh challenges.  In fact, it is during these fascinating travels that we come to realize that Hel and Luka may be the least of the group's worries.  Evil forces are emerging which can alter the very fate of the entire Universe.  All of this is happening as Hank begins to come into his own, becoming more knowledgeable and powerful with each passing day.  The inevitable showdown is on... and the stakes are higher than anyone ever imagined possible!

Undoubtedly, the primary theme of this novel is a good versus evil one.  Nevertheless, there are other minor motifs which are prevalent as well.  For instance, the journey towards self-discovery for Hank and others is clearly explored throughout the book and series.  All of this is done amidst an epic and fantastical journey which proceeds at a frantic pace.  In fact, it is more accurate to say that the pacing of the story proceeds at lightning speed and encapsulates the reader in the process.

Make no mistake, the plot of the story is very intricate and intelligent.  The author has an incredibly imaginative mind which presents all types of beasts and beings.  However, they are not just thrown out there to twist in the wind.  Everything is cleverly tied together as the protagonist battles foes...as well as the conflict within his own mind.  We are able to see everything eventually resolve in chunks as the powerful story progresses.  Truly fantasy writing at its ultimate best!

Wild Hunt also lets us continue to track the progress of our favorite characters in the series, and introduces some new players as well.  Characters such as Althyof, Jane and Yowtgayrr are all presented and developed with their own host of unique powers.  As the reader, we get to see them develop and evolve through the pages.  Interestingly, we are also exposed to a more thorough look at Hel and Luka and are introduced to a whole new side to them.  Such development is truly engaging and engrossed me even further into the book by exploring their own particular background and situations.  By and large however, Hank Jensen as the protagonist is developed in the most detail.  If you look at his character in the first novel and compare it to Hank by the end of the final book... it is simply startling growth.

Overall, this was an excellent final book for the series.  The world building the author pulls off is stunning.  Also, the key element of believability is met within an imaginative land of mythical creatures and fantastical adventures.  Not an easy feat to pull off.  The dialogue between characters is natural and flowing and supports the direction of the work.  Everything in this book has purpose and the reader can truly get lost in the pages.

5 out of 5 Powerful stars for this one!  *****

It isn't very often that I have a WOW experience with a book. Much less a whole series. But Erik Henry Vick has pulled it off brilliantly with Blood of the Isir!

As I've come to expect, Alexander Cendese gives us a fantastic performance. He's one of the few narrators out there who can pull off convincing male and female voices, and while there's not a ton of variation in his feminine voices, it's enough that it's easy to tell characters apart. His vocal inflections are spot on, and his variations on tempo perfectly match the tension in any given scene.

All told, this is one of those stories that can be accurately described as an experience rather than a book. By the time we get to this one, there are already so many plot threads being weaved together that it's hard to see how they can all be resolved by the end.

Which is impressive in a book largely told in the first person. The honest truth is I almost stopped reading the first book on account of the first person narrative as I typically hate the style.

But I am so, so, so glad that I stuck with it!

Falling somewhere in the intersection of urban fantasy, dark fantasy, science fiction, and Norse Mythology, Blood of the Isir is easily one of the most creative, most imaginative stories out there.

While it can be a little frustrating at times, I love the usage of foreign/made up (not really sure which!) words for various things, the magic being just one aspect. And the way Norse Mythology has been twisted to create something entirely unique is absolutely fascinating.

Now, my minor critiques.
There were a couple of points where I was a little confused about who was who, but I think this is largely on account of it having been a few months since I listened to the first two books.

In fairness, this is not the most elegant, most beautifully written piece of genre fiction. Some aspects of the prose do leave something to be desired.

But the language is clear; the dialogue is realistic, natural, and engaging; and the descriptions are detailed and evocative.

I think I've mentioned this in my reviews of all three books, but it bears repeating that I absolutely love the interactions between Hank and Jane! It just feels so real, so authentic. Anyone who's been married for more than a year or two will understand that this is just how married couples interact after a while. And it's fantastic to see it played out accurately in fiction!

I love that throughout everything in the series, Hank's one overriding goal is still front and center. From the very beginning it has all been about keeping his wife and son safe and even throughout all the other crazy things that happen throughout the series, even at the end that's his one overriding motivation.

Now, if you've been reading this series then you'll know that there's a character from Norse Mythology whose stories have been closely approximated by Hank's experiences.

I truly hope I'm not alone in seeing this. I also hope that I was meant to see it.

If, like me, you've been seeing it, then let me just reassure you that it is not coincidental and it's not without purpose. It is leading somewhere.

Speaking of which, the ending. In light of some other aspects of the story, I really shouldn't have been surprised by the ending, but I was. There are some truly epic, incredible things brought into this book that definitely raise the epic rating and make for an awesome and memorable finale to the series.

And there is a decent twist pretty much right that the end that answers a lot of questions and makes the whole story so much more awesome!

This wraps the story up but it takes you the long way around, through an adventure that will leave you sitting back with a deep sigh of contentment. Hank Jensen fights to save his family against beings he thought were just stories. At every turn he is getting his limits tested and then some. After receiving a mysterious scroll that seems meant for only him the adventure just gets deeper. He continues to chase the one who killed his partner back on Earth and as his band of friends continues to grow along with his many skills. The coming trials he and the others will face are unlike anything I have ever encountered and truly enjoy this authors writing style. You want an adventure to test your imagination and then some? This is the series for you.

First off, I love these books. The first was a one-off “sure I’ll give it a try” read, but I was hooked from there. The author has an astounding ability to truly transport you into his world, and the characters are eminently relatable. I got so caught up in the lives and struggles that I found my emotions mirroring theirs. I cried with both sadness and joy more than once during this one. Huzzah Erik for another amazing installment of this series.

I liked the storyline very much. Hank has been through a lot trying to rescue and keep Jane and their son safe while tracking Hel and Loki. This book has many twists in it and a lot of questions were answered but many still remain. Several ‘King’ references can be found if you are a I am sure I missed some... Great job on these books Erik! Keep them coming!

A Triumphant Achievement

Wild Hunt is the astonishing culmination of the Blood of the Isir trilogy.

In the first book Errant Gods, we follow former New York State Police officer Hank Jenson through the back story of his previous encounters with mass-murdering cannibals Chris Hatton and Liz Tutor, who are not at all what they appear to be. After leaving Hank disabled with a curse eight years ago, they return to kidnap Hank’s wife Jane and son Sig, promising they will be kept safe as long as Hank pursues them. The trail leads him to Osgarthr, the realm of the seemingly magical Isir and many other races. Hanks meets and allies with Muehlnir and his family, who share many attributes with gods from Norse mythology. Turns out Hank’s new friends know Liz Tutor all too well in the person of Hel, deposed tyrannical queen of Osgarthr, and Hatton as her consort Loki. Confessing to unfinished business with them both, they join Hank in his mission.

The chase continues through Rooms of Ruin, the second book, where we encounter even more ‘magic’ in the form of applied advanced knowledge, even more daunting opponents in Hel’s service, ever more challenging settings & circumstances, and yet more battles. RoR ends with Hel’s disappearance, her forces in disarray, Loki desperately searching for her, and our party of heroes scattered with some seriously wounded among them.

Wild Hunt begins with the disclosure of Hel’s location and circumstance, and continues the tale of our band pursuing Loki and his new acolyte through ice giants, tricks and traps, scenes of unspeakable brutality and death, even to the far distant past where the catastrophic world-wide war that ended the prior epoch still raged. Along the way, we discover new dimensions where we suspected none, containing creatures vast and horrible, of evil intent.
Throughout the series, Hank gains Isir-like powers as he is endowed with greater and greater understanding of the hidden knowledge that supports the ‘magic’. This ultimately sees our heroes through their travails and ties the bow neatly between Hank’s destiny and the mystery of Osgarthr and the Isir.

Erik Henry Vick gifts us with some of the most imaginative, vividly drawn world-building you are likely to read. The story is inspired and exceptionally well told. The characters, their dialog and interactions are alive and multi-dimensional; they are made more real than some living people seem to be. The sweep and scope of this trilogy does indeed compare favorably to the LOTR and Dark Tower series. It’s that good. Put these books on your MUST-read list and follow the author. He is surely among the very best fantasy writers working today.

Nope.

Look, I like the author. And I liked his first two books (although his characters' incessant winking is a little much).

But no, I really did not like this third book as a conclusion. It felt extremely rushed.

More damning, however, was what he did to his lead character. Spoilers below.....

Hank basically becomes a dictator. He demands that all isir swear a loyalty oath to him, and if they do not, they are forced to wear collars and work as thralls. As for those non-isirs, if those races choose not to swear allegiance, he will close down their borders and make them pay. And then he uses the resident AI to insert sattelites over multiple worlds to watch everybody. Seriously, Erik, was it your intention to make him into our last President?

My favorite part is when Hank lets two serial killers off the hook despite the fact that they tortured and ATE numerous young children in our world. But that's ok, because they were manipulated, right? No, they were told of the manipulation by the Plaunimm, abdicated the throne, and instead of repenting, they moved to earth and began slaughtering more people.

Yes, the hel time-duplicate was fun (though obvious), as was Hank's eventual transformation into Odin. But there's no fixing this drek of an ending.

As I said, I like the author's writing otherwise, so maybe his short stories will be less disappointing.

Let me start by saying this is not my 'normal' genre, but I came across this author a while ago and he has me hooked.

This is my 6th read of his works (1 Novella and 5 full-length books) and I've thoroughly enjoyed every one of them. One almost learns a new language as we follow Hank Jensen, a former police officer, in his (literally) out-of-this-world adventures. The story line is tightly written and even though it is long (722 pages) each page offers up new clues as to where 'we' are headed. The characters are wonderful creations and Erik even slips in personal notes (Supergirl, and more) into the story line.

I have no hesitation in recommending this book to the reader, but you want to consider starting at the beginning of the adventure. Not a necessity, but would make it a bit easier!!

Enjoy!!!

I’m m a huge Erik Henry Vick fan and I was anxiously waiting for this book. It really exceeded my high expectations. Once I started reading it, I could not put it down. I love horror/dark fantasy (and revenge based novels) and this one really fit the bill. It’s a very visual tale that really lets you identify with the main character. Honestly, it is the best book I have had on my Kindle in a long while. I’ll probably read the series again in a year or two or just go ahead and purchase it on Audible once all the books in the series have been added. I’ve already recommended it to some friends. Keep the novels coming Erik - Gavin

This is an incredible series, I've enjoyed everything of Erik's I've read so far but the series is exceptional. Each time I thought I had worked out where the story was going I found another little twist on what I expected.
The world feels very real, the characters are superb - you can see how their characters are formed by the challenges they have faced, the friendships feel genuine.
I don't want to go into details for fear of giving away something important, all I can say is go read it. You won't be disappointed.

I did receive a free ARC copy of this book in return for writing a review. However I have brought the series I was just too impatient to wait for the official release date

I just finished this book (book3) 5 minutes ago. Highest recommendation I can give out for a series! Read this amazing story. Don’t let the length of these books intimidate you, it’s worth reading every word. What a wonderful surprise to stumbled upon this series and be swept away into other worlds and alternate version of Norse characters I’ve known all my life. It’s now fighting at the top of my favorite series ever list next to the Paternus series by Dyrk Ashton. The author has a fantastic writing style and an eye for details. I can’t wait for more stories from this series. Tons of magic, mystery, epic battles, legendary journeys, guns, dragons, Cthulhu like ancient dark entities- *sigh* it is it all!

WOW.... I DON'T KNOW WHAT MORE I CAN SAY OTHER THAN....STANDING OVATION!!!
JUST STUPENDOUS IS WHAT THIS IS. I HAVE BEEN SO ABSORBED THAT I FOUND MYSELF HOLDING MY BREATH IN PARTS WHILE READING. I FOUND MYSELF IN TEARS BUT NOT JUST FOR THE CHARACTERS BUT BECAUSE IT WAS THE END OF THE JOURNEY.
THE AUTHOR HAS TRULY PROVIDED A JOURNEY YOU MUST TAKE AS THESE BOOKS ARE JUST SUPERB.
THE STORYTELLING IS SO VIVID YOU FIND YOURSELF THERE WITH THE CHARACTERS. YOU FEEL THE PAIN, SADNESS, JOY AND SORROW.
YOU CAN READ THIS AS A STANDALONE BUT IT WILL SPOIL THE JOURNEY OF THE PREVIOUS TITLES DUE TO SPOILERS YOU WILL LEARN. I 100% RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND I RECEIVED A FREE ARC FOR MY HONEST REVIEW!!!

What a fascinating mind trip! Wild Hunt, Erik Henry Vick's third book in the trilogy The Blood of the Isir does not disappoint! Hank's journey continues as he and his family and friends continue their quest to hunt Hel and her Champion, Luka and save the Isir. Their quest takes them far and wide, in ways only the author could have imagined. This was a wonderfully imaginative ending to the series. Great job!

Absolutely incredible series. I honestly can't say enough good things about it. The world building clicked. It all locked into place giving explanations about things without becoming too wordy and over explaining everything. Character creation pulls you in, and you feel a full range of emotions for the full cast of them. I really didn't want it to end and I hope he decides to write more in this world that he has created!

Only thing I didn't like was that it had to end.

I don't normally write reviews but I had a lot of fun reading the Blood of the Isir books and wanted to say something about one of the most enjoyable series I have read in a long time. I thought it had a very original concept and the use of Norse mythology is interesting. It was very well written.
I can't wait to go more adventures with Hank and his family.

This is the 3rd book in the Blood of Isir series. It takes off at a brisk pace, continuing the story. Hank, Jane and the Cadre continue their pursuit of Hel and Luka. It is tumultuous, ennervating, and totally captivating, at the same time. There are trials and tribulations at every turn. You will be guessing throughout. You won't see the end coming. I didn't. It is a delightful read. I hope there will be a 4th volume in the series.

I read this book recently. It isn't a genre that I usually read but I did. I had some difficulty getting into it initially because of the difficult names (non-English). It was a little hard to get started but once I figured who was who, it flew from there. Great story. I could picture the different settings and people and the story made me want to keep reading. This is a great story.

An incredible ending to an incredible series. This is a story I was able to escape into, as in escaping to another world where I could forget this place and my problems and just focus on the story world. What an awesome author who created this fabulous story and this one was the best yet!

A scrambled mess.

Wow. Where to start. Loved the first book. Was really looking forward to reading the next book. Too much inconceivable and irrelevant detail in the third book. The only reason I finished the book was I hate to buy a book and not read it. Was disappointed overall.

Wonderful complex world

I really enjoyed this series but it would have been much more enjoyable if the author had provided some kind of dictionary or reference guide of names, places, etc . The author has built a very complex universe and I got very lost at times trying to figure out terms
, who's who, places etc. It is for this reason I don't give it 5 stars.

Allow a week for this continuation of the saga that began with Errant Gods. Wild Hunt picks up after Rooms of Ruin and can be read as a stand-alone, although that risks spoilers if one then goes back to read the earlier books.
