JUDGEMENTAL AND SHALLOW BOOK FROM A WOMAN COMPLETELY OUT OF TOUCH. Ill just point out 2 things that really bothered me.
1) she writes something like .. Pam was on whole30. She liked it and lost some weight... then she had a some cake and pizza at her sons birthday and stopped whole 30. Pam likes to go on and off diets. Do you respect her? No. ( AH WHAT?! You now dont respect Pam because she wanted to eat cake and ice cream again? What does Pam's eating habits have to do with respecting her? Is this author trying to sound relatable? Because judging Pam for yoyo dieting does not sound like she is talking to the masses of women that struggle with that same issue. ) 2) Then she proceeds to say that some girls were talking about shaving their toes in high school. She proceeds to bash them as to why they would do that and their must be something chemically wrong with them that they even have hair on their toes. WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL!? Ah, we are humans. We grow hair. If you want to shave it then shave it, if you dont then dont. Why is someone judging someone else like this?
Honestly Rachel sounds like a fake woman trying to find herself and ATTEMPTING to sound relatable. She does not. She sounds superficial, shallow, judgemental and mean. These are qualities I DO NOT LOOK FOR IN A SELF HELP BOOK. This makes me so sad that women are reading this and wanting to be more like her. She does not sound like a role model I would want any young woman to aspire to be.
I had to give this one the coveted five stars. The writer's style is conversational giving you the feeling you are at a coffee shop sharing.
Beyond that charm is her ability to be very vulnerable, tell her truths, in their most painful, honest way. In a world where honesty is so rare, it is also so refreshing.
Wonderful - I thought it was going to be light weight and was so pleasantly wrong. Reminder to self - don't prejudge a read!
Love when she writes that we shouldn’t break promises to ourselves. If we had a friend constantly bail on plans then we wouldn’t want to hang out with that friend anymore. Be a GOOD friend to yourself. If you say you are going to gym tomorrow. Then GO!
Solid read. I appreciated her candor and her straight forward-ness. I feel that she could have made her point more succinctly but her writing style was enjoyable and easy for read. I picked up the book because someone had asked how I felt about it and I hadn’t heard about her or the book at all. I shared points with friends that I wanted to basically snippets here and there. Would I recommend it? I wouldn’t recommend against it. I think there’s stuff in there that could potentially help someone or provide a needed boost.
She made a lot of good points, but I think I’d appreciate this book more if it wasn’t deemed a Christian book. It seemed to me that Rachel was trying to be of both the Christian & secular community, which is disappointing to me because of how great her following is—hate to think of women who are weak in their faith looking to her as a godly example.
This book is easy to read but most of her advice is either common sense or varying on the side of ignorance for other people’s circumstances and the inequity our world grants people.
I was excited to receive a digital copy of this book to read it. Honestly, I am not the target audience for this book. It is just another self-help book nothing special and new was added in this book. Once thing I noticed was that there was a lot of Christian talk which is not what I am personally interested in. I found the author being pretty much self-centered writing this book. I didn’t find anything new for me in the book. And the author didn’t really offer any advice in this book. I didn’t find it as exciting as I heard about it in social media.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for sending me a kindle edition to read and share my review.
I was literally puking my way through this book. I got half way through and I had to put it down, which is something I haven’t done in 10 years.
Overall it had a pretentious vibe while trying to remain humble. The “raw” moments in this book were brief and rest of the book consisted of underlying arrogance that was disguised with a, girl next door/life coach vibe. I honestly don’t even know how this was published because the content is so dry. I was simply disappointed.
Really great uplifting read. It's very vulnerable and I am grateful that Jessica shared her experiences with us. It gives me the courage to look at the hardships in my life and face them to help me grow. This book is a great reminder of our strength as human beings. That we have the power. That we have to decide what to do with it and to focus and refocus and work towards those goals. I love the mantra that she has and it inspired me to create my mantra. Great read.
Check out my full review. I would recommend reading this one before stop apologizing. This is a step in the right direction while SA is a plan. GWYF is the initial kick in the pants you need to go for it. This was a quick read and very motivational.
Love this book. It is all about not playing the victim, but making a choice and then seeing it through to completion. Everyone has struggles, but deciding to get up and move forward is a choice you make. Live your own best life.
Tried reading this couldn't stand it. On the advise of a friend, I downloaded the audiobook...game changer! The author narrates and I love her. There are some chapters that I don't relate to at all but many more that I can easily see myself in her words. Definitely worth a listen.
Not my favorite! I thought a lot of it was kinda "no duh" stuff. Some things did stick with me, but overall I was mildly annoyed at her lifestyle blogger perspective.
This book has everything I would tell my younger self I loved it. Such good advice and so much fun to read. I would highly recommend it to women of all ages.
I'm very disappointed that this book is considered a Christian book. Though she claims to be a Christian, she seems to be a rebellious preacher's kid that likes to brag about it.
I liked the book at first because it’s conversational. When she started getting into her beliefs on self-medicating...specifically about food... I said woah. It just went downhill from there when she shared everything about other topics. She is not the know all on everything, even with her experiences. She comes off as a superficial climber. Great to hear her perspective, but I hope people aren’t taking everything to heart and making themselves hurt by what they are interpreting from the content of this book.
This book is not one that I would usually pick up but I’ve been making a lot of changes for the better in my life lately and something told me I needed to read it. I’m so glad that I did. I very rarely cry but this book had me in tears and gave me goose bumps throughout. Truly life changing and just when I needed it. I just bought Girl, Stop Apologizing as well. Thank you Rachel Hollis for a pure honest and amazing book.
Great motivational book. Rachel's honesty is inspirational. I found most of the "truths" to be relatable. I also really enjoyed getting a glimpse into what are the most common questions asked by fans. I think it's interesting that everyone is looking for community, friendship and companionship but because we are all so afraid to be authentic we lose the opportunity. Our world is full of judgement and comparison. I am hopeful this is something I can work on in my life.
