Sterek Stiles Stilinski is trying to juggle homework, high school, stupid dumb crushes on unattainable people, and werewolves. Keeping the supernatural secret from his dad is hard enough, but when it comes to Stella, his eight-year-old sister, it turns out it’s impossible. Words:52278 complete
I love a good TW reimagining. This one took the core basics of season one of the show and added some interesting spins to it - first and foremost in the form of Stella, Stiles’ smart and sassy eight year old sister who joins him in his discovery and camaraderie with the Hale werewolves.
I enjoyed the hell out of this one. As a huge fan of the show itself - not just the magic of the Sterek fanfic fandom - I would have LOVED if this had been how the show originally played out. It kept most of the plot and background, with minor adjustments and uniquely imagined flourishes, and the characterisations remained spot on! But where it excelled the most was in the bonus character addition of the new Stilinski family member and in the actual realisation of the Sterek romance we readers continuously hunger for.
Stiles and Derek were perfectly portrayed and I adored the way their relationship unfolded in this telling. Little Stella Stilinski was an awesome creation and one I now wish had have been a staple character in the show. The Sheriff was just how I like my Sheriff best: fiercely protective of his children and sarcastic as all hell. Peter Hale is, unsurprisingly, as creepy-awesome and hilarious as ever. Chris Argent is a total badass. Scott is still a mindless twit and he and Alison are practically non-existent on page (just the way I like them in my fic reads). And Lydia and Jackson were great and played fairly big supportive roles here, too.
And did I read correctly that there will eventually be a sequel? Because HELL YES!!!
This was another fantastically delivered DW fic, and, of course, no one should be surprised by this. Sterek fans go forth and enjoy! <3
Sterek. This is touching and snarky. I love Stella, she's a younger more id version of Stiles, and adds a light-heartedness to the gravity of the situation. Nice balance. DW does some interesting twists to the canon, personally, I liked Jackson--which I never say. So there's that.
And, I love the Sheriff. DW always does a great job with him.
Once again, I find myself wishing that LH wrote for the series. I'd have probably kept watching the show, and not given up somewhere in Season 3 like I did. And not just because she gives us the Sterek romance angle. I think adding in a completely new and integral character made the whole story more interesting. Stella wasn't an annoying kid, wasn't overly precocious...and I loved how she made Derek more - I don't know, real? More approachable, lovable?
***3.5 Stars*** Not my favorite Sterek by DW, but I enjoyed it! I really liked the beginning, felt my energy drop after a big climax and then just waited for the other show to drop—which it did.
I adored Stiles’ and Stella’s interaction as brother and sister. Also feel-worthy were the moments between Stella and sourwolf Derek.
No heat, but some lingering looks, soft caresses and healing.
My rec? If you’re a Sterek and DW fan, you can’t go wrong!
Quite excellent Sterek, season 1 AU, where stiles has a little sister, Stella, and things change a bit, but it ends up in mostly the same place by the end.
Leaving this unrated until I do a re-read. I don't know if it's the slower updates but I never felt invested in this story, even when 'moments' happened I more thought 'here's the emotion' than felt it. While the concept of Stella in relation to Derek seemed good, in reality Stella added very little to the verse and worse seemed to dilute Stiles, stealing his snarky lines. I spent the first few chapters with a heavy thought of Buffy and Dawn, then as I got used to her Stella seemed almost forgotten.
The Sterek relationship was sudden with no build up, much happening off-page. Even the final showdown seemed fade-out, in DW's notes at he end she mentions someone being alive and I honestly wasn't aware they were!
Unlike DW's other fan-fic that create a strong worlds, this one relies on the reader being familiar with the verse.
There is humour and moments and the Sheriff being great, but overall this was meh.
DW is always great. I’ll have to read this later once I’ve forgotten a bit (aka not as a WIP) and see if the Sterek still seems a bit outta nowhere. But it did end up being really sweet and nice. Great ending, totally brought a smile to my face.
Not my favourite DW Sticks close to 1st season canon mostly but with the addition of Stella who fades into the background about a quarter in A sequel has been hinted at so maybe we'll find out why she's there
I've read fics where they change the family dynamic that we know and mostly it does not work. This worked. Better than worked, this felt natural.
This was such a great take on the original storyline. I loved the little changes, the things that remained the same and how it all ended up at the end.
I liked this but there are little nuggets or discontent: - It was not ok to have Stella witness so much bloodshed and violence; Stiles seemed more affected than she was (and Stiles was twice her age); She was kidnapped, saw people getting shot and burnt alive and yet, she was calmly colouring in her book the following night, listening to the grown-ups plan murder and cover up; no fear, no apprehension. Sure, she was clinging to her dad or Stiles during the climatic events but otherwise, she was a ball of sunshine; - As much as I like Sterek, this romance came out of nowhere; I got no feeling from Derek that he was interested in Stiles. For that matter, both were lacking reasons why they were drawn to each other; they hardly had any interaction other than Stiles suddenly deciding Derek had had a bad hand dealt by fate and wanting to 'adopt' him; and once the main issue had been resolved, they were inseparable (despite Derek practically ignoring Stiles for the first half of the story); - It was barely halfway through that I finally understood the plot and the various twists and turns of the story. Who was really the villain, what Peter was doing, what Derek was doing, how the Argents were involved. I found it annoying.
To summarise, I wanted Stella to be a mini-Stiles bringing twice the fun and spark to the story but she ended up taking the spotlight from Stiles (Meep's review). A couple of times I stumbled over a typo. Good story overall but wasn't pulled in by it.

I really liked the beginning (first 30-40%) and the addition of Stiles' sister Stella, her interactions with Stiles and Derek, but I kind of lost interest in the story after that. Not among my favorite DW's stories.
