The Invisible Heiress

Rate this book
From two-time Book of the Year finalist Kathleen O’Donnell comes a gripping psychological thriller filled with unexpected twists.

A psychiatric patient with a dark secret

Preston Blair, a blogger with a dark sense of humor, is committed to a private psychiatric hospital, accused of a shocking crime. Her father Todd’s influence as a D.A. has kept her from prison, but her sanity remains on a knife-edge.

A therapist with an agenda

Preston’s therapist, Isabel, is too preoccupied working her latest con on a rich, married, sadomasochistic secret lover, to care about Preston’s problems, even when Preston tells her that her socialite mother, Harrison Blair, had committed an unthinkable crime herself years before—one that might help explain Preston’s own misdeeds.

A shocking secret that begs to be told

When Preston’s absent husband, Brendan, suddenly turns up and tries to prove her innocence, tragedy strikes. Preston’s convinced her parents were involved, but it turns out to be much more complicated. As Preston delves deeper into the mystery, her head clears and a devastating event that she had long erased from her muddled mind comes rushing back.

A killer that cannot be stopped

Stumbling onto video evidence, which exposes a killer’s greed and lust for power, Preston finds her own life is in danger from a surprising and once trusted source. She discovers that the truth hurts. It just might be the death of her.

Fans of Gillian Flynn and Jessica Knoll will love Kathleen O’Donnell.

Author Kathleen O'Donnell weaves a gripping psychological thriller with intriguing twists and turns that will easily captivate the reader’s attention from the beginning. The author paints a dramatic and riveting tale of intrigue and suspense in a very vivid and convincing way. In addition, the characters are drawn with great credibility and conviction. It’s a fast-paced novel that will keep you engaged from the first page to the last.

The book description gives a sneak preview: ‘Preston Blair, a blogger with a dark sense of humor, is committed to a private psychiatric hospital, accused of a shocking crime. Her father Todd’s influence as a D.A. has kept her from prison, but her sanity remains on a knife-edge.

Now, if that’s not enough to get your curiosity juices flowing, I don’t know what will. But if you want to find out what happens, you’ll just have to turn the pages for yourself! However, I will say it was well worth the read. It’s my first time reading this author and I must say I was very impressed.

I enjoyed the story, character development, and dialogue. There were plenty of plot twists that I didn’t see coming and that added to the book’s mystique. When I stopped reading to work, I found myself wondering what happened in the book, and replaying parts of the novel in my head to see if I could figure more out. It has been a while since I enjoyed a book this much. It’s a first-class psychological thriller with perfect pacing. Not much is as it appears here, which is just the way fans of mystery, thriller and suspense will want it!

The Invisible Heiress had every element a good story should have. An intriguing plot, attention to detail, but best of all fleshed out, well-written and well-rounded character development. There’s an abundance of well-illustrated scenes that make you feel like you are right there in the story, and that’s something I really look for in a good book.

It’s one of those stories that come along once in a while that makes you want to read it non-stop until you get to the end. I’m giving nothing further away here. And this, I hope, will only add to the mystery and enjoyment for the reader!

I’ll be looking forward to reading more from Kathleen O'Donnell in the future. I would absolutely recommend this book to all fans of the mystery, thriller and suspense genre. Five stars from me.

I received this book to read and review. Straight up, didn't think I was going to like it. I kept reading and before I knew it I couldn't stop reading. Preston comes from a very dysfunctional family. Almost everyone around her are keeping secrets. She has to sort thru a mess to finally find the truth. The truth isn't always easy to handle. There are a lot of twists along the way.

Thrilling THRILLER!

A non-stop bundle of riddles, zingers quips & quotes, one liners and sarcastic punns make for an intriguing storyline of suspense that explodes throughout this thrilling read with a winding twisting road of BUMPY as all get out twists with mind blowing unexpected-ness that some rendered me speechless. This amazing read defiantly keeps you alert and on your toes and turning the pages. Never read a story written like this one so koodles with the cleaver idea and executing into this captivating thriller. An unpredictable nail-biter that is a must read.

Damn!

O jeez, this book was too good! I couldn’t get over how unexpectedly confusingly amazing every scene is but how it all ties together at the end in a perfect bow. It was like literally reading a roller coaster. Especially the main character and her quirky sense of humor, it is just tooo goooood!

The Invisible Heiress is a great thriller.

It starts with Preston committed after attempting to murder her mother. Throw in a shady, psychotic psychiatrist with BDSM issues, a rich family no one can touch and a pair of secrets, and you have the recipe of success.

Now why have I rated this three stars?

Because none of the characters actually make you feel invested in what happens to them. Preston has a nice arc throughout the book, but Isabel is a mess, her psychiatrist Jonathan is just as awful, Preston family feels stuck up and ordinary.

The plot is interesting, Preston trying to find out what happened that night and finding nice, surprising twists along the book.

And because it felt a bit dragged. I figured out some stuff before getting halfway through the book and it was nice to have the confirmation later on. But the writing is good, a lot of attention to detail. I loved the switched POVs from Isabel to Preston and Preston's blog. Her replies to the comments were hilarious.

Loved the Breaking Bad references. It was a great, interesting read.

Hard to put down lots of twists

So many characters in this book however they all play their part in this twisted story.

It starts with Preston being in a Psych hospital for trying to kill her mother. Isabel is her therapist, but let me tell you she is a WHACK job.

Rosalie is another patient that Preston takes her anger out on but she is so sweet.

Brendan is Preston's husband that has left to do his own thing but comes back into the picture to help.

Todd her father is a DA with power.

In this story you go through between Preston and Isabel to learn what really happened that fateful night. I figured out one of the main bad people early on but you don't know how far that deceit goes to the very end.

The Invisible Heiress blog helps you understand how Preston is feeling as she works to discover the truth.

It was really a great story that will stay with me, and I recommend it to anyone who likes thrillers!

The Crazies are Running the Asylum

A family with wealth and status should be a happy one, not the Blair-Fitzgerald's. The daughter in an asylum for attempted murder of her wealthy mother, her lawyer father a wet dishrag, and a very unusual psychiatrist make this story in one word "unique". There was a murder, maybe. The psychiatrist is a thief, a blackmailer, a gambler, and hunting for a husband. These people are so unbelievably entertaining that you keep turning pages to see what they do next. They don't disappoint - as bodies do start to fall and a real murder is uncovered. I was gifted this by the author.

WOW! What a ride... occasionally through the read the question was; "Where is this going?" From the beginning, you knew there was more to what was the relationship between Preston ( the Heiress) and Isabel ( the Psychiatrist). This was much too convenient to be coincidental.

Walter White to the Rescue

A very dark psychological thriller, Kathleen O'Donnell's The Invisible Heiress will keep you guessing to the very end. The intricate plot is peeled back layer by layer as the invisible heiress bares all through her Blog, From The Dented Throne.

Suspenseful

This was a pretty good psychological thriller I've never read anything by this author before. It definitely is a page turner, and it sure wasn't who I thought it was, and what I enjoyed most is it doesn't come out until the end. Happy reading everyone 😉

This was one of the best novels I've read in a long time. The psychological twists and turns had you guessing all the time and you were still surprised because you couldn't pick the correct twist to fit your assumptions. This had wonderful characters, intense subject matter and a satisfying ending leaving me to say, I have to read this author again if only to see if the author can do it once more.

What a great story!

This one is chock full of Aha! moments...or not. Loaded with plot twists and turns. Guaranteed to keep you guessing. Excellent character development and very engaging characters. I loved the Heiress, even though she was crazy, murderous, and despicable...or was she?

Great book! A twisty and fun psychological thriller. I have to admit that when I first started reading this book my mind was going what the frilly heck and as I continued to read my mind was still going what the frilly heck. This book is about a totally dysfunctional family unit. Most families have a few “wow”things in their closet, but this family doesn’t have a closet big enough in their mansion to hold their wackodoodle things!

The main female character, Preston Blair, the Invisible Heiress has a dark, weird, wrong sense of humor. I thought it was great. She writes a blog giving facts about her life and wants her followers to weigh in with comments and suggestions. She is anonymous using only titles as the Queen, the Jester, etc. to identify those listed. Strange and inappropriate comments follow each post!

I believe this is a book you just have to read because trying to explain it is, in my opinion, like herding cats. I’ve never been good at that.

Take a chance, try It!

This book is what one would expect from a good psychological thriller.

It has characters that I don't necessarily like but who have unique personalities that add to the story. There are constant twists and one doesn't know exact how it will end. Told from the view of two different characters helps with adding twists. A lot of action and a pretty fast paced book.

Preston's blog also added to the story and it's development. Won't tell much about it but it was a good idea.

And we have Walter White and Jessie Pinkman in it, hard not to like this.

WOW! What a griping book! I was invested from the moment I started. The really felt as though I knew the characters based on how *real* the author made them. There are twists that will keep you hooked. I hesitate to say more as I want any new readers to get the full 'experience' of this book. I highly recommend!

I am not sure how this book found me but I am so glad it did, I love how Kathleen O'Donnell writes. At first, I thought I was not going to like this book but in no time I was hooked. I didn't want to stop reading because I wanted to find out what was happening next. The story is not an easy one to guess which I love and the author doesn't relieve much until the end. I was so in love with Kathleen's style of writing that I started "The Last Day of Rob Rhino". If you love psychological thrillers you will want to read this book.

On the fence

The style of this book is decidedly different than anything I've read. Part blog, (not my favorite) part past life and part present tense. At times I felt lost and confused but not enough to stop reading. Certainly at lot of back stabbing, money grubbing, greedy, no counts contribute to this story. Recommendation a toss up.

Good book!

The evil that some men and women will do for money is found in this book in spades!

Preston is the pseudo heroine of this book and she’s in an insane asylum. SUPPOSEDLY she tried to kill her mother with a package knife.

The story goes way down hill until almost the very end when the evil doer comes to light and the two heroines reunite.
