Just a little Love One demon’s quest to win his amina’s affection brings him into contact with someone who’s a danger to paranormals everywhere.
While out on assignment to collect a human’s soul, Lindemere catches the scent of his amina, his soul, the person meant to be his reward for a thousand years of service to his master, the Horseman of Death. Distracted, he ends up in a trap meant for a gargoyle. While Lindemere could have easily gotten away, he decides to play along in hopes of getting a chance to speak with and perhaps woo his human. Before he even has the opportunity to learn the sweet-smelling man’s name, Lindemere’s master comes for him. During the course of the fight, Lindemere’s amina is injured, so he takes him to the demon realm to heal…and also in the hopes of beginning their bond. When the human wakes, Iago reveals that he considers paranormals selfish and prideful, an elitist race, and they should share their secrets of healing and longevity with mankind. Can Lindemere discover the source of Iago’s suppositions and find a way to change his mind, or will Iago refuse his suit in protest of what he considers paranormals’ slight against humanity?
Sorry but I don’t care how misguided his beliefs were, Iago still knew he was experimenting on sentient beings unlike the converted scientists and guards in previous books. His attitude had my hackles up for most of the book and it felt to me that the only thing that changed his mind was the sexual pull to mate and the lure of a lab of his own with willing paranormals. I’ve been looking forward to finding out what happened to those rescued in the previous book but only the angel was mentioned. What a disappointment.
On an odyssey trip through the Stone Ridge World series in order. Almost 200 of them! Individually I usually rate them a 3/5 - there is only so much an author can do in a short story or novella, and because there are several overarching plots and each book has a mini plot that does not always get wrapped up - the individuals are okay as stand alones. Some of them bomb and come in as 2/5 as they have holes. A few actually managed to hit 4/5. However; as a series binge they become a satisfying smorgasbord of reading.
Another demon story in this world where this time around the Amina was met in the last book in poor conditions. Iago was a lab assistant experimenting on paranormal creatures when he accidentally captured a demon, Lindemere. That brings down the horsemen and now in this book Iago wakes up in the demon realm at Lindemere's home. The two have a lot to work out.
Iago seems to be a bad fit, what with the experimentation and his mistrust of paranormals, but there is much he needs to learn and is willing to learn. Lindemere is endlessly patient and kind, wanting his Amina to be happy but also to be kind to others. They do a good job together that is fun to watch. Another good book in the series!
I really liked the demon, Lindemere, in this story, and he had some significantly awesome tricks up his sleeve. His mate was a scientist, Iago, who was experimenting on paranormals, so I didn't like him much throughout the book. The plot is well done and filled with excitement, danger, and, passion. Overall a very unique and entertaining read. =)
This story jumps from a battle in a lab and starts in the demon realm. Iago learns he has been manipulated and no in a good way. But another strike is made against the scientists
Rating: 3 stars I have pretty much given up on Ms. Richard’s books for one reason or another, but a friend lent me her copy, so I gave this one a try. It was okay. The blurb didn’t really inspire me to want to read it so I will say it was somewhat better than I expected it to be. My main issue with the story was Iago. I really don’t feel he was redeemed enough in my eyes. Poor Lindemere didn’t really have a choice in amina and if he were honest, he more than likely wouldn’t have chosen Iago. The other good thing was despite being way too short, it did end in a good place. Some of her books end really abruptly and it was a nice change that this one didn’t. Overall, it was okay. I am mildly curious to see where the series goes from here but not sure I’m curious enough to buy the next book.
This story follows on directly from ALN 17. After Iago was hurt in the fight at the warehouse Lindemere takes him back to the demon realm. As he earns his trust we find out why Iago thought he was not doing much harm. Another villain to take down and a hint for another story. I enjoyed the reminder of what the demons who work for the Horsemen can do and the cameos from 2 other demons. Their stories were so long ago I had forgotten where they fit in the universe.
