I’m having an out-of-body experience. At least...I think. Isn’t that what it’s called when your spirit abandons you to watch—from a safe distance, with the appropriate amount of judgement—while you make questionable decisions?

Yup. I’m having one of those.

I want to shout “STOP, ELLIE, DON’T DO IT!” But spirit me doesn’t have a voice. So I watch as she...I...we? makes a sex contract with her...our...new boss.

This is a good time to mention the 45-minute HR meeting we sat through last month expressly forbidding this sort of thing.

In our defense, Max is ridiculously hot, and I...we may have accidentally quit.

With a sigh, I look down at the bodies pressed against the wall of the executive office.

Yup, we’re totally screwed.

We have a disgusting man as a hero, who gives the heroine the name of "Piss Girl" and calls her like that for 2 months, just because she came to work on the first day with her shoes smelling like piss as she stepped on a piss puddle.

His way of thinking and acting all along the book is abhorrent...

Some examples:

Piss Girl isn’t like the runway models I typically bed. She’s hot as fuck, sure. Her light brown skin looks butter soft and her toned body swells in all the right places, but the smell of poverty literally radiates off of her. Who am I kidding? I’d probably still let her wrap those pouty lips around my cock.

***

You know the saying you catch more bees with honey? Yeah, I don’t subscribe to that notion. I give zero fucks about making friends and care even less about hurting people’s feelings, especially the sexy, smelly girl in front of me.

***

“Maybe if you’re a good girl, I’ll let you lick me clean."

And of course, we have a woman who thinks with her vagina as a heroine. At first, she seems to be a sassy woman and there is a bit of a banter between them but as soon as he says he wants her, she drops her panties... oh no, she lets him rip them and put them in her mouth...

I want this man who I shouldn’t want, because he’s a rich prick and because sex with him is sure to end in disaster, but none of it matters right now. Not in this moment. “I need this,” I moan. The panties in my mouth fall between us, and we stare at them.

Oh and when they do it the first time in his office, they do not use condoms and when she says they should, he says, “Come on, Piss Girl, let’s have high-risk sex.” and of course she is so needy that she agrees.

Well, I tried some more chapters but I hated both characters and their interaction and this fact never changed till 50%. Having seen that I am not enjoying anything about this book, I throw in the towel...

*********************************************

Let me say one last word:

Creating an as*hole hero and making the readers love him is not an easy task, it requires great talent. I am a reader who loved the king of the as*holes: Baron Spenser in L.J. Shen's book "Vicious" or another hero many readers hated: Travis in "Beautiful Disaster" by Jamie McGuire so don't take it wrong, I can love an as*hole hero if you can make me but this book and this writer couldn't.

4 Big Dick Energy Stars ⭐️

“I’d rather smell like piss than pompous asshole.”

Preston Maxwell Anderson III is a prick of the highest order. Apart from looks and wealth, he has no redeemable qualities. He works hard and plays harder and gives zero fucks as to what others think of him. And when he crosses paths with the unfortunate temporary assistant Ellie Chase, well he has no regards for her either..

Her lips are puckered into a slight pout. Perfect for sucking dick, I muse.

It’s like my dick has a mind of its own, his curiosity piqued by the doe-eyed, piss-scented girl kneeling before me.

Now Max, may not care for his new assistant, but her sassiness and curves have him very interested. In the past he would have tapped that with no reservation, but now it would be a HR nightmare. All he has ever wanted was to climb the corporate ladder so he has no intention of sabotaging his chances with a fling.

“She’s a new shiny toy and I want to play with her, but I can’t because my father played too roughly with one of his toys and now we’re all in time-out.”

If Ellie thought her life couldn't get worse, she was sadly mistaken when taking the position with the alphahole. Being referred to as 'Piss Girl' by new boss Max, is just the beginning of hell. Biting her tongue isn't her style, but a girl needs to eat.

That is until they both come to a mutual arrangement that makes them wonder if they've both lost their minds.

“This will be quick and rough.” Max bites my lip hard, then says, “The next five will be me destroying your pussy for any man who comes after me.”

“Fine, five times not including this, then my pussy and I,” I whisper the dirty word, “are going to find a nice man with a huge dick to settle down with, not one who is a huge dick.”

OK truthfully I spent the first part of the book wanting to throat punch Max. He was asinine and intolerable. But wow me, Carmel Rhodes writes some of the funniest and filthiest dialogues, that I just didn't care.

𝟣. 𝒩𝑜𝓉𝑒𝓈:
This ARC was given to me by the author in exchange an honest review. Pretty Little Mess is available now on amazon and in Kindle Unlimited!

2. 𝑅𝑒𝓋𝒾𝑒𝓌 𝑜𝒻 𝒫𝓁𝑜𝓉:
Ellie is a young woman in Brooklyn that is just trying to make it in the world around her. Max is making his way up in the business world and smells of money and authority. When these two worlds collide, only one thing is bound to happen ... a pretty mess.

They are complete opposites in every way and yet when Ellie agrees to a sexual contract with Max, whom she works for, all hell will break loose.

Carmel Rhodes always gets it right. She listens to her characters and they never lead her astray. She has the most creative and talented brain I have read and her sexy scenes are steamy and always hot. She loves to write about alpha males that are opinionated, protective, and absolutely commanding. Her heroines are strong, sassy, and is NEVER afraid to put the hero in his place.

Max and Ellie are no different. Throughout the story you see Max transform from the alpha (hothole) male to someone who realizes what he needs in his life; a partner to listen to him and guide him into the man he wants to be and needs to be in order to push through the barriers set up against him. Ellie goes from a young lady that struggles with thriving and surviving in the city to a woman who takes charge of her life and those around her. She learns about herself and what she is truly capable of. Carmel writes complex characters and always, always writes their growth with such ease and determination.

All of her stories are a must read, but Pretty Little Mess is by far the rom-com you are going to want to dive into.

4 BDE stars for this office-interracial-romance

I debated on lowering the stars, but I ended up really enjoying it by the end (even though a couple of things bugged me).

Ellie’s in need of a job. Her nighttime bartending doesn’t bring in much and her education in fashion isn’t helping her right now. Her twin sister recently left her culinary job, so she interviews to be an assistant to Maxwell (30). She doesn’t realize that the man she got stuck in the elevator with (who also cornered her against the wall and grinded against her lol) is the man she’s going to be working for. He’s also the one that nicknames her p!Ss girl 🙄😑.

Max’s a player, a commitment phobe, and enjoys life. When his dad and the company forces a non-fraternization policy after his dad gets accused of r@p!ng a woman, he gets upset because he wants his new assistant. He’s a grump as it is, but knowing he can’t have her angers him even more. When she accidentally sends him a I-hate-you-a-hole-I-quit email, he takes advantage… and IT. IS. ON🔥.

Oh Lordy- have mercy on my kindle- the smexxxy times were fire 🔥🥵. I mean. They had chemistry beforehand, but once she “quits”, all hell breaks loose, and I👏🏻enjoyed👏🏻it👏🏻all. All the pent up anger and tension explodes. It’s primal, animalistic, passionate and raw. The amount of biting, grabbing, and ripping was 💦🔥🥵😅. It’s so SPICY and DIRTY, that c@nd@ms weren’t even used, which I love 😈 (don’t worry. The H is clean and always used them before). From the office bathroom smexx, to the edging when she eats lunch with a guy, to the back room in the bar, to the plane ride, and countless others, man, their physical connection was visceral💦😉!

But it was emotional as well❤️. As their intimate contact continues (they even negotiated how many times they’d do it lol even that scene was hot), they keep opening up, showing that their connection’s beyond the physical, and I loved that!

I love how j/p Max is. If a man looks at his girl too long, he confronts them. His alphaness comes out when she’s wearing certain things and isn’t listening about changing💁🏻‍♀️ I mean. If her outfit’s a little too revealing, of course he’s gonna throw her over his shoulder and show her who’s boss 😜. And then get her to cover up a little, cause no one but him should see that much skin 💅😂. Gahhh!

The things that bothered me:
His nickname for her 😑🙄. He calls her p!SS girl because the first time they meet (in the elevator), her shoe smells like urine after she steps in a puddle. He also calls her baby, but not as much as that stupid nickname 😐 throughout the whole book. Once he realizes his feelings, it should’ve changed 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Oh and calling his childhood family friend wiener 🙈

The OW scene. When one of his previous f buddies stops the elevator she and Max are in after she sees he gets excited thinking of Ellie, he doesn’t stop her fast enough 🙄😑. He gets lipstick on the bottom of his shirt. When the elevator arrives and she’s seen getting up as he’s fixing his shirt, it looks like something happened (Ellie and two others see it). In the aftermath, I wanted Ellie to make him grovel more (even though nothing happened- thank God we have his perspective and see exactly what happened), make him grovel girl. Make his suffer a little. If this scene doesn’t have a purpose, why include it? 🤷🏻‍♀️ I appreciate how he bulldozes and doesn’t let her stay mad, but man, suffer a little 😂💅.

I really enjoyed it all.

⚠️safety squad⚠️
-no cheating/sharing
-manwhore/commitment phobe/non v h
-cheating (his parents)
-OW, a previous f buddy, stops elevator when she sees H’s hard (he was thinking of h). She manages to get his pants undone and gets red lipstick on his shirt. He grabs her and pushes her away. As the elevator opens, he’s buttoning his pants and she’s getting up. Of course the h sees
-OM- there are men that flirt with h, but she never responds. It only makes the H even more J/P
-no c@nd@ms- she’s on the pill and he’s clean
-praise kink/mild daddy
-spanking/throat grab
-family drama

PLM.
Opposites attract.
Enemies to lovers.
Rom-com.
Office romance.
Sexual contract.
Drama and angst and steam.
FREAKING EVERYTHING.
And it’s not just another office romance, it’s one of my favorite office romances!

Carmel Rhodes blows me away with her first rom-com! I cannot tell you how much I floved this book!!

Pretty Little Mess had me smiling and laughing like a loon over the banter, swooning over Max, totally relating to Ellie, and falling in love with their instant chemistry!

“This girl is a mess. Pretty, great rack, but a fucking disaster on two legs.”

Max Anderson didn’t expect that the girl he meets in the elevator, Ellie Chase aka Piss Girl, would become his sassy and awesome assistant!

He’s in for a treat!

*****

Max Anderson.

Sexy. Mysterious. Cocky AF. Playboy extraordinaire. Arrogant. A man who has it all.

Ellie Chase.

Lovable. Quirky. Sassy. Sweet. A girl who’s just trying to get by.

The instant chemistry between these two was explosive and spilling off of the pages! It turned an arrogant and cocky playboy Max to show his softness when it comes to playful Ellie!

And just when I thought I knew where this story was heading, Rhodes gives me a story that I don’t expect!

*****

The first few pages kept me intrigued, the story kept me captive, and the characters stole my heart!!

If you’re into hilarious banter, steamy scenes, a dash of sweetness, drama, and a ting of arrogance... this is the office romance for you!

*****

If you haven’t read a Carmel Rhodes book before, stop everything you’re doing now, and grab THIS book! I promise you, you won’t be disappointed!

Her writing style is phenomenal, her characters hold so much depth, and the romance is always hot!

"The girl is a mess. Pretty, great rack, but a f*king disaster on two legs."

Carmel Rhodes KILLS it with her first rom com. I had the biggest grin on my face almost the whole time... (she does slip a dash of angst in there to keep us on our toes). Max Anderson is your hot, mysterious, cocky, playboy that falls for sweet, quirky, lovable Ellie Chase. Their chemistry is instant from the second they meet, and I spent the rest of the book, trying to breathe under their sexual tension. Throw in the part about it being a forbidden delicious office romance, and I was dying all the deaths! Rhodes' wit shines through the pages and I found myself laughing out loud at Max and Ellie's banter, and Ellie's inner thoughts. If you're familiar with Rhodes' work then you know that her love scenes are FIRE but watching them fall in love while trying to navigate said love scenes was a full blown inferno. I loved loved loved Pretty Little Mess and I can't wait for more funny, witty, sexy rom coms from Carmel Rhodes!

I don't know if I read the same book as everyone else did but this book is not working for me. It is driving me crazy that he calls her Piss Girl as a pet name... Even though she asks him, many times to STOP calling her that. She is not consenting to that nickname and it is so disrespectful. It drives me crazy.

So I had to stop the book and refrain from rating it but I will be honest, it was headed towards a 2 star read if I kept going. This book was recommended to me and I wanted to give it a fair try but 40% is too much for me.

So.. yeah.

Max & Ellie forever!

This book had everything for me. Carmel Rhodes is quickly climbing the charts for me as a writer. I love her style, the way she develops her characters and the steam level is off the charts!

“My focus is singular: ascend the throne. I’m done with being the prince, I’m ready to rule. I’m ready to be king.”

Max is an alpha-hole if I’ve ever read one. It’s the bad boys I love so much, especially when love kicks them in the a*s out of no where.

Ellie’s character was hilarious and all things black girl magic. She was strong, sexy and love tapped her on the shoulder too.

If you like office romance that is forbidden with a delicious alpha that has an amazing storyline—this is for you!

4.25 Stars / 4 Steam Fans

Pretty Little Mess is a delightful taboo workplace romance that I eat up! The narrators also helped with the enjoyment. Ellie is a clumsy fashion designer looking for her big break, and Max happens to be that break she is looking for. If you worry about the HR aspect of workplace romances, this may not be the book for you. However, if you are like me and thrive/crave that type of messiness, then Pretty Little Mess is the book for you.

*ALC generously provided by the promo team in exchange for an honest review*

This girl right here didn’t know how much time an audiobook consumes!!! LOL. I wasn’t ready. This is my first time reviewing an ALC. I loved Ellie. She seems so energetic and full of life. I rooted for her to survive this hell called Mr. Anderson’s company LOL. She and Max shared a lot of steam – which was amusing to listen to by the way. They brought the heat! Carmel Rhodes definitely serves us with a story of intrigue and drama. The family dynamics are on the one hand lovely and on the other highly questionable. And. Dysfunctional. This was an easy listen (even if it took a long time – it feels like a long time because I read so fast I feel), and I was highly entertained.

Carmel has done it again with PLM! If you love to read smoking hot steamy office romances with lead and supporting characters that draw you in to their world and leave you wanting more after the final page then you won't wanna miss out on reading PLM. The firey clash of wills and off the charts chemistry between Ellie and Max is hot no question, but it's their story that makes you fall in love and root for this couple as they battle towards their forever and fight like mad to achieve their dreams. Loved this one so much and I want to read more stories revolving around this fantastic fun cast of characters.

5 I WANT MORE MAX AND ELLIE STARS! I gobbled PLM up in one sitting. I couldn’t get enough of the chemistry that sizzled off the pages. This hot AF, enemies-to-lovers, office romance had me swooning from the get go. I loved seeing Max’s usual arrogant, cocky self turn soft when Ellie was around. Not that it was hard to do. Ellie’s sweet and caring could turn even the hardest of men into mush.

I can’t recommend Pretty Little Mess enough. I think any romance lover will fall in love with Max and Ellie along with Carmel Rhodes.

Aaannnnd I’m done...at 3%.

He’s referred to the heroine as Piss Girl, insults her real name, says she radiates the smell of poverty...but he’d still let her blow him. How generous.

And tops that off physically comparing her (in his head) to the supermodel he “was balls deep in” literally the night before.

Be still my fucking heart. Gross.

I liked the book and the banter between the main characters but then, it started to drag around the 60%-70% mark. At that point, there was barely any plot development and it just felt like it was too many pages too long. It could just be me since there were a lot of people that enjoyed the book.

Where do I begin with Max and Ellie? Max is ultra-hot and arrogant with a layer of sweet buried under his hard exterior. Ellie is fun and spunky with sass and can hold her own. The chemistry between them jumps off the page and you’re rooting for them from their very first interaction.

Carmel has a way with words that forces you into the book world and makes you forget everything else. The characters are so well written and complex and she makes you feel like they’re your actual friends. Pretty Little Mess is a romcom with a fantastic story and depth. All romance lovers will love and appreciate the relationship between Max and Ellie. I can’t recommend this book enough!

Oh my freaking God! This is one HOT office romance.
Sex contract with the hot boss? Sign me up!
You need to read this. Carmel smashes it out of the park with this one. Max and Ellie are from two different worlds, yet together they’re a perfect match. From their very first encounter to the end, their interactions are brilliant. If you love assholes, to quote Carmel, with “big dick energy” and sassy women then you’ll enjoy this story.
I don’t want to give too much away but every little detail throughout is just spot on and pulls you into their world.
This is definitely one to read over and over again.

Every book that I have read by Carmel Rhodes I have loved and I am pleased to say that this book didn't disappoint me. Pretty Little Mess is an office romance book between Max and his new assistant Ellie. I absolutely love both Ellie and Max and I found myself hoping that their relationship works out.
Max is the boss who has it all while Ellie is the assistant trying to find the rent money, but she refuses any help and doesn't put up with any of Max's attitude. The chemistry between then is explosive and there are some steamy scenes.
Carmel Rhodes has done it again with another brilliant book. I would recommend this book and its definitely worth 5 stars.

What can I say about a book that haven't been articulated?

I'm only sitting here beside myself after coming off this high this book place me on.

The author created a plot line that felt real almost as if it had been plucked from the pages of a romantic movie. The characters came to life without massive info dumps. I could picture every scene clearly, starting from the moment Ellie and Max met in the elevator. That exchange was comedic, yet intimate, and it showed the different culture. The attire they wore and the way it’s depicted made their differences come to life for me.

This book is out of this world. I've read quite a few romance books, and It’s hard to find treasures amongst the garbage some of these writers be putting out. I'm so happy that this wasn’t the case.

The author concentrates more on the main characters on their day to day life, their interactions rather than focus on secondary characters, which, I think, makes the plot, all more appealing. I believe the way they slowly grew feelings for each other was cleverly done and this is what made it so unique from all the other romance books I've read. The sensual scene are at a hot pacing rate, they always leave you fanning your face.

This book is like a roller coaster, and Carmel Rhodes is a marvelous writer. I'm enthusiastically looking forward to reading more of her books.

Readers who enjoy fast pace books with likable characters, this is the one for you. You won't become bored when reading this book.

Carmel Rhodes, first off, I love Max and Ellie’s relationship banter, he’s a total ass and she’s sassy enough to kick his into place. Then there’s the side chatacters Erin (Ellie's twin) and Jalen (Max’s best friend), now they’d make an interesting couple too.

The book also gives you the backstabbers willing do anything for power, not giving two shits who they tread over in the process.

This book is light hearted with a wicked sense of humour and had me LOL.

⛔⛔⛔SOME SPOILERS⛔⛔⛔

Ellie is a hot mess, she needs cash, gets a job in a business she know zip about and to make things worse day one she ruins her new Wangs, gets stuck in the elevator with a cocky sexy AF A-hole. Said A-hole is her new boss and she’s about to make a deal with the hot cocky bastard. What can go wrong?

Max knows he hot property, cocky, top of his game and any willing hot hole with no strings attached is the way to live. And his new assistant is about to become his next play thing, but she’s so out of his norm, she’s sassy, hot as sin, can put him in his place, and owns his dick under contact terms. Will but will he want it to end?

Will they get an HEA? Or will someone end up broken hearted? Will the backstabbers win?

Max and Ellie are nothing short of LOL amazingness! From the second they meet their chemistry is off the charts! Everything about them is a big fat NO this isn’t supposed to happen. It was everything-the banter between these two. 🤣Holy Hot Gravy on a Biscuit, were the love scenes ever smokin . 🔥 FIRE Y’ALL! Max and Ellie are hilariously awesome and forbidden and just straight delicious! I couldn’t help but to fall in love with their love story! 😍 There is so much more to Max then just a sweet-talkin, panty-dropin’, playboy. Ellie is funny, sweet, and sassy at the same time. There is so much to discover and enjoy about their story, but I refuse to give away any spoilers. This is a must read! Loved every single word from the very first to the last! So many stars for P3 and P*ss Girl!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🙌🏻😍

I've had this book for the longest time and eventually just got around to reading it. It's one of my favorite books and I've read it multiple times.

Ellie meets Max in the elevator in a not meet cute situation, though I did love the elevator banter. Max wants to know what's that smell she's emitting; she may have been splashed by dog pee-puddle (egads!) on her way to her first day on the job and in her favorite shoes, no less. She does not make a great first impression, but she's unforgettable all the same.

You've read enough books to know that the man in the elevator is her new boss. Now, they need to resist each other because there is a no fraternization policy thanks to Max's philandering father. You know how well that goes. Now, they have to stay one step ahead of HR, the staff wanting to oust his father and all the nosy nellies at work. Well, you know how well that goes and when Max is determined to be his own man and he lays everything on the line, including his feelings for Ellie, publicly--it doesn't go the way either of them planned. Ellie will have to decide between money and love. What will she choose?

Read It! Highly Recommended.

You know the saying, don’t bring your relationships to the workplace? Well, Elie and Max, Boss and employee, don’t just cross that line, they break it. This was definitely a pretty little mess that I enjoyed getting into.
Happy Reading Friends!

I’m so glad I didn’t quit on this book. I wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy it, but I loved it! Lots of funny banter, raunchy mixed with some sweet moments. Definitely recommend !

It was enjoyable. Alpha hero, kinda of a jerk, but I did really like Max, especially as the novel went on.

Ellie was really great. There were times I wish she would have stuck to her guns a bit more, but I liked that she had heart and grit.

Their chemistry, especially in the bedroom was FIRE. Carmel Rhodes can write some steam. STEAMMM.

The narrators were not my favorite, particularly when they did other people’s voices, but it didn’t ruin the experience for me. I also didn’t love the nick name. It was bad, and even worse when I had to listen to it.

I will definitely pick up more books by this author.
