DOUBLE TROUBLE Rumors of unrest lead Fran and Teacher to the port of Seedrun, where the intrepid duo uncovers yet another large-scale slaving operation. In their quest to liberate the kidnapped children, they find themselves unexpectedly playing guardian to a pair of twins from a very special lineage—one that might just have yanked Fran and Teacher into the middle of a civil war!
I feel, after reading certain light novel fantasy series, that I have to re-evaluate the ratings I have given other fantasy novels. This third volume was difficult to keep picking up. The writing can get very repetitive and while the author often suggests there is a lot of action going on, the descriptions of that action are bland. The world building is limited, and character development is shallow. At least we didn’t have another dungeon dive. Onward to Bulbolo and Ulmutt dungeon next volume...
I have to admit, this is one of my favorite series. This book continues the adventures of Fran and Teacher. We get to see far more of the world and get a good glimpse of the politics of a couple other kingdoms.
Compared to the other books in this series, this one was good, but I didn't quite enjoy it on the same level as the others. Sure, I gave it the same rating, but it's leaning more towards a 3 star than the previous two did. Why is this?
The political stuff really didn't do it for me. It was nice world building, but a lot of it seemed to flow almost too easily. From the beginning to the end of the entire revolution, it is only half a day and everything is solved. Also, a big fight that has been building through the story ends with Teacher using another Deus Ex Machina, making the winning of the fight feel hollow and unfulfilling. (and the fact that it solves ANOTHER problem they were facing later on makes it even worse)
Still, this book introduced some interesting characters that I am sure will play a part later on in Fran's dealings with other countries later on. I am curious as to what will come of those characters and especially the whole thing with the Water Dragons.
In the end, I still liked this book and look forward to reading the next book in the series. Yuu Tanaka has a really easy style to read and the illustrations are a pleasure anytime I came across them. Easily one of the more unique isekai series out there.
This is a review directed to the web novel reader, and can be SPOIL(you can read until the bold text before it start spoiling) for the light novel people who discovered it, there will be a tiny foresight and I hope I don't spoil much on this specific book but I will.
I am going to simply state as my review what we lose versus what we win in the different story added to the novel, I will also explain from where I think the story in this book came from, spoil Web novel up to after ulmut and arrive to beast kingdom 'arc'but just the sea part that happens before the continent. (I will write "____ arc" sometimes but I don't really know how they are called so I will just name them.)
so beware spoil, there will be a small review without spoil at the end of this review in bold (if the bold thing works)
First, let me start with the lose (negative) and lost in the story;
Lose: The battle where fran destroy 8 ships also using a boulder being badass; some part about the objective and the spy, also some other specific of diablo (sword); the scene with the 'sword of truth; (0then some foreshadowing about what might happen in the next books, spoil of webnovel festival of moon, food, evil alchemist and demon) I think it loses some element of this 'arc' like the spices which has some use, and the I think important alchemist guild box; (spoil for the second sail in webnovel)there will possibly not be a badass sea battle panic as there will possibly be no dragon warship; also we lose to the fact that it makes me feel as fran is now in the center of (everything) a story in which she only receives the backlash real later in the web novel which makes it lose something to the story as it makes me feel as nothing happens which isn't related to Fran and makes feel as the world around doesn't do much, at least not as much;(there might be other thing but that is for the loss).
Now wins(positive): (beware, it will spoil this light novel 3 as much as the webnovel) we win a new full story which isn't in the novel and isn't bad; fran gets more 'backup' than the 2 royal prince and princess, which can be interesting and helpful later (backup also means friend); furthermore we gain another full book by sacrifying two unrelated to each other or any other big "arc" which creates this book as we can't have story that can be one or two chap without wasting them in a book so why not put them both in a book, so we win a new story; also we gain in exchange to some of the whole(in my opinion) we also gain extra infor on Diablo other than what we know of the original route, also gain some more story about another country and others; and importantly more info on master/teacher.
Review without spoil read even if you have read the spoil above: in any case I advise to read it and make an opinion, I for now prefer the direction of the webnovel(up to last translated chap 339) but the light novel is good and gains something in exchange of other loss, this is my third ever review of anything in my life so sorry for anything and I simply wanted to find a site to express some of my loss(dissapointment) yet I am going to keep reading start vol 4-5 to see where this is going, I don't know if I can edit my review of which I created an account jusst to write but it feels better after writing one, even If proven wrong I won't come back and edit my foreshadowing. (oh and sorry I forgot to reread myself)
edit: I sorta changed my point of view but the wins and lose sorta stay the same so I am going to leave it.
Travelogue, politics - light version - and various trappings.
This third tome is yet another stop toward the McGuffin dungeon, whose existence is simply a pretext to have Fran the catgirl travel the world, make friends, beat up enemies and try to kill insane sea monsters far over her level.
All of which makes this third book work, kind-a. The only problems remain that the trapping of lightnovels drop a bit the quality - in my western perception - of the series. Simple, fast, not meaty. It's a kind of guilty small pleasure (and one of the few books I finish in a single day).
A fun romp. There are secrets and betrayals in this volume, but I’m sure you’ll figure it out fairly quickly. That doesn’t stop the fun, though. We get to meet new characters and expand Fran’s world! Nothing major happens this volume, but what I did take away from this is that slavery and positions of power seem to be the main themes being worked in this story. Light novels have a bad habit of having slavery in a medieval setting be a plot device, so it’s nice to see more being used at here when it comes to consequences and it’s affect on the world.
this story has a lots of action lots of World building and character development and enjoyable read. my only complaint is that every once in a while the story goes off in the tangent and starts talking about spurious details that do not go with the story but does tell a little bit about the personality of the main characters mostly the sword, other than that it's a fun read.
The main battle was nonsense. Fran and the Sword don't even use skills. The enemy can't detect their skills and knows nothing about the sword's abilities. And they chat to the enemy during battle. It is a joke.
The rest of the book was politics and intrigue and none of it was interesting.
Maybe I will read the next book, but I should just wait for the anime. In this case the anime is far better than the books.

Another fun romp. Like any RPG, you have a destination but will have many side quests pop up along the way. The whole volume was a side quest as we’re still making our way to that dungeon Fran and Teacher wanna check out haha.
I like that Fran got to make friends along the way in this volume but it’s sad she had to say goodbye. Hope she gets to make a squad one day and have adventures w them.
Sometimes I just feel the next feels like an hour talking about nonsense instead of action just repeating and regurgitating crap over and over again to try to stretch the chapters out so they can make it a whole entire book when they just shut your mouth and say what’s gonna happen next or what should happen next
Still a bit inconsistent and clumsy, but we can feel the author trying hard at writing new stuff, this time with royalty. I would have liked to get to know the twins more, and see more of their friendship with Fran, but at least this time we didn't lose entire chapters to grinding and checking skills and got some story most of the time. Phew.
Another good book in the series. And, a little but of a teaser towards the end. There is more than meets the eye with Teacher. Hopefully, we'll find out more in the next installment.
Fran and Teacher get distracted on their way to the dungeon, getting involved with royalty, pirates, a tyrant and slavers. The story was entertaining, but it left me a bit disappointed. Teacher is a bit too naïve, the threats a bit too weak, the dues ex Machina rescue unnecessary and the obsession with food is getting stale. Still, not disappointing enough to remove stars, but I hope things change a bit in the next parts.
A 9hr audio book. Worst book so far, did they even level up or get any crystals? And that last fight, no spoilers, but, I think they forgotten all their skills and abilities. Overall, this was a character building story and it was not bad, but I did not enjoy it as far as the Litrpg side goes.
Fran and Teacher try to head off to a big port town. They get caught up in a royal heredity problem, and must help the Princesses of Seedrun. Fran fights a powerful foe. I am enjoying the series so far.
It was a good read but it wasn't nearly as good as the book before it. There wasn't many villains that were monsters and it had no dungeon. I really missed that.
Maybe this is rose-tinted specs, but I thought the first two books were better. This one did pick up a bit toward the end, but it didn't exactly make me want to read the 4th book.
I've been following the English fan translation of this novel online for a while. This volume adds a bunch of new content, in a good way. The new stuff is integrated into the plot, rather than just a side story. We get character development and expanded plot elements. Yay! Ready for volume 4.
I really enjoy this series and seeing Fran grow as a character there are still many unanswered questions about the reincarnated sword but I feel that as the volumes continue to progress we'll find more answers to those questions. The story focuses on a kingdom that is attempting to enslave its people due to corruption but overall the story had a good pacing and I just couldn't put it down.
