I am writing about the 2nd set of books titled "The Haunting of Riley Watson" because I read the previous set and reviewed them independently.
I like the characters. They were well developed and very realistic in many ways. I look forward to any new books that Skylar Fin writes.
A small comment about the writing. I enjoy reading an author that is not American, try and write stories about Americans. There are always little clues showing these differences, like toast being left to burn in the oven. Few Americans toast bread this way. However, one thing that seems to be consistent with Brits is the misconception that police and social service people need permission to speak with minors here in America. Children can and are questioned without the benefit of parental or legal representation. Even very young children can be questioned by police without these safeguards. I just thought I would let you know.
I really enjoyed reading these two great stories. The first one, The Haunting of Meade Mansion was kind of predictable, but it was still well spun and worth reading. It was the second story in this collection that truly gripped me and made it near impossible to put down. The Haunting of Riley Watson is one of the best ghost stories that I have read in a long time. Everything was not just well plotted, it was done so in such a manner to keep you guessing and then when you thought you knew what was going on, it changes. Truly a great collection that is worth having in your collection
Don't turn out the lights I saw this boxset promoted on Facebook and was intrigued, so I bought it. Who doesn't love ghost stories? This Restless Spirits Boxset contains two very chilling mysteries full of ghosts with lots of twists & turns that will keep you guessing who done it. Can the heroes & heroines make it out alive? If you read this at night, you may want to keep the lights on and huddle under a blanket because it's that creepy.
The problem with a philanderer is that you are never sure where the seeds sprouted without a blood test. Angry spirits don't let secrets stay buried. Mix the two together and you get a great mystery story. Still not sure how the tangled tale of who owns what was proven when all the people that could provide the truth were dead.
If you love reading about ghosts of murdered victims, these books are sure to please! Very thrilling, full of twists and turns that will keep you reading late into the night, but keep the lights on!!
I could not put this book down. I am so glad it was a boxed set. Murder and mayhem with ghosts and psychics thrown in made two great stories. This author knows how to keep the reader engaged and wanting more!
From start to finish I was held captive. I thought I knew who the bad person was, but I had no real idea why. I never would have guessed the right answer. Can hardly wait to find the next book.
The books were indeed riveting! I was glued. The suspense was killing. Never a boring moment. Looking forward to more paranormal thrillers from Skylar Finn.
the two sets of books in this collection is one of the best i have read in awhile. my only compliant is that i would like to read more about the people in the stories.
The first three stories were good, the last three were ok.
I liked Skylar Finn three stories the Haunting of Meade Mansion really good. The stories by Alexandria Clarke where not my type of stories. Ghosts stories don’t interest me. It was well written though.
How does a whole household manage to just disappear, never to be found - no bodies , no clues, no sightings. But that is exactly what happened to Emily's aunt, Mathilda and the orphans that she looked after. Missing? More likely dead. When Emily inherits the mansion, and finds that there are ghosts in there, she is convinced that someone has killed them all and that someone may still be at large and perhaps may be ready to kill her and her husband, Jesse too.
I am not into horror stories, but reading the blurb on this one, it sounded more like a cozy, with ghosts and it was. Interesting storyline, clever plot, enough surprises to keep you on your toes. My first Skylar Finn mystery, and it will not be my last. I will be looking out for more from this author. Good read!
I received an ARC from Booksprout and this is my honest opinion.
Matilda home was for the unwanted children, rather homeless or orphans. She has disappeared.A lawyer calling Emily informing her the house and property is hers, and it is in Colorado. With the rent increase, it is that or back to parents basements. Income wasn’t something they had with trying to write. With him a musician, and foreman. They would give six months to fix up and sell. Noticing the old fixture, linoleum burnt ornate counter tops. , What about the others that lived there would they be welcomed. The walls held sadness, hope of better days. How will Emily and Jesse decide to sell or make a home. Interesting and well worth time reading both of them.
