THE DUMONT CHRONICLES

Bedtime? Story time! Gloria Repp’s earliest memories center on the stories her father told at bedtime. “What kind of story would you like tonight?” he’d ask, taking her onto his lap.

She always had an answer, different every time: “About a princess. And a lion. And maybe a horse—a brave, kind horse.”

After she learned to read, Gloria found stories on her own, but the ones she told herself seemed the most satisfying. Her mother died, her father remarried, she was sent away to school, and on many nights she treated herself to another imaginary adventure.

She became an omnivorous reader as the years passed, and finally she recognized what she’d always wanted to do: write down her stories for children to read.

She studied the craft of writing juvenile fiction and then began. Her three children seemed to like her stories, so she took the long road to publication and found that others liked them too. Since then, she has taught creative writing, worked as an editor, and written more books—for children, teens, and adults.

Many of Gloria’s books reflect her love for wilderness, and she says that the oceans, mountains, and forests of her childhood in Hawaii and Canada provide an inspiration she has never outgrown.

Recently, she has been exploring the New Jersey Pine Barrens, an incomparable wilderness of woods and rivers, bogs and ruins. One memorable spring evening, she listened to its frogs and found them irresistible. Before long, the hours of tramping through abandoned cranberry bogs bore fruit, and she began to dream of stories about a tiny Pine Barrens Treefrog named Pibbin.

Pibbin’s adventures have taken shape, young readers enjoy them, and each year she goes back to the Pine Barrens for more. The Tales of Friendship Bog continue.

Repp's second book in the Dumont Chronicles takes places across the country focusing on Aunt Lindsey so you will not be lost if you have yet to read the Jersey based first book. What is the same is how easily Repp pulls you in and makes the readers feel vested in the Lindsey's life as she tries to find a foothold in a new place that cannot be more different than the city life of NY she is use to.

This the second book in the Dumont Chronicles is nothing like the first book. That in my opinion is a good thing. This time though the author shares more scriptures as Lindsey finds her place with God. Her father had used and twisted God's word during her growing up and the one true connection she had was snatched from her. Now in the midst of chasing a story she finds herself knee deep in turmoil, not only for herself but for the source of her story. It's not an action packed read and really is more of a come to Jesus read. For me it was enjoyable but for some it may be a bit on the slow side. Reading about the change, the opening of her eyes to being lead and fed by God's word and His people is always soothing. To know that I am not the only mess helps but it also reinforces how He works in lives and changes you. I will be finishing the series just to see what else this author has in store.

Three things enticed me to read this book: the beautifully mysterious cover, the setting (my birth state), and the hints of suspense in the book description. I’m so glad I did! Rarely have I read a story that stirred me as much as Deep Focus. At a time when purpose eludes me, Lindsey Dumont’s search for answers became my own.
Faith is not a mere inclusion in this story; it’s the pulse behind every plot line, every page. I appreciated the liberal use of God’s word to direct, correct and lovingly encourage.
Each of the characters in Deep Focus is multi-dimensional, some menacing, some quirky, and others immensely appealing. Gloria Repp draws them so clearly, I feel as though I would recognize any of them on the street. And the setting—gloriously rugged, it’s a character in itself.
I received this book through a special offer and highly recommend it. Intriguing characters and incredibly layered mysteries earn Deep Focus five stars.

This is the second book in the Dumont Women Chronicles. I have to say Gloria repp has created the representative of modern women confident, working and but also kind and helpful This is the story of Lin , the in and out aunt in the first book.
The story is good it has all the elements of betrayal, hope love and not giving up and compromising what heart does not agree with and also that when one one door closed either another door or window opens.
This could have been a great story but drags a little in the middle and has too much of religious content and that though not directly says One religion is only one though I appreciate that the author never condemns others.

I must admit I struggled with this book. Repp's descriptions of the setting are lush and vivid and, to me, are the strength of the story. I could really sense being there in a rugged, remote yet beautiful corner of the world. It was easy to root for the main character, who is the most finely drawn of the ensemble. For me, however, the pace was entirely too slow. I was halfway through the book and still waiting for something significant to occur. The persistent injections of Scripture and conversations about God often felt forced and served as speed bumps for the story, in my opinion, though some readers may enjoy that.

I am simply in love with this woman's style of writing. Gloria Repp, your works are a delight to read and the way you potray the characters is beyond amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed reading every bit of this book. How can you not when you simply feel inspired by the protagonist's courage and will to push her limits and keep moving forward no matter what life throws at you. Can't wait to start reading the third book. Also, can't wait to see what mysteries unfold regarding shula, ginni' will and also the love story between Lindsey and Colin.

Alongside our modern view of the damage the institutionalized Church has inflicted upon humanity comes this beautifully written story. A small town group of regular, everyday people -- confounded by racial hatred, lies, cheating, kidnapping, even murder -- finds comfort and internal guidance through searching the words of an ancient religious manuscript. The positive and non-preachy tone of the writing left me feeling that humans do have a chance to be their best selves, acting with compasion and grace.

Deep Focus (The Dumot Chronicles Book 2)

I'm not good at this so hear goes! I love the energy I felt this Author produced with all of the charactes. I usually skip read when the story drags, not in book 1 or this book 2. I love the Bible verses and how the Character were touch with them. Looking forward to book 3. I recommend these books to anyone of any age.

Courageous

This is an exciting novel in which the author is not afraid to write about topics that some consider politically incorrect: Christian message versus Islamic jihad and native American religion. A must read!

As with her first DuPont Chronicles book, Deep Root, this took me a while to get into, but the book is nicely written with interesting characters and story kind along with a string Christian message.

Intriguing

Enjoyable. Intriguing. Somewhere in the middle there was so much activity I almost felt dizzy. Loved the characters, the complicated relationships and cultural influences. I can relate to the faith journey many of them were taking.

This is the second book in the Dumont Chronicles series and takes place in Washington state.

Lindsey Dumont is a photographer for DogTales Magazine and travels to do an article and photograph a rare breed of Makah dogs. While she's there Lindsey runs into some roadblocks not only with her work but also in her personal life. Will Lindsey find a way to get the story she needs? Does she have the courage to do what is right?

I enjoyed getting to know Lindsey and the other well developed characters in this story. The author shows how important faith is especially in times of trouble. She also reminds us that having Christian friends inspires us and learning God's word gives us strength to fall back on when things get rough.

The importance of forgiveness for both parties is shared in such a way that it will stick with you long after you put the book down.

I didn't have a single favorite character in this novel. Lindsey, Ginni and Colin were all special in their own unique way.

If you are looking for a book with suspense, friendship, faith and mystery, with a touch of romance, this is one that you will enjoy. I will gladly recommend this book, and series to my friends.

Deep Focus by Gloria Repp is another great story about forgiveness that also has a very compelling mystery and enough romance to keep the romantic reader happy. Gloria does an excellent job in the development of all elements of the story. One thing that really appealed to me was the adorable little girl, Ginni. I loved her use of the word “entrancing.” As I read this book I was living the story right along with all the characters. I highly recommend this book and I even think that men would enjoy it as much as women. I received a free copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Note: I was a beta reader for this book and that is when I read about Ginni and her use of the word “entrancing.” Gloria and her editor decided that it would be better to change the word to “enchanting.” It was not the word itself that caught my attention but Ginni’s use of an unusual word. No matter which word she used, Ginni was an adorable little girl and her dialogue added enjoyment to the story.

I was sent this book for review and found the writing excellent, so that it flowed from page to page like a river travelling to the sea, revealing not washed stones but interesting characters set within a gentle plot.

I cannot say that I agree with many of the philosophical beliefs nor yet the ideas regarding the myth of God or religion, however, I can respect its 'goodness' and that maybe the mysteries of life can be rooted in something far beyond our comprehension.

This story was a tale well told, its writing holding my attention until the end and too, the complexities of the human condition, regardless of what is 'believed'.

Worth reading, not only for how it's written but also something to make the reader ponder.

Well written with clear descriptions that make you feel like you are right there. I love how the author incorporates information from the books location into the story. I was given a copy of this book for my honest review and highly recommend it!
