I can't explain how HOOKED this volume had me. Yashiro and Kou are trapped in a perfect world that is a fantasy made by one of the 7 wonders and it's just so crazy how they have to escape. This was a really great volume to read. :)
Wow, Aidalro really doesn't pull any punches. Instead, they punch me in the gut multiple times per volume, since clearly once isn't enough.
While I loved the gut punch this volume gave, something that's bothering me is the antagonists' motivations. Yes, we know what they're doing and how they're doing it, but readers still don't have a clear answer as to why. While I ordinarily love a slow build up to a dramatic reveal, we're nine volumes into this series and we still don't have any idea what the motivations behind this group are.
That being said, the volume itself was super fucking creepy, atmospheric, and emotional and I loved it. I'm curious to learn more about Mystery #4 as well as how Kou and Nene plan to get out of their predicament. Still a phenomenal horror series that never fails to entertain me.
Which is better - to live in a world you know is fantasy but fulfills your wishes, or to end the fantasy by your own hand and return to an imperfect reality?
I don't know that the series is meant to be that deep, but I can really relate to the question it poses.
"In a world without life and death, people who don’t know when to give up are unstoppable."
We get to delve deeper into Hanako's past story, about his high-school self. Hanako's past was quite depressing-disturbing, more precisely. We get to sympathize with him due to this.
In the end, it was cute and fluffy~ (*^-^*) We get to see some more of kawaii HanakoxNene moments. :>
This volume was everything and more! One of my favourite volumes so far!! I really didn’t expect this type of story as we weren’t given an indication that things were going to take these turn of events but I loved every single page!!
We are following a completely different story in this volume and certain characters are not the same - essentially Nene and Kou find themselves in a fake world, borne from one of the school mysteries (no. 4) imagination and artistic ability, where Hanako is his human and living self and is known as Yugi Amane and Mitsuba is also his living human self too!
The ending is also nail biting as we learn in order for Nene and Kou to return to their normal world (where both Hanako-kun and Mitsuba are dead), they need to kill Amane and Mitsuba’s living selves in this fake world! And then Tsukasa shows up! Eeek!
Excellent stuff!

General Comments: Toilet-bound Hanako-kin is translated by Square Enix and Co; story by Iro and illustrated by Aida. This is Volume 9. Reviewing Manga is complicated; reviewing each volume - individually- does not reflect the overall enjoyment of the series. As such, the star-rating should be utilised as a guideline only. If anything, you should pick up Toilet-bound Hanako-kun. The intent of this work is to recall Japanese Tales from Folklore and Mythology, using the contrasting genres of horror and comedy. See Volume 1 for a more personal review.

I WANT HIM TO HAVE A HAPPY HUMAN LIFE WITH FRIENDS WHO LOVE HIM
😭🔫 😭🔫 😭🔫 😭🔫
This volume is a special kind of torture. It’s everything I wish and dream for Amane and Nene and Kou and Mitsuba…but all ruined because it’s not real. It’s a “perfect” world crafted by one of the school mysteries. It’s CRUELTY.
Seeing Amane being happy…so joyful to see Nene…and ASK HER OUT…I’m a mess on the floor. I’m ruined. I’ll never know peace again. I only know sorrow.
This volume is just truly a stab to the heart. It’s so unexpected! And the twist of how Kou and Nene can get out of this perfect world? Why not just shoot me instead? 😭
Anyway. So this volume was wonderful. I wish Nene and Kou had no idea this world was fake and everyone could just live happily ever after but WHATEVER. WE MUST SUFFER ON.
***SPOILERS!!!*** Gah! This book made me feel ALL THE FEELS! I love a good what-if. And this book, giving us a glimpse of what could have been... and then saying the only way to get back to reality is to literally KILL two of your friends (fake or not!), and then for that cliffhanger with Tsukasa seemingly pulling all the strings... and... GAH! I need the next volume!!!!

This arc is SO MESSED UP but I LOVE IT! It’s just…damn. Pulls at your heartstrings with all the “what ifs” in a way similar to how some manga have “school AUs” because you want to see the characters exits and vibe in a happy way. But of course this series can’t let happiness exist for too long. The next volume is going to crush me.
