A supernatural, urban fantasy sure to get your blood running hot, Ignite the Flame is the first book in the Sectorium series set in a sleepy coastal town along the Oregon Coast. Previously published as Whisper Cape and has been re-titled an enhanced for a more enjoyable read.
Susan Griscom, writes paranormal and contemporary romance. She's hooked on gritty romances and is a huge fan of superheroes and bad boys confronted with extraordinary forces of nature, powers, and abilities beyond the norm mixed with steamy romance, of course.
She loves those days when she gets to sit around in her sweat pants, doing nothing but writing emotionally charged stories about love and violence and drinking coffee.
She lives in Northern California with her romantic husband and together they have five great superhero kids and eight mini-superhero grand kids, so far.
New title for this book and series. Ignite the Flame, the Sectorium Series book 1

Another little teaser ...
“Grab your jacket.” He wrapped his arm around her, pulled her in close, cupped her chin in his hand, and tilted her head up toward his, their lips inches apart. “Do you trust me?” His voice was husky, his breath warm and her knees were about to turn to jelly.
“Yes, I think so. Do I have a choice?”
“No. Close your eyes,” he whispered.
She did as he requested as a weird sensation of air swept through every pore, every cell of her body.
The first book is a good start to a new series. Like most first books, it starts with a slow beginning but quickly picks up.
After her father dies mysteriously, Addie, a 26 year old, begins to have nightmares every night. She has a hard time figuring out what they mean and ties them into the strange note her father had left for her. Moving to Oregon where her father and aunt grew up she works in the restaurant Whisper Cape where she is introduced into the paranormal world. Suddenly Addie discovers a hidden talent she never knew she had. With her telekinetic abilities she can control electrical devices.
Cael is on a quest to find a powerful crystal and is associated with a sacred book. He has supernatural skills of his own (teleportation).
When Cael shows up, Addie thinks she has run him over with her truck and is surprised to see him all over town. Once she approaches him and they start talking, they are immediately attracted to one another. When women who look like Addie start showing up dead, Cael feels he must protect her. This gives their romance a chance to heat up.
Throughout the pages, we are introduced to new characters, a secret society with shape shifters among other being. The story has a mixture of romance, lots of sex and action with supernatural/paranormal twists and turns that will keep you guessing as to who the villain really is. The author gives lots of details with vivid descriptions that drew me into the story, making me feel as if I was there with the characters. The story is well plotted and everything is tied together in the end and leaves you knowing exactly what has happened. A great stand-alone story, I am looking forward to reading the second book in the series to see how the author continues the storyline.
Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION'S Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson:
I was contacted by a troupe that I work with to do a promotional Event for Regan Walsh in July. I had never heard of her before, nor had I heard about Whisper Cape. Trying to be the good book website admin and book promoter, I went out and bought the book on Amazon and when a gap opened in my schedule, decided to sit down and read it. I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN!
In my honest opinion, this was one of the best new Urban Fantasy books I have read in the last year or so, and I've been doing A LOT of reading for review. I don't know if it just caught me in the right mood for this type of read or what (since I'm seeing a bit of mixed feelings from reviewers), but I personally thought it was fantastic and immediately recommended it to all 1,700+ of my Literal Addicts. :)
The premise is fresh, the characters relatable, the plot intense, the romance steamy... what more could you want?
Cael, the hunky hero of our story (and yes, I'm not afraid to admit I have a serious reader crush on Cael!), returns to Whisper Cape on a job for the secret society he's employed to. Upon his arrival, he runs into our fiesty heroine Addie and nothing is ever the same.
Addie has just returned to Whisper Cape after losing her father, and is living out a comfortable yet slightly boring life with her aunt and pseudo-uncle (her aunt's live-in boyfriend).
The dynamics between Cael and Addie throughout the story will have you laughing, on the verge of tears, frustrated, elated, and a plethora of other emotions in-between.
The plot is intense, mysterious, dark where it needs to be, light in others and thoroughly engrossing.
Believe me, if you're a paranormal suspense lover like I am and think you are the best at figuring out 'whodoneit'... you're probably going to be wrong in this one. I thought I had it figured out at least twice and upon completion of the book, still went "huh". :)
After flipping the last page I was elated that I had found such an amazing read, but saddened that I thought it was a single title and there would be no more. I was VERY happy today to find that there IS another WHISPER CAPE book planned for November, called "Reflections", and it will immediately go on my Pre-Order list.
LITERAL ADDICTION gives Whisper Cape a well earned 5 Skulls and would recommend it to all Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Suspense, and even Romantic Suspense lovers.
Cael Sheridan shows up in Whisper Cape as a Private Investigator, to find who is murdering the women in Whisper Cape, however in reality he was sent from the Sectorium to find Eidolon, who he believes is responsible for the murders around town along with the murder of Risteard MacKenna, Addison's father.
Addison keeps running into Cael, she's immediately attracted to him but feels he's a bit on the arrogant side. Soon after meeting Cael, Addison finds out that her father lived a whole other life that she knew nothing about. Cael knew her father and was able to fill Addison in on his secrets including his powers, and the crystal and ancient journal he left behind.
Addison had learned she had some abilities but with Cael's help she learned so much more. He helped her train so that she was able to protect herself against Eidolon.
While training, Addison and Cael are falling for each other fast. And neither one wants to admit it for fear the feeling isn't mutual. The passion and heat between the two is definitely blush-worthy. Cael makes Addison feel sexy and more alive, she's never felt the way she does with anyone before.
While training and figuring their relationship out through LOTS of passionate sex, Eidolon is on their trail and still on his murdering spree.
Eidolon is now threatening everyone close to Addison unless she gives up the crystal and ancient journal. It's time her and Cael face Eidolon head on, however Addison's not sure she's had enough training to defeat him and she knows Cael can't do it alone.
I loved WhisperCape, the description given by Susan Griscom was captivating. She kept you hanging onto every word. I could read this over again. I don't read a lot of adult books or erotic books but Whisper Cape was that Amazing! I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a good read with a little spice.
What a fantastic read! The setting is Whisper Cape, Oregon. The visualizations and scenery the author painted was a combination of beautiful and eerie. I was floored at how I escaped to this creepy seaside town. It was so vivid that I envisioned myself standing along the seaside cliffs, an eerie fog rolling in, looking down at the ocean waves crashing on the rocks. At times, you felt what the character was feeling.
After the mysterious death of her father, our heroine, Addie is having nightmares. Someone, or something, is chasing her. Enter our swoon-worthy hero, Cael. While driving home, Addie almost runs into Cael. Almost. She pulls over, then realizes that that there wasn't anything or anyone around. Was she imagining things? Where did he go? Things are just getting stranger and stranger. Wait, were those sparks coming out of her fingers? Addie is coming into age and with it, come certain powers. Cael doesn't realize it immediately, but he was sent to protect Addie from the creature from her nightmares.
The story takes a lot of twists and turns and the ending left me surprised. I honestly didn't see it coming. I thought it was something, but it turned out to be something else. Combine the action, the love, the sexy hero, the vivid imagery, I loved it all! Definitely recommend :)
I really enjoyed this book and loved Cael and Addison. I didn't want to put this book down once I started it. I won my copy in a competition run by Anna Dase on her blog and had not heard of the author before this. It is definetly for older readers as there are sex scenes in the book which makes it unsuitable for younger readers but it had great characters a good plot and was quite fastpaced. There were a couple of twists throughout it and at the end as well. I would definetly pick up another of this author's books. I would recommend it to anyone who likes a good paranormal romance, her writing and stories are in line with the likes of Keri Arthur, so if you like Keri Arthur you'll love Regan Walsh as well!
**** Edit**** I have now had the pleasure of experiencing the book on Audio a well. It was my first time listening to an audiobook but I really enjoyed how the narrator told the story. Her voice was soothing and pleasant to listen to! It certainly made my journey to and from work pass quicker!
Addison MacKenna is having devastating nightmares, and not just a few. She suspects the reason might have something to do with her late father's death, but has no other evidence that she possesses any other specific cause. From the opening scene describing Addie's reaction to her most recent nightmare, "Hot and tingly blood pulsed through her body... [and] a force strengthened and burned as though her veins were on fire," WHISPER CAPE'S readers are treated to hints that she is more than just your average waitress. Just moments later, tiny sparks shoot from her fingertips. A shaken Addie doesn't have a clue why.
Thus begins a series of events with questions she struggles to answer. Enter luscious hero Cael Sheridan and we are treated to more clues about his peculiarities. He can teleport, for example. And disappear. (And judging by Walsh's description of this sexy beast, we definitely don't want him to disappear.)
As with any fine romance, their relationship suffers from the start, with each keeping secrets from the other. Addie's telekinetic powers grow as Cael follows his quest to find a powerful crystal and associated sacred book. Together they are bound to solve an ages old mystery and fight an evil that threatens their very existence. While saving the world as we know it with supernatural powers isn't exactly a new idea, Walsh puts a wonderful spin on these already charming characters by mixing in a healthy dose of human traits. Cael may have the soul and powers of an ancient warrior, but he puts on his tight, sexy jeans one leg at a time and succumbs to Addie's allure and vulnerability just like the next dumb guy in love. Addie, for all her strength and determination, tiptoes into her new powerful role while trying not to fall for the seemingly mercurial Cael. Their banter, tirades and playful sexuality endear them to the reader; you will find yourself teleporting with them as they travel the world in pursuit of the monster they seek to destroy.
Another of WHISPER CAPE'S strength lies in its secondary characters. Walsh doesn't scrimp on developing Maia and Gerry--there is a good reason these two play an important role in Addie and Cael's lives. (See my interview with Regan Walsh for more about that! BeaconStreetBooks.com)
Of course, I'm hinting at Regan's next book, REFLECTIONS, due out later this year. I, for one, can't wait! The cover alone has me salivating.
review to come later all I will say now u wanna be cold when you read this cuz it gonna make you HOT
Whisper Cape This fantastic debut novel by Regan Walsh is hard almost impossible to put down. So when you pick it up make sure you have time to read cause you are not gonna wanna put it down. The characters she has created are ah~may~zing and you can relate to them even the ones with the supernatural powers. This story can and will take you on a sensual and yet suspenseful ride of your life. Addison the main character has to learn to trust Cael ( UM just Yummy) (ladies when you read this book you are gonna wish you had a Cael of your own) who is out to protect her from the thing that has killed her father and wants to kill her but not before he gets what he wants from her a journel and a crystal. When the journal and crystal are seperate they are harmless but together they are powerful.
Addison struggles with nightmares every night since her father has passed and is determined to figure out the truth behind his death. On her way to finding the truth she meets the mysterious Cael and soon discoveries that she has special abilities that was passed down to her by her dad who at one time was in charge of a secret society that Addie had no clue existed until she met Cael. Now the fate of everyone is in Addie's and Cael's hands they have to kill Eidolon (one might say demon) that has killed Addie's father and out to kill her. Eidolon wants the journel and crystal so that he can become all powerful and destory everything that will not obey him. Sorry guys I do not give any real spoilers I want you to read it and find all the delicious and juicy details on your own and believe me this book will delivery some delicious scene that will make your temperature run hot .
I give this book 5/5 stars this book was simply FANTASTIC and if you have not read it yet put it at the top of your TBR Pile you will not be disappointed. Regan has created a setting that is beautiful and characters that could actually be your next door neighbor.
* I was given a free copy of this book for review purposes. The review is based solely on my opinion and was not influenced by author or publisher.
After her father suddenly dies, Addison MacKenna moves back to the town of Whisper Cape, Oregon where she was born. Along for the move is Addison's Aunt Maia, who helped raise her from infancy because Addison's mother died shortly after giving birth. With the exception of the nightmares life seems to be moving forward for Addison, that is until a stranger appears in town. With the appearance of the stranger comes changes in Addison and the knowledge that her father wasn't at all what he seemed. Secrets and powers arise which could cost Addison her life and the lives of those she loves.
After reading the synopsis of this book, I jumped at the chance to read and review it. I was a bit disappointed as I had a very hard time getting through it. The idea behind the story was intriguing but the execution was missing something. I was not able to connect with the characters. Most of the main characters were in their mid 20's to late 30's but their dialogue and interactions with each other appeared to be more juvenile. There are sex scenes and while they are not juvenile they seem immature and even awkward at times. There is a great deal of anticipation and buildup to the battle with the "big bad", but the actual altercation is swift and unsatisfying.
On the positive side, the Sectorium and it's members is a great concept. The powers that the members possess, how they come into those powers and how they manifest are all fascinating ideas. With a little more character growth and balancing of buildup to resolution I think the author could have a worthy series on her hands.
I really enjoyed this story! It kept me on the edge of my seat not knowing what was going to happen next. The author did an excellent job of grabbing my attention and keeping it. She was able to develop characters that were relatable.
Addison is haunted by nightmares since her dad was murdered. Addison and her aunt moved from New York to Whisper Cape on Oregon's coast to start a new life and hopefully put the nightmares behind them. She accidentally meets Cael who is hunting the man who murdered her father. They are instantly attracted to each other and together they will unlock secrets from their pasts. They will work together to catch her father's killer.
I highly recommend this book! I will be looking forward to the next installment!
I loved Whisper Cape. It was different for one. I'm totally thinking about kidnapping Cael and hiding him in my closet. I'm sure I can convince him to stay.
Whisper Cape had the perfect amount of suspense mixed with romance. I fell into the story easily and dreaded the inevitable ending. It had me flipping pages until way past my bed time.
All the characters were believable which made the story solid and hard to put down. 5 stars from me! Highly recommended!
I really enjoyed this book. A paranormal romance with a different take on the paranormals. Addison and Cael were a great couple, and I certainly found myself rooting for them to be together. Also, I enjoyed that the story had a lot of twists and turns. Great paranoromal romance read!
Whisper Cape is billed as a Sensual Paranormal Romance. Sounds very interesting. And it is.
The story concerns Addison “Addie” MacKenna. Growing up as a normal child there was nothing unusual about her. But after the recent death of her father she began to have nightmares. Every night. The nightmares seemed to be trying to tell her something, but she couldn't figure them out. The only concrete thing she had of her father was a single note he had written shortly before he died. It said simply, “Addison will come of age soon. Then she will inherit the powers.”
The town Addie lived in, Whisper Cape, was fairly quiet. Until a series of gruesome killings. And the women killed all bear a striking resemblance to Addie. The police attributed them to either a bear or a mountain lion. But Addie wasn't so sure. Local legend said there was a supernatural maniac around; he had always been there, and killed people on the cliffs overlooking the ocean. It was claimed if you went to the cliffs at night you could hear the voices of the dead. Hence, “Whisper Cape.”
One morning, driving to work, Addie hits a man crossing the road. Concerned, she pulls her truck over and investigates. There was nobody to be found. She was sure she had killed him, because it was a very hard impact. But no injured man. But she had caught a glimpse of his face just before she hit him, and she would never forget that face.
Then the stranger started to show up in her life. The bar she worked at. The beach. The cliffs. He was always there. She had to get to know him. And she had started to see some unusual things happening. She could turn the TV on just by thinking about it. In fact, she could control any electrical device just by thinking abut it. She could toast bread by thinking about it. Were these the “powers” her father referred to in his final note?
The stranger she thought she had killed, but kept showing up, was Cael. She approached him, and did get to know him. About all he would say he was in town “on business.” But Addie knew there was something more there. So she dug. As it turned out Cael had some of his own special powers. Far beyond what Addie could do. And Cael knew her father. They were members of a secret society of people who had special powers. The secret society had two unique “keys.” One was a manuscript, the other a locket. Anyone who possessed both would have unlimited powers, and could rule the earth. And, Addie had both of them.
Cael eventually tells Addie what “business” he is on. Eidolon, another member of the secret society, suspects Addie has the two keys. He has been killing the women who look like Addie. And he will kill her, and Cael, to get the keys. Cael is her protection, her bodyguard. That's why he keeps showing up. Eidolon is a shape shifter, and he is very good at it. That is, he can appear as any person or animal he wants. Addie and Cael are never really sure who, or what, Eidolon is. But Cael is not only Addie's protector. He is also her teacher. He needs Addie to expand and perfect her powers, so together they can defeat Eidolon. And Addie and Cael have fallen in love.
So the book describes two lovers who both have special abilities, and their mission is to find the shape shifter and destroy him. Walsh takes us on an enjoyable, and incredible, journey as the two try to find Eidolon, to save their own lives. Some scenes are intense, but well written. And Eidolon is not who you think he is. You will be shocked when Walsh finally reveals his real identity.
Although Whisper Cape is sold as a romance, it is more a mystery. Fans of romance novels will enjoy the book, because there is plenty of romance in it. Fans of mystery will enjoy the unexpected twists and turns in the story. There is nothing not to like about Whisper Cape. The book is well written, and character and plot development are solid. The book will keep you on the edge of your seat during the scary parts, and you will relax and sink back into your chair during the romantic parts. Regan Walsh intertwines the two themes perfectly. Highly recommended.
I thought this book was well written from the very first page. I liked Addie right away, and I found myself really wanting to live in the town of Whisper Cape. Her nightmares were vivid and frightening, and left me feeling the same shock when she woke up as I do when I’ve had a nightmare of my own. I love an honest main character, and Addie was a very genuinely good person who had a lot of bad things happen to her, but still held herself to a standard. I was impressed with how she wrestled with the guilt and fear that she may have killed a man.
Speaking of that man, Cael… oh my goodness! He has become a bona fide book crush for me! His arrogance normally would be a complete put off, but it worked for him. The instant connection he felt with Addie tugged at my heart strings, it was almost literally love at first sight, although neither of them wanted to admit it. I love when I’m reading a book and know both character’s thoughts and I’m screaming inside for them to tell each other! As a stubborn woman myself, I identify with characters that keep themselves stuck in angst when a simple conversation can clear it up. These two characters were so real and wonderful, and the abilities they possessed just added to the chemistry; especially when they realized just how strong they were together.
The supporting characters were also wonderful. Maia, Addie’s aunt, and her boyfriend Gerry were excellently written. Each could easily have a story of their own! Her friends Darcy and Jared also have an excellent sub story going on that had my complete interest. Cael’s mother was intriguing, and I’d love to learn more about her!
The “bad guy” in this book was terrifying. Not in appearance, but probably because of his lack of appearance. I was questioning every character in the book in my mind, wondering who Eidolin could be. The way he used other people to do his bidding left him free to stay safely on the sidelines with little risk to himself. The psychological terror he inflicted on everyone matched the physical violence he was conducting. The final reveal of who Eidolin was completely surprised me, and I was horror-stricken! That is all I want to say about the main plot of the story…any more elaboration from me risks a potential spoiler (and I HATE those)!
I’ve started reading book two, Reflections, but I really had to stop and write this review before the dividing line between books became blurred for me. This is a series that is seamless, yet, I think someone reading book two as a stand alone could still enjoy it and have enough information to understand the dynamics of the relationships and abilities.
Addison, or Addie for short, is a great heroine that I loved from the minute I started reading. The poor girl is haunted by nightmares after her father's violent death. Instead of normal recurring nightmares, she is experiencing progressive dreams that change each night and go further into the nightmare like a bad movie. She is even more rattled when she almost hits a man in the middle of the road. When she starts experiencing some freaky abilities she is not sure who she should trust to tell her secret. That plan falls apart when the mysterious man she almost hit tells her he knows and has seen what she has done. She soon realizes that her someone else knows about her abilities and is out to get her and something that her father had under his protection. She must put her trust in her growing powers and the man she loves in order to defeat this nightmare.
Cael. By the end of the book, I was utterly in love with the man myself. He was a great hero for the book and added a lot to the story. Sexy and mysterious, he made me want to find him and pin him down to a bed and have my way with him. You know what I really loved about his character? There were parts of the story that had a high emotional level and we were shown a man that wasn't afraid to shed a tear or two. I honestly don't think I have read too many stories where the hero actually cried. And it didn't make him a pansy either. I think that was the point in the story that I wished Cael was real and him to be all mine. We also see him struggle with the fact that even though he thinks it is a distraction that could work against him, he falls utterly in love with Addie quickly and completely. He knows that Addie is a strong, sexy woman who can hold her own but he can't help the protective instincts that come out in him whenever they are confronted with danger. He also struggles with the fact that she is the daughter of the man who mentored him and was like a father to him. But everything seems to throw Addie and Cael together. Fate has brought them together but they have to believe in their love to make everything work out in the end.
I unfortunately couldn't read this fast enough because real life got in the way but let me tell you, if I could have avoided things like taking care of kids, laundry, and dishes, I would have probably read this book in less than 24 hours. Beware Regan, you have a new stalker! Hehe...
Addie is 26 yrs old when her father Professor Mackenna dies. Adidie’s Aunt Maia decides to move back to Oregon and the small town Addie’s father and she grew up in. There Addie works at the only decent restaurant in Whisper Cape and makes friends with the owner – Gerry, Cook – Jared, waitress – Darcy (aka - double D), and Bartender - Nick.
From the very beginning the recurring dream gets you into the story. Then things start to happen, she discovers her hidden talent….very cool. A new guy moves in and she is automatic attracted to him and Cael to her. When females are found dead with a very similar resembles to Addie, Cael decides to keep her close and things start to heat up. He discovers her hidden talent and tries to help her strengthen it.
Loved the story, a great way to start the series! I can’t wait for the Reflections the next book in the series, will definitely be reading it and on have placed it on my list for upcoming books which according to goodreads will be out in November of 2012. I couldn’t get enough of Cael what a guy! I was a little disappointed on the way the bad guy was finished off but the rest of the story was great.
Thanks to author Regan Walsh and to the Group Making Connections for the opportunity to read this great story.
This is really a good story and a great foundation for a new series. It is a murder mystery with paranormal elements. Addie MacKenna is grieving after losing her father under mysterious circumstances. She and her aunt move to Whisper Cape where her aunt and father grew up. There is a serial murder on the loose and all the victims have a remarkable resemblance to Addie. Enter Cael Sheridan, a warrior and protector with supernatural skills. He introduces Addie to her own skills, a past she never knew and a new world.
The pacing of the story could have been a little tighter, but things did move at a good clip. It was more thriller than romance but both aspects got their place in the spotlight. The characters were well defined and interesting enough that you wanted to know what was going on with them and they were welcome when it was their turn to be front and center. Their interaction with each other was great. It was refreshing to watch Addie & Cael’s relationship grow. Another strong area of this book was the false trails to the identity of the villain. I thought the search for Eidolon went on a little long and it affected my interest in the story. There was a jolting shift in writing style within the last 20% of the story – it could have been for effect. It wasn’t bad, just different.
The final area for kudos is that this is a strong debut from a writer we will probably hear a lot about in the future. I would definitely be interested in reading another installment in this series.
I sometimes have trouble getting into romance novels, but I love fantasy and paranormal suspense. In Whisper Cape, Regan Walsh combines the two genres in a way that held my interest all the way through. Though the lovers, Addie and Cael, are predictably attractive and gifted with amazing powers, they have quirks and flaws that make them human and likable. The sex scenes are wonderful, never crude or coy. Once or twice they stall the action more than I would like, but I'm guessing many readers will enjoy the delays. In any case, Cael and Addie's romance is important to the plot. Their love becomes both a weakness and their greatest strength as they confront the evil Eidolon.
I love the paranormal aspect of the novel and the backstory of Addie's and Cael's families. Walsh gives enough detail to explain what's going on, arouse readers' curiosity, and set the stage for the next book in the series. The plot unfolds at an effective pace, and the tension keeps building right up to the end. The climactic confrontation with Eidolon disappointed me a little. After the build up, I was expecting more of a battle.
The minor characters in Whisper Cape are well-drawn. I was never bored by Darcy or Jared or any of the patrons of the Cliff Hanger, the restaurant where Addie works. The novel also has a vivid sense of place, especially Whisper Cape where most of the action unfolds. Walsh does excellent work in creating an unmagical world that makes the magic all the more exciting and credible. I look forward to her next novel.
Here is one of those books where the cover can be deceiving. When I first got this book I really didn't look much further that the cover and that it was in my genre of reading. Where I thought I would be reading a bit of mystery/romance, I got much more. Whisper Cape is a dark, edgy, suspenseful read that is captivating from page one. With so many twists and turns within a story, you are compelled to continue to find out more secrets hidden within this town. Nobody is who they say they are and everyone has a secret past. The characters in this story are creatively written and have questionable personalities. You never know who is for real and who you can trust. Within this story is a female who has been raised by her aunt after he mother died. Her father, someone who traveled a lot growing up, was always a beacon of light for Addie. When he died, there were so many unanswered questions that left Addie feeling like it was no accident. When Addie and her aunt Maia move back to Whisper Cape, where she was born, mysterious things start to happen. It all begins with Cael. The stranger whom she almost kills with her car, brings feeling out of her that she wants to resist. Not only does Cael make her question everything she's feeling but also becomes her savior. Cael is the one person who can help her with the mystery of her father's death but also the suspicious deaths of women in her town. Enjoy this fast pace action/mystery/romantic story who need each other more than they realize.
This was a very good story. A friend suggested this book to me and I wasn't disappointed. In a town where it's possible to hear the dead whisper and where everyone basically knows everyone there are many secrets that are about to be revealed. Addie is sure her father's death wasn't an accident but, murder. No one wants to believe he was murdered, how can she make them understand what she can't herself. Every night she has the same recurring nightmare that steals her breath away. Will she ever understand what they really mean. Cael is a private investigator who is arrogant and mysterious and has a hard time staying away from Addie. He is chasing evil but, he doesn't know what the evil looks like. As much as he doesn't want it, he needs Addie's help to protect the world. Cael hasn't told anyone about his powers and Addie is just coming into hers. As fate throws them together they must find a way to combine their powers to destroy the evil that is after her before it destroys the world. They must find the ancient pendant and a book that has many secrets of healing and dangerous powers the her father had the responsibility of protecting. These ancient objects are harmless as long as they stay separated but, together the results could be deadly. Can Addie and Cael destroy the evil before it's too late, or will they die trying to protect the world from it?
I picked this book up because I'm a huge fan of romantic suspense. The fact that it had a paranormal element didn't hurt either. After reading the first page, I knew Whisper Cape would be a winner. The story opens with Addie waking up from a recurring nightmare. My mind instantly filled with questions that needed answers. From Addie's first disastrous encounter with Cael, I was hooked. I liked the hero and the heroine from the start and enjoyed their growing attraction to each other. Their sexual tension was off the charts despite how much Cael fought against it. I enjoyed the cast of secondary characters, and I hope we'll be seeing more of Darcy and Jared!
The suspense line was also very entertaining and served to introduce us to the world of the Sectorium, where people have wonderfully different powers. Cael's mission to find Eidolon (a member of the Sectorium gone rogue) leads him to Whisper Cape where there have been a string of murders of women. As Cael digs deeper into the mystery, he discovers who Addie really is, and who is killing the women.
The romance and the suspense storylines were masterfully intertwined, keeping the tension up and my attention on high alert the entire length of the book. This was a great read and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good suspense and a riveting romance, in a fabulous paranormal world of "super" humans. I'm looking forward to reading Reflections, book 2 in the Whisper Cape series!
If you are a reader who thrives on paranormal, romantic adventures, then a visit to Whisper Cape is an absolute must. It begins with recurring nightmares connected with a horrific event.
Whisper Cape is not only a quaint little town in the Pacific Northwest, it's the tale of two unique people and situations by no means ordinary. When the two primary characters, Addison and Cael, meet for the first several times, the sparks are already beginning to fly, and I don't mean just between them sexually, because they do! You have to read the novel, simply because I never read and tell!
Without giving away any spoilers and to further whet your appetites, there ARE sparks, for real. There are also fires, magic, and mayham enough to keep a reader guessing who the evil doer is until the end. The scenes are written so splendidly smooth by Ms. Griscom, this reader couldn't abandon the book to complete her own project! Take it from me, luring me into a book is no easy thing for anyone to do, because I'm a workaholic, but Susan managed to do so!
Congrats on that, Susan!
Praise and thank you's to Susan Griscom for creating such a wonderful world to visit, with compelling characters, plot, and circumstances I've not had the pleasure to ever imagine before! I can't wait to read the sequel!
I have to start out by saying, I LOVE THIS BOOK!! Whisper Cape is so astonishing with characters that are lovable and well developed. I can't brag enough about author Susan Griscom. This book grabbed my attention from the moment I picked it up and I just couldn't put it down. If you are a fan of paranormal romance, you have to read this book!
Addison MacKenna moves back to Whisper Cape after her father dies. She has continued nightmares of his death and has a gut feeling he has been murdered. Worry ensues her when she fears she may have accidentally ran a man over and killed him. Sudden abilities and strange occurrences leave her searching for answers.
Cael Sheridan *sigh* is an angry and sometimes arrogant private investigator. He has been sent to find the daughter of his murdered mentor. Meeting Addison proves to be challenging for him. He is torn between keeping his distance in order to protect her from the evil that hunts her or seducing her. One of my favorite quotes, "He wanted to make love to her right there, but his sudden desire to protect her took over." I love this man!
Watching the story unfold with the added chemistry between Addison and Cael kept me begging for more. Cael is everything you could ever want in a man. Handsome, strong ,protective, sexy...shall I go on? Check Whisper Cape out, you will not be disappointed!
First of all I need to say that this book is AMAZING!!! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and hope that Regan Walsh writes more novels based on these characters.
In short this novel is about a young women called Addie, who discovers that she has the ability to shoot sparks from her hands. She is driving to work one day when she nearly runs over a man who disappears as soon as she stops the car. Over time, it becomes clear that he also has special powers and they start to grow close. However, there is something sinister lurking out in the wilderness that is killing women who look similar to Addie, that is hunting for something and won't stop killing until it gets what it is searching for or is killed.
This book is fast paced without feeling rushed with a plot that keeps the reader enthralled. There is the right combination of adventure, mystery, crime and romance to keep the reader hooked and guessing right until the very end and I must admit that I didn't guess who the killer was, and I usually do.
Overall I thought this book was brilliant and I look forward to reading more from Regan Walsh in the future.
I love finding new authors, and Ms. Walsh does not disappoint. Whisper Cape is a great start to a new series, and follows Addie as she discovers things about her life, and herself, that she couldn't have possibly imagined. The romance between herself and Cael is, in some respects, a typical story, but the secrets they hold ensure that this is one relationship that has even higher highs, and more dramatic lows.
Initially, the story just clips along, introducing us to all the characters involved, and giving us a sense of who they are. However, it rapidly gains momentum and the reader is thrust into a hidden paranormal underbelly, giving just enough information to allow you to see what direction they are heading in, while keeping enough back that the final few chapters come as a huge surprise.
I am looking forward to reading more from this author and seeing what happens next, for both the characters and the Sectorium.
Whisper Cape, what an entertaining ride. The storyline grabs you from chapter one. The storyline revolves around Addison, a young woman who's dad was recently killed by a wild animal, but Addie's gut tells her that isn't the case. All of a sudden Addie's fingers are letting out an electrical current, pretty cool. Then a stranger comes to town, Cael. He's tall, mysterious and sexy as all hell. Cael & Addie have never met, but they both have her dad in common. The sexual chemistry between these two characters is great from the get go. Eventually Cael confesses his relationship with her dad and the mysterious past her dad led, a secret life in order to protect her. The story moves along very quickly, but never disappointing, or leaving you hanging. I truly enjoyed this book very much & would recommend to everyone who enjoys love, romance, action, mystery, super powers, paranormal. You will get a little of it all. Great job!
Whisper Cape is the first book I’ve read by Regan Walsh. The description quickly drew me in and I was very anxious to read this book. I was worried that like some other books the description gives away too much or the book turns out to be nothing like it. I was pleasantly surprised when the books turns out extremely better than the description. This book was very hard to put down. Regan Walsh writes with great passion and detail that you can’t help but get caught up in the story. She has a great way of developing not only the main characters but others as well. I hope the book leads to a series, but this book definitely is a great stand alone book. I highly recommend the book and give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Whisper Cape is the first book I've read by Susan and I can guarantee that it will not be the last.
When I started reading, I wondered what was going on and quickly became engrossed into the whole story. From Addison's nightmares to the wierd creepy feeling of being followed to the steamy scenes with Cael, I never shied away from the book.
Susan did an amazing job on creating an addictive series that leaves you needing the next install ASAP and does not disappoint whatsoever!
2.5⭐ After DNF ing 4 books in a row, I was getting scared to start a new one. I thought this one - being another kindle freebie - was gonna be the one that sent me to a certain and irrecoverable reading slump. It didn't and that's the only reason it's getting 2 stars and not one.
Up until 25ish% it was a decent light story, not good, not bad.
And then, the editor must have quit because it became so bad that I laughed hard!!! The writing is childish so everything was presented to us with the same tone as Sesame Street. I could give you a gazillion examples, but for that I would edit the whole book and I'm not in the mood. The idea of the plot was cool, but everything was sooooo ridiculous!!!
I still finished, but to do so I had to try to read this imagining I was one of my 10 year-old nieces.
Also: - Third person POV; - Almost fade to black smexy.
