Breena Cassidy Cursed with what could be one of the worst supernatural abilities imaginable, Breena has never had the luxury of falling in love. Hell, she’s never even held a guy’s hand. At only twenty-two years old, she’s just about given up on the whole love thing. After all, when you can see twelve hours of someone’s future by a simple touch, and they, in turn, can see what you see, well… relationships are sort of out of the question. Her gigs performing psychic readings at parties, and the occasional one-on-one private appointment are just about Breena’s only connection with people. No matter how much she might wish otherwise.
Hawk Covington Hawk’s hard body and skill have earned him a starting position on the Pioneer’s college hockey team. But it’s not his talent with a hockey stick that’s the most remarkable. His gorgeous two-colored eyes not only draw the attention of every female on campus, they also allow him to track people and objects. But when he suddenly finds himself stalked by a stranger, he seeks out the help of the rumored, “campus gypsy” for help.
Despite his vow to stay single and play as many college women as he can while the fun lasts, Hawk can’t ignore his attraction to the lovely and spirited Breena. And she can’t get the hunky star hockey player out of her mind once a single touch of his hand reveals something utterly strange. Surrounded by mystery, they realize that fate has brought them together for a reason, but can they stay alive long enough to recognize the depth of their feelings for one another?
Susan Griscom, writes paranormal and contemporary romance. She's hooked on gritty romances and is a huge fan of superheroes and bad boys confronted with extraordinary forces of nature, powers, and abilities beyond the norm mixed with steamy romance, of course.
She loves those days when she gets to sit around in her sweat pants, doing nothing but writing emotionally charged stories about love and violence and drinking coffee.
She lives in Northern California with her romantic husband and together they have five great superhero kids and eight mini-superhero grand kids, so far.
And here's another amazing gift from A Helpful Elf, I can't wait! Thank you!! :)
*Edit*
2.5 stars. I was totally lured in by the hot guy on the cover, all those sexy curls. *sigh* The excellent reviews hooked me too, so maybe this is case of "it's not you, it's me" but this just didn't do it for me.
It's not a terrible book, the blurb sounds amazing. But everything about it just felt...flat. The writing, the characters, the plot. I got no chemistry from the MCs, even the parts that should have been tense and exciting left me cold *that included the sex* and the dialog felt awkward.
Nevertheless, I do appreciate A Helpful Elf's sweetness for the gift, so thank you again for thinking of me!!! xx
ah boy manwhore/virgin alert.... good thing the story seems to be original or this would be a DNF.
DNF 60 percent. Lost me when as they are having sex for the first time suddenly they are a "race" to explain no need for condoms.. 60 percent into the book and we find out they are a whole different race?!?! Really, I mean it would have been cool if it wasn't an obvious the H stuck his dick in everything so let's come up with something so the h knows she won't get an STD... Interesting idea but it fell way way short. plot holes, scenes like the H explaining his best friend needs a ride because he is drunk and stuck at a bar with chicks he has been trying to bang but two pages later the story turned into he had a fight with his girlfriend and was just hanging out with hussies. This was also said by the H.. Oh yeah the hero actually said hussies... what male says the word hussy? I'm being serious here not snarky. Males do not do that or compliment another male, who they do not know, by saying his father was good looking and so is the hero. For those of you wondering the "stepdad" says when they first meet.
The random drop in thoughts or scenes to justify something in the storyline. Like the hero magically has a plane ticket for the heroine after he kicked her out of his life for 3 weeks and said I'm just not that into you because I don't do relationships.
Ok to make a long story short...
My normal grump. This is a contemporary romance with a few labels packaged as paranormal.
The idea was good, the follow through was not. Mediocre characterization, they both had amazing gifts and I think the H's past sex history and the h lack of one got more page time. A plot line with holes, random scenes and thoughts turned into a book that I didn't want to waste any more time on.
A great story outline next time stick with it and don't be derailed by the same tropes everyone else uses. An amazing character outline was built but was trashed with a lack of detailed and immersive story telling.. so bummed could have been good.
As always this is my opinion if you normally stick to contemporary romance you will probably love the book.
I love this book. Just when I thought I had met all the sexy men from the Sectorium, Ms. Griscom introduces us to Hawk. Oh is he yummy. He has charm,a bit of cockiness and a distinct physical trait that seperates him from all the other hotties, one grey eye and one green. Add to that a muscular physique from playing hockey most of his life and you have the perfect male specimen.
Breena reads tarot cards at many of the sorority parties at her college as a way to make extra money, but what her clients don't know is that she can actually see their future. Her ability has kept her pretty isolated from having normal relationships because how do you explain to everyone why you wear gloves all year round or the vision they get with just one touch? This makes for a pretty exciting experience when a drop dead gorgeous guy walks in asking for help and the single touch sends shock waves into her system.
An extremely fascinating story filled with mystery, danger, love and a few surprises that will have you screaming at your kindle. I love everything about this book and can't get enough. Super sexy and passionate, I want more.
*A Gypsy's Kiss is a spinoff of the Whisper Cape series but can be read as a stand alone.
First off I think this is one of the must reads of 2015! I loved this book. The writting is just incredible. I was immediately immersed in the plot. AGK is a spin-off of her phenomenal Whisper Cape series, but not needed to enjoy this story. These characters are brilliantly written. Breena is a shy but intelligent girl. The author did such a great job at making her unique not weak. Hawk was strong and lovable. The chemistry between them reminds me of soul mates. Fated for one another. The plot was definitely an intense story line. Throw in some sweet romance and steamy love and you have the perfect recipe for a great book. This story made me want to yell, cry, laugh and left me breathless. I devoured this book in just a matter of a few hours.
A Gypsy’s Kiss is without a doubt both tantalizingly captivating and breathtakingly beautiful in its dark shroud of mystery, life-changing journey of love, and unwavering devotion to family. What an amazing gift to enjoy such an incredible adventure that highlights and focuses on the most important things that make life worth living! No one is ever truly unloved, and everyone touches the lives of those around them no matter how insignificant they think they are. Don’t ever discount your place and importance in this world. We are all created to fulfill a very specific purpose, and we are the only ones that fulfill can it. We need to daily gather hope and courage from that fact. The greatest that thing you will ever do is just to love and be loved in return.
Breena is born with a gift that she has only ever viewed as a curse. She doesn’t see her purpose in life as being meaningful and so she chooses to isolate herself from everyone. While she has a huge heart and an untapped reserve of love, she resigned herself to being alone. After all who could ever love and accept her for who she really is? It could be said that Hawk has it all with his endless popularity, natural athletic talent, and a loving family, but sometimes appearances can be deceiving. He has a growing concern that he knows only one person can help him with, but he isn’t sure he can convince Breena to help him out. He knows nothing about her, but as they try to unlock the mystery that haunts him, he sees in her what he has been missing and craving for in his own life. What starts out as a request for help slowly turns into a quest for winning the heart of the girl who completes him in every way. Will Breena open her heart and her life to take a chance to fulfill her deepest desire, or will she only give Hawk her help in unraveling the mystery surrounding his life?
Walking beside Breena and Hawk during this entire journey has been completely exhilarating and delightfully heartwarming. Highlighting the importance and power of family and friends made my heart soar to the Heavens as society today doesn’t typically view family in such a stunning and wholesome way. The only way we can succeed in this life is to hold our family close and to cherish the special love we find along the way just as dearly. I very much enjoyed watching Breena and Hawk discover and nurture the amazing love that came to life between then. Neither could have anticipated the impact that the other would have on them, and I am so glad that they took their time to learn about, cherish, and accept everything about each other. It was so wonderful to watch them fall in love and surrender to the beauty that their love created and inspired in them. It was their lifeline when things got hard, and it served as their courage to keep going when life looked impossible.
Susan Griscom wrote with a heart full of vibrant color and overflowing love. When you combine the two, you get something that is wholly unique and incredibly spectacular. It touches the heart in such a powerful way that you know you will take this story and its characters with you from this day forward. The paranormal and suspense genres have always appealed to me, but when you mix those with strong, passionate themes of family, devotion, and love, you will steal my heart away and earn my reading devotion every time. If you enjoy these genres and themes as well, do not hesitate to read this book. You will NOT be disappointed!
Review: A Gypsy's Kiss by Susan Griscom After my last disappointing read, I chose this book with the hope that it would prove to be a better choice. I was not disappointed. A GYPSY'S KISS is an entertaining story of first love that is filled with sufficient mystery and drama to keep you turning the pages. I found myself glued to my Kindle, which I had a hard time putting down. The author wove a captivating tale that plunges the reader into a world of hockey, college life, and supernatural capabilities.
Can you imagine going through life not being able to touch anyone and forming lasting relationships? Well, this is the life that Breena Cassidy is forced to live. Breena can see 12 hours into the future of anyone she makes skin to skin contact with. Although she is forced to live her life in solitude, she is very ambitious. She uses her skills in combination with tarot cards to help offset her college expenses. She does this at a variety of campus parties. It was on one such occasion that she met a mysterious guy who would bring about a change in her life in a manner she least expected.
Hawk Covington is every college girl's fantasy. He has a body to die for and the skills that make him a great hockey player. His main focus is on hockey, girls, and parties. He has no interest in being involved in a committed relationship. One of the most remarkable things about him is his two coloured eyes which give him the ability to track people and objects. He has lived a life relatively free of danger, and when he finds that he is being stalked by an unknown individual, he sought Breena's help. What he never counted on was his instant and eventually growing attraction to the lovely and remarkable Breena.
I was hooked from the moment I began reading. I was eager to find out who was stalking Hawk. The interaction between the main characters was entertaining and intriguing. The attraction between them was evident from the moment they touched. I could understand Breena's confusion when she touched Hawk and she did not have her usual reaction. They were both baffled by their feelings for each other. Watching them trying to come to terms with their feeling was both endearing and sweet.
There were incidences that I never expected to happen. This made for an interesting read. In the process of trying to find out who was stalking him, Hawk discovered things about himself that he never thought possible. It had him questioning what he had grown up believing. This discovery would lead to a major change in his life.
Although I enjoyed the story there are a few issues that I had: 1. It was evident that an intruder had been in both Hawk's and Breenas' room. However, the manner in which it was dealt with would indicate that they were not in the least concerned. This was not in line with the concept of the story.
2. I thought Hawk was too quick to trust a certain character. The fact that he was being stalked by an unknown individual should have made him more cautious as to who he could trust.
Verdict: A GYPSY'S KISS is an entertaining read that would appeal to fans of romance, mystery, and paranormal activities. This is the first book in the Sectorium series and can be read as a stand-alone. I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.

Looking for your next new book boyfriend? Hawk may just be it. He's one of the 'good guys' with a cocky edge that just make you melt.
A Gypsy's Kiss is the first book in Susan's Sectorium series, a spin-off of her incredible Whisper Cape trilogy, but no worries... it stands perfectly well on its own. Just enough backstory is given to make you aware of who and what the Sectorium is and how Breena fits into it.
Never having had the ability to touch another without exposing her secret, Breena has led a sheltered life. She's longed for the connection only physical contact can give, but was resigned to spend her life without it. Making extra money on the side at college doing tarot card readings, she's perplexed, intrigued and little bit frightened when she encounters a guy she's not able to read, even when she tries.
Hawk was fine with the simple things in life - parties, hockey and women. Until he found himself in a bind and sought out a myserious woman purported to be able to read someone's future. The one thing he wasn't expecting, however, was how he would react to her when they finally did meet, or how much his life would change after meeting her.
A Gypsy's Kiss is a tantalizing tale of discovery, danger, romance and love. If you're looking for a sweet and sexy love story with a bit of mystery and action, then you've come to the right place!
Really enjoyed this novel. It's the first in a new spin off series featuring members of the Sectory which we learned about in the Whisper Cape trilogy. You don't have to have read the Whisper Cape series to understand it though.
I loved the main Characters. Breena was only a kid in Whisper Cape, in this book she's all grown up and nearing graduation at college. Hawk was a great character and the catalyst for events in the story as he approaches Breena for help as he thinks he's being stalked.
I won't give anything away in the story except to say that Breena and Hawk had great chemistry and were well suited together in my opinion. I was addicted to the story from start to finish and there were a couple of twists at the end that I didn't expect!
Well worth picking up a copy when it's released on 11th May 2015. In the mean time I'd recommend picking up the Whisper Cape Trilogy if you haven't already!
A Gypsy's Kiss WOW!! WHAT A GREAT STORY!!! This is a spin off series of The Whisper Cape series by Susan Griscom but I tell you that you don't have to read that series to know what AGK is about. Susan describes what you need to know about the Sectorium and peoples ablilities so you can understand them. She also mentions some of the characters in the Whisper Cape series cause they do relate to Breena and you wouldn't be lost.
Hawk a hockey player and Breena a student both have ablities. They meet cause Hawk needs Breena's help. Boy he got more than he was looking for. What a wonderful story of two young adults being friends, being there for one another and seeing where their relationship goes.
Susan did great with this story that you can actually see the places where the characters were and you can feel any emotions they had. WELL DONE!! Can't wait for book 2. But in the mean time seems I didn't read the Whisper Cape series I think I will dig in to that.
I loved this! Breena and Hawk both have powers that they have to keep hidden from those around them. Hawk seeks out Breena when he hears about her powers because he thinks she can help him. She can't, because he's the only person whose future she can't see. Although, that makes it possible to touch him. She's never had a relationship because of her powers. He thinks he can't have a relationship because he is always traveling for hockey. I liked the romance and the characters, but there are also some mystery and some hidden secrets. Interesting story. I haven't read the Whisper Cape books, and it's not necessary to this book, but I might check them out in the future. I'm also looking forward to more from this series. Whisper Cape fans are in for a treat with A Gypsy's Kiss. From the start, I was hooked. One of my favorite parts of the book is the dream. Even after I finished reading this incredible story, I can still picture that scene over and over again. Susan did such an incredible job at creating interesting characters and a story that twists and comes at you like BAM!! The story itself is never dull and kept a good pace. I was able to finish it in one sitting and looking for more. I am curious how this series is going to turn out and who from Whisper Cape will pay a visit =)
I was lucky enough to snag an ARC. I usually prefer books with really meaty stories and just a little romance, but this book is enough to change my mind. The romance develops beautifully with the mystery constantly haunting the young couple. I loved the characters. The psychologist in me found their actions and reactions so consistant I felt as though they were real. A wonderful balance of action, romance, mystery, dialog and description. I hated to have to put it down to sleep, and ended up with my kindle on my face when I woke up.
When Brenna went to do a side job at a sorority house she never dreamed she would meet the man of her dreams. She does on the form of hockey player Hawk, never dreaming that he would be like her with his own special powers. These two embark on quite the adventure looking for a mysterious person and it takes both their powers put together to fight this person. I loved this story of magic and love that transcends everything! These two overcome so much together and Susan Griscom is at her best yet again!
This was a great story. A college gal trying to make extra money telling fortunes. A college hockey player, center and captain of the team. What do they in common. They both have powers that have to be kept secret. Hawk seeks out Breena to help him with a problem that he can't quite see. Falling in love was never in the cards.
This was a well written story and I was laughing, crying, and falling in love. Definitely a must read.
Hawk has a way with words, “you have such a beautiful **s,” he breathed in between kisses. “I want to kiss it. Will you let me kiss it, Gypsy?” Hawk is a gentleman he takes his woman's suitcase for her, "he shook his head, grabbed the handle of the bag and then grabbed my hand. “Only you, Gypsy. How am I supposed look macho pulling a purple suitcase?” I loved this book it had my two favorite things paranormal and a sexy hunk of a man.
The ideas behind this book series is one I enjoy. Unfortunately the interest ended there. Between the deluge of information and the awkward writing I did my best to slog through.
With hope the author will find her stride and continue creating.
I loved this story. I haven't read the previous Sectorian trilogy, but you really don't need to. The book stated that Breena was related to characters from them but they weren't involved in the story. Breena can't touch anyone without seeing and showing them the next twelve hours of their lives. She does fortune telling for money because she can get a glimpse of their future from touching something they just touched, like money. She meets Hawks during one of these fortune tellings but he doesn't see anything. She even touches him to see if she can see anything. Hawks needs help to find out if he is being followed but she can't help him. They find out that they both have some kind of supernatural power. What starts out as two people finally being able to talk to someone of their own age about their gifts, starts blossoming into something more. Danger is still coming for Hawks and now Breena has gotten involved. I love the surprises that happen throughout the story. I would read more books like this anytime.

Review
This book has it all pretty girl who has what she thinks of is a cursed cause she can’t touch anyone without seeing their next twenty-four hours in their life. Then she meets a guy who she can’t see his future at all. They have this connection, which can’t denied, yet at first they try and hide from it and when they start to except it their world gets turned upside down. The way the story flows is perfect for this plot, the characters growth is impeccable, you feel each emotion right along with Breena and even gain some of the emotion from Hawk, but for me at least not all of his. I just loved this new world I was introduced to and look forward to reading more of this series as it’s is released. Looking into the author I found out that there is another series of three books, which are prequel to this series and I will be reading them.
Conclusion
The author knows how to tell to good story and has great imagination in their world they have created. I so look forward to reading more from this author and the prices on her books seem spot on not over prices like some authors yet not under valued either. As to will I recommend this story to others yes, yes, and yes. Age of the people, whom should be reading this story are grown adults only because of the sexual content.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I am loving this new series! Breena has always kept to herself due to her supernatural ability, which practically makes her untouchable. Hawk is the bigshot hockey player with abilities of his own. He has a dark feeling that something is following him so he seeks out Breena, the campus gypsy, to see if she can help. Upon their first meeting for a tarot card reading, both are startled due to the immediate pull they have to each other. This is the start of a crazy ride. These two just don't know how to act around each other. They both want to be around each other but they both try and stay away from each other. Breena reveals a huge secret to Hawk regarding their races and this sets the course for the rollercoaster of events and emotions to start. You will not want to put this book down!
"Gypsy, you’ve bewitched me. You have me turned upside down and twisted so that my body can’t figure out which is my brain and which is my heart. You make me dizzy, and if my world were to end tomorrow, I wouldn’t care because I have this, with you, right now."
This is the first book I have read by this author, but I am hooked! Absolutely a page turner. The characters are easy to fall in love with. Be prepared for a multitude of emotions. You will laugh at one moment then you heart strings will be pulled. Perfect mixture of love, life, and magic!
Breena feels she is cursed. Whenever she touches someone she sees their future and they immediately see what she sees. That is until Hawk walks into the room where she was doing fortune-telling. When she touched him she saw nothing. Soon she realizes that he is like her and has abilities. Hawk came to see Breena to see if she could help him with who he thinks is following him. When she can’t help him she thinks she won’t see him again even though they have serious sparks. Breena is wrong there. The two of them can’t seem to stay away from each other. But as secrets about Hawk’s past come out they are drawn even closer. Can the two of them figure out who is hunting them and get past the hurts in their past?
I adored this story. It sucked me in from the first page. Breena and Hawk’s immediate attraction is quite enthralling. You really feel the draw between them. As you learn more about the character’s you are drawn further and further into the hidden world. The intrigue of the people hunting them down adds a level to the story that makes you want to know more and know more right now. Susan Griscom’s fantastic character building and story telling stands out among authors in the same genre. I can’t wait to get my hands on another of her books.
Interesting college romance between two people with special abilities.
Breena has led a sheltered life due to her ability to see the next 12 hours of the future of anybody she touches. Not only does she see it, the person she touches does also. As a result, she is a loner who covers as much skin as possible with clothing to avoid touching anyone. She makes money reading tarot cards at campus parties.
Hawk also has special abilities, but he uses them in his hockey. He is sure that something is tracking/haunting him. Hawk meets Breena at one of her tarot card reading events and there is an immediate attraction. The sparks literally fly between them.
From there the story really takes off with lots of unexpected twists and turns, family drama and lots of suspense. During it all, Breena and Hawk become very close and realize that fate has brought them together for a reason.
Susan Griscom story just has a way of make your feel like you are in the story with the characters. Would highly recommend that you will love this story and won’t be able to put it down until you finish. Breena is reading cards on Halloween when she meets Hawk. She is that something is following Hawk, something dark. Breena has always seen her gift as a curse. She is unable to touch someone without get a vision of their history. When Breena touches Hawk she thinks something is wrong, because she see nothing. Something like a void. Will we see what journey that this will take us with Hawk and Breena? Will Breena finally be able to feel love with someone? The characters and the challenges they face with and together are amazing.
I've wrestled with this review for a while. While the story was unique and well written, I couldn't personally connect with any character in the story. Even though I was interested enough to read through the book, it wasn't for me. Three glittery stars.
This is the first book I've read by Susan Griscom, but it will definitely not be the last. I loved the characters, the storyline, the suspense, and the romance. Breena and Hawk are two gifted people that meet on Halloween night. Breena can't believe that she can actually touch Hawk without seeing into his future. She doesn't understand why, but she is so thankful. Can you imagine being 22 and never had a hug or anything from a HOT guy? If you want to read an unbelievable book, I highly recommend A Gypsy's Kiss.
I absolutely loved this book. I loved Breena as a little girl in the Whisper Cape series. She was such a cute kid. Now she is all grown up and on her own journey. When she meets Hawk she experiences things she have never experienced before with her powers. She then goes on a search to help Hawk discover what he feels and finds out that he too has powers of his own. Along this journey they discover so much about each other and Breena helps a hunky hockey player find answers! I absolutely loved this book and these characters and can't wait for more from Susan Griscom!
This was a great read and I enjoyed reading about Breena and Hawk and how they came together.
Breena, a young woman with a gift that keeps her apart from other people and is stronger and more resilient than even she knows. Hawk is a young man who uses the image of a shallow hockey player to hide his own gifts ands pain.
What happens when circumstances toss these two together? Do yourself a favour and find out!
