Wow, this book came out of nowhere and completely stole my heart! I had never heard of the author, or this series, until I was offered the opportunity to read this book, and I’m normally not one to read series books out of order, but I loved the sound of this one so much that I dove in and it’s so freaking good! The writing is fantastic, the characters are flawed yet loveable, the story is fantastic, and the romance is flirty, sexy, swoony, and just gorgeous. I loved it!

Wyatt’s career as a drift racer comes to a screeching halt when he crashes during a race and is badly injured. Needing intense rehab, he flies back home to Texas and his dysfunctional family, subjecting himself to their strained relationship so that he can get the help he needs.

Isla’s life has just been upended after finding her husband in bed with another woman. She knew things weren’t great between them, and she’s been tired of her husband’s controlling ways for some time, but she’s still devastated and betrayed. It’s her best friend that suggests a night out to forget about her worries, and in a bizarre twist, she runs into Wyatt and they recognise each other from a missed connection ten years earlier when they were teenagers. They both felt something really special that night, but a misunderstanding meant it never went any further. Now they’re both in the same place at the same time, and still feeling their attraction.

I’ve spent ten years wondering what we would have been like together. Now is the time to find out.

Things get complicated when Isla turns up to her job as a physical therapist to find that Wyatt is her new client. Of course she’s not supposed to have anything personal to do with her client, but seeing each other day in and day out, with all of that chemistry between them, the stage is set for all that is to come.

He wasn’t supposed to be my patient. He was supposed to be my revenge fuck. The slutty one-night stand that helped me fuck my way past a failed marriage. And before that, he was the elusive memory of a perfect night spent in his company, learning that there were better partners who would let me choose what I wanted for life.

OMG, I love this relationship! Their night together all of those years together definitely left its mark, and I love that they never forgot about each other. But life in the present is full of complications. I’m not going to go into details, because there are ups, downs, twists and turns as Wyatt and Isla get to know each other again. It’s one of those books that you need to dive in and experience because I felt everything right alongside them, and I loved it every step of the way! Their attraction is sizzling, the flirtation had my heart pounding with anticipation, and when they finally get down to it… holy hell, it’s seriously hot!

“That wasn’t sex, that was annihilation by cock. I’m dead. Ruined forever.” She turns her face toward me, a lazy smile curving her cheek that is still pressed against the seat.
“Damn straight, baby.

But there’s so much more to them than just sex and attraction. They find something really special together – a connection that neither of them have experienced before – and I love the honest rawness between them as they follow their hearts and open themselves up to everything that is happening between them.

I stop my tickling and stare at her beautiful face. Well, fuck me, that’s it. I’m a goner for this gorgeous girl who laughs with abandon, speaks from the heart, uses her talents to heal, and pushes her body to perform under intense pressure. Whatever she wants, I’ll make sure she gets. Starting with my heart on a platter. I’ll gladly leave it here in Austin, with her, when I leave. No one else deserves what’s left of it anyway.

Wyatt and Isla both have painful pasts and are carrying a lot of emotional baggage from all that they’ve been through. Add to that Wyatt’s recovery, Isla’s separation from her husband, and the massive question of what happens between them when Wyatt returns home to California, and there is SO much for this couple to deal with. And I loved journeying with them while they do that, falling hard for each other along the way.

“I want you forever, Bird.”
“I’m yours.”

I loved Isla as a character, and I completely fell for Wyatt. The romance is definitely the strongest part of the book, but they have their individual challenges to overcome as well, and I really like the strength they showed in maintaining their independence and dealing with their own stuff. But as much as I love them on their own, they are magic together. Sexy, sweet, and swoonily romantic, their love story is just gorgeous and I love them together so much!

I feel seen, truly seen, for the first time in my life. He knows my flaws, he understands my hang-ups, he celebrates my passions, and through it all, he still manages to make me feel loved and accepted without expectations.

This book fits into the Drift series but it reads really well as a standalone. The couple from the first book appear as Wyatt’s friends, and they were fun to meet, and I’m going to go back and read their story as soon as I can. But this book belongs purely to Wyatt and Isla, and I loved their story. It’s emotional and beautifully romantic, and it ends in a great place with a wonderfully sweet epilogue.

“We’re not done, Isla, we’re so far from done, you have no idea.”

“We’ll never be done, Wyatt.”

Loved it! 4.5 stars.

Today I finished reading BROKEN DRIFT by –new to me – author Adrian Hale. It seems to be the second book in a series with standalone characters and storylines. Broken Drift is a well developed second chance romance. With Wyatt and Isla - Ms. Hale gave us two strong independent characters that have unfinished business with each other. Not everything is as it seems and the reader should be prepared for twists, turns and antagonists – everything that a good plot should have in store.

My feelings towards the characters.... – the author obviously spend a lot of time in the development of the characters – but I am not sure if for my very VERY personal taste Isla had too much focus on certain things. As I often say I need to connect to the characters in a certain way to feel them and Isla felt distant to me in the – very important - because story shaping – first chapters. It made me wonder what Wyatt saw in her.

On the other hand, it felt easier to forgive Wyatt a lot once you got a closer look at his life. While at first glance he seemed superficial, the second glance proved that the first was only a façade to handle his hurt.

The reader will be entertained by some great secondary characters and a spiteful antagonist – gosh I really hated that guy.

In total the reader gets a solid second chance novel with a an interesting cast and a great plot

Wyatt, a 28-year-old race car driver, crashes his car badly during heats in the American Drift League’s California circuit and ends up needing extensive rehabilitation and a new car. He moves back home to his parents in Texas for his rehabilitation with great trepidation and meets Isla, again!

Oh, poor Isla, how I wanted to stomp on James, her ex-husband with five-inch stilettos right over his manhood! Yes, that’s violent but then he is such a nasty piece of work. She really can’t catch a break in so many areas of her life yet she is a positive and caring person who you like more and more as you get to know her better.

Wyatt, who to be honest I found annoying at first, has actually been through quite a lot in his twenty-eight years so he’s forgiven for being a pain occasionally because he really is a great character once you get to know him. I think the author did this on purpose though. 😉 Both Wyatt and Isla are a great fit together in their misfit lives, living miles apart and with their incredibly difficult training schedules.

I feel compelled to say this author really knows how to create characters of all sorts and mould them to the story’s needs. The ‘bad’ characters are described so well, gradually building up a more vile profile that makes you revolted by them, well mainly one..James..what an absolute rotter. Likewise, there are wonderful secondary characters too and Jessica, Isla’s lawyer, is sensational. She is the heroine of the day for Isla at one stage and a shark’s teeth never looked so inviting. 😉

“What matters most is how well you walk through the fire.” is the quote that is tattooed across Wyatt’s chest and although very apt in this story, it really is for everyone in everyday life. It is very thought-provoking, there are quite a few issues within this story that are and all are handled well. The emotional roller coaster you ride on, with each character, is filled to the brim with a variety of different feelings from despair to anger and happiness to joy.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and have no hesitations recommending it to everyone.

Broken Drift is an emotional, sexy romance!

Wyatt and Isla met briefly years ago, but their time together was magical. However, the time for them wasn’t right. Fast forward, and fate has brought them back together. The chemistry and pull they feel toward one another is still there, but there is one complication. Isla is the woman who is in charge of helping him heal his body so that he can return to his passion...racing.

Both Wyatt and Isla are broken and have been for years but for different reasons. Each have complicated families, and both have fallen short of very important goals they have set for themselves. However, through their respect, devotion, and love for one another might just help heal the broken places in their hearts.

From the beginning, these two share incredible chemistry. They are one of those couples that just naturally gravitate toward one another. When they realize that Isla is his physical therapist, they try oh so hard to remain “just friends.” That friendship lays the foundation of their future relationship. Both of them are flawed individuals, but that is exactly what endeared them to me. I admired the mutual respect they had for one another. These two really, really deserved each other and the happiness they brought to each other’s lives.

Like the characters, the story, itself, was great as well. The author threw some curveballs in there that I wasn’t expecting. Those made the story even better and kept the pace fast. I haven’t read this writer before. I really enjoy finding new writers, and now I have added Adrian R. Hale to my list of writers to watch for all of their new releases.

What a beautiful read about two characters that have a ton of emotional baggage between the two, a complicated situation, a bit of history and chemistry that is undeniable.

I was sucked into this book from the beginning. I wanted to see these two characters find their happy endings but theirs is not all sunshine and rainbows. There will be a lot of twists and turns, bumps in the road and complications that they will have to work through.

Adrian did such a great job with not only creating two characters that we feel emotionally invested into their story but a story line that will grip you. I highly recommend this book. I did read the first in this series but I don't think you have to read it in order to enjoy this book, now I won't say that I don't recommend it because it was another do not miss book but you will love this one as a standalone as well.

I received an ARC of this second book in the series through a blogger and am voluntarily leaving my review. We met Wyatt, another drift driver, in book 1, and he played a prominent role in that story. In this book, Wyatt finds he needs to return home to Texas for an extended period of time, where he comes into contact with Isla, a girl from his past who is a physical therapist. They are drawn together, and unbeknownst to both Wyatt and Isla is that their shared past involves more than just their one night at the bar over ten years ago. There is much involved in each of their stories, and you go through a myriad of emotions throughout this book. The intense chemistry, devotion, and strength in both of these characters will have you cheering them on – individually and as a couple. I am so hoping that there will be more books in this series.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story of second chance of love for both Isla and Wyatt.

This author is brilliant at building up characters, both bad and good, and allowing readers to get to know them on a more intimate level. Apart from the lead characters who really did belong together because they fit so well, like pieces of a puzzle well, I must mention James! He was one nasty, self-centred, arrogant, controlling man, to put it politely. The thing is, we are not lead into a full understanding of just how much of a creep he is until close to the end., a great buildup. Likewise the other race team members are all supportive and fun but more like family than friends.

Some neat twists help to change things up in the story and keep it even more interesting. As well some hard life issues are tackled but written about well and dealt with fairly.

A great story.

Wyatt and Isla are two different people yet have one thing in common, Brendan. It has been years since they seen each other but the chemistry is still there. I loved that Isla knows what she wants but there are people trying to stop her from having happiness. Then we have Wyatt, a man still stuck in the past. Two people still not healed from the past yet determined to learn to let go. I loved that Adrian wrote Wyatts stort seeing him with Isla was beautiful and hot in each chapter. Hope to see Adrian do more of this series with the adrenaline of drifting and racing come to life it is fun filled with tons of sexy men.

This was the first book I have read from this author. I was immediately drawn to the synopsis and I was not disappointed. This book can be read as a standalone but there are some characters that are in the other books. The main characters in this book Isla and Wyatt are great. They both have their own baggage but they seem to come to each other in the perfect time in their lives. They truly did make me swoon and get angry at times especially Islas ex husband. But over all this book was great!

Arc was kindly given in exchange for an honest review.

3.5* Wyatt and Isla met years ago but never made it past that first night of flirtation. Now when they're at their lowest, they find each other again. Neither were looking for a relationship but both definitely got more than they thought they wanted.

They both had issues, both had problems that they had to work through. Was it going to be too much for one of them.? Would they be able to get where they needed to be personally so they could have the kind of relationship that they desired?

Adorable! Race-cars, good-looking men, fitness, and love. I found this book to be a cozy read that I looked forward to reading each day. Wyatt and Isla are wonderful and well-developed characters. I truly love a flawed character who strives to overcome their obstacles. This is the case for both Wyatt and Isla.

I was pleased to discover that Adrian R. Hale has written another book in this series and I hope that there will be more. If you like a cozy romance with admirable characters, this is a book for you!

This book was adorable. The characters-Isla and Wyatt-were the most admirable people I've read in a long time.

The character arcs alone should be enough incentive to read this book but if that's not enough for you then the relationship that Wyatt and Isla develop definitely is. Wyatt needs to confront his past and accept several things before he can start to move on to the future. And Isla needs to come into her own.

Adrian R. Hale constructed those situations so beautifully, they seemed effortless. Wyatt went through emotional helm before realizing that he couldn't control the actions of other people. And Isla fought back and became independent without someone holding her back. Maybe some people will call early Wyatt and Isla cheating but I don't view it like that, (and I won't say more because spoilers.) They both overcame what was their biggest fears and became better people together. Which I think is the goal for every relationship: To make each other better.

Wyatt and Isla drove this feel good story about second chances and what happens when you let people in. I loved it.

There is, I think, a lot to like about this multi faceted story.  Each character's individual story arc is immersive and the two together are delightful to read.

There is a lot of emotion packed into the pages, and whilst there might be no surprises as to the outcome, the enjoyment is in the journey.

My one niggle?  The best friend.  She just drops out of the picture completely after serving her purpose.  For me, that feels like an unanswered question.  It did not, however, spoil my enjoyment of the book at all.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

Wyatt Parker has returned back to Austin, Texas, after a potentially career ending injury. It has sidelined him from drift racing. This sport is his world, his team is his family. Texas holds to many painful memories for him. And Wyatt is not prepared to face the family, that fell apart ten years ago, again. Not when he needs to throw all he has into his recovery. So he can get back to California, his home, back to racing.

An unexpected turn in his plans, comes in the form of the beautiful, passionate, Isla. A women he never through he would see again. Wyatt cant help but think its fate that shes right in front of him again. And now rushing through his recovery and heading home is a starting to get harder, when Isla is right here.

Isla world has just imploded. And she’s left to pick up the pieces. She's trying to make it through the pain and mess and find her new normal. Isla has overcome a lot in her life, a sad and painful past that still lingers after all these years. She's worked hard to put that part of her life behind her and focus on the now, working as a PT and her passion for competeing in Iron man races. Isla has put her time, heart and soul into her training. To prove to herself the kind of athlete she is. She strives to push her boundaries.

Her main focus should be on all that. But when a tattooed, sexy, man who she never thought she would see again, strides back into her life. Isla struggles with her feelings and what Wyatt being back in her life means.

Meeting again ten years later, those sparks they shared so long ago never faded. But Wyatt and Isla share a past that they never knew was connected, connected by tragedy. And now when they have just found each other again, the past may tear them apart.

Isla and Wyatt were so great, they have real passion for what they do. And they see that passion in each other. They understand the drive to do better, be better, to live out their dreams. They never hold the other back and they root and cheer for each other they whole way. Adrian R. Hale did a great job to bring that to life through each chapter.

I was so intrigued by Wyatt when I first met him in Drift Heat, so it was so great to dive into his story and get into his head. To learn more about who he is. There were so many different sides to him, and getting to explore them was so great. Isla is a fantastic character to read. Strong, sweet, sassy and vulnerable. She fought to stay true to herself and learn who she was after everything she went through.

The connection Wyatt and Isla share was beautiful and sweet. It was fun and sexy. This book was such a good time and a great book to get lost in. With Heat, romance, humor, dreams, and angst, how could it not be.

This is not my usual style of book, car race drivers, but the blurb was intriguing. A boy and girl, late teens, meet up and chat in a bar. There were the possibilities of many things, but fate intervened and they never met again. Wyatt leaves Austin, Texas, under the cloud of a tragedy and settles in California where he develops a career in car drifting. Isla was in a hiatus from her relation with a boyfriend who did not give her all the feels, but he was safe, Wyatt never came back, so she settled.

Ten years later, Wyatt has a broken arm and Isla has a broken heart. They meet by serendipity, in a bar, again, on the exact day that Wyatt returns to Austin and Isla decides to drink her bad marriage woes away. Another encounter and another goodbye, but two days later, they meet again. Isla is the therapist in charge of Wyatt’s physical rehabilitation.

Wyatt finally found the girl who got away and he was determined this time she would not get away again. Isla had so many insecurities and hurts that she was not in a good place to pursue anything. There was a secret in their past that threatened to blow away this second chance, plus Isla had her triathlon ambitions, while Wyatt had a championship he wanted to get back into. It seemed like they had a lot keeping them apart, and it only depended on their will to make it work.

I didn’t like Isla very much as a character. I saw her as a subdued woman who cringed at the first sign of a fight. She dithered a lot, she cried when she didn’t make her time at races, she didn’t seem to have the guts to make it. She was not an inspirational character. Wyatt was pushy in a good way, very supportive and understanding. I liked him loads more than Isla. I had some problems with the author’s writing style, I found it a little boring in some places and there was more introspection than actual dialogue and action. The story was great but it didn’t flow smooth for me.

Broken Drift was nothing I expected and everything I didn't know I wanted. This is my first exposure to Adrian R. Hale's stories, but she will definitely be on my radar from now on.
Wyatt has been feeling like he's in a rut when he crashed his car in a race and loses mobility in his right arm. Going back home is the last thing he wants to do, but he can't keep relying on his friends. Everything about being back home brings him face to face with the girl he left behind ten years ago.

Isla life has been turned upside down completely when she comes home to find her husband with another woman. She never thought this would be her life. She's been with her husband since high school. Now, after years together she's done living life carefully. Going out for a hook-up she runs smack dab into Wyatt, the man that left her ten years ago.

Weeks after the encounter Isla never expected to see Wyatt again. When he becomes her client Wyatt finally thinks he has a chance to convince her to give them a chance.

Broken Drift was a great story. Very enjoyable. I liked that their relationship was all about what's best for them and each other and that they pushed each other to meet their goals. I also loved that Isla didn't give up on her training after Wyatt and her got together. I really enjoyed the ending and can't wait to see where this series takes us.

4 STAR Review by Jodi for Ruby Red Romance Review

Adrian Hale is a new to me author. I love books that involve any form of racing and this book was not exception to that. I normally like to read books in order, but I thought I'd give this one a try. I'm glad I did.

Wyatt is a drifter...no really, he drift races. That is until he's injured and is forced to put his career on hold. Needing help, Wyatt moves home to Texas. I have to say, in the beginning I wasn't a fan of Wyatt. I really thought he was cocky and full of himself. But as the saying goes, people are like onions, you have to peel them back a layer at a time...I found that's exactly what I had to do with Wyatt. Once you got to the center of who he was, you realized why he was who he was. I loved getting to know him.

Isla has been through hell and back...literally. I can't tell you the things I wanted to do to her ex-husband. But a chance encounter brings her face to face with someone from her past, someone who could help her remember who she was. I found Wyatt and Isla to have amazing chemistry.

I enjoyed this book from start to finish. It was fast paced and kept me wanting more. I can't wait to read more from Adrian Hale.

That saying that the original is always better than the sequel is truly put to test with Adrian Hale’s second book of the Drift series. Wyatt’s made some mistakes, but when a severe accident takes him out of the racing series, he has no choice but to go home and recover. Fate leads him to his “one that got away” when he leaves the tension of his home and goes out for the night. Isla is looking for some fun after catching her useless husband cheating in their bed. A decade has gone by since that fateful night in the bar and they can’t stay away from each other. Ironically, she happens to be his physical therapist. Both are trying to heal from their disastrous pasts and realize that even their pasts are connected. Both Wyatt and Isla are struggling to meet their goals.

The way Wyatt speaks to and about Isla is swoon worthy! I wish for a love like this! The plot twists, spice, love, and patience they have for one another makes them goals! If he’s not like Wyatt Parker, I don’t want him!!!

Broken Drift is book two in the Drift series, but it can read as a standalone. This is my first read my Adrian Hale and I enjoyed it. I am a sucker for second chance romances.

Wyatt who lives for racing is pulled to a complete stop after a horrible accident and heads home to heal and recover. He never dreams of running into Isla again, the woman who has been on his mind over the years. Isla’s world has just been tilted on its axis when she discovers her husband has been having an affair. She heads out for a night on the town and never imagines running into Wyatt. She throws caution to the wind and gives him one night. Although their journey started out a little slow for me, overall I am glad I continued reading their story!

This was a good second chance book. The characters are strong and solid. The interest between Wyatt and Isla is there, however she seems distant at first. Wyatt seems superficial and cocky, you find out that is just a smoke screen to cover his true self.

There is a great cast of supporting characters. Some you will love to hate! Your probably fairly certain how it will end, but the journey there is where it all is!

I almost DNF the book when I found out that Isla is still married to her husband when the story began. It was not cool and it made me worry that there would be cheating. Well, technically she is still married to the other dude when she sleeps with Wyatt, but I was willing to let it go since she is separated from her husband. The ex is such a douche and I wanted to see him crushed and burned. He is the most hated character of the month.

Overall the book was good. It had some weak points, hence the 4 stars. Wyatt and Isla were likable, but they weren't perfect. I didn't exactly understand why that one night meant so much to them, but it helped with their reunion. Wyatt had a wandering eye, which I did not approve of, but as long as the rule "look but don't touch" is on, I can't complain. Isla had some good and some bad moments, but mostly I was cheering for her and she was on my good side. I did think that some things weren't needed to the story like the plotline about Isla's father and they were just thrown in as a shock and drama factor, which is the reason I am giving 4 stars to the book. Some parts of the book were slow while others had the perfect pace, but I didn't mind that. In my opinion, the book was good and you should check it out.
