In this page turner, DCI Ted Darling and his team have a couple of particularly nasty cases to deal with. A report of a low-life predator on their patch seeking young teenage girls, and a cold case involving a retired high ranking police officer. I couldn't put this one down. Another brilliantly written and researched book by LM Krier.
Ted is definitely out of his comfort zone in more than one way in this book. Whilst he hates bent coppers, he is not really at ease being the one doing the investigating, although what transpires when he follows a retired senior officer to Spain helps with that.
In this book we see more of Ted's fears and vulnerabilities, which demonstrate that Ted is not as calm, confident and apparently invincible as outward appearances may suggest. He normally manages to keep his anxieties to himself but there is a spanner in his works rejoicing in the name of Trev!
This storyline reflects the way that Ted has trained his team so well that he begins to think that they may not really need him, and as he gets a chance to be more "hands on" he realises how much he misses front line policing. Are these hints that he might want to take a step back or does fate (or at least the author) have something else in store for him? Whatever happens I expect to be enjoying Ted and his team for some time yet.
Despite its grim subject matter, this is one of the gentler stories in this series, although that does not, in any way, lessen its impact. There is only one moment of major drama, which allows the drama of the overall storyline to remain centre stage.
I have never read a book in this series which I did not like, or even one which I liked less than any of the others and this one is no exception. It was a great way to pass the afternoon.
I seem to have been waiting forever to catch up with Ted Darling and co. However it was worth the wait. I have not been able to put this one down, even though I was deliberately trying to read slowly to make the book last as long as possible. The characters are so good that you feel like you belong to this intensely close family and as soon as you finish the book you miss them and are impatiently waiting for the next story. I've read every Ted Darling book and long may they continue to be published Hope to see you soon Ted.
This wonderful series goes from strength to strength. Ted Darling is one of the most refreshing characters in contemporary crime fiction, and it is refreshing to read a novel of this sort in which the lead detectives are genuinely nice people who work together to achieve optimum results. As we travel from Stockport to London to southern Spain, all the strands of this excellent story come together skilfully to provide a superb read.
Once again, a welcome addition to the Ted Darling series. It has a great mix of well written crime and the characters personal lives, which is just getting better and better. If you love your UK crime series I would recommend starting this one from book 1, nicely done with good twists and turns and you'll love Ted and his gang as you read more about them.
I love the Red Darling series,I hope they go on & on.I love the storylines in each book & also how it shows you how the criminal thinks as well it what they went through in life.Ted & Trev are brilliant together & I love all the banter between them all.Definitely 1 of ma favourite police series ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Yet another brilliant story following the adventures of DCI Ted Darling and his team and not forgetting his happy home life. Each one in the series is stand alone for the most part but a much better idea is to start at number one. I guarantee that if you do you will have to read them all. Lovable characters and great plots, what more could you want.
As expected another fantastic read. I ENJOY the lesser stories within the main story, which really hep to make darling Ted so real and imaginable. Well done Leslie. Keep them coming. Can't get enough.
Billirant!!! I really enjoyed this installment. Trev had more than cameo role. I also liked the fact that Ted seems to be on the rise in his career. Keep the books coming! Enjoying the growth evolution of Ted as a copper and a husband. Another great read!!
Well deserved 5 stars Love this author and catching up with Ted an trev and his team ,Lesley is a great thriller writer really keeps you on edge roll on book 13 her boot are UN put downable
LM. Krier has done it again!! I loved this book (as I have all the books). I loved the characters especially Ted and Trev. What a cracker of a book and I highly recommend it.
The reason for the title isn't clear until near the end, and it's quite awful. Nonetheless, the author does a fine job with difficult subject matter, allowing us to discover what has happened to the girls though the reactions of the characters rather than telling us directly.
What can I say, I just love a really good story and this was really good. I enjoyed all the twists and turns this book delivered. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys reading a really good crime mystery.
Yes again I couldn't stop reading till I'd finished. Now waiting for the next one. Should be made into a film it would have us on the edge of our seats. Ted is someone I'd like to meet and his cat Adam
This series keeps getting better and better. Fascinating, complex characters and story lines that are new and original. Kudos to the author - 5 stars is not enough. Thank you for sharing your gift.
I love this series and the characters in these books. The stories are believable, have integrity and are written so well, you can see yourself meeting these people in the real world.
As the series as gone on, I've come to dislike Ted Darling very much. He's pretentious, self-righteous, and condescending (to men and women alike). I'm done with Ted.
This is another terrific book in the Ted Darling series. The author certainly doesn’t shy away from the most awful of crimes and yet handles it brilliantly without going into unnecessary grim detail. This time Ted is right outside his comfort zone being called on to investigate a corrupt policeman who is now living in Spain. This has come about as the result of an ongoing current case on Ted’s local patch. I’m a huge fan of Ted Darling, his team and of course, Trev. This series is consistently excellent and this one does not disappoint.
Loved it! Billirant! Had to wipe a tear halfway through. LM Krier just produces a better book each time. Had to read it in one sitting even though my plan was to string it out!!!
I have read every one of the Ted Darling books by L M Krier and they are all a cracking read. The author is meticulous in her research of police procedures to ensure the stories are always credible. As the books are set where I live it adds extra interest.
