Dr. Sugar Jennings has a problem. Bad Panther has the purr-fect solution.
Dr. Sugar Jennings is an Archaeologist and an Ancient Earth Historian. She’s also the host of a very old, very ancient artifact of enormous power. Everyone wants Sugar dead because of it. They want the power she possesses, but she can’t let them get it.
Desperation drives her to seek help but no one is willing to risk their own life in the job of protecting hers. Or no one did until a mercenary Panther Shifter decided she might be worth the trouble. Now all she has to do is convince the ancient artifact she carries not to kill Axel for trying to help her.
Axel Rodu is a rogue Panther Shifter and heir to Lyran throne on Earth.
His work for the agency is special contract only but even their toughest problems barely keep his boredom at bay. Has he earned the name Bad Panther? Depends on who you ask so long as you don’t ask his newest client.
Ironically though, Axel has no intentions of using Dr. Sugar Jennings to worsen his reputation. He has one job to do concerning the archaeologist and one job only. By order of his queen, whatever it takes, he must make sure Dr. Jennings stays alive until the artifact is done with her.
I am an active dreamer and find writing to be the best way to use my creativity. Needing to satisfy both sides of my brain, I have become a cross-genre author of contemporary, romantic comedy, fantasy, science fiction, and paranormal romances.
I feel blessed that my books appear on bestseller lists for humor, romantic comedy, space opera, and more. I crave laughter from all my readers and focus my attention on making that happen as often as possible.
I love to hear from anyone who has read my books. Each reader is a hero or heroine to me. I am inspired by you.
Although fairly easy to read, I found the story was a bit vague and too cut and dry for my taste.
Sugar and Axel's romance was non-existent and the pacing was way too fast for me to even get any real inkling for any of the numerous characters you're introduced to. There were a couple of time jumps of several months that didn't really help flesh out the story and even though the sentient blades are definitely an interesting concept and the anti-love Hero definitely had potential to become an angsty read, neither idea ever grew from it's original impression.
I read it the whole way through hoping it would get better but ultimately didn't connect with anyone or anything.
Others that don't need the fluff and one on one page time with the MCs might enjoy this more.

Rogue Panther Shifter and heir to Lyran throne Axed Rodu has one job to do concerning the archeologist and one job only, by order of his queen he must make sure Dr. Jennings stays alive until the artifact is done with her, no matter what it takes.
Bad Panther is a very different kind of story, it’s a cross between paranormal, science fiction and fantasy with a super hero thrown in. The characters are strong, captivating and easily draw readers into their story while fascinating them with all of the different elements. The romance between Axel and Sugar is full of electrical chemistry and steamy passion. The attraction is there and the relationship is building but the artifact may be an obstacle they can’t overcome, or maybe it’s all the people that would love to get their hands on Sugar.
The author has certainly created a fascinating world – one that challenges world views and is full of snark, fun, adventure and a unique, refreshingly different story plot. The suspense and excitement builds throughout the story ensuring that the readers remain engaged throughout, never have a dull moment and definitely want more of mysterious world.
Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review. I was disappointed with this paranormal romance. it started out interesting enough with Sugar discovering a rare artifact that binds with her and gives her Athena strength. The hero is forced to protect her against those that want to own it. While I liked Sugar's quirky personality her chemistry with the hero felt forced and flat. He claims not to form romantic attachments and thinks she's plain then suddenly he's all over her declaring his feelings not soon after meeting her. It just felt rushed and superficial.
Okay, this book made me laugh, with the title and the first bits of the story. It’s always a hoot to suspend ‘normality’ and jump into a different world. I wouldn’t even know where to begin to describe the story but know that it is about alien artifacts, shifters, aliens, humans…all rolled into a plot to take over the world! Or not. Depends upon who you ask. I loved Dr. Sugar Lee Jennings, the first “human” we meet, and she quickly gets into trouble of the alien kind. She is such a strong character, and snarky as all get out, that it is hard not to love her. The “Bad Panther” in the title is Prince Axel of Rodu. You’ll have to read the story about where he’s from and what he can do for Sugar as I can’t even begin to say.
Love the secondary characters, too, especially Max (Maxwell). He quickly bonds with Sugar, after they meet, and becomes most important to her and to Axel. Axel is clueless, most of the time, although he is a formidable warrior and generally a good guy…buried under the ‘royal spoiled brat’ thing, of course! His attitude often gets him into trouble with Sugar but ultimately, their bond is what saves them both.
Hearing Sugar think in terms of ‘geek-speak’ had me chuckling throughout. And Axel always made me smile. I’m looking forward to what comes next because I’m sure the author must have another crazy idea kicking around for another story. Can’t wait.
Bad Panther by Donna McDonald Alien Guardians of Earth #1
Introducing a new paranormal fun-filled action-packed series with shifters, ancient relics, aliens, romance and a whole lot more. This book begins the quest to find two more “blades” and the hosts they will reside in while telling a bit of the history of the two “blades” already found. Dr. Sugar Jennings is an intelligent, strong, curious woman who gets a bit more than she bargained for when searching in a cave one day. When she meets Axel her life changes...and so does his. I am curious about Maxwell, a wolf-shifter, and wonder if he will show up in future books of this or another series and have a feeling some of Axel’s siblings may have their stories told, too. Perhaps we will hear more about Axel’s parents and their backstories as the story unfolds as they seem rather interesting and pertinent to the story, too.
Did I enjoy this book? Yes Do I want to read more in the series? Yes
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
Bad Panther is a sexy, sometimes silly sci-fi/paranormal romance. Prince Axel Rodu is an alien/human hybrid panther shifter who has a reputation as a heck of a warrior and something of a manwhore. Dr. Sugar Jennings makes the whole story for me. Despite her unfortunate name Sugar is extremely smart and driven. When she finds an ancient alien artifact people come out of the woodwork to take it from her by any means necessary which means she needs help keeping herself safe. Enter “Bad Panther” Axel Rodu. I enjoyed this romp.
Archaeologist, Dr. Sugar Jennings merged with a powerful artifact. People are trying to kill her to get it. Will Bad Panther become her purr-fect guardian?
A fantastic read with some great characters. I loved the story. I loved the cover. I loved how sugar/the artifact spoke. Read in 1 sitting. I'm looking forward to the next book. 5*.
It was unique. I never read anything like this. I feel bad for the main character. She had to deal with a lot of stuff. I love the characters interaction with each other. I love the ending. I would to read it if you love romance and paranormal/shapeshifters.

NEW SERIES!! Great characters and Plot. Dr Sugar Jennings searches for an artifact but....WHAT HAS SHE GOTTEN when it is found? Blackouts, and Death must be controlled with the help of Panther shifter Axel Rodu. Look forward to more in this series and to see more of the Rodu Royal Family. "A copy of this book was provided by author with no requirements for a review. Comments here are my honest opinion." CAN NOT WAIT FOR ALIEN GUARDIANS OF EARTH #2
I loved this story. It is the kind that you can identify with the characters and immerse yourself in the story. Very well written and characters to win the heart make this book a must read.

This is a great story by Donna McDonald. This is the first story that I have read by this author and I can't wait to read more by her. I am looking forward to reading more in this series. I couldn't put it down.
Sugar is an archeologist who is look for an ancient artifact that no one else believes exist. Something strange happened when she did find it. She is now on a race to figure out what is going on within her and running from people that are after her. Axel is tasked with finding her and protecting her. Will they be able to figure out everything before it's too late?

This is such a fantastic story I enjoyed it immensely. Sugar is an archeologist she is searching for the Third Cave of the Beringians and she found it and one of Athena’s Ancient’s Blades was in the cave and it was calling to her whispering in her mind come and find me and she did. The knife was in a glowing box and Sugar was so happy she had done a happy dance, she took the blade out then it exploded in her hands then her chest was in pain and then she passed out. When Sugar woke up she’s lost part of her memory she thinks that she was hallucinating thinking that she found the knife but it’s no where around, little does Sugar know that her life is about to change for the deadly. Axel’s mother queen Nyomi came for a visit she needs Axel to do something small for her and Axel laughed his mother never wanted anything small done and she gave him the look, she told him the Senttinent Blades has been found but Axel thought that it was a myth but it’s even worse because the blade was supposed to go to a warrior like himself so how can a mere archeologist bond with the knife?. Nyomi is sending Axel to be this woman’s bodyguard and to help her learn to use the power of the blade. Nyomi tells Axel that this woman is more powerful than him and Axel scoffs at the idea a woman more powerful than him his arrogance knows no bounds. Wow what a fantastic story I enjoyed it immensely and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

Sugar is a archaeologist and an ancient earth historian when she locates an artifact it accepts her as a host. Once it becomes known that she has the artifact her life is at risk. Everyone that captures her doesn't have great results. The artifact protects Sugar from all the people out to hurt her. When she knows that she can't keep surviving on her own she looks for help which leads her to Axel. Axel works on cases that the agency can't handle so when Sugar comes to them Axel has already gotten word about her and is on his way for her. Axel takes her back to his place which is secure and starts training her on how to protect herself. Sugar makes sure the artifact knows not to harm Axel or Max. But when he place gets ambushed will Axel be able to keep her safe? What will happen to Sugar and the artifact?
This is a great story once I started it I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between them is off the charts hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Bad Panther is the first in a new series, Alien Guardians of Earth by Donna McDonald. Earth, space and alien planets are all represented in this story as well as humans being the host to powerful artifacts. From the beginning there is action and mystery surrounding Dr. Sugar Jennings, especially now that she is host to something of power that is sought by many including the shifter Axel. The interaction and relationship between Axel and Sugar is entertaining, humorous and fun to read. While insuring that she lives is the heart of the story, their romance is what kept me reading. Working out their differences is great fun to see. These two are perfect together, even somewhat mirroring Axel’s parents’ relationship. A wonderful first story in what should be a long live series. Donna McDonald brings all her strengths of storytelling, humor and creating delightful, interesting characters to Bad Panther (Who is also so good!!). 4.5 Stars The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own

Finding out the person you love is an alien panther shifter is one thing. But when the one you love up and leaves you with his parents and doesn't even hang around to explain why or call to see how you are doing, is a whole other thing! Being the host to a sentiment blade crafted tens of thousands of years ago, means life will never be dull and safe again for Dr. Sugar Jennings. Her only safety comes in the guise of one bad ass alien panther shifter who has issues with committing himself to one woman. Oh, and he just happens to also be the heir apparent to throne of the Lyrans, an alien race whose task is to protect earth! I've always enjoyed Donna McDonald's writing. Full of humour and sarcasm, her characters don't take it slow and easy in keeping things interesting. You jump in with both feet from the very beginning and only when you've finished the last page of each of her books, do have a chance to come up for air!
Sugar Jennings is an archeologist who finds, and merges with, a powerful ancient artifact. I liked Sugar. She was snarky, intelligent, and could still joke around in her situation.
The hero is not my favorite. Axel doesn't really respect women. He doesn't see them as equals or capable of being warriors. When he first meets Sugar he describes her as plain and not at all tempting for him. He abruptly changes his mind once he sees her in battle mode with the artifact. Their relationship just felt flat and superficial.
The concept of this future Earth was a fascinating but I felt it needed some more work. It would be detailed in some parts of the story and then others very vague. This caused some confusion and made me struggle to enjoy the book, on top of not enjoying the hero.
Bad Panther was fun to read, and is the beginning of a really exciting series called Alien Guardians of Earth. Because it is the first book of hopefully many, you can of course read it as a stand alone, but it will make you want to read all the books by Donna McDonald in this series!
Story-wise, this is a fairly well constructed story. An easy read that will make you want more. The science fiction bits are fun, but don't have much to do with any science, but really, the story is engrossing enough that it's not anything that will keep you from enjoying the heck out of this book. The romance is delightful, if awkward at points, which honestly is not really different from real life romance. I loved reading the quirky banter between characters and you can bet I'm reading the rest of the series as fast as I can buy them!
Sugar is an archeologist and Earth historian. She is searching for Athena’s blade, a very old artifact. She discovers a gold box in a cave. When she touches it, the box opens and a blade is it it. It merges with her and she must stay ahead of the people wanting to possess her power. She tries to find someone to protect her but no one will, until she meets Axel. Axel is a rogue panther shifter and also the heir to the Lyrans, the Alien Guardians of Earth. He is a playboy, never staying with a female too long. There is something about this female that has his panther panting. Can he keep her safe from the ones that wants to take her power? Good story with action and sex. Funny and bloody. * Voluntarily read and reviewed this for NetGalley *
Well written fast paced story full of action, humour and steam
This was such a fun read! I have to say I giggled, outright laughed or rolled my eyes all through this book. Sugar was so spunky and sassed like crazy - even at herself ;) And yes, Axel was very much a player with not a lot of respect for the idea of women warriors, despite his mother being one. However, his eyes got well opened after listening to his mother about why she was queen and interacting with Sugar. Her plain features ceased to matter after her mind engaged him and he could see the draw of having a soul mate. Of course, there's also a ton of danger, action and some gross piles of remains woven around the highly entertaining journey to an HEA for Axel and Sugar and I highly recommend it!
Switch off "normal" and jump right into madness, mayhem, and shifter alien royalty. Sugar has a theory and when she gets one of those, they can take over her life. She soon lands in trouble of the alien variety and falls into the sexy claws of Axel.
It was a really good story with great main characters. Some of the secondary characters were almost stealing the show, especially Max. I loved learning more about Axel's back story and his parents are an absolute hoot! You'll want to slap Axel occasionally as he hides his inner good guy under a thick layer of jackass!
Sugar is the worst name! You immediately think airhead, saccharine sweet dummy but this Sugar is smart, crazy smart and I enjoyed the way she sparked off of Axel.
Bad Panther by Donna McDonald is the first book in the Alien Guardians of Earth series. In this book, an archeologist named Sugar finds an alien blade named the Protector. The Protector blade begins to merge with her which causes her all types of problems and causes all types of people to try and capture her to gain access to the blade. During the search for someone to keep her safe she meets Axel, a Lyran prince who is a member of a group of aliens who are the Lyran protectors of Earth. This is the beginning of a fascinating story full of danger, exciting adventure, and a compelling love story between two very different people who are meant to be together. I loved reading this story with its compelling characters and unique plot. Bad Panther is a phenomenal human alien love story.
I received this book via NetGalley and have agreed to leave my honest opinion.
Sugar is an Anthropologist who comes across an Artifact that has implanted itself in her body. Now others want to kill her and she needs protection. Axel is the answer to that. Axel is a Prince, heir to the Lyran throne on earth and also a panther shifter.
Sugar is an interesting character but Axel....I just don't know. He is arrogant to the max but I have to point out that he is an Alien not a human and doesn't understand the emotion of humans. The problem is...I don't feel a real chemistry between the characters nor do I feel like I know much about them, especially Axel.
I don't think I will be involved in the search for the next Artifact...
She found an ancient blade.. It wanted to be found.. Once she picked it up, it decided she was worthy.. She is constantly being attacked by people who want the powerful artefact for themselves… it defends her without her knowledge until she asks it to stop making her sleep while it takes control of her body.. it acts surprised When she gets help to keep her safe while she works out what it wants, she tells it that her protector is not the enemy, and to include him with her when it starts to kill people who threaten her.. He finds the ideal place to keep her safe and she discovers someone else has found a blade similar to hers.. Together they find out the blades want to be together.. but two are still missing Very interesting start to new sci-fi fantasy

With Donna’s signature snark Sugar is a joy to follow in her metamorphosis into a new being. She’s really smart if not a beauty but her archeological background doesn’t make her a geek in all matters so her interactions with the new found aliens is also so intriguing. Especially Axel, who is not exactly what he’s made out to be.
Needless to say I was mesmerized with the mythology. This tale has just enough action blended in with a cool sci-fi storyline and romantic chemistry. I like that we get different POVs giving us an overall perspective, my preference. If you’re a sci-fi loving, geeky girl like me don’t miss this unique series.
Never ask an alien panther/warrior/man to fall in love or be romantic ..they have no idea how. Never touch a shiny box if you are on an archaeologic expedition or you may get more than you bargained for !!!! If you do any of these things watch out for fireworks and be prepared for the adventure of several lifetimes. A quirky well written story, the start of a series of adventures that may make you rethink your attitude to cats and curiosity
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a quirky quick read that is totally different to anything I have ever read before I am now looking forward to more stories in this series
Dr. Sugar Jennings isn't only an archaeologist but she is one of the two blades on earth after one of the sentient blades bonds with her after she enters a cave. Will he be able to keep her safe and what happens when he finally meets her Will they form a bond will he keep her safe or will he live up to his name of The Bad Panther
