A dutiful daughter…a Highland warrior…and a madman desperate for a rich bride…
Claudine Epsworth, shy but impulsive, is the daughter of the earl of Estridge, and well knows her place and duty as bidden by her father. Her brother Reid is serving in the military, and though she misses him, she must follow her father’s instructions though he seems a trifle less in touch with reality than usual. Now he has hinted that she is to be promised in marriage to a man she barely knows, though his looks are not undesirable. First, she is sent to Scotland, her father saying it is for her protection, as war threatens on the not-so-distant horizon.
Highland Warrior Arrives
Handsome and brave Brogan McRae, leader of the clan McRae, is visiting the home of Douglas and Marguerite, his neighbors and allies, at Duncliffe Manor. They have business to discuss, namely the threat of battle on their adjoining properties. He never intended to fall in love with their new houseguest instantly. Putting aside his feelings, for he’ll never be hurt that way again, he vows instead to protect her from a sense of danger he feels when another new houseguest arrives.
An Unexpected Threat
A cruel man named Dunstan South, her father’s choice as her husband, has made the daring move of following pretty Claudine to Scotland, ostensibly for her protection. A feeling of unease at his presence is quashed to some degree, but Claudine cannot shake it completely. When his abusive and rude nature is finally exposed for all to see, she knows that she cannot marry him, but can she really go against the wishes of her father? After all, a seer has told her to follow her heart, and obviously that means she cannot choose South…right?
Fighting for Love
After an unexpected illness, Claudine learns that she must run away, and soon, as Dunstan has threatened to carry her off into a forced, miserable marriage. She takes almost nothing with her, but when she’s almost caught, an unexpected savior arrives in the nick of time. Brogan will accompany her to her brother’s station, but twists and turns along the way set in motion a series of events that will change their lives forever!
Can Claudine defy the hinted decree of her father—shirking her family duty—and follow her heart instead of her head when it comes to choosing her destiny? Or will she choose duty and risk a miserable marriage to an abusive, cruel man?
Will Brogan find a way to help Claudine escape a loveless, violent marriage—regardless of whether it leads her to himself—or is the past that haunts him still doomed to repeat itself?

Lady Claudine was introduced to the gentleman that her father wanted her to think about marrying him. He then sent her to Scotland her cousins Marguerite and Douglas. When she arrived they had a guest by the name Brogan, Laird McRae. Lady Claudine was not comfortable around Brogan for he had long red hair a beard and wore a kilt after she had been there for a couple of days Dunstan, Baron South the man who Claudine father had introduced her to as a possible husband. He was very rude man to every. And decided to force Claudine into going home with him whether she wanted to or not. She got upset about this and went outside the garden where it rained on her she got sick. Brogan helped nurse her back to health. After the doctor said she could get up and walk around he walked her out to the garden and back into the house where Dunstan told her that he was leaving in the morning and she was going with and she had no choice in the matter. To find out what happens and how things end up you have to read the book its very good book and should give you hours of reading enjoyment.
Claudine is the daughter of Lord Estride, who is English and lives in England. But he is a Jacobite and things are beginning to heat up. He has decided to let her marry Baron South and eight Earl of Halsfield, Dustan. She feels that her father will have his way, but not till they decide who gets the throne. So he has made provisions for her safety. Douglas, the young Earl of Duncliffe, was Claudine's cousin in law. Her cousin was Marguerite, her family had moved to Scotland to find refuge and she married Douglas. Brogan is Laird of the McRae clan and ally to Douglas. Claudine was being sent to him for sanctury and to get her spying for her father. There are a lot of characters in this story but they are great and well developed. The plot has a lot of twists and turns, thankfully the author is good and holds all the strings together and makes them interesting. The book was very hard to put down and i loved it. The banter between the characters is fun and informative. I received this ARC from the author and voluntarily reviewed.
This is the sixth of the Duncliffe Castle series. Claudine is sent to visit her cousin Marguerite now married to Douglas, the young Earl of Duncliffe. She arrives to be introduced to Brogan McRae, the Laird whose property adjoins Douglas' as they make defensive plans for the expected war. She is initially put off by him with his long red hair, beard, and kilt exposing his legs. But she also sees instances of tenderness. Within a couple days a visitor from England shows up-Dunstan South her father introduced her to as his choice for her to marry-and immediately is rude to Brogan and bossy to her. A few days of activities such as riding with neighbors and a ball as this type of behavior continues, Claudine must escape Duncliffe and of course, Laird McRae is right there to help. Adventure, deep friendship leading to love, and run ins with soldiers make a great story! Another great Duncliffe story!
Family before self and love. Duncliffe Manor gets an unexpected guest. Lady Claudine has been shuffled off to stay with her cousin Marguerite and her husband Douglas. When she gets to Duncliffe, they have another guest, Laird Brogan McRae, a neighbor. Lady Claudine from England and Laird McRae in his kilt are immediately both suspicious and attracted to one another because of their differences. Claudine gets a surprise visit from Lord South, the man her father has chosen her to marry. Tension begins as Claudine notices how arrogant and rude Dunstan is to Brogan. She realizes that this is not the man she thought she knew in England. She must find a way to get away from him before he forces her into marriage. Read to discover if Brogan can save Claudine or she falls into the unkind hands of Dunstan Snow. I received this as an ARC book, and am not obligated to post a review for this book. The review and opinions expressed are my own.
This is the story of Claudine,a cousin to Marguerite of Duncliffe. Claudine is sent to stay in Scotland for safety by her father,a Jacobite sympathizer. Claudine's father had become friends with Dunstan South and more or less planned to marry Claudine to him but didn't make it a legal issue. She meets a huge Scottish warrior who is a visitor and neighbor to Marguerite and Douglas. Then she is surprised by Dunstan South showing up to visit. There are threats made to her by Dunstan and she decides to run away to find her brother who is a soldier on the borders. Brogan McRae, the neighbor, stumbles upon her as she is attempting to run away and he comes to her aide. What will happen to her?? Does she escape a forced and loveless marriage to Dunstan? This is a wonderful, clean story that I recommend all who love Highlanders read.
Arranged marriage, I wonder how any woman could survive such a thing. I know, love can grow, given a chance, but men of the 18th Century, especially of the upper class, appear to treat women worse than their brood mares. I am thankful, I was not born in that era. Although, only today, I came across a man that had gone back to his home country, to check out the selection of girls his parents had presented as prospective brides. So, have life really changed for some cultures? Anyway, this book has that type of theme, but the contract never signed. However, the prospective groom appears to need the dowry such a union would give him, regardless of the feelings of the young woman involved. Luckily, there are some truly gallant men around, ready to shelter and protect, in true Highland fashion. An awesome read!
Claudine's father has introduced her to the man he has picked out for her to marry, Dunstan South, Earl of Halsfield. He has also informed her he is sending her to Scotland to stay with her cousin Marguerite for her own safety. He thinks there will be war. Upon arrival, she meets Laird Brogan McRae. Because of his appearance she thinks he is a brute. In a few days South shows up and shows his true colors. He is rude and threatening. This starts events that will change the lives of Claudine and Brogan. Get a copy and come along on this ride. Experience the suspense, danger, betrayal, fear. This story is well thought out and well written. I voluntarily received a copy of this book and I'm voluntarily posting a review. My opinion is entirely my own.
Sewsummore 4.0 out of 5 stars A Man to Marry January 31, 2019 Format: Kindle Edition Claudine is sent to visit her cousin in Scotland for safety in troubled times. There she meets Laird Brogan McRae, a man she finds uncouth and bad mannered. While there she is visited by the man her father wishes her to marry. I did not enjoy this book as much as previous books. I thought Claudine was an insipid young woman without depth of character, prone to making hasty judgments which proved wrong in the end. I received a free ARC copy of this book and have voluntarily read and honestly reviewed this book
Emilia Ferguson brings excitement and adventure to her Blood of Duncliffe series and The Highlander’s Runaway is no different. I found with each chapter you found a new type of excitement and emotion. Highlander’s Runaway brings you to a time long ago that had clans and fighting among countries, but also love that crossed that divides them. This is a book you want to keep reading and not put down until you have finished it (even though you want to shake the characters and tell them to quit jumping to conclusions!).
Delightful Highland Tale! Betrayal, fear, danger, hope and romance abound in this well-written story. Claudine and Brogan are strong, independent characters who feel an attraction almost from the beginning. When danger threatens Claudine, Brogan steps up to rescue her. Will their attraction grow stronger, or will Dunstan manage to separate them? This book kept my interest from start to finish. Well worth the read.
Another great well written story in the Blood of Duncliffe Series. This is Claudine Epsworth the daughter of the earl of Estridge, is sent to Scotland by him. She is at Duncliffe Manor the home of Douglas and Marguerite. When she meets Brogan McRae, leader of the clan McRae. But the man her father has said she is to marry comes, Dunstan South is a cruel man. The twists/turns, suspense, drama, and romance made this a really good story.
This was a very good read. Claudine is a brave young woman that tries to obey her dads wishes. The man he wants her to marry turns out to be not the man he pretends to be. Brogan has been hurt and so he is cautious. Sparks fly around them. Once you start it is hard to put down, so work first then enjoy this great book.
Another terrific story in this great series. This time Claudine comes to Scotland to stay with her cousin till her father sends for her, upon arrival she meet Brogan. It is filled with adventure, action, mystery, great characters and worth the read. I received a free copy and voluntarily choose to leave a review.
If you are looking for a story that has suspense, danger and is Romantic this story is for you. A very quick read, page turner. All I wanted to do was get to the next page to see what will happen . I was not disappointed.
I received a free book and voluntarily chose to review it. It amazes me how authors can give us new story lines. I have a very strong woman who solves a problem for herself.
It was a good read. I could not put it down the only thing I would say I did not understand was why Dunstan left then the frist time. But all in all a good read
