With a dangerous young sorcerer and his dragon on the rise to power, can two unlikely companions stop him from taking control of Kartania?

When Theodor is forced to join the king’s army in response to the attacks led by Merglan and his deadly dragon, the simple farmer’s son meets an unlikely friend. While trying to pass basic training with his head down, Theodor meets Ivan, a young man clouded by secrecy. Ivan attempts to inspire Theodor into becoming more than just another body to fill in front lines.

After completing their training, Ivan and Theodore each report to their separate assignments, and must part ways. After battling Merglan and his orc armies for nearly two years, Ivan and Theodor reunite. Combining human and elf armies, Ivan and Theodor attempt to prevent the enemy forces from flooding into the last remaining free kingdom in Kartania, the kingdom of the elves. If the elf kingdom falls, Merglan will take control of Kartania for good? Can Theodor and Ivan stop Merglan and his dragon from taking over the world?

Dragon Wars: War of the Magicians, is the first book in the Dragon Wars fantasy adventure series and prequel to Bond of a Dragon’s series starter, Bond of a Dragon: Zahara’s Gift. First of all, I got a copy for free for Kindle. I am so not used to reading e-books so it took me a long time to finish the book.

I quite enjoyed the book overall. The cover of the book and title was really interesting and I did not realize it was part of a series. There are many cliche fantasy elements but the writer managed to combine them into a story that is interesting. The idea behind Merglan's character was well-thought but not well-executed in my opinion. Ivan is more like an almighty genius protagonist and Theodor is more of a sidekick but also a protagonist in his own story. I liked the character development of Ivan, to be honest.

The beginning of the story is interesting but for about 2 or 3 chapters it is stretched (The whole army training part) until you get some action. After that, there is almost always continuous action. The ending is okay but you have to remember that this is the first of the series. Without further ado, it is not perfect and there are some minor problems. However, it is still enjoyable and I would like to continue reading the series.

A J Walkers preview, War of the Magicians, the first book in his Bond of a Dragon series is a really enjoyable book, I just flew through it. The two main characters are young men who meet at an army training camp after their King is murdered by an evil, dragon riding, magician. The book is easy to read, the story flows smoothly and there is plenty of action with sword fighting, dragon riding and fishing. I picked up this book from a free site and think it’s a great start to a new series, I can’t wait to read the rest, it’s a clean read and suitable for teens to centenarians. Grab a copy and enjoy.

Even if there are several good ideas in this book, the plot and the world-building could have been much more interesting. The rhythm is too quick, like it was an hastily written abstract. Honestly, it is not the best ad for the next volumes. A prequel must expose or explain a psychological dilemma, for example. And it takes time to introduce a complex story in order to have strong characters after. Little mistakes made things worse. The author could have remember all of his dragons's colors, for example... Dragons are important in this type of novel.

Dragon Wars: War of the Magicians is Book 0 in the Bond of a Dragon series. This is a great beginning to a new series. It provides detail about the background for the stories to come. It follows the events of two men as their journey's begin. Would have liked more dragon detail. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it. I am looking forward to the next book to see where we're going and the adventure to come. Received an ARC and this is my voluntary and honest review.

This is an enjoyable story. It is very "wordy" for most of the story but is setting the background for the series, I think. Not a whole lot about the dragons so hopefully the other books in the series have them in a more prominent role. I do want to read more in the series. I received a free copy through Book Funnell. This is my voluntary, honest opinion.

The start of the war caused by the revenge of Merglan against the King. Theodor and Ivan future leaders in the army against Merglan meet at the training center for future soldiers. The future does not seem bright but everyone has to make sacrifices. well worth reading

Wish I had read this one first as it contains all the main characters I encountered in the second book. Loved the storyline and at times felt involved in the plot.
A. J. Walker has an engrossing series here which I suspect anyone who loves fantasy reads would enjoy.
