The cover alone was enough to put the shits up me!! And yet I was super excited to read this one!!
Add in the authors note below that once it arrived on my kindle I said goodbye to life and inhaled this.

Authors note ➤ This is another reminder that it is not a romance book. There is no HEA. There is a conclusion. It is emotional and there are triggers.

LATER: So I’m sitting here minutes after reading ‘THE END’ with tears running down my face.

A few times I had to put this aside and breathe through it, like a dark heavy cloak of unfairness, the life Curtis was subjected to broke me in so many ways I lost count, a dead man walking waiting for this life to finally be over with, and whilst reading his story I connected with him, I wished for a better life for him, but sadly that’s not how this story goes.



There were so many wrongs in this book. And it all started with his parents. I can not for the life of me say one thing nice about his mother, sailor words are screaming through my mind but still they aren't despicable enough to describe her. She was on a whole new level of pure evil.

The injustice of what Curtis endured not only for a few days but throughout his life had my heart cracking.

You could empathize with him after so many beatdowns you could fully understand why he broke, because surely it was bound to happen. I don’t condone what he did like no one would but you can’t help but also feel deep sorrow for him.

This story was a train wreck, an emotional roller coaster that had me begging to be let off, I didn’t want to feel any more.

This is a real hard book to recommend because there is NO ROMANCE AT ALL!!
There’s not even a unicorn farting glitter!!
There will be some hard limits for some BUT if you’re a sick puppy like me and LOVE your boundaries pushed then YES prepare yourself for one CLUSTERFUCK of a fucked up, sick twisted, gut wrenching, emotional read!!
Because this book will bring it!! This author literally broke my heart and didn't even stay around long enough to fix it!!

This book ticked all my dark twisted little boxes and then some it went where not many authors are brave enough to step. Soooo the question is. How brave are you?

This book was something... I wasn’t expecting it and I certainly wasn’t prepared for this.
Every story always has two sides, and this one left me thinking a lot about it.

Not that I agree with what happened, quite the opposite, it is completely inexcusable. However, following the steps and knowing the factors that unfolded and led to this was heartbreaking...

I accidentally came across this book... The cover intrigued me and the blurb pulled me in... but it was really NOT what I expected!!!!!!! 😱

I'll admit, it is hard for me to connect with characters who do extreme acts of violence - I knew what his sentence was, but I didn't know what he actually did... so I really liked that Curtis didn't try to justify his actions... He was torment because of them. 😭

The plot jumps from past to present - from age 6 to adulthood. This is not a sweet story, it's dark with harsh descriptions (Note: this is NOT a novel of any kind!!! This is a dark psychological thriller!!! 🖤) about an innocent child who has been humiliated, bullied, neglected and experienced violence from his parents (especially his fuc#%$ mother), kids at school and from the only girl he ever loved... And that made him became who he is - a man pushed to the edge. 💥

This book broke my heart!!! I didn't know what he did that got him to death penalty, but as I progressed with the plot, I think I would agree to help him with whatever he decided to do to avenge his damn life, against everyone who did him wrong... and there were so many of them!!! 😭💔

There is no romance, only a presentation of his life in the most real way possible - like watching a documentary. 🖤
The book proved how easy it is to break an innocent soul... how important it is to keep children from bullying and violence.
I wish it was only an imaginary plot, but unfortunately, just recently something similar happened in Texas... 🤐🤐🤐

It is not a novel and it is not an optimistic story, it doesn't have a love story, so it's not for everyone! 💣 I think the writer's goal was to shock, raise awareness and leave a mark - and she certainly succeeded... because there is no way I will EVER forget this book! 💔

To be honest, I was mad at the world when I started reading... and according to my shitty mood, this book was just on time for me! 😂
So if you ever wondered how an innocent child becomes a dangerous man and if you want to hate all humanity (LOL)... you have to read this book!!! 😱

This was truly a 🅷🅴🅰🆁🆃🅱🆁🅴🅰🅺🅸🅽🅶 💔, sad 😭, and єχтяємєℓу difficult book to read. 😡 A tale of a 𝖉𝖊𝖆𝖙𝖍 𝖗𝖔𝖜 inmate and what lead him to be there. 🏢 It is hard for me to 🅡🅔🅥🅘🅔🅦 this book. 📚 The writing was great. 👍 It is a fairly short book, so I whizzed through it. 🌀 The plot was engaging and bᏒᎾᏦᎬ mᎽ hᎬᎪᏒᏆ SO many times. 💔 What Curtis did was 🅘🅝🅔🅧🅒🅤🅢🅐🅑🅛🅔, but at the same time a part of me felt like some 𝓹𝓮𝓸𝓹𝓵𝓮 got what was coming to them. 🔪 Saying I e҉n҉j҉o҉y҉e҉d҉ this story feels wrong. 🙈 However, this story ₲Ɽł₱₱ɆĐ me from start to finish and deserves all 🌟🌟🌟🌟 I am giving it. 🙌

Life had never been easy for Curtis (Curt) Matthews since the day he was born. He never knew what normal was amidst the chaos he was thrown into. But nothing else mattered when a single moment changed the course of his life.



Let me start by saying this book was not what I expected it to be. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing because it turned out to be more.

My skin wasn’t as thick anymore and my armor was slipping, but I tried to block out the whispering voices. As hard as I tried, they were always there, lingering in the background.

I won’t say much about the story itself, but this book made me so angry and sad with the injustice in life. I loved how the characters invoked my emotions and blurred the line of societal judgment. I enjoyed the overall storyline, but I have to say a certain part of the ending was unnecessary because I felt it took away the gravity of the situation.

You look at me and see a monster, but what I am is a survivor.

Death is a story of defining monstrosity. It would appeal to readers who like to delve in a darker side of humanity.

Curtis Matthews led a life of rejection, abuse and deep loneliness. With a few glimmers of light, Curtis managed to carry on until the tightrope snapped causing him to fall into complete darkness. Though his choices lead to irrevocable and tragic results, he accepts the consequences.

“Where we’re headed, the sun doesn’t shine, the skies are black, and death hangs heavily in the air.”

Divided between victim and monster, the storyline allows for a continual balance between the two characterizations. Much of the book, I empathized with the pain Curtis endured, yet at a certain turning point, there was a shift causing me to deliberate just how to reconcile the tragedy.

“I learned quickly to keep everyone at arm’s length, and no one could hurt me.”

Categorizing the genre of this book is a challenge, as it is not romance but rather a story that reads as a narration of dark fiction. Going into to this one cold is the best recommendation in order to experience the gravity of what occurs.

Death is a story about isolation, abuse and the ability to ultimately find peace.

Wow I didn’t expect to like it so much!! This is dark and raw I was hooked and I didn’t want this to end!

It’s captivating and addictive I felt like I was a part of the story! This isn’t a romance and omg I still loved it because it’s unique and so different from whatever I have read! The author did an amazing job!

"It's a ride with demons that would give the Devil a run for his money."

This quote really is the perfect summary of this book. And if you start reading this book, please keep in mind, that this is no lovestory.

I don't think I've ever read a heavier story than this one. I had to distance myself during reading but now that I've finished, the emotions just spilled over and out of me. If reading was this though I can only imagine what it meant writing Curtis' story. It leaves me all over the place now and my mind is spinning.

"I had scars that clear cut through the bones in my body."

This story deserved to be told, it had to be told. There is so much truth behind this awful reality.

"I was a shell, but inside, there was a boiling rage, just ready to explode."

And it hurts to realize that it's not only the missing laws for handling weapons but it's also the society, the system, the other kids and even worse sometimes the own family (people who should love you unconditionally) that create this chaos. A human being can only handle so much before it breaks. That doesn't excuse the bad and hurtful things they might be doing as a result of it. But this story shows there is so much more beneath the surface than we are led on.

"What you did was not because you're a monster. It was because you're human."

Death is a story that has the ability to break you. It reaches out to you on a deep level, you need to be prepared for. This story is tough and feels real. But most of all it hurt my heart.

I went into this book blind, but was forewarned about the triggers that would be in it. I knew that it would be dark and disturbing. I knew this was NOT a romance. I knew that there was no happy ending. I was prepared for the darkness I was about to dive into.

What I wasn’t prepared for is how much I’d love Curtis. How my heart would ache for him. How enraged I would be at the life that he had to endure. He deserved more from life.

“You look at me and see a monster, but what I am is a Survivor.”

This captures him perfectly. I don’t condone what Curtis did. Even he knows what he did was unforgivable. BUT you see over and over again how society and the system failed this child. Years and years of torment and abuse chipped away at his humanity bit by bit. Once his last thread of sanity was frayed, he broke.

I can’t even fathom the gut wrenching, emotional journey that Radcliff went through when writing this, but she executed it flawlessly. Hat’s off to her because it’s a story that needed told, and she had the guts to write it.

It’s a story of loss, heartache, pain, tragedy and then finally, redemption. It will leave you broken and torn apart with your mind spinning.

This is not an easy summer, at-the-beach-toes-in-the-sand kind of book, but it’s a story worth reading.

This book was a recommendation from a friend, so I dove right in. She didn't tell me I was going to be so emotional—a reminder this is not a romance novel or a HEA. There is an ending and a very emotional one at that. I finished this book with me crying like a baby. There are also many triggers. This may be a book of fiction but could, and I am sure has happened in our world.

Curtis Matthews is a product of his environment and upbringing. As Curtis is pouring his heart, I had to put this book down, breathe, and not kill off a character of two. What Curtis was subjected to by his parents and bullies while trying to protect his brother was disgusting and unthinkable. We see how the child protection systems and schools failed him. There is only so much one person can handle until they snap.
I became very attached to Curtis, Radcliff did a great job on that. I wished for so many things for this character to have had a better life. To see the lightness instead of the dark. To have a better childhood, have different parents. Not to be the Deadman walking.
If you read this book, which I recommend you do. Have tissues by your side.

This isn’t a book for everyone and yet everyone should read it...
This is for those whose voices are ignored, because it’s so much easier to turn the other way and walk away, but ohhh how ready we all are to cast judgement and think we know better. Aren’t we all deserving of love? Aren’t we all deserving of justice? Then why we fail miserably to see the wrong right in front of us?

This is the story of Curtis and how he was failed by everyone starting from the person who gave him life. The pain in here is so raw, I was crying for most of the book. And I kept crying even after I was done reading because Curtis could be anyone facing tragedy alone.

Thank you to this author for writing this story and give voice to the silent.

I hope whoever has to face such pain has the strength to find their voice and find someone who cares.

Death was not my typical read (I have to throw that out there right now) but I do have to say: once I started reading it, I had a hard time putting it down. I think since reading the first set of books from C.M. Radcliff that I had read, her writing (especially for this genre) has improved immensely! That's always a plus for me. Growth.

The story itself was quick paced and sharp. It was told in past and present POV and in my opinion, that fit this story and Curtis perfectly. Especially the way that he tells his story. I liked that he told it in a way that didn't make us wonder what made him the way he was, no holds bar. AND! adding in the reporter's POV was a nice touch as well. 

Not having a HEA was my fave thing about this book. Curtis didn't deserve it. No matter how much I wanted to think that he did, I couldn't bring myself to root for him. Life handed him a shitty hand, true, but he chose to be a product of his past. He had choices-- he chose the wrong one. 

If you like to dip into the dark genre and like to have a quick paced read, I think Death would be a good one for you. It doesn't consume too much of your time and I think the elements inside of the story make it readable in one sitting. At times it's gritty, cringe-y, and hard to read but I think it's what made the story what it was as a whole.

I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I was asked if I wanted to beta-read Death, so it’s fair to say I went in blind. Who am I kidding? It’s C.M. Radcliff, and at this point, I’d read anything she gave me.

This story is NOT for the faint of heart. Deep, emotional, REAL issues are covered within this book. I found myself taking a few breaks when things got seriously intense. And I’m just amazed at how this author could evoke such feelings from me in the space of a short story. It was well-written and the pacing was just right. If you’re reading this, Radcliff, just know that I think you’re crazy. I just want know where you get these ideas for your books from…

So, I am sitting here trying to put together the right words for this story and I can only think of one... heartbreaking!!

I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this but it wasn't at all close to what I had in my mind. I expected darker and it's not that what I got wasn't dark but the telling of this story is done in such a way it breaks your heart the whole way through.

All I wanted to do was save him. All I wanted to do was show him love. All I wanted to do was give him peace.

If you decide to take this journey and I hope you do I hope you get out of it everything I did.

Heart achingly bleak readers should heed the authors warning - this story has no romance, no magic wand to make it all better just the bitter harsh reality of human nature at its most deprived and I loved it even though it ended with tears streaming down my cheeks and the words a blur. A catalogue of failures by those who should protect, nurture and provide. A thousand cuts that caused irreparable damage to a once bright soul. An ending that could have been diverted if only someone had seen the truth and acted upon it before it was just too late. Curtis was born into a life of addiction and selfishness. Raising himself as best he could in a home filled with violence, neglect and abuse he somehow manages to be a care giver to his younger, disabled brother and still sees a glimmer of hope in humanity. One soul shattering life event after another steals his hope, withers his will and leaves him with nothing but disappointment and rage. This is his story of how life conspired to turn an innocent soul into a monster...

This is definitely one of my top reads this year so far. It was emotive and thought provoking without trying to justify or sensationalise Curtis and the choices he made, it laid his truth bare and gave an insight into his troubled mind. His inner strength and purity shone through all the injustices suffered until he fractured, losing his own humanity for just a fissure of time. I was lost to his haunting retelling of a childhood that no one should experience. A life swirling with barbarity, he still tried to be the best version of himself until he couldn’t bear the weight of the cruelty and this captured my attention to the very end leaving me a little crushed. It’s a unique read and one I will definitely be reading again.

A five star mass destruction read.

Heartbreaking and tragic tale !

I was utterly speechless when I finished this book ! This book is one of the most heartbreaking real raw stories I’ve ever read and I won’t ever forget It . C.M. Radcliff’s writing was flawless her execution was perfect this is one of those stories that is hard to read but it needs to be heard . Curtis tells his life story sitting on death row and his tale is one I’ll never forget .

With this story you have to make the decision to step out of a comfort, because this is NOT a romance, a thriller or typical a genre. Be your own judge and label it after you dive in, as you connect with a Monster, Villian or what word will you choose to call him.


As someone who strugles with Sympathy, Author CM Radcliff managed to drain me of emotions only to blend them and bring them all in the end. With a new sense of Empathy I wrote this review to say to any reader, this is a story that had to be told and EVERYONE should experience, however know there is no HEA, if that is what you are looking this is not for you.

Radcliff has built a solid catalog of edgy dark romances, but with Death CM dips her toes into the world of suspense- and delivers a book that's sure to make waves. Radcliff crafts a story that abadons the rose-tinted optimism of Romance but still manages to steal your heart. All the more amazing, CM's words made me feel all the dark depths of Curtis's despair but somehow left me feeling hopeful and inspired. I loved the premise. Death follows the breakdown of a man and the making of a monster. And Radcliff's words tell the story beautifully.

This book was so brutal, it tore me open and didn't sew me back together but I loved every second of it.

While reading this I couldn't stop crying and I messaged a friend and they were like
"You are over reacting, things like this happen everyday"
Well, that's the problem, things like that fucked up shit do happen everyday.
There are life versions of his parents, brother, friends and even him.

And that's exactly how I felt after finishing that, I don't regret it tho.
If you can't read or like dark books then definitely stay away.

I kept seeing reviews for this book and was intrigued so I had to get it. It was dark. Like really dark at times. It wasn't what I expected. It was about a death row inmate. This book had me close to tears a few times. It is definitely worth the read. Seeing the other side of the story was something that I don't think most people think about. Definitely recommend this one. Its a quick read. I had it done in a little over an hour.

Where do I start with this book. From the warning alone I knew it was going to be special and one to remember. I wasn't wrong.
This book delves into things many of us actively choose not to think about and how not everything is so black and white.
There are two sides to every story of catastrophic events. Yes most of the time there is no excuse, but this book invites you to see how people who have never truly been given any form of affection can be pushed too far.
This book will have you on a rollercoaster of emotions and it's one I don't want to get off of.

I expected a dark read based on the title alone. Wow. The title does not do this book justice. This story is filled with so much darkness, I cried, yelled, raged while I read. I could not put this book down. It's hard to write anything about Curtis' story without spoiling it for others. Just know, this is a masterpiece. The story is horrific, haunting and lingers with you long after you finished. You may even need a box of Kleenex or two. I did.
Once again, C.M. Radcliff managed to write a story that not only draws me in, but has stolen a piece of my soul.

Ho...ly...crap!
I couldn't put it down. It's super dark, real, raw, heartbreaking and emotional. Huge props to Miss Radcliff for writing this. It couldn't have been easy.

Truly amazing.
