It's wrong to want her. But I've never been perfect.
We were eighteen when our parents started dating. She was stepping out of the pool. A goddess rising from the water. Beautiful, wet, and curvy in all the right places.
We didn't act back then, but now we're all grown up. And a blind Valentine's date is about to throw us into the fire.
She just stepped into the lion's den. And this lion's hungry.
So bland. So boring. What should have been a quick read seemed to take forever. I could only manage reading a couple of chapters (and we're talking James Patterson-length chapters), then would have to take a break to go do something else to stimulate my brain. Even a game of solitaire was more interesting. The only reason I stuck with this is because I paid ninety-nine cents for this ebook and by God I was going to finish it!
Great story overall but I wouldn’t call this a second chance since Luke and Dixie only actually kissed the decade prior before his father made Luke choose, Freedom in life or prison in his father’s law firm. 10 years later Luke is back and the first person he meets is Dixie at her tourism store. Long buried feelings are rushing back and their need for one another scare Dixie and Luke but he’s to carefree to care what their small hick town thinks while Dixie is scared of gossip and what it’ll mean to her mom and stepfather. Be warned Luke’s father is mean spirited, verbally abusing towards Luke and hides it from his second wife and stepdaughter. Dixie’s ex Adam will be constantly throwing his weight around putting his sneers, lies, blackmail and abuse out in the open. No cheating, no talking about hordes of women from Luke so no playboy bragging. Drama roller coasting from start to finish and there will be chapters throughout where they show their past and how it effects them today.
ONE INTERESTING READ!!! Man, talk about walking the line. Aubrey did an amazing job with this little light taboo storyline with an awesome plot that pulls you in and holds your attention from start to finish. All the drama, uncertainty, fear along with a little suspense make for one incredible experience. Twists and turns abound with unexpected circumstances that keeps your riveted and anxious as the story unfolds. The chemistry between the two main characters was deep, intense and palpable. The characters are complex and believable with such depth and individuality it's easy to relate. The scenes are so graphically detailed and descriptive you have no trouble picturing each scenario as they play off one another in perfect balance. Remarkable job Aubrey, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
Luke came home to his father's place and sees a gorgeous girls getting out of their pool. All he wants to do is go to her and do all the dirty things going through his head. However imagine his shock when his father introduces her to him as Dixie his new step-sister. Dixie is drawn to her step-brother but because of their circumstances nothing happens between them. Now ten years later they meet up again ten years later when Dixie needs help and Luke knows that he can't let her go again. Can they be together? Will Luke be able to help Dixie with her ex?
This is a great story that will have you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.
It was decent enough to keep me reading through the end, but I probably wouldn’t recommend it to a friend. I thought the dialogue was boring, especially the sex scenes. The storyline had potential, but kind of left a lot to be desired. It’s hard for me to believe that almost every single person in a town is a crappy human. We never really found out more details on Luke’s punishment for the fire, why he and his dad hated each other to the extent they did, what happened with Adam, why Dorian and Janie broke up, and a bunch of other questions that were left unanswered. It kind of felt like a rushed job by a new author to me. I definitely think there is potential to polish the story up, but I just wasn’t feeling it that much in its current state.
What an emotional roller coaster! Luke and Dixie almost had a thing when they were 18 and their parents just married. Fast forward and Luke is still being treated like the rebellious teenager by his father, no matter how well he is doing for their business. Dixie has just gotten out of a controlling relationship and is trying to save her struggling business. When Luke strolls back into her life she tries to keep away, but the heart wants what the heart wants. This has tons of drama, suspense and plenty of passion!! Great read!
I loved this edgy slow burn romance. There is chemistry and attraction between the H and h, but wasn't acted upon as their parents married making them step siblings. Years later, a blind Valentine's date brings these two together once more and the H has every intention of keeping the girl he crushed on when they were teens. Engaging, entertaining, well-written storyline and defined characters make this book a definite must read. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.
A well written second chance romance. It is written in dual POV which gives the reader a lot more of the thoughts and feelings of the main characters. Likeable characters who develops nicely through the story. Two stepsiblings who are attracted to each other. Years after they left their parents house they meet again on a blind date. An enjoyable and easy read.
Dixie and Luke's first meeting wasn't a good one and it never got better. As adults, they are dancing around each other and their attraction for each other. Dixie is having a hard time as Luke is her stepbrother, and she doesn't want people to talk. This book was a good read although at times, it dragged and didn't flow as well.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read.
A good second chance romance for Luke and Dixie. When they first met, it was a bit awkward but the attraction was undeniable. They ended up being step-siblings but that didn't dull the attraction.. Can they get past the critics in their town or will they just give up?? What will happen when an ex of Dixie's comes back into her life to cause trouble?
The two stepsiblings have been attracted to each other since they met, during their high school senior year. They meet again after a decade and are torn between the feelings that are still there and society's expectations. Steamy and emotional.
Wow there’s a lil taboo but this a 2nd chance romance! Luke comes home to a girl in his pool finds out it’s his step sister Dixie they tried to excuse their feelings. Years later they run back into each other can they put these feelings aside?
These people were so immature and miserable. Every last character oozed depression. Even the ending irritated me, why on earth would they choose to stay there that long???
Loved as young adults, later given another chance. It was never a crush. It was love in difficult circumstances with a chance at love later when reunited. It was a great read. Great characters and story. Couldn't stop reading it but sorry to see it end.🐱
This was a great, steamy novel. Dixie irritated the hell out of me throughout the book, but I loved Luke's character and his passion toward her enough to binge this in a couple hours. Definitely looking forward to reading more of Wright's work
Cute story. The authors writing style is awesome. The story was somewhat predictable and sugary sweet. Overall, it was a good read and I’ll definitely read more from this author.
This book was kinda intense. It was light hearted, but it was really good. I wish his father would have gotten some kind of karma at some point. Luke and Dixie have intense chemistry, but are step siblings living in a small judgemental town.
It was ok. Seemed really drawn out to me. So much back drama that kind of overtook the present. She fought against it for so long that it kind of just made me get over it. I needed more current connection. Ok story.
It is very hard to put myself in the protagonist position. The characters seem one dimensional. I was more confused then anything. Apologies for the short review, typing via kindle.
I enjoyed this story. The parents met when the kids were teens and they meet up later so it isn't like the are siblings that lived together as brother and sister..
The development of the storyline and characters was terrific. It will keep you engaged the whole way through. I didn't want to put it down until I was finished.
Wow, this was so angsty! I loved every minute of it. The ending was everything I wanted and so glad it turned out that way. Luke and Dixie were so easy to love.
