I found this story kind of boring. I kept putting the book down and coming back to it. Because I love the author Serenity Snow. Some stones are a hit and then there are these. I just had a hard time finding a connection between Chloe and Darice. Chloe seemed very weak and Darice was just meh 🫤. The whole concocted story of why someone was after her was so thin and convoluted. I didn’t see anything about Darice that anyone would want to kill to have her. All the scenarios were rushed and again…thin.
This Mojo organization is also very confusing. I don’t see the true purpose of them, except the mercenary part and it’s supposedly for those seeking justice that the law will not provide. Whatever. I’ve ready many of their stories in the assassins series. And this one added nothing to it. It just tells a little more about Darice and why she is here. Chloe is just a wilting flower. I didn’t like anything about her. She seemed more dense than sweet and naive.
The whole scene with Marie wasn’t as clever as I am used to Serenity being. No true clever lines or wit. There was nothing much to any of the players in this book.
I love that the assassin characters are back!! Darice and Chloe were introduced in books 1 & 2 of the trilogy so please read those first for a back story on the characters. You will not be disappointed.
