Evelynn Tanner, the local preacher’s daughter, has made one too many mistakes. Apparently, marching into a brothel to confront her unfaithful beau is considered unacceptable behavior for an unwed young lady, and her father has turned her out of his home! Evelynn must now find a means to support herself. Her cousin, Broderick Tanner, is a Pinkerton Agent, and she manages to convince him that she’d make an excellent addition to the agency’s female ranks. After all, Broderick’s wife, Cecily, is a Pinkerton as well.
On the train ride to Denver, Evelynn meets Graham Morgan, another agent – and an irritating one at that. In the midst of an argument, she falls off the back of the train, and Graham selflessly jumps off to save her. Evelynn quickly finds herself falling for this charming protector, but will he be true to her? Or is he really just another dishonest snake like the last man she’d loved?
Evelyn is an interesting character. She is hot and then cold. She is trying to stay strong and Indepedent while hiding the hurt that she feels. She has been hurt time and time again from her judge mental preacher father and at the beginning of this book by her beau. She is impulsive. After being told her beau was headed to the local brothel she barges into the brothel with no thought but to embarrass her beau as much as he embarrassed her. Her father is appalled by her behavior and essentially kicks her out. He turns over responsibility for Evelyn to Evelyn’s cousin, Rick. Rick and his wife, Cecily, are headed to Denver to get another assignment as Pinkerton agents. When Evelyn shows interest in also joining the ranks they agree to take Evelyn with them. Evelyn has an unfortunate first meeting with Graham, another Pinkerton agent. Graham is also traveling to Denver for a new assignment. He likes to banter with Evelyn. When Evelyn gets frustrated with Graham while on the train to Denver she accidentally falls off the train when she is arguing with Graham. Graham jumps off the train to assist Evelyn. Graham appears to be a pleasant man. He puts up with Evelyn’s attitude. He reads people well so he knows how to get on Evelyn’s good side. This is a sweet, clean romance that blossoms between the two. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more in the series.
I love Evelynn! I met her in An Agent for Cecily and thought she had a lot of spunk. I am so glad she got her own book and I think this story was perfect for her. Graham immediately recognizes and appreciates the spunk in this woman and learns to appreciate her other qualities as well. This is a fun series and this was a fun story with plenty of suspense and twists and turns.
The second book in the series by this author. But book 14 in the complete series. And boy did it hit the spot. Fast paced and full of humour. This is one book you do not want to miss. It had me turning pages wanting to know what would happen next. Absolutely brilliant.
I received this as an arc and I am giving my honest review voluntarily
Enjoyed this book immensely! The preachers' daughter was disowned by her father so is traveling with her cousin who is a Pinkerton agent. She meets another agent whom she has words with and finds that he is traveling with them. They have some real adventures together and find that they really like each other. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys clean romance books!
Evelynn has away to get her point across . Graham found he was still interested in being a Pinkerton agent I think Evelynn will be a perfect match for Graham. Was not sure how I felt about her but I enjoyed her character and she will make a great agent
The Pinkerton Matchmaker series is one of my favorite because the characters are uniquely themselves and the stories vary greatly and never fail to deliver excellent entertainment. Having said that I will admit that this is one of my favorite so far. Enjoy 💜
Evelyn has been disowned by her preacher father and turned over to her cousin Pinkerton Agent Broderick. She thinks she'd like to become an agent. Agent Graham Morgan arrives in San Francisco just in time to catch the train with Broderick and his wife. Evelyn and Graham are a bit like oil and water but on the trip to Denver she displays his intelligence and quick thinking through several encounters. But then in Denver there is the marriage part of becoming a female agent. Fun story and characters!
I really liked this book because it was a little different than all of the other books in the series. Most of the book start off with two agents getting married and then they go off and solve cases, but this book was a little backwards, and I liked it. It was a nice change from the typical format of the series, but it still kept with the same feel. A well told story.
Evelynn makes a bad choice in an angry moment. Her father, the local minister, reacts by turning her over to the care of her older married cousin and his wife, who are Pinkerton agents. Before she even boards the train to Denver with them, she has a run in with a man on the platform. To her chagrin, the man is also a Pinkerton agent and is traveling with them. Suffice it to say things go from bad to worse. But while Evelynn and the gentleman, Graham, deal with the situation they learn to depend on and respect each other. There are more surprises in store😀. This is a clean enjoyable story! This author has quickly become a favorite author! I received a complimentary copy of this book and chose to write a review. Be prepared to be entertained!
Evelynn has destroyed her reputation by walking in a brothel to confront her Beau. When she’s cast away by her father she goes with her cousin, who is a Pinkerton Agent, to Denver. Just before taking the train she meets Graham, another Pinkerton Agent, but the first impression isn’t very positive. When something happens on the train they have to find their way to Denver together. And that’s where the adventure starts. Can they at least work together so they can find their way to Denver safely? This is a fun adventures story that is a bit different than the other Pinkerton stories. I really enjoyed all the stories that I’ve read in this series. This author is becoming one of my favorite in the short time I’ve read her books.
Evelyn was a broken hearted preacher's daughter. Her cousin was a Pinkerton Agent as was his wife Cecily. With her hurting heart she decided to join the Pinks too as a way to get over her cheating fiance and her father at the same time. On the train with her cousin and his wife entire to Denver to join she meets fellow agent, Graham. Evelyn falls off the train and Graham jump off after her to rescue her. With several exciting adventures behind them they finally arrive at the Pinkerton office in Denver. Will they be married as new agents must? What does their future hold. This is an exciting adventurous fun and sometimes funny story. You will definitely enjoy reading it.
This story was a little different from the others. Evelynn is a minister's daughter; but she has a firey temper and a stubborn attitude. After chasing her beau into a brothel and confronting him, her father disowns her and gives her to her cousin Broderick and his wife Cecily (from an earlier story). On their way to Denver, Evelynn falls off of the train and Graham, a fellow Pinkerton agent, jumps off after her. Together they try to make their way across the desert to the closest train station, which is miles away. In the meantime they face a couple of challenges that Pinkerton's would normally face and Graham sees what an asset Evelynn would be, not just one the job but in his life.
This book is full of thrills and adventure. From the heroine, a preacher’s daughter no less, causing a ruckus in a house of ill repute, to falling off of a train, Evelynn seems to have a knack for attracting trouble. She also attracts Pinkerton Agent Graham and the journey is highly entertaining. A wonderful addition to the Pinkerton Matchmaker series.
his is the 2nd book of the series I’ve read. Evelynn is a no nonsense woman who gets Graham out of trouble several times with womanly sense which surprises him. She wants to be a Pinkerton agent but can’t shoot. Have to read to learn if/how they get together. Another great book. I received an ARC copy. This is my voluntary opinion.
I loved this book! Absolutely opposite of all other Pinkerton agent series books! Evelynn wants to be a Pinkerton, but will she make it to Denver alive? Graham is re-thinking his agent career. Will he find Evelynn as his reason to stay or to leave the agency? I loved the way these questions were answered. Another great book by Marie Higgins.
Couldn’t put it down! What a great story with wonderful characters. The author made this story fun to read, with action and romance. You will find this book enjoyable and hard to put down! Many more books to read in the Agent series, each one is so good!
If you have read any of the previous books in this series, you will find this one has a wonderful twist to it. If you read Cecily and Broderick’s story, you have already met Cousin Evelyn.
I was disappointed with this story. It broke the mold but not in a way that I enjoyed. Evelyn is a bit of a shrew but all of a sudden she completely changes her character and is nice...And Graham can completely guess her life story despite having hardly talked to her in the short time on the train together....And things are just too over the top with her romance and instant intelligence against bad guys with no training at all... It was nice to see Cecily and Rick at the beginning of the story. The author did a job job with their book, but sadly didn't follow through with this one.
This installment of the Pinkerton Matchmaker books started out funny and witty. I liked how the main characters were introduced to each other before Evie became a Pinkerton agent. The author's writing immersed you into the story. The characters were interesting. However, half way through the story, the plot seemed to be thrown together. That made the story just OK instead of great.
Heartbreaking to hilarious, this book cleverly weaves heartbreak and despair alongside humour, sass, witty banter and sweet love. Graham and Evie seem to lurch from one disaster to another but together they overcome the problems and outwit the criminals, one thing is certain, their lives together will never be dull and boring! I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
I normally don't read short novellas. They always just feel rushed and leave me hanging for more. This book was no exception. I enjoyed the story line. It was a cute and clean romance. It picked up right after An Agent for Cecily and followed those characters and their story... with a couple more added in.
