Beau always dreamed of being a doctor, and despite his family's disappointment, he followed his dreams, becoming a well-known pediatrician. Working in the emergency room, he's one of the few specially trained to face the worst cases against children.
Parson lost his best friend to suicide after foster care failed her. He vowed that he would be the change the system needed and give children the chance that his friend never had.

When a severe case of sexual abuse brings Parson and Beau together, they find they share a passion to make a difference, focused on helping to show the abused children that not everyone in the world is out to hurt them.

As they spend time together, they find that helping children isn't the only passion they share. The chemistry between them is undeniable, and for once, they found someone that isn't only out to take what they can give.

But like any new relationship, there are secrets between them. One so big that it could break them apart before things really gets started. It's only the determination to save the kids that pushes them forward, making them both see that, despite their pasts, the future can be brighter, and together they have twice as much to offer than they do alone.

Uh, this book was very intense and dark...and not in a sexy way. Fair warning--the child abuse story line in this story doesn't pull any punches. It's also takes center stage (the romance is more of an after-thought). It was well-told, but I wish I had realized these details before I committed to reading this story so I could have better prepared myself emotionally.

Great story, and I like the series, but it feels like a bit of repetition on the storyline, I will continue the series at a later stage.

I read Heal the day it came out and I also wanted to review it on that day but sadly I couldn't find time to do so because of one of my finals in college. I originally wanted to wait with reading it after my finals but I couldn't possible wait for that. I have no patience whatsoever.

So here is finally my review.

I really, really liked the previous two books Pain and Secret (highly recommend!) and wasn't quite sure if Heal would work for me because in Pain and Secret the MCs were both part of the active part of the team while Beau is more on the passive part of the team. Color me surprised but I liked it. Not as much as Pain or Secret but that's not because Beau's on the passive part but for a different reason. I'll get to that in a second.

I'll name the positive things first really quick because I always seem to forget to mention the good aspects. It's just so much easier to write about the bad things for me.
Positive thing #1: the writing style sucked me right in from the very beginning.
Positive thing #2: I'm always a sucker for good team dynamics and I absolutely adore the STK team.
Positive thing #3: I love that not every sting of theirs is a total success. I hate reading books where everything always works out to plan.
Positive thing #4: I absolutely loved Parson, he might even now have to share the number one spot with Xander.

So... let's get to the not so positive things for me. I'll go ahead and tell you that I'm giving this book 4 stars but I'm a bit of a nitpicker so bear with me.

The first thing I wasn't much a fan of was Beau's and Faith's relationship. I loved that he was a mentor for her but the whole bff thing was a bit weird for me. I'm sure those relationships can be found in real life, there was just something that made it a bit cringy for me, for example the talking about Beau's sex life.

My next point contains a spoiler so read at your own risk. *SPOILER* *SPOILER END*

Last but not least it's just something I noticed and if I'm wrong let me know, please. Did Parson ever tell Beau why he decided to work in the field he chose? I mean like we as the reader know, hell, even the people who only read the synopsis know this but does Beau actually know? Did they ever talk about that? Beau told Parson his story but did it happen the other way around ... I'm honestly not sure. I'll need to check and re-read the book again but first I'll need to finish my last two finals. *sigh*

Okay, nitpicking's over.

I absolutely can't wait for the next one and the wait won't thankfully be that long. It's supposed to come out by the end of February. Yay, nice birthday present for me.

Definitely not a series for the fainthearted. I like that the kids aren't suddenly emotionally healed and everything hunky dorey. It would be nice if this was of the fantasy genre but unfortunately these monsters live amongst us.

Do you know what it is like to find a series that you fall deeper in love with the more books you read? That is the way this series makes me feel. It deals with horrible things happening to innocent children. The thing is that the abuse is mentioned, but you don't read graphic details of it being performed. If that had happened, I wouldn't have read the series. You do get graphic details of what happens to the people who hurt the children when STK goes after them though. I am a firm believer that what they are doing is making a difference.

This book is a little different in that it deals with a doctor and what he sees at the hospital all the time. You never really stop to think about the effect that would have on a person. I think it would be horrible to know that all you could do was treat injuries but never stop them to start with. Beau is amazing for what he does.

This book just makes me want to read the next. I already looked ahead and found out it was Dyson's turn for a story. He has been a bit of a mystery. It will be nice to finally get to know him.

4.5 stars

This book focused on STK's team doctor Beau, and Parson, a case worker at CPS. Seeing things through Beau's eyes at the hospital (instead of his teammates out in the field) and having the child victims all coming from foster homes this time made the book seem less repetitive than the previous book, but still very emotional because of the painful abuse the children suffered. There are no words.

Even though Beau and Parson made a really great couple, I still kept thinking whoa Nelly! Beau sure moved fast on things. I understood him wanting to foster Lisa and Jeff so they'd have a safe home (not sure starting adoption proceedings immediately after meeting the kids 2 days before is normal), but Beau had one date with Parson and pretty much told him he could see them married and raising the kids together. He's lucky Parson didn't run for the hills. But I guess he knew what he wanted and didn't see the point pretending otherwise. I loved the family they made together though.

One thing I probably stand in the minority on is Beau and Faith. I have no problem with Beau mentoring Faith since she wants to be a doctor and I completely understand why they have a special bond, especially considering how they met. I think Faith is great and she was really important in helping Lisa and Jeff heal. But for a grown ass man to be calling a 15 year old child his best friend repeatedly, and for said child to be asking him about his sex life because as his best friend she felt entitled to that information, was just all kinds of awkward for me. Thankfully Beau knew where to draw the line, but still. At times a little odd. Just my opinion.

I can't wait for the next book in this awesome series. Really hoping it will be Carter but can only imagine how dark the things are that he's seen.

Alot

On my ghee stories are hear wrenching. The extent of abuse that is taking place and the level of abuse some children withstand is always difficult to hear. With that said the author once again did a great job with the storyline and the kids and the effect on the kids. The story was good and the support system for the kids as well.

PLEASE READ FIRST MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings (thanks to amazon I had to change it again and 'upgrade' it a little bit.):

5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-
Away-book like 'Liberty' from Seth King,
'Save the at he kids' series from EM Leya or
'Jesse's Smile' from Angelique Jurd), it's like
an A+

4* - very good and will be often reread and is a
WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises
(like most of Andrew Grey books) it's like an A

3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few
times a year (most romances where you can
enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in
hospitals). I can recommend them definitively!
It's like an B+

3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader,
maybe 2-3 times a year. It’s like a B

2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-
reader (i wouldn't recommend it heartily, but
it was ok). It's like a C-, D

1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too
many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an
absolut NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole
line, dismissed, repeat the class

After book 1, this has become one of my favorites. Now, it’s the mysterious good doctor Beau’s story. This story is a little unusual than a couple romance. It is more about family and not just blood family but family you make. This story also pulls away from the actual stings and into the lives the children. The emotional and physical trauma most definitely wears you down, but in this story, to see how the children heal is beautiful as it also creates a family with Beau and Parson.

Parson who works with CPS, is the real deal in that he wants the best for all children. Who better to be paired up with the Emergency Room Pediatrician. These two have a deeper understanding about each other that no one else who they have dated in the past have understood. You will have to read to find out, but that is a big point for a relationship. I understand why these two quickly fell in love, especially with the children involved.

The real winners of this story were the children, with Beau and Parson coming in second. This was a great addition to this series. I know who I am rooting for for the next book, if I am right then it will be a well-rounded series discovering all aspects of this group which is doing a great justice of human wrongdoing in the world.

The kids stole the show!

You know that feeling when your take a deep deep inhale to ward off the feels that will lead to tears? Well it doesn’t really work with this book. This series will absolutely tear your soul into pieces. It will make you want to take revenge and justice into your own hands.
The only reason I’m giving this 4 stars is because I almost felt like the relationship between beau and parson was a bit forced and somewhat lacking but that might just be because I was more invested in another relationship developing. The relationship between beau and the kids was natural and flowed so beautifully that it was THE REAL HEA in this book. It was what my heart was pulling for since their first interaction.

Heal (Save The Kids Book 3)

This series is tricky. And I love it, hellish parts and all.
Big neon warning on many triggers related to child abuse, all kinds of child abuse. Darkness overtakes everything with that...
That's first.
But then those adorable and strong and loving little warriors will start to heal. First physically then, at a slower pace, mentally. Never fully, I understand, but enough that I can sleep at night after reading these books.

This one was about, ultimately, family. And love, always love. And that was great.

And I'll keep reading 📖

4.5 Outstanding and heart rendering

Love this series about children being saved because this is the reality in our world today. More and more children are being trafficked these days and it’s heartbreaking. Beau ad Parson find each other in this story but something happens which could break their relationship. I thought that the children adjusted too quickly but I understand that for the sake of this story this was moved along. In reality these children suffered and it is not something that goes away quickly.

Outstanding story as always E.M. Leya!

Sad but good, couldn’t put it down

I’ve enjoyed all of these books in this series and they keep getting better and better.

Beau and Parsons were so good together, loved Lisa and Jeff. It was good to see Faith and catch up with the rest of the team members too.

Of course it is a tough subject reading about the kids being abused but luckily there are no graphic scenes and happy endings.

Beau is a familiar face to those that have read previous STK books and I am so happy to see he got this HEA. Parson is new and still so earnest to help the kids in his work while understanding the limitations. As these two grow closer and secrets come out, you will find yourself on the edge of your seat completely absorbed in the book. Another wonderful addition to the STK world.

Beau and Parson made me so happy. Add in Lisa and Jeff and it is perfection. The instant connections and the paths it lead them all down we're brilliant and my heart is so full from this story.

Beau and Parsons are made for each other. Through the whole story, you can feel they are meant to be a family.

They complete each other and have an affinity to bring the best out of the relationship.

Love the integration of the kids making them an invaluable part of the book.

Happy Tears

This series is heavy and each book brings he me to tears, but the HEA's just keep getting better. E.M. Leya writes about the worst of society and the STK team is hard not to love.

I love this series. This book wasn't nearly as involved with dark side of STK as the first 2 books were, but it was still just as riveting. I think the only thing that kept me from giving this 5 stars is the fact that Beau fell so fast. It was almost too much.

The kids in this one stole the show. Loved them 💜💜💜
