International Bestselling Author Anne Mercier brings you a tale of a douche and a dame battling the everyday trials and tribulations found in the halls of high school.
When I’m dragged to a party by my best friends, I don’t plan on having a good time—and I’m not, until “he” finds me alone on the beach. I expect him to be a jerk with looks like him—but he’s not. He’s funny and sweet and we spend hours talking about nothing and everything.
Then he kisses me. And I give myself to him—a familiar stranger with a name as fake as mine—then we say goodbye.
I never planned on seeing him again.
When Shell Beach Hall moves all their classes to Shell Beach Academy, I’m more than a little annoyed. The Academy is full of the snobs I avoid like the plague.
I can’t hide my surprise when I see him again. He can’t hide his derision, accusing me of knowing who he was and using him to gain popularity.
I realize I was wrong about him. He’s a jerk…and I want nothing to do with him.
But he won’t leave me alone. He taunts and teases me. He’s arrogant and a jock who sleeps with any girl he wants. “They should all be so lucky”—his words, not mine.
I’m disgusted. This is who I gave my V-card to? Ugh. I loathe everything he represents and I want to punch him in his pretty bullying face.
So why can’t I stop feeling his hands on my body or hear his sexy whispered words?

...I don't understand why a character I've never actually met had to die?
Kiss This was a typical YA book. In it, you will meet the new rebel kid who doesn't go along with the mean girls rules or anything. There's a mysterious one night stand with someone who could be her person one day but it's quickly ruined when she says that this was a one time thing. Then said guy is a dick who has a regular side piece, aka queen bitch.
Yeah, so that's basically the book. I did like the friendships and shit.. but the using people was weird to me. I have no idea if people actually did this while in high school but yeah, not for it. Then there's the ending thing that just doesn't make sense to me. I get cliffhangers and crap.. but a death was something I wasn't expecting nor do I even understand it. I have no idea what the next book will even hold but I guess I'll have time to sit around and wait for it.
Wow...……………………………………….What a story, absolutely fantastic. I was pulled into this story from the beginning and stayed there until I had read every single word that had been written, all the while watching the mini movie that was playing in my head at the same time. There are surprises both big and small, some you will see coming others you won't, I was trying to guess at some of them but gave it up as I wasn't getting them right, but they all aide in making the book the fantastic read that it is. I felt for the main female character within the story although I have never been shy, I do have friends that are that way and I know how they feel going to a party etc. However I do know what it is like to be a forces brat, as I was one of them and it can be hard to fit in if the people around you don't understand what it is like to have a parent that has to go away for an extended period of time, I also know how it feels for someone you love to end up going to a war zone, you can feel very alone not knowing who you can turn to, as you never know if your friends will understand how you are feeling. The emotions that the characters go through can be felt 100%, some parts of this book will pull on your heart strings. Hear was I thinking I had done so well as I hadn't cried during the cause of the book, who am I kidding I sobbed at the end of the book and I know it doesn't matter how many times I read this book I will cry at the same part every time. Anne Mercier, please don't ever stop putting your words into stories, no matter what the genre is, you have proved you can turn your hand to it and turn it in to something fantastic. I love Anne Mercier books, she has never written anything that I have not enjoyed. She is one of my favourite authors and one that I always 1 click her books. I highly recommend this book even if YA is not a genre you usually read, I don't think you will regret reading this story. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars, as I personally thinking it deserves it.
OMG!!! This was such an awesome book!! I definitely could not put it down as I read it in one night! Jillie is a vulnerable but strong young lady trying to stay true to herself. Leo is the super jock that lets no one know the real him because everyone wants something from him. The interactions between Jillie and her friends is endearing and comical. I love how I could relate to that introvert side of Jillie that struggles when her friends try to bring her out. I was so frustrated with Leo because of him being that guy that follows the crowd and is afraid to let anyone in even if it’s for a good reason. I was devastated at the way he treated her in the beginning before he woke up and realized what he needed. The ending is bittersweet and I am anxiously awaiting the next book!!
Forget what you've read by Anne in the past, because this book blows the rest of them out of the water!!! I was sucked in from page one and I couldn't put it down. It was a refreshing change of pace from the rest of her books. I fell in love with the characters, the story, the heart. I mean what's not to love!! Great job Anne! I can't wait to read book 2!
Oh my wow am I so glad I waited for the 2nd book to come out before I started reading this. After that ending I need it now. This was such a fun quick read and the storyline was on point. I only hope the next book is as good as this one as I'm currently dying from that ending.
When I first opened this book I didn't know what to expect since this was Anne's first YA novel. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized it surpassed my expectations by alot. The humor was amazing and the characters were as well. I love the friendship these people share with one another. If you haven't read this yet your missing out. Oh how this reminds me of high school! Book 2 please don't let me down!
First off, I have to say how much I loved this book! When Anne Mercier announced that she was going to write a YA book, I wasn’t sure I’d like it, because I’ve always avoided those like the plague, but, I read everything of hers, so of course I was into it. Holy crap, it was amazing! It was fun, witty and one that I enjoyed so much that I had to read it as quick as. So, it went to work with me, and the only breaks from the book were work, and the time taken to post my favourite quote on Ms Mercier’s readers group page.
Told entirely from Jillian’s POV, her inner voice was as funny as a fight. It’s been so many years since I was that age, but my thoughts probably weren’t that much different! I knitted jersey’s in class, pissed off the teachers, and I know I went out of my way to cultivate my potty mouth and to annoy hell out of my best friends’ boyfriend, well, just because...
And, I'm pretty excited about this book, so my review probably contains some spoilers!!!! Sorry.
She’s a marine brat, and because her mother died when she was young, she moves around as her father’s postings change, and stays with her mother’s family while he’s on deployment. She’s also typically a quiet and bookish nerd.
This is the first time Jillian has stayed in California with her Aunt Ruthie, and her two new best friends of two months have formed a tight group. Everyone should have friends like Audrey and Isla! Especially two new friends who drag your sorry ar$e off to a beach party where you happen to meet a real life gorgeous fantasy in the form of a local rich kid who actually seems halfway decent!!
Jillie is not keen on name sharing, because she wants this one-night fantasy to stick. After all, after her father’s deployment ends, they’re moving again, and he’ll be at some rich preppy school, and she ... won’t be. She calls him Jack, to her Jill, and a couple of hours later she’s one V-card lighter and as happy as a sand-boy!! Then karma interferes, and some stupid prank has shut their school, so they all have to combine classes with the local snobbish one. Not only that, guess who she sees on the first day, with a sh!tty attitude and the epitome of the rich school mean girl hanging all over him!
In this new school, with her new friends, and after her evening with ‘Jack’, Jillie now has some gumption, and isn’t going to cave under the evil auspices of this (b)!tch! She’s comfortable in her skin, septum piercing and all, and she’s loyal and grounded. I love her, and her friends, as well as the aunt she’s staying with this deployment. This was one fun book to read!!!
Do be aware that this book ends in a cliff-hanger, but there’s only four weeks to wait, and it’s well-worth it, and I’m someone who hates cliffies with the blazing passion of a thousand suns! 4.5 Stars for this great YA read!!!
School life, young love, young hate, mean girls, jealous girls, teenage drama's, it's all covered in Anne Mercier's new Young Adult series Kiss This. Kiss This is a duet and does end on a, to be continued note, but Kiss that follows just a short month later.
Basically, this is the story of a nerdy girl who loves her books, moves areas due to her dad being deployed with the forces and having lost her mother years before is staying with her Aunt. New school, new start, new friends and then new Jillie.
Jillie is befriended by two girls when she meets them in a store, I couldn't decide if I liked them or not, they were the type of girls that were materialistic, conversed with one another with what to wear, drove Mercedes, image was important and once Jillie became their friend she was told what to wear, how to wear her makeup and Jillie just went with the flow. It turns out they were in fact good friends because there was a whole different realm of catty, mean girls once they started school, so her two new best friends didn't seem as bad in comparison.
The whole story is based around a night with a boy, a boy Jillie meets at a party, they spend hours together on the beach. Because Jillie doesn't know how long she will be with her Aunt she asks the guy if they can just have a perfect night together and not share names, just have one night together and nothing more. Jillie tells him her name is Jill and gives him the name Jack. (My inner sarcasm kept kicking in, "of course he'll let you call him whatever you want, probably even Ronda, he's a teenage boy who's about to get his end away for goodness sake".) I eye rolled a lot but that's just me not being used to YA.
Jillie does walk away with a night to remember, a perfect night where she lost her virginity to a stranger and her night with Jack becomes something she will treasure until she starts her new school and her Jack turns out to be the star quarterback and has a girlfriend.
I have to admit, I am not used to reading young adult, I fell in love with Anne Mercier's Rock-star series first and have enjoyed other books she has written so had to give this a go. Decisions made by these characters and the immaturity drove me insane, Jillie even tries to move on from her night with Jack and begins to have a relationship with a guy who first becomes her friend but because they both deep down fancy other people, they settle, spend a lot of time together like dating, movies etc but never go any further than kiss? I thought they were perfect together myself, I saw the plot going a completely different direction with a message to it, but what do I know, it seems the quarterback does always get the girl.
If you love YA, you will love the drama's and the angst in this story, me personally it drove me round the bend but it won't stop me from reading the second book, I have to see how it all goes. The ending was dramatic and heartfelt and of course, I want to see how Jillie gets on, the mother in me wants to see how this poor girl copes, I want a happy ending.
Told in first person, finishes with TBC. Available In KU.
First things first; I love the cover to this book. I loved this story. I tried reading this book slowly in order to make it last longer. Instead, I couldn’t put it down. I couldn’t stop reading until I finished. It resulted in me writing this review at 3am. Why? Because I knew that if I didn’t write the review right now, I wouldn’t be able to sleep. I needed to write my thoughts as soon as I had finished the story. <- Sorry for my little ramble. I have been having trouble getting in to stories recently due to lack of concentration. I was a little worried about struggling to get into this story. I needn’t have worried. I devoured this book in one sitting and was left eager for the next book. I love this story. It gave me whispered truths vibes (another book by Anne Mercier that I love) I think it was mainly the friendships part of the story that reminded me of whispered truths. That aside, I found the writing style easy to follow, the characters loveable and the storyline entertaining. I love Jillian. She is a bookworm and an introvert. That all changes when she moves from Wisconsin to California. She meets Aubrey and Isla who fast became her best friends. They both pull Jillie out of her shell. Whilst at a beach party, Jillie meets ‘’Jack’’ and they soon hit it off. Not planning on ever seeing each other again, they’re soon in for a shock once school starts. Jillie was looking forward to starting until a prank gone wrong causes two schools to come together. On her very first day she gets a shock and her day goes from bad to worse. As time passes, feelings grow, as does confusion. We get to see Jillie juggle, feelings, emotions, new friends, relationships and high school drama. It really is an entertaining read. I liked that Jillie gained the confidence to stand up for herself. I liked that she didn’t cower to Ellen and Leo. She stood her ground and made her opinions known. I kind of wanted to dislike Leo but I just couldn’t! I disliked his coldness towards Jillie at times but it was clear to see it was an act. My only disappointment with this story is that I wanted Leo’s point of view. I was desperate to see what he was thinking, his feelings for Jillie and his opinions. That being said, it didn’t bother me that it was just Jillie’s point of view. It’s just me loving the story so much that I want to know more. One last thing, I love Isla, Aubrey and Elan. I liked that Jillie wasn’t afraid to open up to someone new. I loved the friendships with the girls but I also adored how close Elan and Jillie grew. I loved how selfless Jille was and what she did for Elan unbeknownst to him. The ending of this story made my heart race and break a little. I need to know more! The storyline for this book is easy to follow and it is an enjoyable read. I cannot wait for book two – I need it now!

Jillie is a Marine Brat who has moved to California to live with her Aunt while her Dad is deployed overseas. Her Mum died when she was little. She lucked out & met two great girls, Isla & Audrey, almost immediately who have included her into their lives completely & become bestfriends so easily. They're determined to drag her out of her bookworm & isolationist ways & encourage her to join in more & become more social!!😊
A few days before school is due to start Isla & Audrey drag her to a party. They end up, much to her surprise, having a great time!👍 Part way through Jillie grabs some water bottles & goes to sit on the beach to sober up & cool off. It's here she meets 'Jack'. They'd decided to give fake names as it seemed better that way plus she knows she's only there until her Dad comes back!! He's gorgeous, funny, open, honest & they talk for hours 😍 Their connection is undeniable. They start kissing & it soon turns to much more!!🔥🔥 It is the perfect night & he's the perfect guy to lose her virginity to. She knows she could fall for him so easily but one perfect night is all they'll have!!💘💔
Wow, this book is cute but full of angst. Jillie turns herself inside out during the aftermath of that one perfect night. She starts to become stronger but at times someone she doesn't like very much!!😕 She isn't a Mean Girl usually, the opposite in fact, but jealousy & bitterness are a hard pill to swallow!😒 Thankfully her friends rally around her & keep her mostly sane 😊🙏
I adored this book from start to finish. The world building is spot on as are the characters. I really liked that the main character found flaws in herself she really didn't like, it was more real!!👍 I want to know more about Leo/Jack, what makes him tick? That ending 😳😭 I didn't see it coming, and I usually do, so I wasn't prepared at all!😱
We all know Anne can write a rockstar like nobody's business but for Kiss This she's dabbled in YA and it makes me wonder why she hasn't done it sooner? Jillie is a Marine brat who has moved in with her aunt while dad is deployed, in a new town. Besides her 2 BFFs she met at the mall one day, she knows no one! That is, until they drag her to a beach party and she meets this dreamy, sexy man that she gives "herself" to!!! They decide they don't want to exchange names since Jillie will probably be leaving soon anyways, why ruin perfection? She names him "Jack". Fast forward 3 days with a twist of events has the 2 private schools in town sharing one school, and she bumps into "Jack" and a girl hanging all over him. Besides the obvious girl with (who we now know as) Leo, turns out he is absolutely nothing like he let on that special night. Sadly, Leo is NOTHING like "Jack". Can Jillie see him every day and not die a little over what could have been? Will she ever get over the idea of a prince that truly is a toad? I read this book in one sitting, I just couldn't put it down! I found the quick witted banter between all the friends so fun that I just couldn't stop, afraid I'd miss out on something!
This book is part one in a duet, a young adult novel, written by an author that usually favors more adult, hard rocker books. This is a bit outside of my comfort zone, but I'm glad I went there. This was definitely a fun read, but at times still dealing with serious issues that adults don't normally face (or at least not to this degree.)
Jillie is a 16 year old girl, getting ready to start a new school. She is the daughter of a Marine on deployment, and is staying with her aunt, since her mother is deceased. She and her friends enjoy one last party before the new year, and Jillie meets a guy that ticks all of her boxes! Intending to keep things light, they don't exchange names, or numbers. School starts, and to her surprise, he's there. But he isn't who she thought he was, or the kind of person she thought he was.
This book was full of surprises, lots of laughs, and a few tears. I really enjoyed Jillie's spunk, and determination to open herself up to new experiences. I loved the way she didn't hesitate to stand up for herself. And that ending! It killed me! I'm definitely looking forward to reading the next part of the duet!
I really don't know what to think of this book. Overall, it was an easy read and it kept my attention until the end. Jillie is living with her aunt in California while her father is deployed overseas. The weekend bore school starts, she talked into going to a party she has no interest in. She doesn't want to know his real name because she figures she won't be around long enough for it to matter. She ends up enjoying herself more than she planned but doesn't want to destroy the magic. She gives the guy the alias of Jack and when she finds out who Jack really is, she doesn't know how to handle the situation. She tells "Jack" what she really wants but he refuses. Not only does she have to deal with him at school, but also with the "mean girls". She tries her best to get over him but doesn't quite succeed. The ending of the book I was not expecting and I'm looking forward to reading it. I just hope that it has other povs than just Jillie.
So this book was amazing to read! I literally couldn't put it down right from the start! I totally fell in love with Jillie and Leo's characters!! Jillie's friend are also absolutely amazing and I love how much they had her back no matter what! Shows how true friends are suppose to be. The only thing I honestly would have liked in this book was to possibly get Leo's POV on some of the scenes that happened, like what was he really thinking at this point and what made him so angry really. I do have to say though that the ending of this book definitely hit home for me and tugged at my heartstrings. I was literally a crying mess at the end. But hey a good book makes you feel actual feelings and that is what this book truly did! I cannot wait for Book 2 so I can find out what happens next! Highly recommend reading this book you will love it just as much!!!
“Oh. Well… do we still get to choose between the six variations of our uniforms?”
Along with Each character having cringe worthy nicknames, Not much of a personality or story..... And the biggest form of revenge is singing to the enemy!!!!
Not the Bully Romance Amazon made it out to be......
Anne wanted a break from the Rockstars and I am so pleased she did, while I can't wait for the next one I really enjoyed this book. I could feel for Jillie I was very shy as a child and would often just stay in the background. The characters were so true to life and just what you would expect from High School kids who have more money than they know what to do with, calling them richie's was a good name for them, but OMG that ending I didn't know what to do with myself, I wont give anything away but recommend you read it, deserves 5*plus if it was possible.
Great new YA from Anne Mercier. Takes me back to my high school years. The drama, the boys, the friends, the jealous snobs. Jillie and Leo aka Jack and Jill met at a beach party. The attraction and chemistry was hot for them both and Jillie gives him what she gave no other thinking they would never see each other again. When school starts and they have to combine schools, Jillie discovers HGJ (Hot Guy Jack) is really the popular quarterback and he isnt alone. Drama is heavy and misunderstandings lead them both to thinking different of the people they met at the beach. Great fast pace read that turns into a tragedy and cliffhanger. What will happen to Leo and Jillie when she has to leave? So many questions and eager for book 2.
DNF at 70% and this is a 180 pages long book!!! It was simply bad, no way to look around it. The author wrote on the dedication: “I couldn’t find the book I wanted to read so I decided to write it”- seriously??? you couldn’t find a single book in such a huge genre and this is what you came up with??? I didn’t like the main character at all, she described herself as a quite, nerdy girl, no drama but after 2 seconds she turned into Godzilla and I couldn’t get how her own friends could stand her, not to mention that poor boy she cornered. All along she was wondering (same wonder, over and over again) “how can he and jack be the same guy?” Well girl, you turned up to be a crazy, angry bit** so easy on the wondering!!! Really just a bad book, couldn’t bring myself to finish.
What a refreshing take on a young adult book! I absolutely loved it. The story line and the interweaving of the backstories of the characters had me turning the pages as fast as I could. Anne said these two books would be coming out fairly quickly following each other but after reading this one, the second can’t come out fast enough. The story is kinda like Mean girls meets Friday Night Lights with a whole lot of original story line thrown in. I can’t wait to read more!
To be in high school again, Kiss This is very well written with just the right amount of angst, quirkiness, the elements of youth friendships, the mean girls, and great leading characters. I sat down read the whole book in one sitting. That’s how good it is. I never saw the end of Kiss This coming. So looking forward to the next book in the series. Well done Anne Mercier. You have a wonderful writing style with a flair for bantering and quick responses!
Anne Mercier, what can I say? Kiss This is in the YA genre. It’s fun, witty, sassy, and oh my god! I love this story, made me feel like I was back in High School. You have Jillian, Military child, meaning moving from area to area, and you have Leo, all time Football Star. Two different kinds of people.... that you would probably never think would mesh. But one night is all it takes. Sheesh!!!!!! Gimme gimme book 2!!!!!! Pretty please!!!!!
All I’m going to say about this book is wow!! I’m not normally one for reading YA but this book has totally opened me up to reading more. God bless jillie she is a strong but shy young girl and has her world turned upside down when she meets Jack aka Leo, she goes on a rollercoaster of emotions and has things a little tough in this story but I pray she has an easier time in the second book. Can’t wait to find out what happens in the next story, the ending will certainly leave you wanting more!!
I have read many stories by this author but this was her first YA book. Every book is better than the next and this one did not disappoint. Life through the eyes of high school Jillie was a story I will not forget. From broken hearts, jealousy, to best friends and so much more. From page one to the last I thought it was so well done. This is part one of a two part series and I cannot wait to see where her journey will take her.
If you're a fan of YA then you will love this book. If you're not typically a fan of YA you will be after Kiss This. It follows Jillian Fox, an marine brat, as she deals with the struggles of young love, another new school, and high school hierarchy. It was sweet and humorous with just the right amount of angst. Made me reminisce on my time in high school. This was just so fun and well written and has me wanting to delve deeper into the YA genre. Part two can't come soon enough! 😍
Wow, just wow. I love how realistic the portrayal of teens is. Wish I had Jillie's confidence in who she is when I was that age. Love her love of Chucks and individuality when it comes to get style. Also her selflessness in her actions for her friends. Can't wait for the next book!
Jack meets Jill. Jill falls for Jack only to find out Jack isn’t real. This book was everything I wanted from a YA. It gripped at all the mushy parts of me and made me laugh. I cannot wait for book two so I can see what happens after that gut wrenching cliffhanger.
Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect with a YA story since it's been a long time since I've read one. I can honestly say, I was wonderfully surprised. As with all her books, it doesn't take long for Anne to pull you right into the middle of the story. You feel yourself being part of the group that is around Jillie and Leo. You will laugh, you will yell, and at the end you will cry. Excited and impatiently waiting for the release of Book 2.
I loved this book! The ending leaves me waiting with bated breath for the next one. I’ll admit it took me a little while to get into but just because it’s not a usual genre for me. Though, once it picked up I was hooked. It’s nice when an author you love can branch out into different genres. Bravo, Anne!!
This was a great YA read, there’s nothing better than a bit of high school drama! I like Jillie, she was sassy and funny. Leo was very mysterious and I hope we learn a bit more about him in book 2. Loved Jillie’s friends and Elan too. Look forward to reading more!
