Kele Moon

A freckle-faced redhead born and raised in Hawaii, Kele Moon has always been a bit of a sore thumb and has come to enjoy the novelty of it. She thrives on pushing the envelope and finding ways to make the impossible work in her story telling. With a mad passion for romance, she adores the art of falling in love. The only rules she believes in is that, in love, there are no rules and true love knows no bounds.

So obsessed is she with the beauty of romance and the novelty of creating it, she’s lost in her own wonder world most of the time. Thankfully she married her own dark, handsome, brooding hero who has infinite patience for her airy ways and attempts to keep her grounded. When she leaves her keys in the refrigerator or her cell phone in the oven, he’s usually there to save her from herself. The two of them now reside in Florida with their three beautiful children, who make their lives both fun and challenging in equal parts—they wouldn’t have it any other way.

I'm not racist.

So don't get it twisted. So if you are one of those people who can't take harmless jokes that perhaps touch on race, this is not the review for you.

And perhaps I'm not the friend for you; because, while not racist, I have no filter. And I take pretty much nothing seriously, especially myself. So you shouldn't either.

Take me seriously, that is.

Just thought I'd throw that out there before I get anymore nastygrams.

On to my gush fest review.

This. Book. Was. The. SHIT.

In all sincerity, I loved every moment - and believe me there were a lot of moments - as this thing was loooooong.

But I’m so glad it was.

Because we really got to know Chuito.

We got to witness his and Alaine’s love story.

We got to witness perhaps the most EPIC bromance of all time time between Chuito and Tino.

description

And Nova?

description

Boy, did he show the F up.

For realz though, Chuito, Tino, and Nova are now my own personal ORGASM brigade.

The banter in this book, between ALL of the characters - but especially those three gifts from above - was SO awesome I can’t even describe it.

In fact, my pointer finger (that’s how us fancy folk refer to the index finger) is so sore from all the highlighting I did that I might need some pot aspirin.

And before anybody get’s their panties in a bind, no I don’t smoke weed. It makes me pass out That’s a reference to events in the book.

Fellow Slayers will understand.

But anywho.

Unlike Viper’s Marcos - who was a total poser - Chuito was a true badass.

And so were Tino and Nova.

description

Bad. Ass.

The connection between Chuito and Alaine?

Ah-may-zing.

Totally jump off the pages palpable.

And the sex?

description

Ay Dios mío.

I could go on, but I don't want to ruin the awesomeness for anyone.

This thing was just everything I want in a book and so well written.

All I know is, I can't WAIT for Tino and Nova's books.

And I will be hardcore stalking Kele Moon until they come out...

5++++++++ STARS

His destiny always found him no matter how much he ran from it. As sure as Chuito knew the next breath would have to enter his lungs whether he wanted it to or not, he knew that Alaine couldn't be his forever.

Take a look at my shelves and you'll see that I simply don't hand out 5 stars to books I read. It really has to be incredibly written, grip me by the heart and keep me glued to the pages type of read to get me to 5 star something nowadays. So what I'm about to say here is no light statement.

This was THE best fighter romance I've read. Ever. To date.

This was Kele's best book to date.

This is a book that will not only stay with me but it's going straight to my re-read shelf along with my top 5 favorites.

Simply said, I loved the absolute FUCK out of this book.

I can't tell you that I loved Chuito in the previous books because let's be honest here, the man can be a true asshole to anyone that isn't his closest friends or family. If you've read The Viper and saw how he treated Marcos' girlfriend, you know what I'm talking about. But beneath the tattoos, the title belt, the reputation, and the rough gangster exterior is the heart of a protector. Chuito is a man that does everything fiercely; the way he lives, the way he fucks, and definitely the way he loves. He will do anything for his family. Even if it means selling his soul to the devil, or better yet the Italian mob, to protect his best friend and cousin.
Fate caught up with everyone eventually. Even the devil wasn't immune to it.

The Slayer will take you back to the beginning and really give you the bones of Chuito's story, and it is no light read. This is not a man that had an easy life. This is someone that got his first battle scars on the streets, running with a gang that's only more dangerous when it's crossed. But when he saw a way out, he took it. Unfortunately, the life had already fully sucked in his cousin and he was unable to help him then. The story line here mixed in with the events of Crossing the Line, and to truly appreciate this book, I would highly recommend reading that first.

Alaine is a ray of life that Chuito never expected to deserve or to give him the time of day. But when the beautiful young woman becomes his neighbor, the begin an incredibly strong friendship. Alaine has been in love with Chuito for as long as she's known him. There isn't a part of him that doesn't call to every feminine part of her. Now let me tell you, watching the way that Chuito is with her will absolutely melt your heart. This is not a man that ever hides his feelings or leads her on. He's not your typical manwhore that sleeps around to take his mind off of the one woman he doesn't think he can have or deserves. He couldn't be further from that. But that doesn't mean that he gives into her. She's too good for him, too pure. His past and his life can always catch up with him. His current situation with Tino isn't exactly one he wants touching her either. So while he loves her, he knows he can never give her more than that.
I just love you. That's it. Only love. Not sex. I can just love someone. Love is good. Sex is cruel."

Their connection was something that absolutely drew you in. The chemistry between them is so palpable it's electric. Their private dancing is just the icing on the cake.
Listen to the drums. That's the part you listen to. Feel it."
"I'm feeling it."
No. Feel it like a heartbeat. Like life. You want it to be a love song, hear the sex in it. Hold me like I hold you." He jerked her tighter against him as he said it, forcing her breasts to crush against his chest and her dress to ride higher up on her thighs. "Like you need me."

God but I loved it.

This was not a love story of a few days or even weeks. This was a love story strengthened by friendship and grown through several years. This may just even be one of my most favorite couples I've read to date.

Chuito fights the connection between them for a long as he can. But inevitably, it proves to be too much, and when these two finally get together? Well, forget sparks, we're talking about 4th of July fireworks here. I don't remember the last time I read a book where the first sexual encounter actually gave me goosebums. With the books I've read, believe me when I say that this pervert has been desensitized to most of it. But boy did these two together get my heart pumping.
She clung to his shoulders and let him take her mouth the way he had taken her heart a long time ago- violently and without warning.

But it was so much more than just an incredible love story. At the heart of it, there's Chuito's past catching up with him and him fighting like hell to protect Alaine and his cousin from it. There was one scene in this book that was so incredibly gut wrenching to read, I actually had to set the book down for 5 minutes after reading it, just to calm myself.
Gangster tears weren't ordinary tears. The cut had to be deeper than bone, a hurt that made motherfuckers unrepentant murderers. It ripped open souls and bled out humanity.

All of my favorite secondary characters from previous books made an appearance. And of course what would this series be without Tino and Nova. Now Tino, oh my darling Tino. I freaking love this man. The banter between him and everyone else was the comedic relief that was definitely necessary and oh so welcome.
You just told me you manspaced. You're fucked up too."
"It's a common courtesy," Tino went on. "No woman wants to suck on a hairy dick."

But when if there's one thing that Tino does even more fiercely than Chuito, it's protecting his loved ones. And there is definitely one heart breaking choice that Tino makes in this book that you just know will haunt him all through his book and I can't wait to see how that plays out.

I'm pretty sure that I highlighted over half this book. I just couldn't stop myself. I loved it so hard.

I'm talking everything; the story, the romance, the angst, the heartache, EVERYTHING. As long as this book was (an it was LONG), I never wanted it to end.

This is a book and author that needs to be on everyone's TBR list. I don't care who you are, it's impossible not to fall in love with this series or these characters. If this book doesn't make you fall head over heels for Chuito and Alaine, then we haven't been reading the same one. I'm that confident. Kele Moon is an incredibly talented author that continues to write books that are better and better than the last. All have her signature voice, but yet they're different in the best of ways. No one book, character, or story of hers is the same. I can't tell you how much I love that. This book will break your heart, it will melt it, and then it will piece it together, all in one breath stealing and captivating story. I simply cannot recommend it enough.

5 HUGE stars!

I totally blame Kele Moon for sending me through the depths of book funk hell with The Slayer. This book was raw, gritty, violent and brimming with passion and sensuality.

I simply loved it.

The Slayer and the Minister's Daughter

We know Chuito Garcia as the gang banger who came to Garnet to train in the Cellar back in the Battered Hearts Series. Alaine was the minister's daughter looking to break free of her tyrannical father. Their background couldn't have been more different on the outside. But on the inside, it's a different story altogether.

Theirs was a story of friendship first, one that is borne out of need. When Chuito moved in next door to the quiet Alaine, he never thought he would be dependent on her warmth and her acceptance. Most of all he never thought she would become his only salvation.

She felt like his salvation, like the angel he always thought of her as...

For Alaine, Chuito was her freedom. He became a world for her to get lost in and her very own love story. And despite Chuito not being able to give her what she wanted, she continued to believe in him.

Chuito has a lot of demons. His life as a gangster back in Miami has followed him to Garnet. He knows how hard that kind of life is and he doesn't want Alaine near it, so he pushes her way. Begging her to find someone else...someone with less demons.

"I am not going to be your love story. I am your friend. I'll be your friend until I die, but I am not going to give you a happily ever after."

If it had been just any book, Chuito pushing Alaine away because of his demons would have annoyed me. But not here. Not in this book. Kele Moon did a phenomenal job of giving the reader a harsh picture of the underworld. When I say Chuito is an anti-hero, I really mean, he's an anti-hero. The world of gangsters and the mafia that Kele depicted in this book is one that is full of violence, power and fear making The Slayer one of her darkest book in the series...so far. This is by far the most authentic gangster book I've read. The way the author took time to incorporate the language not only of Chuito's native tongue but the gangster "speak" as well.

But despite its very dark themes, this book had a lot of lighthearted and funny moments courtesy of Tino and Nova. Make no mistake though, these side characters are more than just comic reliefs because their relationship to Chuito and Alaine added depth and complexity to the story.

This isn't just about Alaine and Chuito's journey to HEA. This book was also about Tino and his friendship with Chuito. It is also about Nova's struggle for power. It is about loyalty, family, friendship and love. And I just enjoyed seeing all these elements come together as a whole. I was invested in these characters. I reveled in their triumphs and lamented in their despair.

His destiny always found him no matter how much he ran from it. As sure as Chuito knew the next breath would have to enter his lungs whether he wanted it to or not, he knew that Alaine couldn't be his forever.

I loved Chuito. His love for Alaine was unquestionable. And even though he pushed her away saying he's not good enough for her, his actions made a liar out of him. The things he did for Alaine was swoon-worthy. His loyalty to his friends and his family was undeniable. My heart broke for him at the end of The Viper. The length he went through for Wyatt, for Tino and for his mother showed his big heart. Seriously, you'd want this guy on your side in a fight. Not just because he's a champion fighter but because he will always have your back no matter what. ALWAYS.

Because despite his flaws, his commitments, all the darkness and danger...this woman loved him enough to spend eternity with him.

Important Note: To get the most out of the series, it is best to read this series in order. While The Slayer is mainly about Chuito and Alaine, a lot of their back stories can be found in The Viper book 1), Star Crossed and Crossing The Line. (Book 2 & 3 of the Battered Hearts series.)

"To me you're coke. Fine. Smooth. Perfectly white. Very bad for me, but so fucking sexy I don't give a shit. It's worth going down for."

Without a doubt, this book (and series) should be up there with the best. It was INTENSE and I feel like these characters are now a part of me. To put it simply, Kele Moon can write a sexy alpha male like no other and Chuito Garcia was fucking fantastic! I loved him soooo much <3
_ _ _ _

Fans of this series, and the Battered Hearts Series, will know Chuito quite well already, he is a gang banger turned UFC champion who has done a lot of bad shit in his life, but he is an extremely loyal friend who has one of the biggest hearts hiding under his gang tattoos and scary exterior.

He has been friends with his neighbour Alaine for a long time now, she is the preachers daughter who escaped her fathers strict parenting when she was 18 and along with the help of her boss Jules has earned herself a law degree and is now an independent and confident woman.

This is their love story and it's not a pretty one, it is sad and gritty and raw but with glimpses of absolute devotion and adoration and loyalty. Alaine & Chuito are soul mates who are meant to be, but Chu loves her too much to get involved with her, she is pure and innocent and he is dark and stained.

"I am not going to be your love story.
I am your friend.
I'll be your friend until I die, but I am not going to give you a happily ever after."

It's under the dark of night that their relationship develops, when Chu has nightmares she comes to him and soothes his soul. He teaches her to dance and they eat together and laugh together. Chu is in his self imposed prison in Garnet, but he'd rather stay there forever than go back to Miami where it is becoming obvious that he is needed back there to make things right with the Los Corredores.

We get glimpses of the past 5 years mixed with the present day and not only do we get Chu and Alaine's tumultuous love story, but we get to see his bromance with Tino. The bond these two have is so strong, and I loved the banter, the love that they had for each other shone through, and even when it was tested in the most horrendous way, there was no doubt that it was unbreakable.

"I give a shit because I love you," Tino said so passionately it stunned Chuito.
"Your'e my brother."

_ _ _ _

Honestly, I can't gush enough - I don't want to go into the details of the story because it needs to be experienced with fresh eyes. I said it about The Viper, but Kele Moon really takes you on a journey with her stories, this book will make you laugh & cry from one page to the next.

Alain loved Chuito unconditionally and he deserved it so much, I was so happy that they got their happy ending.

"She appreciated him as a man. As a warrior.
In a way, she supposed she appreciated him as a criminal too."

It is recommended that you at least read Crossing the Line & The Viper before you read this one, they are both as amazingly written and well worth it.

I am now DYING for Tino and Nova's books, these latin men are just perfection <3

5 KNOCKOUT Stars!! Intense, passionate, sensual, brutal, exciting, and at times...downright hilarious! A steamy scrumptious romance with delicious side of bromance!

 photo Garnet20county1_zpsdzovexsy.jpg

Kele Moon's done something really special with this book and series! It’s not your typical MMA romance; it's about family, loyalty, sacrifice, and love…love in many forms…The Slayer is the total package. The author brings the reader into the dark dangerous world of gangs and the mafia, humanizes the anti-hero, and despite the heinous crimes they commit, you can’t help but feel and fall for them.

The story transitions between past and present, explains the character's history and events that shaped their personalities. It makes for a captivating, gripping story, and holds the reader spellbound with anticipation! This is something the author did brilliantly in Crossing the Line and it's done every bit as good here!

 photo cd55c227-b44d-4b8d-ab0f-37aa5a86b100_zpsjwqvlsv1.jpg

Chuito, the elusive tortured hero, you thought you knew who he was, but you had no idea...not until now! He's done bad things, but he did them because love and loyalty drove him to it!

 photo f0fdfca8-869c-4fa2-82b1-466713e4c349_zps1cg2e1qj.jpg

Alaine…what wonderful surprise! I thought she was going to be a meek mouse...uh not so much...the girl is fierce! She wants Chu and is willing to sacrifice whatever she has to, just to be with him.

 photo 47a2d801-1266-4de6-8303-03bfbc82af4f_zpsgjhoz4er.jpg

And then there are the Italians, Tino and Nova. OMG...Tino's bromance with Chu, I was howling with laughter at their antics and conversations.
Your holster's too loose,” Tino said as he looked at it. “And you need to wear a shirt under your sweats.”
Chuito groaned.
“What is the Puerto Rican aversion to undershirts?”
“What is the Italian obsession with them?” Chuito countered.
“Um, how 'bout the fact that we're not sweating out our clothes and chafing the fuck out of our arms when we're strapped. I bet you don't wear one under a suit.”
“I use deodorant. You should try it sometime.”
Tino covered his face with his hand and mumbled against his fingers , “I'm buying you some undershirts.
"No."
Tino gave him an annoyed look. “I use deodorant.”
“I'm just saying I heard things about Italians.”Chuito laughed as he took another drink. “Motherfucker—"
Chuito dropped his head to the table and cracked up before Tino could finish. “I keep my shit clean,” Tino went on.“I even manscape. I'm the cleanest motherfucker in Garnet.”
Kele Moon has an amazing sense of humor, what a wonderful element to balance the dark side of this story.

 photo 497f223e-2347-4172-8fd2-24638168aaec_zps4lftj2wu.jpg

Nova, Nova, Nova...I have no words other than I'd gladly "shake hands" with him anytime!
What is it with you Italians? It fucking counts.”
“One time is like shaking hands.”
“No, it's not. Sticking your dick in someone is not the same as shaking hands.”
“Friends fuck one time,” Nova explained as if it made perfect sense. “It's not a relationship. It's a moment. It doesn't count.”
My hats off to Kele Moon for what she's done with this series. When she first brought us to Garnet County by way of Defying the Odds, the first book in the Battered Hearts series, which precedes Untamed Hearts, she started a trend with books about MMA fighters. I never anticipated these characters to take on the life that they have, and for the writing and storytelling to take such an unexpected, fantastic turn. And now I need more by way of two Italians that have captured my heart.

So, I offer you my services Ms. Moon, I will babysit, clean your house, shop and cook for you, mow your lawn, do your laundry, and even clean up after your pets, if it means that we will get the next two books faster!! Because my goodness...that ending!!!

I can't recommend this book and series enough, you could start with The Viper, the first book in Untamed Hearts, but I say go back to the beginning, start with Defying the Odds! Welcome to Garnet...where crazy doesn't even begin to explain it!

5 No Shame in My Game, Mami Stars
* * * * * Spoiler Free
I am going to be blatantly forthcoming. I have developed a huge girl crush for Kele Moon. In all of the books I have read by her, she has given, she has laid out her heart and soul with no fear. I am in awe of how she has put together an epic group of characters and remained true to the way she intended without any false steps. It is a thing of beauty.

She has created an homage to different cultures... providing an understanding of all the reasons why these people are doing what they are. She is not sugar coating it... or making it unnecessarily pretty. She is presenting the good with the bad, the heart with the cold and cutting. We have a front-row seat to these lives and I cannot turn away.

The first part of this series is The Viper. There we met Marcos and went through his arc of redemption and love. We were introduced to his cousin Chuito.
We had bits and pieces of Chuito...this MMA Champion fighter who carried so much responsibility on his back and in his heart. He had put himself in a self-imposed prison of sorts....not allowing love to come to him....it was his penance for the loss of his brother, his tia and the time Marcos did.

For love was knocking on his door in the form of Alaine. She was a preacher's daughter, finding her own way from the repression of her father. She may have lived next door to him but in his mind, she was as far away as another galaxy. She was pure, good and everything he wasn't... and he loved her to the point of pain. They became these lovers of the mind and soul without Chuito allowing himself to take what they both wanted. Numerous times Alaine would save him from himself during the night... holding him, comforting him from the nightmares that haunted him. Once she discovered his need, she never turned away.

This love story is powerful and intense. Both these characters are strong...their core beliefs are rooted in what they believe is true. He thinks there is no redemption for him; she believes he deserves everything she willing to give.

I am frustrated with the sharing of this story because it needs to be experienced. The artistry in the creation of the plot points, the fleshing out of the emotions and experiences which drive this feel so real, you think of them as people you know...not who you are reading about in some novel.

The weight of this book is massive in the other characters' arc. We not only have Chuito and Marcos' gang issues in Miami but Nova and Tino's Mafia concerns. We learn of all the backstories.... how Chuito became friends with Tino; the way people are and why.

Alaine is surprisingly independent and capable when push comes to shove and flourishes in her declaration of intent and love of Chuito. When things begin to heat up for these two, sensuality has a new definition. It was awe-inspiring.

I am not going to attempt to tell more...I won't do it justice. This series is deep in meaning on so many levels. Persecution because of ethnicity, because of repression from family... because of so many things ingrained in generations...Just please read this author; all of her books are solid; worthy of your time.

Just read the book...

4.5 Stars!

It's no small secret I love me some Kele Moon...HARD! Especially her MM! But I've read most of her MF too! The Battered Hearts series.

Untamed Hearts....just as good! Why Kele is making us wait for-freaking-ever for Nova's book no one knows. So I had to settle for Chuito this go round. It was quite the hardship.

So imagine my surprise when I open this baby up and see its 8,000 location counts on my Kindle. 8-fucking-thousand.

Now I don't know if I like Kele THAT much!

Anyone that knows me, knows I have a length aversion. Book length that is.

And this puppy was worth all 8,000 of those locs.

Yes, it's heavy on the gang stuff....like Viper.

Yes, Chuito is one FINE Puerto Rican!

Yes, all of that Spanish speak really turned me on...even though there wasn't a lot of sex to be had.

Yes, I want Nova.....BADLY!

As heavy and emotional as this one was...I laughed out loud a lot. At Tino and Chu especially....and Nova.

The ending...yeah,

....I am in teaser HELL!

Since I found out a character would be getting an MM spin-off, I spent a lot of time examining everyone to see who it might be! I have my guesses!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️5 STARS⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Early Arc kindly provided by the author.

THIS book is going to stay on my ALL TIME Favorites’ shelf. Yes, THAT good.
I never read anything like it. Also I have a feeling it’ going to be a tough one to top!

This book… I’m not even sure where I should start. What I should say. What I can do to make you pick this book fast. NOW.
As much as a little part of me is yelling at me to shut my mouth and keep for myself this little gem and the ultimate alpha male ever found in a book, another part just wants to shout to the world about the awesomeness that was The Slayer.

This book should be known, this book should be standing proud on every romance addict’ shelves, this author should be broadcasted!
I know when most see this cover and think about the previous series, they think : Oh, MMA romance. Nice!
I beg to differ, I’m sorry but I have to tell you, you are SO wrong! Yes MMA romance trope is sure to get my imagination going. Hot MMA fighters are a great reason to open a book. Sure.
But The Slayer was so much more, it was an epic love story most of all. One of the best.
“Fate caught up with everyone eventually. Even a devil wasn’t immune to it.”

The Slayer is the story of Chuito and Alaine, 2 characters fundamentally opposed. If you read The Viper (Untamed Hearts #1) and the original series, Battered Hearts, then you know who Chuito is and were probably dying to get his story. I was. And Kele Moon fulfilled my wishes and then some!
“He needed her.
Like air, like water, like something that would make him sick as hell if he didn’t have it.
It was a requirement to keep living.
He wanted to steal as much as he could from her.
To wring the pleasure out until there was nothing left.
Chuito was, at heart, a thief.
He liked taking things that were never supposed to be his.”

Chuito, if you remember, was the gang banger from Miami, Marco’s cousin, he came to Garnett and was offered a chance to train at The Cellar, MMA training facility owned by Wyatt and Clay.

He’s got an inner talent for fighting, or maybe it simply comes from his dark and rough upbringing.
He left his life in Miami but not his mind at peace. Thing are still unsettled and unresolved there for his family.
His destiny always found him no matter how much he ran from it.

Along with the chance to train and attempt at a new life, he’s been given a roof over his head, and an interesting neighbor…

“This chica had freckles over the bridge of her nose that just added to her appeal, making her look young and naive and corruptible as hell.”

Alaine is the daughter of a Preacher. She left her home and her father’s strict and suffocating parenting with the help of Jules, her new boss and is now studying law and renting the apartment next to the most beautiful man she ever laid her eyes on.

Yes, this count as a Neighbors to Lovers trope!

The story focuses on Chu and Alaine’ slow burn romance, dipping into past and present, revealing some key moments of their relationship.

Although their story burned its candle ever so slowly, Chuito doing everything not to "taint" Alaine, the book itself started with a bang! A boom! A scene so HOT, it gave me palpitations. Maybe it was just the idea of their self-forbidden relationship or the fact that those 2 were dancing around each other for SO long… It was so intense… And yet not enough.

“That was savage.
Raw.
So real and gritty it chafed and marked, staining her soul with the intensity of it.”

The level and intensity of emotions jumping out of the pages were impressive, rarely before have I had the pleasure to feel so much for a book character.

I felt connected to Chu. I was as supportive as Alaine was, if not much. Even though I knew he was bad news, the self-explanatory tattoos on his arms and back reminding me that he indeed had killed before, stolen, brutalized, he wasn’t less deserving of love and redemption.

Yes he was fierce, raw, violent, but he has proven to be the most loving, caring, charming man ever.
She appreciated him as a man.
As a warrior.
She appreciated him as a criminal too.

Alaine was another great surprise in this book, yes she was innocent, she was raised in a little town by a preacher. But Alaine wasn’t devoid of intelligence, wit and love. She’s an independent young woman, eager to discover new things and new people.

She has her own streak of protectiveness for the people she cares about, a trait she definitely shares with Chuito. She’s been in love with him for years now, and although he won’t give her what she wants, she stayed a loyal friend.
“It means a lot. Not for myself, for the other people who helped me. I did it for them. It’s not for me. It’s for them. I won for them.
It was for my brother. For my tiá. Maybe they were watching over me.
For my mother. My cousin Marc.
My bros in Miami. My bros at The Cellar.
It was for you too, mami.”

Until this one night, this one time, one thing is going to change it all.
“Coño, he wanted to be naked with her.
He wanted to taste all of her.
Fuck her.
Mark her.
Own her.”

Inevitably, Chuito’s past is coming back at him, ensuing one of the most emotional scene I’ve been given to read for a long time. I wasn’t ready for this. And I didn’t expect to react the way I did. The writing was THAT good. That good it made me cry. So good I was screaming at my book to just "STOP!". I think I hated Kele Moon a little at one point for toying with my feelings this way.

“I don’t want to repent.
I like my sins.
The blood on my arms means I got to kill the motherfuckers who destroyed my family.
That matters to me.
It matters so fucking much I am willing to go to hell rather than repent for them.
I want to keep my sins.”

This book had it all, the fierce and brutal life of a fighter, the sweet love story, the bromance, the innocent girl and the reformed bad boy, the family, the laughter, oh the laughter!

I literally laughed out loud so many times I’ve lost count. Hearing about Marco’s and Chuito’s teenagers antics, the light yet profound bond of brotherhood between Chuito and Tino, their constant bickering… Oh that was precious!

I also cried a lot, I cried for Chuito, I cried for Alaine…

I’m afraid to say too much and reveal some important parts of the story. I’d much prefer for you to discover it all firsthand. Trust me on this.

READ. THE. BOOK.

Wonder Woman, over.

6 Unbelievable "He's My Love Story" Stars!

Downright fucking AWESOME!!
OMG!!! Totally speechless right now. This book is SHUT THE FRONT DOOR awesome!!! You all know I don't hand out my 6-star ratings easily. I save those for the big dogs. But that shelf was invented for books LIKE THIS ONE!!

 photo Slayer Casting.jpg

I think the biggest thing that I really loved and appreciated about this book is that it's a FULL book.I know many prefer the quick reads, and they do have their time and place, but me personally, I miss the days of the longer, 500 page books, where you can really sink into a story. And with The Slayer, you can do just that.Additionally, it has everything. It's wickedly intense, funny, romantic, sexy, edgy, intricate. There is just so much to this story. To me it is by far Kele Moon's best writing yet, and I really loved her Battered Hearts series.

Chuito is the star and award winning MMA fighter at the Cuthouse Cellar in Garnet, Kentucky. He was recruited by Clay (from the Bettered Hearts series) out of Miami and therefore, transported out of his gang life into what he calls his life in a prison cell in Garnet. But Chuito loves to fight and he is pretty damn good at it. And because he is loyal, almost to a fault, he goes very willingly because it is the best thing to do for his family.

 photo The Slayer Teaser1.jpg

Clay, Jules, and Wyatt offer him everything he needs in exchange for staying out of trouble and working hard as a fighter, including a quaint little apartment next door to Jules's assistant...oh and the local preacher's daughter, Alaine.

The two strike a quick friendship, although begrudgingly on the part of Chuito because he is dead set on believing that Alaine is way too good to be hanging out with the likes of him.

 photo Slayer Teaser2.jpg

The timeline here is one that swings between the past and present, very much like Crossing the Line was. It shifts back to when Chuito first moved in next door to Alaine to now, five years later. We get to watch their relationship blossom which I absolutely loved. They really do have a solid friendship. Chuito sees in Alaine a chance for her to be something and somebody significant, since he and so many in his family couldn't. And Alaine is head over heels in love with Chuito and makes no secret about telling him this...often.

“Angels don’t like dirty.”
“Except I’m not an angel,” Alaine corrected him.
He smiled. “You are an angel. You cry during fights. You’re sweet, mami. You don’t wanna be with someone like me. Not like that. Friends are good.”
“I do want it, Chu,” she said without hesitating. “I want it more than anything.”

The chemistry between these two is downright electric. Chuito is trying to do the honorable thing and stand by her as a friend, but you can tell the whole time that it is killing him. I loved this insight into Chuito. We first met him in Star Crossed and I gotta tell ya...he ain't always a nice guy. But what can easily be interpreted as the guy being a callous dick is really so much more. He's fiercely protective and he's vigilant but he is all passion!!!

 photo Slayer Teaser3.jpg

You could cut the building sexual tension in here with a damn knife!!! Insta-love, this was NOT!!! And believe me when I tell you that the wait was damn WORTH IT!!! I can't remember the last time that a few hot sex scenes had my heart beating out of my chest because of how hot and passionate they were like these did!! Just...sensual is the best word that I can use to describe these two when they are between the sheets together! Explosively sensual!!!

 photo The Slayer Teaser4.jpg

“You wanna know how a real man’s supposed to fuck you?” “God, please.” Alaine was writhing under him, arching her hips in invitation as she turned her head, offering up her neck to him. Her voice was soft, breathy with desire as she begged, “Please, Chu. Please .” He’d have to be dead to deny himself after that.

"She felt like his salvation, like the angel he always thought of her as, but he fucked her like a devil anyway. It wasn’t soft and sweet and filled with worship. It was hard and dirty, with his fingers tight in her hair and her legs around his waist. Him giving, her taking, and both of them greedy and sweaty and needy."

I'm not going to say anything else about the story itself, because you really just need to experience it. This was some of the most solid and epic writing that I have ever had the pleasure of reading. There is an HEA however, the overall plot is a continuing one and...well, let's just say, no one is out of the woods yet with the things that are threatening all of these characters.

And OMG I SOOOOOO loved the bro-mance between Chuito and Tino! Laugh-my-fucking-ass-off good!! This brought some of the much needed comic relief to this book.

“I even manscape. I’m the cleanest motherfucker in Garnet.”
Chuito was still laughing, and he realized he was going to end up sleeping on Tino’s couch. “I got to stop drinking after running.”
“Puerto Ricans can’t hold their liquor like Italians.”
“You just told me you manscaped. You’re fucked- up too.”
“It’s a common courtesy,” Tino went on. “No woman wants to suck on a hairy dick.”
<---Tee hee...well, the man does have a good point!!

And OMFG NOVA!!! Nova, if you are reading this right now...CALL ME!!! I will run away with you and be your gumar gladly!! No one has to know!! Fuck me, is this guy SEXY!!!

“Go let Chuito corrupt you. I got enough fucking problems. He made his bed; he can make you scream in it.” “I wasn’t screaming,” she chastised. “You’re exaggerating.” “You were screaming,” he argued with a glare. “I don’t forget things. That shit is in my brain, and you are mostly naked right now. Go away.”

And uhhh, yeah... I see you have a thing for cougars! ;) I'll be your cougar, baby!!! Rwwarrr!! Haha!!!

For a mafia whore like me, this book delivers so much very intricate mafia goodness that I was happy as a clam!! I cannot wait to see where all of this goes in the next two installments of this brilliant series!! This is so much more than a love story. It's about love and sacrifice, redemption, overcoming borders, respect, loyalty, loss of innocence....like I said at the beginning of this review; it's a FULL, heavy story!!

A note on the reading order: You can totally come in and just read the two books in this series, including The Viper and this one.. you will totally follow the story and will not be lost at all. Kele does a great job of explaining all of the events that have gone on that are referenced here. HOWEVER, in order to get the full experience, I highly recommend starting with Crossing the Line. Not only was it was of my top reads this year, but a lot of the events that happen in that book, come back into play here.

I cannot friggin' WAIT for Tino's story next!!! Eeepp!!! That ending...OMFG!! Just an amazing series! Do not miss out guys!! ;)

A gangster. A fighter. A thug.

Chuito is filled with anger, revenge and sins. And the last thing he wants to do is drag Alaine, his beautiful, innocent, sweet neighbor, down to hell with him. He needs to keep her safe from a distance and let her have a normal life.

Even if it kills him to do so.

She felt like his salvation, like the ANGEL he always thought of her as, but he f*cked her like a DEVIL anyway.

This book, you guys... This book.

How to explain the incredibility of it? The magic? The beauty? The heartbreak?

It's a real challenge. So I will just let you guys dive in blind. Maybe that's better.

“I love you, mami. I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be sorry. Don’t apologize for loving me.”

OVERALL: This book is not only a love story. It's the story of a boy who was thrown inside a tornado of pain and suffering when he was just a kid. A boy that grew up to be an incredible man. One with sins and bloody hands...but the kindest and softest heart. There are also Tino and Nova and Marcus, which all made my heart crack for them every 2 pages...

This might be one of the best books I've ever read. A must-read in my opinion. Give it a chance, guys. You won't regret it.

“I’d rather be in hell with you than anywhere else without you.”
~ ALAINE

P.S: For some reason, I was listening to I DON'T CARE by Fall Out Boy on repeat all through reading this book, so now whenever I hear it...I think of my Chuito! ♥♥♥

5 - "I can wait for my love story." Stars!

I have taken a few days to think about what I want to say in my review of The Slayer but even now I am still struggling to put into words just how frigging good this book is. I started reading Kele Moon’s books a while ago now, and the one thing that stands true with each and every one I pick up, is that somehow it manages to be better than the one before. We have now stepped beyond the realms of just MMA fighters and the women who love them, and into a whole other level and intensity of storytelling.

She would rather be in an uncertain life with him, than in a stable one without him.

The writing is all encompassing, the characters have been in my life for such a long time now that reading each new book is like going back to visit family, new additions have been added into the group along the way, as if definitely the case with The Slayer but the story lines and the characters and the breadth and depth that Kele takes you into them… as I said I am still struggling to adequately put into my review just how amazing her writing and this book is.

Chuito and Alaine basically come from opposite ends of the spectrum in relation to the lives they live and where they originate from. Sharing connecting bedroom walls in the same building are pretty much the only things they initially have in common. Alaine see’s the integrity and honor in Chu that he even struggles to see in himself most of the time. Their story which covers the 5 years they spend together in Garnet, told in the current and in flashbacks, and from both POV’s covers everything, from their first meeting, to all the intervening years.

"I like our prison."

Gang-Banger – Ministers daughter; you can guess just how many hurdles this couple have to overcome. This isn’t a quick read, and the work that the author has put into this book in making it the best it can be is clearly apparent from the first chapter right until its unforgettable end.

The latter part of the book moves Alaine and Chuito to Miami, back on his home turf we see more of the life that he lived and the man he was looking to leave behind upon moving to Garnet. Hard-hitting and extremely emotional, this part of the book is dirty, gritty, harsh and a little shocking, Chu starts to lose the grasp on the control that he has firmly held onto whilst in Garnet, and with his dark past, colliding with the brightness that was his future, he reverts back to the cold, ruthless, closed down guy he was when Alaine first met him.

The night hid sins. The morning exposed regret.

The story explores the beginnings; it gives you a different look at pivotal parts of other characters stories over the previous five years, through Alaine and Chuito’s eyes, that for me was an experience in itself. Vulnerability, loneliness and fear of not belonging, the gradual building of self confidence and the development of their relationship from friendship to something more, with an ending you don’t see coming, The Slayer has it all, and then some more just for good measure.

”I’m not an angel, and you’re not a devil.”

You need to read this series in order, I’d also recommend that is you haven’t read them you add the Battered Hearts books to your tbr (and read them before the Untamed Hearts books if possible). I still don’t feel like I have really done this book justice in this review, but I don’t want to ruin the journey that is Alaine and Chuito’s story, so much happens between them, reluctance turns to willingness, loneliness becomes togetherness. It’s the little things that make the difference, Kele has thought of, and covered them all, I really couldn’t have asked for more in this book.

Tino is up next, and I have absolutely no doubt that I will struggle to write a review that truly expresses my adoration for his book as well, just like I have with this one, Kele Moon is just that good!

”Some days it feels good to be a gangster.”

There may be a full review coming later....or maybe not, cuz there's not much else to say except yummmmy....

and

...THANK YOU, SUZE!!!!

Chuito wouldn’t consider himself sexist. He loved women. He respected them. More often than not, they were smarter, kinder, and undoubtedly the better half of the human species. One gave birth to him and another held his heart, which was why he felt like they deserved to be protected by the big, mean cavemen God stuck them on this planet with.

5 Tortured Heros, Intense & Brutal, Beautiful Lovestory Stars!!!

 photo bannerquote_zpsctjoymt7.jpg

I can honestly say that I was not expecting to like Chu's book as much as I did...what a wonderful surprise!

The Slayer skips between past and present so past unanswered questions about Chu are filled in, and it made for some interesting reading.

Chu is an MMA world champion and former gangster. He has tried to leave that world behind, but it's never really been behind him, and now he's now in deep with the Mafia too. But, beneath the tattoos and his MMA fame, Chu's a loyal and fierce protector and will do anything for his family or those he considers his family, even if it means selling his soul to the devil...which he is convinced he's already done. Because of this belief, he feels Alaine is totally out of reach for him no matter how much he loves her.

Chu has been in love with Alaine for five years, but pushes her away because of how naive he believes she is. Yet, as he pushes her away, she has become one of his best friends, and although he hasn't completely confided in her everything about his past and present, he has told her things he's not shared with anyone else.

“To me you’re coke. Fine. Smooth. Perfectly white. Very bad for me, but so fucking sexy I don’t give a shit. It’s worth going down for.” – Chuito to Alaine

 photo BeFunkyCollage_zps6zvlqujh.jpg

Alaine's a small town girl who grew up with her pastor father, and she has no idea how the other half lives and how truly brutal gang life is. But, Alaine is pretty determined to have Chu and is willing to do what it takes to make sure he is hers!!

For five years they talk, they dance and slowly fall in love…

 photo dancing1_zpspuyju2p_edit_1428039225670_zpsb5edme24.jpg
Mini excerpt:
She let herself be completely soft in his arms, moving where he wanted her to move, because it felt so damn good to let go of everything else and just be with Chuito. All she had to do was feel the drums throbbing and listen to the erotic, lulling sound of a man singing in Spanish about dancing with his woman.

All night.

They danced until the sun came up.

I have to mention how much I really, really, really loved the bromance between Tino and Chu. They had me constantly smiling and laughing out loud several times. Their personalities totally complement each other, then throw Alaine in the mix, prepare to be...amused! One of my favorite scenes is with Tino, Alaine, and Jules... HYSTERICAL !!! But, on a more serious note, yes, they are hysterical but the love and loyalty that Chu and Tino have for each other is truly a beautiful thing.

 photo QUOTE2_zpse6miqqje.jpg

This is also about two men, 100% Grade A "Fucking" Italians. Chu’s best friend Tino and a his Mafia underboss brother Nova...

 photo Tino_Nova_zps4ztd9fwo.jpg

This was a great addition to the series, with a surprise ending. I cannot wait for Tino's book, and I'm equally (if not more so) anxious for Nova's book!!!

Fabulous book! Besides being just slightly longer than I'd prefer, I adored the story. The over-arching plot was managed well ... however I felt like this book diverted from the primary couple and started focusing too strongly on the other characters.
The next book has been set up nicely & I look forward to seeing more of the Italian Enforcer in action ;)

Well, almost all. Holy bajeez, I'm so glad I read this book. I NEEDED it. Desperately. I needed a tough guy with a good heart who could badass with the badassest. And let me tell you, you have to wait for it, but Chu is an effing badass son of a bitch!! Don't let the guilt and the five year celibacy fool you. Revenge is his. I am a sucker for vengeance. It was HAD in this book!!

To be honest, there were some slow spots for me. I felt like the book was just a hair too long. But I'm not really sure what I feel could have been left out altogether, so I didn't really let it effect my rating. I think maybe five years of being "friends" with the woman he loves was just too much. The sexy dancing, the nighttime cuddles, the intense bonding that these two do, and Chu is just way to stubborn for his own good.

A definite plus is that we get a lot....a LOT of Nova and Tino. Now I'm on pins and needles waiting for thier books to come out, and I'm trying to tone down my fervor because I hate it when I build a book up in my head. I can't even imagine who is going to deserve Nova. Does he need a badass chick? I almost don't think so. Nova likes to save people. We find out Tino's love interest toward the end of Chu's story, which was cool, but it also opened up a whole slew of questions. Kele Moon is great about using a couple's history and weaving it into the current story. It's never unwelcome either, like so many other books I've read. I want to read the back story as much as the present story.

Anyways, Alaine and Chuito got an epic romance. Intensely intense action scenes, smoking hot love scenes, a healthy dose of humor, and a brotherhood of unlikely boys made for another excellent read. Kele Moon again blows me away!

5 'MMA + gangbanger + mafia' stars

The Slayer is truly one of Kele Moon's best work to date. Not only it has romance, we also have the bromance, family, friendship and some mafiya action. With 495 pages, there isn't a dull moment. Chuito's story covered the 5 years he spent in Garnett up to his current predicament back in Miami, a clusterfuck that also involves the Moretti's family.

We first meet him in Star Crossed and ever since then he is one of the supporting character that can't be ignore. He and Alaine had been the young couple dancing in the background that had me anticipating their story ever since. There are some scenes in The Slayer that overlapped with Star Crossed and Crossing the Line. It goes without saying, there would be spoilers for those books as well. Therefore, it it recommended to read the Battered Heart series beforehand. That is the original series that make me a fan of Kele Moon.

Chuito, a Puerto Rican gangbanger from Miami who had been living in Garnett for the last 5 years to train as a professional MMA fighter. Although he is ready to live his old life behind, his sense of duty make him feels obligated to help out his family back in Miami to solve a feud between the gangs.

Alaine, the preacher-daughter in Garnett who had been pining for Chuito for the past 5 years. When we first met her previously, she appear all innocent and virginal. Chuito and Alaine developed a strong bond since he become her neighbor 5 years ago. Their friendship developed through late night dancing, cooking meals and occasional sleepovers. They both knew they care and love each other, but because Chuito is very much still engage with his criminal life, they both still maintain a platonic relationship. Present time Alaine is as independent and strong-minded as Jules. A woman who decided that she had suffered enough by letting Chuito dictate what he think is best for her. Alaine is finally making a stand and fight for her own love story even if it doesn't end with happily ever after.

Tino, who is Romeo's brother and an ex-enforcer of the Moretti's family who currently retire at Garnett to become MMA fighter. Tino, the passionate Italian, the funny brother, the guy who provide comic relief and masculine enough to cry in public. Tino and Chuito became best friend due to their mutual understanding of their criminal background.

Having a good romance is always my main priority, but I also love the bromance between Chuito and Tino. First half of the book had more focus on Chuito and Alaine's relationship, but during the second half when the shit meet fan, we see more on Chuito and Tino's love for each other that was tested with blood and tears. I was half hoping to see some M/M action and wouldn't even mind for a threesome with Alaine if they are up for it.

Nova, Tino's brother who is the underboss. Nova is character who had been totally hyped up. I mean he is like the superhero of the underworld. For the last 3 books since he was introduced, he is the one who step up over and over again to solve everyone problems. Honestly, my expectation for his book is through the roof. I can't even imagine how Kele Moon is gonna pull it off and give us an epic conclusion that Nova deserve.

I like how Kele Moon interwoven The Slayer story with her Battered Heart series and due to my knowledge of the characters past and history, it make the experience of reading this much more enjoyable. I love seeing the inclusion of all the previous characters that I adore, especially Romeo, Jules, Wyatt and Clay. I like the way Kele Moon include her old characters naturally with actual roles to play, unlike some other series whereby authors felt the need to mentioned all previous couples for no reason other than showing off happiness.

The Slayer is not only a MMA romance, is also very much a mafia romance. The tone is darker compare to Kele Moon previous books with a more intricate plot that involves a lot of parties. Chuito and Alaine story is consider completed for now, but we know the main problem with the Moretti is nowhere near done. With the ending we were treated with, I'm anxious for what is in store for the Moretti's brothers next. Bring on the 100% Grade A Italian!

4-I love Chu-stars!!

Positives first:

I love the bromance between Chu and Tino. They were hilarious together.

Sex was hot.

There were more emotions felt in this one and it was brutal!

First, it really kills me to give this less than 5 stars. I begged for months for an arc and I kinda feel like I'm letting the author down, but I have to go with my gut and I have to be honest. I'm super picky and what I didn't like about this book will prob go over just fine with everyone else. I'll spoiler tag the second one, because really many may not want to know ahead of time. Personally if I would have known, I wouldn't have begged for an arc because now I feel a bit shitty.

First- like book 1 in this series there was way too much Spanish for me.

True she does give you an dictionary in the back of the book, but to flip through every page ruins my flow as a reader. The next book will have a lot of Italian. I'll prob have the same issue.

Second and this was my big one

“To me you’re coke. Fine. Smooth. Perfectly white. Very bad for me, but so fucking sexy I don’t give a shit. It’s worth going down for.”

This was quite the grand impressive read, so much happened and we spent time with all the characters from the Battered Hearts series, which we loved, as well as getting excited about what’s to come from hereon in with our Italian contingent.

“He’s my love story.”

First though we have to say we absolutely loved Alaine and Chu’s love story, because ultimately that is what this was. Set in violence, revenge and family loyalty. This is pure classic Kele Moon, the Author we fell in love with many years ago. We cried an abundance of tears – laughed till our cheeks hurt and got completely caught up in the intense passion. To be honest, by the time we’d finished it felt as if we too had gone through a few rounds in the cage with Chu.

“I was born un diablo, and I’m gonna die one. Devils don’t change; just like angels don’t change. You shouldn’t be in my bed, Mami.”

We loved Alaine, the sweet no nonsense and fierce beauty who has such a huge heart and loves with her very being. No wonder Chu was hesitant to act on his love for her in any other way but friendship, after all, he believes himself to be the Devil and bringing her into his gangster life would taint her pure heart and place her in a position of danger he doesn’t want for her.

‘Gangster tears weren’t ordinary tears. The cut had to be deeper than bone, a hurt that made motherfuckers unrepentant murderers. It ripped open souls and bled out humanity.’

We absolutely loved Chuito; the tattooed bad arsed MMA fighter with a horrific and tragic past still playing into the now. Besides the hard fighting persona of Chuito he had such a beautiful heart and when he does romance it’s the kind that melts you into a puddle on the floor. All we’ll say here is the dancing scenes!!

“Just listen to the music. Close your eyes. Listen to the drums. Feel it. Feel it like a heartbeat. Like life. You want it to be a love song, hear the sex in it. Hold me like I hold you. Like you need me.”

We can’t fault how Kele Moon brought this love story to light. The depth and attention to every detail and emotion was flawless. A perfect balance of harrowing emotion, laughter, pure romance and heat inducing freezer time. When we say Kele brought it all we mean, she brought it ALL!!!

‘She felt like his salvation, like the angel he always thought of her as, but he fucked her like a devil anyway.’

We cannot recommend her Battered Heart series highly enough which is the best place to start to get to personally meet all the characters; then move onto The Untamed Hearts series. You’ll be in for an epic journey of magnificent emotional magnitude. We can’t wait for more to come with Tino and … sigh…. Nova!!! These two mafia hard-men brought an electric passion yes at the same time as having us in fits of laughter. Perfect combo if you ask us!

WOW!! I had heard this book was amazing but I wasn't prepared for how good it was going to be. I laughed, I cried, I didn't want it to end.

Since the previous series, I've been intrigued by Chu. He has a dark past that has him laying low in a small town far away from his hometown of Miami. While hanging out in this town training and MMA fighting he friends his neighbor, Alaine. She's the good girl.

Their devil, angel storyline is hard to look away from. Their love story wasn't meant to be but their chemistry can't be denied.

I didn't expect to get all mushy in this book. But my feelings for these two couldn't be ignored. Such a powerful book. And how it ended... I MUST GO ON with this series. There's so much more to come for all these characters.

THE SLAYER is the second book in Untamed Hearts series. This series is a spinoff series from the Battered Hearts series which is filled with UFC fighters. These are the younger guys we got to meet in that series. I'm looking forward to the next book because it's Tino's. He's the Enforcer and seen as the fun-loving uncle and loyal brother. I can't wait to see what his book has to offer.

”I’m not an angel, and you’re not a devil.”

A gangster and a minister's daughter. Of course! the irony isn't lost upon me.

I first met Chuito in Viper, he was such a conundrum, the missing piece to the entire puzzle. Finally, I got my hands on The Slayer and I was blown away by the intensity and sheer ferociousness of Chuito's character. He is a dynamic lead character. I can simply say his story is the perfect meaning of Hamartia (yes yes, I learnt a new word from a recently read book). Pure unadulterated SIN. Kele Moon's alpha male's are to die for. She knocks them down and builds them up, stronger, fiercer and sexier than your own imagination.

In The Slayer, we're taken to where it all started. How Chuito became a gang leader, the reason for him leaving but never letting go, his rise to fame, his emotional pain through guilt and regret, and all his connections and loyalty to his family.

Moving away from his former life and starting over, he meets his neighbour Alaine. They both use their apartments as a form of escapism for differing reasons. A mix of light and dark, Chuito and Alaine show that, opposites do attract.

Alaine and Chuito have a strange bond. They've become friends of sorts and sometimes find themselves dancing the night away, or simply spending time with each other in comfort. Their relationship built in the pitch dark of the night and from there onwards, they have been battling their attraction. Mostly, Chuito, because Alaine is all in, despite the dangerous man in front of her. See what bad dreams can do for people. Being just neighbours isn't enough for Alaine though, and Chuito, doesn't want her to want him. He isn't good enough for Alaine.  He knows exactly who he is, and what he was and still can be. He craves the danger, the excitement of the "kill."

He was a devil.

In the midst of their love story, a shitstorm is brewing within his old gang. It soon takes a turn for the worst, with Chuito forming new alliances in order to protect his cousin, and his old gang. Alaine follows him, wanting to stop him from leaving her and from the lurking danger that she recently learns about.

Alaine, even though the meek, preacher's daughter, this girl had a head on her shoulders and a determination that rivaled Chuito's and she was a persistent little redhead. She never gave up on him. At every turn Chuito has blocked her, but she persevered. Their love story isn't quick and brash. It's slow burning. A tumultuous barrage of feelings that even though known, is still bottled. Waiting to be released. An explosion waiting to happen.

"I am not going to be your love story. I am your friend. I'll be your friend until I die, but I am not going to give you a happily ever after."

This instalment was raw and gritty, pure darkness on the inner dealings with gang life and demons faced through the life. It was an intense read with details that opened my eye and brought silly smiles to my face. By far the best instalment to date. Can't wait to see what Kele Moon has install for Tino.

A very plot driven MMA, mafia and gangster romance.

I will be honest initially I was slow to get into it, the very first few paragraphs.

But once I did, I loved it.

It had angst, romance, character development, mafia, bromance, gang laws etc., steam, MMA.. and some heartbreaking moments 😭.

The Hs and hs love was beautiful! ❤️

I really loved how strong the h was and the amount of inner strength she had to not be a doormat. Whilst H was also loyal to a fault even when he thought he could never be with her initially. I am not always a big fan of "can't be with her for her own good" but here I understood and it worked. It felt nicely knitted into the plot and seeing/reading it made you understand it.

There were a lot of supporting characters, I was worried they may overpower the story, but they didn't for the most part and I am actually keen to check out other stories in this series.

“I’d rather be in hell with you than anywhere else without you.”

Kele Moon is by far one of my favorite authors. Her strong characters, descriptive writing, and well developed story lines keep me engaged from the very first page to the very last. The Slayer did not disappoint! Although it can be read as a stand a lone, I highly recommend reading Crossing the Line and The Viper before reading The Slayer.

description

Chu is a fighter, gangster, Catholic, killer, and an all around "bad ass" puerto rican. Deeply entrenched in gang life, he has done his best to break away. Chu settles far away from Miami in the small town of Garnet. He only wants to become a successful cage fighter and be absolved of his sins.

Chu thinks of himself as a devil. Imagine his surprise when he discovers an angel lives next door.

"Chuito was honestly at a complete loss for words. This town was crazy. Completely insane. It was like he had landed on another planet. No way would someone like her end up living together so intimately with someone like him in his world. Not if she had any male who cared about her."-Chu

Alaine is the sweet red head that lives next door. The daughter of the town pastor, she is expected to get married and have babies. Alaine wants nothing to do with that life. She is determined to go to law school and be an independent woman. When she meets Chu, she falls madly in love.

He is tormented by nightmares from his past. She begins to come to his apartment at night in order to comfort him. They become friends. They laugh, cry, share, cook for each other, and spend the night in the same bed. Though they are so different, they fit perfectly together. Chu won't allow anything to happen past friendship with her. He just won't allow his darkness to tarnish her.

“Love me. Don’t be in love with me,” he warned her. “You wouldn’t want to be in love with me.”-Chu

Time passes and Alaine remains in love with Chu. She tries to date other people but it just doesn't work out. It isn't Chu.

description

Chu loves Alaine but he won't yield. He takes care of her. He teaches her how to dance. He protects her from a far.

"He had loved her for a long time. He had wanted her longer than that, but he had always believed there was some prep driving a Corolla and wearing penny loafers destined to take her innocence."-Chu

Finally, Chu gives into his desires and takes Alaine to bed.

"She could feel it when he touched her. She could taste it in his kiss, and she could sense it as he worshipped her body with his lips. Making her feel beautiful in a way she hadn’t with the others."-Alaine

Once the connection between the two is made, it cannot go back to the way things used to be.

"She kissed him like a criminal. And he loved it."

description

Once Chu opens up to Alaine, she is brought into his world. He bares his soul to her and she accepts every piece of him.

"He certainly couldn’t walk away from her now that she was neck-deep in the mafia. Nova would need her in. For life."-Chu

When Chu and Alaine are finally able to be together freely, everything is made right!

"It made her appreciate him as more than just someone who had stolen her heart so long ago. She appreciated him as a man. As a warrior. In a way, she supposed she appreciated him as a criminal too."-Alaine

Chu and Alaine have many obstacles to overcome. Chu is swept back into the gangster world and has to rely on his Italian Mafia friend Nova to help him out. All the while trying to save Alaine from drowning in sin and violence. I would love to tell you more about the story but I think it's best to go into this one blind. Just jump in and enjoy the ride!

“It feels so good to finally be able to love you. To hold you.”-Alaine

The Slayer is one hell of a good read! It was jam packed with action, romance, and plenty of steam. Chu and Alaine were both interesting characters and the way their story weaves together will leave you wanting more! Don't waste any more time...read this right now!

description

"Because despite his flaws, his commitments, all the darkness and danger…this woman loved him enough to spend eternity with him."-Chu

We first meet Chuito and Alaine in The Viper (which I fucking LOVED). Chuito was an asshole and I couldn't wait to read his story and watch him get taken down by a woman. This book starts in the present but flip flops through past and present to give us a real insight of Chuito and Aliaine's relationship.

Chu is a drugged out, gang banging thug whose on his way to MMA stardom. Alaine is a college student studying to be an attorney. Her father is a preacher who wants her to give up her dreams of a better education and settle down with a nice church going man.

Chu and Alaines back story is really good. But there is so much more to this than just Chuito and Alaine. This book is an intricate web of people and story lines. Los Corredores, Italian Mafia, MMA, gang wars and even a little BFF bromance. This book is hot, sexy, funny and just all around good. Kele Moon is a sexpert at writing her sex scenes. Oh... my... GAWD! They are hot!

"To me you're coke. Fine. Smooth. Perfectly white. Very bad for me but so fucking sexy I don't give a shit. It's worth going down for."

"I'm gonna draw this out as long as possible." He confessed like it was a sin. "Cause taking what isn't mine gets me off."

description

The humor! LOVED IT! It was perfectly hilarious and well timed.

"You just told me you manscaped. You're fucked up too."
"It's a common courtesy," Tino went on. "No woman wants to suck on a hairy dick."

"She's not gonna need feminine products," Tino said with a bark of laughter. "I guarantee you she's pregnant after last night."
"Motherfucker-" Chuito started with a glare.
"I'm just saying," Tino said with another laugh. "It sounded like she got pregnant."

There are some parts of this book that I felt seemed to drag. Since I never read the Battered Hearts series, I wonder if that has anything to do with it. There are a lot of details that, to me, felt like a set up for books to come or it was details to explain the previous series? Either way, it was a lot and I felt myself spacing off some and having to reread. This could also be personal since I'm in a bit of a book funk. So, I'll let you decide how you feel about that. :)

Overall, I enjoyed it. There are a lot of laugh out loud moments. The sex and action were spot on amazing and gave me heart palpitations! Some of the details left me spacing a little but I do believe they are all very important to the story. Kele Moon is an extremely talented writer and I would HIGHLY recommend anything she writes.
