A quaint town and its denizens are a perfect background for their 2nd chance💕 January 26, 2019 Format: Kindle Edition 👍👍 Well-written, with a 💞second chance romance that goes through its ups and downs and long-term separations, and an all-out hunt for a beloved child separated from her teenage mother in the 1940's. Thoroughly enjoyable and touching with an actual abundance of second and even third chance mojo.
This story is part of a series centered on the sons of a wealthy family and the other inhabitants of Magnolia Falls, on a coastal island in the Southeast U.S.. Preston, the hero in this one, is a bit of a fixer, which is a great strength in the bucket list business he runs with his brothers; in his personal life he takes anonymous "fixer" actions that, to his credit, he believes will help. He learns the hard way that his behind the scenes manipulations are not always appreciated! Heroine Victoria prides herself on her independence and nascent success as a baker and caterer. Sometimes she pushes that independent streak too far, but she's got Alex, business partner and roommate, who supports her but is not shy about calling her out on occasion. He's a true friend and provides some comic relief as well.
The mystery of Eleanor's adopted child is a great addition to the plot. It also helps promote the relationship between Preston and Victoria, the girl he left behind.
There are some 🔥steamy encounters; plenty of💝 romantic gestures, cozy 🎀holiday traditions, decadent🍰 baked goods; a few cute 👶babies; supportive family and friends; and a Hanukkah gathering that can't be beat for drama and climactic joy. Lovely☺👍
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Preston & Victoria have known each other since they were kids. Victoria’s family worked for Preston’s parents and all the kids grew up together. Preston always had a little crush on Victoria, but somethings happened and he left after college and they haven’t had any contact in several years. Preston is back in town for the holidays and he runs into a mutual acquaintance of his and Victoria’s and he finds out that she has a catering service so he decides to host a party. When Victoria and Preston finally run into each other it’s just like old times. They begin to spend time together and realize that the feeling they had all those years ago seem to still be there. Preston has a few secrets he needs to tell Victoria, but things are going so good he just doesn’t want to rock the boat. What will happen when she learns the secrets he had been hiding? Will they be able to make the relationship last? This was my first book to read from R. S. Lively and I really really enjoyed it!!! I felt it had good supporting characters in the book and I thought story line was good. I especially liked the setting and the small-town atmosphere. I received an ARC copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.

The lead female character is Victoria. She is sensitive, intelligent and gifted. She has her own business and has plans in her mind to increase business and expand. Since she was a little girl, she has had a great affection for Preston. They grew up together. Their lives intersected on and off for years. Preston is an entrepreneurial. He started a successful business with his three brothers. He is bright, creative and resourceful. Every year the four brothers come home and spend the holidays with their parents. Preston has always felt drawn to Victoria but this year he finds her irresistible. They begin their emotional journey toward getting in touch with their feeling for each other. A wonderful story. I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Definitely many mistakes in this book. I have read a number of books by this author and this is by far the worst. By the end of the book I really wanted to give it only one star but I reserve that for books that are so bad I am not able to complete. So many typos! Details from other characters in other books that just felt like filler material. Actually plot for this book consisted of about only 20%. Victoria is is so inadequately depicted she comes across as a hypocrite. Detail after detail about baking but very little about main character development. If you have KU you may want to read or scan this book. Otherwise you are throwing what little money it does cost away. Lively is capable of much better work. This author should be ashamed to put their name to this book. Not sure how these authors are financially compensated for poor work, but I feel they need to pay me at least minimum wage for having read it.
I am volunteering to leave a review of this ARC book. Book two in the Magnolia Falls series. Another brother "falls!" Preston and Victoria, from very different upbringings, like each other a lot as kids. A misunderstanding drives them apart and they both go off to build their own businesses. When home for the holidays, Preston bumps into Victoria. The old chemistry flares again. As the title suggests, The Mistake happens. Journeying with Preston and Victoria was entertaining. Steamy sometimes, funny sometimes. The story-line flowed well, and it was difficult to put down. Loved the length of the novel. Gave plenty of time to delve into P & V's life. R.S. does a great job providing background on the supporting characters too! Can be read as a stand-alone, but wonderful to get an introduction to the next primary characters. Wonder who that will be!
Preston grew up having a crush on Victoria and they were best friends. But when he is home and she is upset over a boyfriend, they share a special moment, but when things get mixed up, they get very mixed up. Several years later, Preston has to return home for his family. But when he hears Victoria is in town and started her own shop, he can't resist but to seek her out in any way possible. Will she give him a chance? Can they get over their past?
Victoria is the housekeeper's daughter, but that did not stop her from being best friends with Preston. When she finally kisses her crush and then he disappears, she is devastated. Will they be able to reconnect after all this time? What will happen with the truth comes out?
Such a great book, you will not be disappointed. This is full of love, lust, romance and second chances. I received an ARC of this book from the author.
What a deliciously, angst filled romance R.S. Lively has given us in "The Mistake". The characters are so relatable and even though they have their faults and have to continue to grow in order to realize it they are completely lovable. Preston and Victoria are the quintessential friends who are polarized when it comes to talking things through, so imagine the miscommunication angst that follow. The supporting characters, OMG don't get me started on Alex, he's a hoot!!, are part of the joy this book will leave you with. It's not just one or two, but we have families and an entire community that will just charm you through and through. This was an easy read that was so great it just left me with the warm and fuzzies.
This is a wonderful, sweet romance & an enjoyable read. The plot is well-thought out and written with characters that is well-developed with individual personalities that have realistic emotional feelings & reactions. There is: a son of a powerful family & owner of a bucket list concierge service (Preston), a woman & daughter of the hired help trying to expand her gourmet shop (Victoria), her caring friend & business partner (Alex), intrigue, some twists & turns, drama, humor, secrets, memories, friendship, attractions, old family issues, misunderstandings, manipulations, emotional turmoil, an unexpected surprise, anger, deceit, judgmental, apologies, happiness, contentment, love and some steam.
Welcome back to Magnolia Falls, a quaint small town and the hometown of the four Laurence brothers. In The Marriage Mistake (Book 1 in the series), you were introduced to Grant and Emma. In The Mistake, you are introduced to Preston, aka The Fixer. Money guru behind Dreamworks and all around good guy. It's been ten years since he walked away from Victoria and he vows not to let that happen again. Just like in real life, his behind the scenes meddling doesn't help him at all and a secret from the past may just ruin it all.
An entertaining story, a second chance at love, a touch of steam and laughter, added with realistic and flawed characters makes The Mistake an unputdownable read! Although, I did mention this was the second book in the Laurence boys story, it can also be read as a standalone. I do highly recommend starting with The Marriage Mistake though! I'm excited to see which Laurence brother we read about next!
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book. I loved this book. Victoria and Preston have been friends since they were kids and one day a kiss changed everything for them and Preston was gone. As fate would have it, it put Preston on the path back to Victoria, well he kind of helps fate along. The feelings are still there for both of them but there has been misunderstandings, misconceptions, secrets and small white lies. As these two grow closer it’s getting harder to keep the truth from Victoria, what happens when she learns the truth from someone else? Can Preston make her understand? Loved this book, highly recommend it.
Victoria and her friend Alex are trying to get her business rolling for the holiday season. She owns and works her bakery almost 24/7. When Preston catches Alex on his property getting nuts from their trees he learns that Victoria is back in their hometown. A Misunderstanding kept Victoria and Preston apart when they were younger. However Preston was going to claim her for his own this time. But will his secrets keep them apart this time around?
This is a great story once I started it I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend it to any book lover.
I chose rating because I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed all of the characters. This was a book about finding your first love again. Picking up where you all left off. That's what was also about being a good person and doing something for the one you love. I also liked it when Preston and Victoria got together. I didn't like the part where she kept her pregnancy from Preston, because he was the dad. She stopped seeing him for not being honest with her. Eventually they got back together. Everything worked out though with Preston and Victoria. Great read! I recommend this book to all romance readers.
Preston and Victoria have loved each other since teenagers, but were separated by a misunderstanding. Years later they reconnect, and the attraction is still as intense as it always was. This is a well written flawless story, which is a sweet second chance romance, and I was totally captivated throughout this addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author, whose work I highly recommend for all. I voluntarily reviewed advanced copy from the author for an honest review.
This is a second chance romance that takes place almost 10 years after. A misunderstanding kept them apart and now they are finding their way back.
The story was well written, with both main characters and all the secondary characters likeable. But it was too long and draggy with too many inner monologues with barely minimal interaction between the couple. Also, I felt I was missing some kind of a background into the whole setup/town/family. If there are other books in the storyline, I would probably check them out eventually. Overall, it was an ok read.
Continuing the story of the Laurence brothers The Mistake is a book that many can relate to at one point. Victoria grew up as the daughter to the “hired help” who was crushing on the wealthy son, Preston. She was insecure, like any normal teenager, and when something finally happened between them it was ruined by misunderstandings. Years later their story continues but carrying the shadows of the past. It was great reading Victoria and Preston’s story with several characters from Marriage Mistake and a big surprise. Victoria grew as a person and found happiness in her life.
The story of Preston Lawerence and Victoria solve a mystery from book one. There are a few mistakes this couple makes but I don’t agree on how Victoria handles it. A young adult tried to do something nice and I understand being upset at first but she didn’t let it go and really made the couple suffer for it, then she does something 10 times worst. Preston’s reaction time is very surprising. Good story that pulls at your emotions, you may agree or disagree with me but that is what a good book does, takes you through twists and turns with your emotions.
After all the rocks and waves that they induced to get their happily ever after!! She made me mad that she didn’t tell him about the pregnancy!! She was mad I get that but that wasn’t an excuse to be that way to Preston! That ending thought to find out that the connection Emma felt with Klein and Eleanor was because she was their granddaughter! And that the baby she named after their lost daughter!!! I was in literal tears!!! Wow just wow!!! This story was better than the last!!!
Such a perfect second chance love story. Preston and Victoria were meant to be but misunderstandings and distance had left things unsaid and memories of love lost. When Preston comes back to town he knows Victoria is still in his heart, but it is just to late. For Victoria it is hard to see him knowing he left without a goodbye. Or did he? Secrets are harmful and not opening up to each other was a lesson hard learned. A great book with great friends and family and an amazing happily ever after.
An enjoyable, entertaining and romantic well written story. Its a second chance between a poor girl and the rich boy. This intriguing journey of self discovery as they wirk thru issues and overcome the challenges that face their relationship after one night. The characters are well developed but flawed with amazing sexual tension and chemistry. A must read that had be engrossed from the beginning. I voluntarily reviewed this ARC
I enjoyed this second book in the series heading to 3rd and final after reviewing this story. Loved Preston and Victoria's story not cover to cover as 1st in series. I became mad for awhile at Victoria her thoughts wanted to kick her lol. She finally work up hence the 4 instead of 5 stars. Loved seeing whole Laurence family again hope more books are written on the last three brothers. Read the book it will draw you in and you will enjoy the ending very much.
Unrealistic.......a baby less than 3 months sitting up in a bouncy seat holding a gingerbread cookie? Having sex after having a baby, you are breastfeeding and no mention of post birth body issues......insecurities? Then the outrage on both sides feels stupid. Then you gloss over meeting the family for first time. It made for a boring and totally unbelievable story. I am amazed I finished the book at all.

Preston and Victoria were childhood friends but things happen and they went their separate ways as they got older. But then Preston came home for Christmas one year and they reconnected. And things changed. I read this book last night until I was blurry eyed simply because it was that good! Totally loved it!!
This well-written storyline has a long-standing crush between the help's daughter and the employers' son. The defined heroine is smart, capable, and sensitive while the H is privileged, sexy and has been a long time friend of the h. There is plenty of miscommunication, drama and equally great secondary characters. I loved it. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.
I found this story a little slow going but perserverance will be richly rewarded. If you have not read the first book in this series it is a good idea to do so before starting this one as there a twist inhere that will have you grabbing for the tissues. Well worth the read.
I received this as an arc and I am giving my honest review voluntarily
Preston and Victoria have know each other since they were children. Both have been fond of each other. By fate things happened. If it was fate, that is. It was a good story with a lot of twists and misunderstandings and stubbordness. Maybe a bit to much stubbordness in some cases. You should follow your own rules - that’s all I say.
Another well written RS Lively story. This one has very likeable characters that truly belong together. The chemistry is almost touchable but they’ve know each other for years. This holiday they find the heat turned up as they find a way to keep each other. Smooth flowing with great secondary characters that I hope we see stories for and a great HEA. (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC).
