I honestly don’t know how she does it. Her short stories are just brilliant. She can capture a character’s qualities in a single panel, and knows just which buttons to push to get a satisfying story that is both insightful and hot. My favorite in this is without a doubt the title story, but the others were fun to read (or re-read, one was previously published in 夢見る星座) as well.
For those who were wondering, this almost concludes my catching up on unread manga for now. I’ll start a re-read of No.6 tomorrow and then I’ll wait until a couple of new books by my must-read mangaka are out.
This one has 神率 of 48.7% on Chil-Chil. Overall 4⭐️
Although Kusama Sakae sensei has been drawing BL manga for two decades, I’ve actually only read a few of her work. She has distinct drawing style for sure, the lines are hard and rough like pen sketch, and the characters have angular face shape and simplified facial features… So I rarely find any of her characters beautiful although some supposedly have super attractive looks.
I have difficulty reading her work because I’m not used to her storytelling style, very focused on the story content and less so on emotional development. It can be too abstract and hard to understand at times and I have to reread it carefully. I much prefer Nakamura Asumiko sensei’s flowy lines, clean panel layout and simple dialogues.
Anyway, this book is a compilation of 4 short stories.
1st story 表題作 幸せの条件 The first chapter was ok, the uke has been stalking the seme at night, he finally got the chance to invite the seme to stay over for a while when his flat got burned down. I didn’t like the second chapter with uke cross-dressing…
2nd story 同時収録作品 おかしな男 About two high schoolers with opposite personalities, the uke provides tutorial sessions to the seme after school in exchange for seme’s pizza delivery.
3rd story 同時収録作品 されど美しき日々 About two high schoolers on the opposite ends of popularity spectrum, one is tall and good looking and the other one got bullied back in middle school because of his ugly face (rabbit teeth).
4th story 同時収録作品 銀杏のはなし 5⭐️ This is the only story that I liked because it’s very unique! Hundred years ago, two ginko trees got planted in front of a shrine in the mountains. However, because they are both male and cannot cross-pollinate so their life span is limited… One year, one of the trees (seme) bloomed many flowers in the spring and dried up, the other tree (uke) lived alone for many years until he also dried up. They reunited again as wooden tablewares at a grandma’s home, and the two spirits are now dressed in clothes from different eras.
