ORC WORLD: WARNING - You'll never want to go out again...

Rate this book
Tark and Nerk are two Trainee Spies (Level 0) whose only ambition in life is to survive Orc School. If you enjoy doing nothing very much, then Orc School is probably the ideal place for you. There isn’t any homework, because orcs don’t have homes. There’s not much writing, because most orcs don’t need to write.Maths only goes as far as counting up to eight (or sixteen, if they take their boots off). Lessons consist mainly of listening to what the teacher has to say, no matter how boring it is – and trying to stayawake. Staying awake in orc classes is VERY IMPORTANT. Young orclings who fall asleep during lessons end up as school dinners. Discipline is straightforward. There are no detentions and no canes – and nobody ever has to clear litter from theplayground, because there aren’t any playgrounds. And, in the entire history of Orc School, no-one has ever beensent to the Principal’s office. This probably sounds too good to be true – and that’s because it is. There is only one punishment in Orc School – death. Death for being late for lessons, death for talking in class, death for all sorts of things. There are, in fact, 137 separate offences for which an offending orcling might lose his life – and this doesn’t include teachers killing off pupils just because they feel like it. It’s not unusual for a teacher to finish his class without a single student left alive.

My name is Ed Bowie — and I write adventures.

I'm not wedded to any particular genre, but where I can, I've written stories in groups...

The Arctic Trilogy books (VINTERKRIG / SOMMERKRIG / PITERAQ) are all out-and-out action adventures. They've been described as Alistair Maclean stories for the digital age — which I'm pretty OK with.

The Liberation Trilogy (CARNIVAL OF HATE / ACT OF MALICE / PURSUIT OF EVIL) are historical adventures set in the last months of the Second World War. They're rather more layered and thoughtful — but still very fast-paced.

At the moment TOTALITY stands alone. It's a complex adventure, aimed at people who really love a historical thriller. It's an accessible read — but it will have your head spinning. I'm working on the second story in the series THE RULE OF ISFET — but it's tough going because the people who love TOTALITY have very high expectations.

On a much lighter note, I've just released a children's book ORC WORLD — which is a lot of fun, in a naughty, slightly gory way.

MANDELMAN — which comes out next month, is a fantasy adventure, set in a world which is perpetually at war. I'll let you know a bit more about it nearer the time...
