Simple repetitive sentences designed to get kids started with reading. There isn't any story to it, just cute and funny pictures of Cody the dog eating lots of random items... Including poop! (This is why I have cats, fyi.)

Anyway, if your kid is very young and/or just starting out on their reading journey then why not give it a try!

I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own - and well - my four year old daughters.

I am an avid reader of Christian fiction, and while browsing for appropriate books on NetGalley, I came across some appealing children's books. I immediately thought that this would be an interesting and innovative way to read to my four-year-old daughter. A couple of books by Brenda Ponnay were available for request so I thought I would give it a try.

Cody Eats Everything is a fun and somewhat strange book about a dog that eats - well everything! It was colourful and easy to follow. My daughter's favourite part was getting to guess what Cody would eat next! (Oh...jam...by the way). Brenda Ponnay's way of getting the children involved with the story makes it a fun read.

Thank you Brenda Ponnay.

This book was received as an ARC from Xist Publishing in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

This book was so adorable. Our kindergarten classes will love this book and will love the pictures. Cody is just so cute and the book was very adorably funny.

We will consider adding this book to our J Picture Book collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

Cody’s a dog that’ll eat everything, including rocks. And poop.
This isn’t really a story, just a list of what this crazy dog will eat. Might have been shorter to list what he doesn’t, if anything. This is for really little ones to learn to read, with easy words and plenty of repetition. Simply drawn as well.

Its about a dog Cody who loves to eat everything for kids who are starting to read. Illustrations are good. The last page has an option for the kids to fill in for "Cody eats ____" and fun.

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the eARC.

A good book for young readers, it has repetitive phrases which will allow an early reader to recognize words that are beyond their vocabulary and reading level. This story could also be good for introducing dogs to children who maybe unfamiliar or not around them very much.

This is part of a series of early readers. The text is very simple, yet appealing in its easy repetition. The illustrations are amusing and bright.
Young readers will be entertained by learning about the things that Cody is happy to eat and will enjoy the success of reading on their own. . Adults will appreciate the short section on using this book with a child. All in all a fun read for everyone.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for this e-galley. The opinions are my own.

This is a great first reader about a dog who eats everything. It reinforces the words “Cody” and “eats” since every page begins with those words. The third word on the page changes. This helps the child not to become bored when reading this book.

The illustrations in this book are simply but cute. They are colorful and show Cody eating all the different things he eats. The help to show the reader what Cody is eating which may assist in them sounding out the word.

I could have probably lived without knowing that Cody eats poop but my five-year-old grandson thought it was riot even if a bit gross. The sentence “Cody eats _____” is at the back of the book with a suggestion to fill in the blank and draw Cody eating it. The same grandson immediately jumped up and wanted to know where some paper was so he could begin his drawing. Since children are the target audience, I would say this book is a hit.
