Blue River is abuzz with excitement. A traveling acting troupe is putting on a play in the small town and a gorgeous, well-known actor is the main character. Charlotte and Ally Sweet are flat out making chocolates for the visiting crowds and actors. Then Charlotte gets roped into putting chocolate making on hold and she reluctantly agrees to act in the play. But that turns out to be the least of Charlotte’s worries when someone ends up dead and her friend, Jeff, is implicated in the murder. Ally and Charlotte with the help of their pot-bellied pig, Arnold, and feline friend, Peaches, wade through a mountain of suspects to clear Jeff’s name and find the real culprit. But is Jeff really hiding something? Ally and Charlotte are in a race to find the murderer before someone else’s final curtain is lowered. Recipe Devil’s Food Cake
This is the fourteenth book in the Chocolate Centered Cozy Mystery Series. A play has arrived in Blue River. Charlotte and Mrs. Bing have both volunteered for a minor role in the play. When Mrs. Bing falls and breaks her ankle leaving Charlotte alone to volunteer. Charlotte talks her boyfriend, Jeff, into helping with the play by being a stage hand. It's opening night and everyone in town is at the play to watch the star, Martin Everly and Henry Fines (who had the lead role until Martin agreed to be in the play). During one of the acts there is what appears to be an accident. As the police investigate they feel it is a murder. Henry and Jeff are the main suspects. Ally and Charlotte step in to do their own investigating to clear Jeff. Ally tries to keep her boyfriend, Luke, in the loop as he does the investigating for the police department. Cindy Bell does a great job of keeping you guessing who really did it. There is humor with Peaches and Arnold coming to the rescue. A must read for cozy mystery readers. I received an ARC. This is my voluntary review of the book.
Arnold and Peaches came through again. For someone like Ally who has so much trouble, it’s lucky for her she’s got someone she can depend on to get her out of sticky situations.
In this read there were numerous suspects of the murder and although I did suspect one person more than the rest, I still questioned that it was them all the way until the very end. Is the killer Jeff? Abraham? Jill? Leanne? Henry? You’ve got to read to find out!
Although it’s better to read this along with the rest of the series, it still works as a standalone.
Next in this 21 book series is Cinnamon and a Corpse (A Chocolate Centered Cozy Mystery Book 15).
Charlotte's granddaughter,Ally, is happy to get her Mee-Maw out of her comfort zone when she agrees to be an extra in a local platy with a famous star. It ceases to be comfortable when the star is actually murdered in the killing scene. Ally's boyfriend is the local detective--and Charlotte's friend is one of the suspects. So, Ally and Charlotte investigate. A well-thought and very interesting story with delightful characters.
As always, the chocolates leave my mouth watering. The murder, in this case, was classic, but the murderer and reason we're not apparent until discovered by Allie at the very end of the mystery with a positive resolution. I always enjoy these characters and their interaction, and the village is fascinating and charming. Kudos, Cindy Bell, on another success.
I'm enjoying all of Ms Cindy Bell's stories! I have read all her stories as fast as she can write them. I love her characters and the way she is so clever at creating her mysteries, I can never finger them out positively till the end, darn-it! Thank You Ms Cindy........
This series just gets better and better and I just love it. Ally and her grandmother, Luke, Ally's boyfriend the three old ladies and other town people are all well written and just the kind of people you would like to stop and have a coffee with. The story line was good with fast paced action, and a few kisses in between.
I love this series by Cindy Bell and I can't wait for the next book if you love a great cozy with characters you will love and a story that keeps you turning the page then this series is a must read
All the reading about chocolate makes cravings impossible to ignore. Add a murder to the (cake) mix, and I'm in heaven. Good story and suspect well hidden until near the end. Can't wait for next book in series!
I do love these main characters including Arnold and Peaches. I couldn't figure out who the murderer was until the very end. It's nice to have Mrs. Bing and her friends back in another story. Thank you.
Who really killed Martin and why - or why not??? A lottery ticket??? Thank you, Arnold and Peaches, for all your help!!! I enjoyed this story and recommend the book.
