I initially loved the first book but found myself struggling more with it towards the end. In this book I had the opposite problem, I initially struggled but loved the end.

The Eve Illusion starts right where the first book finished. Eve and Bram fight for her freedom from the life she has been forced to live. But, is it possible for her to ever be truly free and is she safe from those who want her for their own gains?

I struggled to get into this book initially. I had forgotten who one of the characters was, although that was quickly rectified as they played a large role in this book. I don’t know if it was my mood when I picked this up, but I found the plot was slower and less exciting than the first book. That being said, things started ramping up around half way through and continued to improve for me as the book went on. The last handful of chapters really blew me away and had me feeling all sorts of emotions.

Although I had guessed the twist during the first book, I still felt excited when all was revealed. I found some parts to be so incredibly moving that my heart ached. I really love the unique concepts that are used in these books, the use of memories in this one had the psychologist in me absolutely enthralled. Overall, I found the ending so strong that it has made me super excited for the final book to be released. I cannot wait to find out what happens to all the characters and to return to this dystopian world.

I recommend these books to fans of YA dystopian/science fiction reads.

This is not my usual genre of choice and last year I kept hesitating to read Eve of Man but I eventually did and LOVED it, loved it so much - it was left on such a cliffhanger that I’ve been impatiently awaiting The Eve Illusion ever since!

It starts with an recap of how Eve of Man ends which is ideal if you need your memory jogging. It literally starts right back up where the first book ended. And man, I love Eve.

This instalment if this series is a lot darker and more emotional than Eve Of Man, dare I even say better? Yep, I said - it’s better! I loved this from start to finish and yet again, another cliffhanger as we wait for Book 3 - please don’t be long!

In a genre as saturated with dystopian fiction as Young Adult, Tom and Giovanna Fletcher have managed something which is becoming increasingly difficult to do: they’re created a world that’s unique, and a story which feels fresh and exciting with each turn of the page.

Thanks to the futuristic setting and the constant swapping of the narrator, the series continues to hold my interest. I usually find novels written by more than one writer to be hard to read, but their voices gel in a way that feels natural and fluent. Maybe duel-written novels should be reserved for married couples... although I don’t want to be responsible for the likely spike in divorce rates. Maybe we should just leave it to them just to be on the safe side.

I always find it hard to review sequels, how much can I say? Will I accidentally ruin something? WHY ARE YOU HERE IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THE FIRST BOOK?! Anyway, I’ll do my best.

As I enjoyed the first book so much, I’ve been waiting for this to be published for a while; so being sent a copy with the chance to finally find out what happens to Eve and Bram next after was an excellent moment of lockdown.

The sequel dived straight back into the world of the first breaking stride, giving us a brief reminder of how the last novel ended by reliving events from a different perspective, allowing the reader to get their bearings without feeling bored. The characters' development within such a fast-moving plot is superb and at no point do any of them feel lost or underdeveloped. This is helped with the addition of another narrator which adds a new depth and offers an unbiased view – which added greatly to my enjoyment. This third perspective starved off an issue I tend to have with second books in this genre. Sometimes authors struggle to keep the pace going in a way that matches the shoulder books of the trilogy. The added perspective kept the book hurtling forward and I struggled to put it down, only pausing to move to the kettle. Seriously, I read it in an afternoon.

I’m frustrated by the lack of clarity in the ending as a cliffhanger was not what I desired as a reader, but I can 100% see why they’ve decided to do it. I can’t wait to go out and pick up the third one sometime... hopefully when I’m allowed out the house again.

In the meantime I cannot recommend this series enough. Order it, download it (or save it until you can go and buy it physically).

sigh
Guys, I'm not angry, I'm disappointed.

FYI, this was my most anticipated book of 2020 and look what happened.
I think we can honestly say that 2020 is just an all-round steaming pile of shit.

I waited so long for this sequel, I pre-ordered it, counted down the days, followed the authors on Instagram and...well.
It's incredibly boring. This book put me in a slump because not only was it slow but I was forcing myself to read it because I felt like I had to read it.

Newsflash - I don't.

Eve and Bram just feel like completely different characters (and I don't mean in a development kind of way, although they did develop. Just not in the way I hoped), the writing felt different to the first one and I don't particularly care for the new POV (Michael). I understand the reasoning for adding the new POV as we need someone in the EPO to help us follow what's happening there but uggh. I think I stopped caring.

Bram became possessive, Eve became boring, there isn't much dialogue (from where I got up to anyway) and I grew tired of the endless pages of Eve just talking in her head and describing her environment. I'm sorry Eve but I don't care. I need more action!

I've waited so long for this sequel and I ended up DNFing.

Welp.

I won't be continuing with this series unfortunately but don't let that put you off. I have been in a reading slump and many other people enjoyed it more than me, it just didn't work for me personally.
I hope you enjoy it more than I did.

Ever since Eve dramatically escaped at the end of the first book, I have been eager to find out what happens next. The Eve illusion did not disappoint! Jumping straight into action from the very first chapter, a cat and mouse chase begins. The freeevers believe that the deep is a safe residence for now. Eve however feels like she has merely swapped one prison for another, having to stay underground to ensure her safety. What is the point in escaping if she still cannot be free? Discovering her father is being held prisoner in the tower, Eve begins to rebel. She refuses to accept his sacrifice. He really must be saved ...

I feel like the second book is far more sinister. Characters begin to show their true colours and hidden motives emerge. Lots of questions left hanging from the first book are answered and huge discoveries are made. All tied up with a good cliffhanger. Looking forward to book three. 5 stars from me. ✨

It feels like forever since I read the first book in this series (Eve of Man) but I picked it up and was back in tune with the characters in no time. I do think it helps to have read the debut first as we are straight into the story as it starts as the first left off and you're expected to know the characters, who they are & their roles in the story.
Going back to my review of the first book I was frustrated at not knowing how we got to being in a dystopian society. We still don't know this but it felt less important this time around as the story is more on Eve's escape and what she did next. The story flew by & reflecting back to write the review not a great deal actually happened on her and Bram's side of things. Much more character growth this time for Michael.
I was quite fascinated by the level of violence in this one for a young adult book. I suppose it depends on the ages reading it and I was myself a quite mature reader in my early teens but it is graphic. This is actually the angle that I enjoyed the most. We have Michael, the career soldier, his power crazed mad scientist father & the secret part of the dome. More of that was revealed this time around although we need part 3 to really see what's going on there and I get the impression it's not going to be anything nice.
Overall though this one was a bit dull for me. I will read the third so I can see the book to its conclusion but I hope there's more to it than this

This series is always left on a cliff hanger, now I have to read the third! This book is a continuation of the eve of man series. This book was thrilling, a little predictable but very enjoyable.

This is a unique dystopian novel in the view point of Eve, Bram and Michael. The second novel starts off right where the first one left off with a brief reminder of how the first book left off which I appreciated since I read these a year apart.

This book does a good job at keeping the pages turning, I had trouble stopping especially toward the end although the end left a lot of questions to be desired but I can understand why they ended it the way they did.

I will definitely be reading the third book at some point as once again I need to find out what happens!!

Firstly, I want to say thank you to Netgalley for sending me an early E-ARC of The Eve Illusion. I was so so excited to receive this as I loved Eve of Man so much and it ended on such a cliffhanger that I just needed to know what happened next.

I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED, this book was SO worth the wait. It was one of those books that I finished and I wanted to immediately pick it back up and read it all over again. I will say if you read this book be prepared to be left hanging YET AGAIN. Seriously, Gi & Tom are brutal when it comes to ending their books. I don't know how I'm going to wait to read the next instalment I need to know what happened.

I love the characters in this book, those characters that we learnt to love in Eve of Man return. The stakes are higher, but the character development continues. I didn't think I could love these characters anymore than I already did, especially Bram and Eve but oh my god I love them so much more now. They are such complex, wonderful, strong, loveable characters and I just want more and more from them please!

The plot develops in such a complex and wonderful way. I really enjoyed seeing the authors expand on the plot that they had already built the foundations for. It has been developed so well and in a way that has definitely satisfied the questions that I had from the previous book. I will say, this isn't a spoiler, that one of the worlds in particular that we are introduced to I would have liked to know a little bit more so I could put part of the plot into a little bit more perspective. However, I suppose that is something that I am going to have to wait for in the next book as I believe it is going to be featured greatly. I did enjoy this though.

THE ENDING. I cant even talk about the ending as I am still trying to get over it. COME ON. How am I meant to wait to find out what happens? I did suspect this was going to happen midway through the book, but then so much happened I forgot about this theory so when it came to light I was still taken by surprise. This book is so good guys. I immediately preordered myself a physical copy and I am already anxiously anticipating the final instalment of this trilogy!

A bit of a slower plot. I liked how it picked up straight from the first book, but it definitely could have been a bit shorter. I’m looking forward to reading the final instalment when it comes out!

Wow, wow, wow. This book was AMAZING!!!
The first book sets the scene; however, Eve doesn’t know anything about the world she is living in, but in this one she understands the world she once lived in is not what she thought it was.
Thankfully this book picks up the exact second that the last one did, the only exception being that there is another characters point of view explored in this book: Michael- a loyal EPO soldier. This added so much more excitement to the book as it highlighted the level of indoctrination vs. fear and whether or not the ‘evil people’ in these two books are in reality ‘evil’ or if they are just terrified for their lives and the lives of the lives of the ones they love.
The amount of plot twists in this book is INSANE, my mind was completely blown and I was sped reading to try and find out what else was a lie, but at the same time not wanting to finish it because the next one does not come out for over a year.
The ending was unexpected but also expected, like I thought it would happen earlier in the book, but then as I was reading it I was so focused on the place they were in and what on earth was going on there that I was like oh my gosh what if this other thing happened- I was terrified. Thankfully, the second thing didn’t happen because if it did I would not know how to cope.
Overall, loved this book- so so much better than the first one, unfortunately now I’m sad because I have to wait a year for the next one.

Táto druhá časť ma úplne pohltila a prekonala moje očakávania. A ilúzii. Hlavne o tej ilúzii...

Honestly, when I heard that Eve of Man had a sequel, I kind of thought this was just going to be a meaningless book that was just sort of milking the profit. I couldn’t have been more wrong. While Eve of Man felt kind of like a standalone for me, I’m really glad it wasn’t and since reading The Eve Illusion I’ve realised it probably did need more books. For the sake of my sanity.

I absolutely loved this sequel, it was really interesting and all the characters had such good development. I also loved the addition of a third POV and the subtle set-up of a love triangle. What I will say though is that I realised why I don’t read dystopian books that often. I had about 3 existential crisis’ while reading this. But that doesn’t mean I didn’t like it.

I absolutely loved the first book and have waited for so long in anticipation of the second! I did enjoy this next instalment but felt not as much happened as in the first! There were a few interesting revelations but the overall cliffhanger at the end was to be expected. Looking forward to seeing where they go with the final book!

Zrejme. Ak chceme prežiť, čaká nás boj. S ľudstvom.

Ak ste čítali prvý diel série Dcéra ľudstva, viete, že už päťdesiat rokov sa nenarodilo žiadne dievča. Ženy boli buď neplodné, alebo rodili chlapcov. Jedného dňa sa stal zázrak. Na svet prišlo dievčatko, Eva. Spoločnosť EPO, na čele ktorej stála chladná Vivian, s ňou mala veľké plány. Zatvorili ju do Veže vysoko v oblakoch a obklopili ilúziou dokonalého sveta.

YES YES YES YES. I really needed this book to pull through for me and it really did. Every page of this book was amazing.

I read the first book when it came out in 2018 and was really looking forward to the sequel being released - I actually ended up pre-ordering this although i've only just got around to reading it. I honestly could not put this down; it was absolutely addictive and every page was just as interesting as the last. The pace was maintained throughout the book and there were no parts that felt slow or that deterred away from the main story. The writing of the Fletcher's is so easy to follow and sink into that you'll get through this in a couple of hours.

The plot is also really good; it's simple and yet engaging. It's really easy to follow the world but i'm thinking we've only seen a hint of what this world entails given the ending of this book! I love that it follows on exactly where we left of at the end of Eve of Man; it means we haven't missed anything and we fly straight back into the tension and high stakes.

I honestly did not expect the Fletchers to be so damn brutal! Don't get attached to any character too much because they are not worried about killing them off! I honestly could not believe it every time a character died, I was just waiting for the reveal that actually they're still alive. I think this is the making of a really good book though because it always keeps you on your toes and you never get comfortable in where the plot is going.

I loved Eve in this book; whereas before she's been very much dictated to this time she is the one doing the dictating! She is so strong and she is going to fight for what she believes is right; I love that she doesn't just let Bram sway her and makes it clear she isn't content to just sit back and let them fight for her. I loved their relationship in this book and am intrigued to see how it develops (especially given that reveal at the end!!).

I loved this, and I really needed it after the last sequel I read let me down! Cannot wait until the next installment!!

After reading the first book, I was absolutely itching to get my hands on this one, and now I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for the final one.

The book started with a recap of the first book in the trilogy but introduced a new perspective which was a twist I wasn't expecting, but Tom and Giovanna made the third character just as personal and believable as both Bram & Eve. I struggled to get into this book at first as I found that it was quite slow and there was some descriptions/paragraphs that slowed my reading down a bit, but once I got into it I couldn't put it down.

I found this book a lot darker than the first one, but in a good way as it made the plot more interesting, and there were some twists and change in events that left me shocked. I love what the Fletchers have done with a YA dystopian futuristic setting, almost in a Hunger Games-esque style trilogy and I can't wait to see what they do with the third book.

Eve continues defying the social construct of women being weak and dependent on men which I love, Brams sensitivity and vulnerability makes me warm to him more and the third character's self-questioning and realisation that you shouldn't believe everything at face value without doing your own research was such a refreshing message.

If I put my feelings into a line graph, my enjoyment would be a roller coaster at the beginning that finally soars upward from about the 40% mark.

I super enjoyed Michael's perspective. He was at the heart of the drama and I enjoyed his character development. He's a good bean and I love him.

Eve pissed me off for most of this book, sadly. She turned into the trap so many writers fall into: "a strong female character must be stubborn and force her choices even in the face of reasonable disagreement." The level of worship people had for Eve in this volume was aggravating. I was thrilled when at least one person snapped and called her TOTALLY UNREASONABLE and selfish.

That said, I'm very glad that Bram and Eve are still a strong couple. I really like them as a pairing and enjoy that they've got a lot to learn about respecting each other's space, choices, and concerns.

The villain held back zero punches and I like that. She made threats and followed through with them. Excellent work.

Pretty disappointing in my opinion. There was no real plot and it was actually pretty hard to get through it all, at times I had to force myself to keep on reading. I did however like the character development of Eve which scored this book the third star. I’m probably gonna finish the series anyway, but after this book it’s definitely not one of my favorites.

Good continuation of book 1, I didn't enjoy this as much because, despite understanding where Eve was coming from I thought she acted like a selfish dick.

The ending was very good however and made sense- now to wait with baited breath for book 3!

Absolutely fabulous, an addictive read from page one to end, after the cliffhanger ending of the first book I couldn’t wait to dive right in and I wasn’t disappointed at all. This is as good as the first, and yes it comes with another cliffhanger ending, but you know it’s going to be so worth the wait, because this book was worth the wait. Giovanna and Tom are amazing writers, torturers and magic weavers ! This is a bit darker than the first, but I think even better and I cannot wait for the third book.

One of my favourite reads of the year

I love Giovanna and Tom fletchers individual books and them coming together to write a series is just magical in my eyes.

We follow Eve who finally manages to escape the dome with Bram but is it all what she thought it would be or does she regret what she does…

I loved the first book and am fully routing for Eve and Bram to finally be free and raise a family of their own but will this happen…

This book left on a cliff hanger and I can’t wait to get my hands on the third book to find out if they find their happy ever after and can live their lives free to do what they want.
