Juliet grew up in northern California, where she spent her free time staring at spooky lakes and making up stories about the old buildings surrounding them. Years later, she still lives in California and she still makes up spooky stories…about lakes and the old buildings surrounding them. Like April in April’s Ghosts, she’s terrified of spiders and she’s obsessed with Hamilton. Like Lissa in June's Blood, she plays the piano...but not very well.

SUMMARY
"So you lied to me." “Because I love you. I don’t want you to get hurt, or…or…. I’m not allowed to talk about it.” “Who’s not allowing you? Some kind of ghost king?” Winter will find the treasure; she says the other ghosts aren't even real, then backpedals. “You don’t even look like them. You have a whole body, and a face. They don’t have eyes, or, or mouths, even.” “I don’t share their curse—I got lucky, nothing else to it.” I wondered if curses had much to do with luck. Probably not. In fact, there was probably quite a bit more to the story than he would ever tell me. She leaves, hurt that she's even wondering if Garrett's on her side.

The next day, Rourke texts Winter to come over. Because their mom has no job, they're going to sell their caverns to finance Maureen's art school. Winter tells them she knows there's treasure, she'll divide it with them, she just can't tell them how she knows. They decide to start tomorrow. Winter goes to the cavern to talk to Garrett. He doesn't answer, but Rourke comes down. He's brought a sketch book, his childhood maps of the caverns.

The next day, they explore using Rourke's maps. Garrett's not around. Winter leads while Rourke records. Deep inside, they find graffiti: Emmy Rhodes 1961. Winter's never seen this, which means Garrett didn't bring her here. Winter recognizes the name. They go to the display cases, read about Ms Rhodes, wonder if she made maps.

Winter and Maureen go to the library. Maureen flirts with Shane, Winter heads to the librarians. Emmaline Rhodes; she explored in my caverns and I want to talk to her about them. Emmy is the librarian's great-aunt, she'll call when Emmy is having a good day.

They go down in the caverns again. Still no Garrett, but no others, either. Maureen keeps texting someone. Shane asks her to dinner. They argue about him using her to ask about the caverns. She leaves. Rourke, "I think she's had a crush on him since he first came into Mr. Ibanez's class." "What is it about him? It seemed like everyone had a crush on him at first." "Not you, though." Rourke looked at me briefly before quickly glancing away. "No, not me."

The next day, Rourke's glad Winter didn't have to move. She is, too. She explores, he takes notes. "Maybe we should go to town and spy on them." "Yeah, we just happen to be going on a date of our own, visiting the exact same Italian restaurant." I tried to laugh like that was the most bizarre idea I'd ever heard—Rourke and me on a date—but a small part of me wondered what it would be like.

The next morning, Maureen arrives, crying. Shane did question her about the caverns. The librarian texts to come visit her aunt this afternoon.

Ms Rhodes gives them her journal from that time period. “It’s a record of my explorations. I would like someone with an affinity for the caves to enjoy my records.” Tiny handwriting covered the first few pages. "Keep the book safe, keep everyone safe from the toothless." I looked up at her in shock. When they leave, the librarian, "She hasn't wanted anyone to so much as touch that diary in decades."

EVALUATION
I loved being scared in this series. I enjoyed the fantasy, too, as well as the romance. An easy delightful read. I devoured it.

RECOMMENDATION

FAVORITE QUOTES
“How on earth does her phone work down here [in caverns]?" "Sheer force of will."

[dreaming of winning lottery] “Keeping Lago Caverns is for myself. But maybe I’d also buy a big castle. And,” I added, grinning, “I’d fill it with cats.” Mom, who hated cats, gave me a dirty look. “And I’d call it a catsle,” I said, snickering.

Me: [figured out something]
Maureen: What! That’s so cool! Rourke, did you see this?
Rourke: Why are you texting me, we’re in the same tent.

The past 24 hours, I’d been moping around, waiting for something to happen. Well, that was a recipe for a crappy story if I ever heard one. If I wanted to be the main character in my tale—someone the audience could really cheer for—I needed to *act.*

POSSIBLE TRIGGERS (SPOILERS)
Sex: kisses

CRITIQUE (SPOILERS)
Winter is crazy. She gets kidnapped and almost blown up after being stalked, plus scary ghosts, and doesn't have any PTSD? At all?

Who sets the rules for Garrett?

Why aren't they using a rope to find the way back in case lights go out?

Shane turns out to be a flat character with unresolved history and motives.

Does Winter take business classes or does she go into storytelling?

When Winter finds out that her mom and aunt are still discussing selling Lago Caverns she has to find a way for them to keep it. Winter has been working in the family business ever since she was a little girl. Winter loves doing tours of the caverns and telling ghost stories to their customers. Winter is also in love with one their permeant residents at the caverns a ghost named Garrett.

Winter has an idea of how to save the caverns but it may be too danger for her alone. So when she learns of her best friend’s family’s predicament she enlists their help for her idea. If what she has in mind works out then it could benefit both families but could also put all of their lives in peril.

Winter’s plan to save the family business could also mean she loses her boyfriend Garrett but he has been distance as of late anyways. Garrett is not coming around as much anymore. He tries to tell Winter that she needs to get out more and be with her real, live friends.

Can Winter save the caverns? Will she lose her ghost friend? Can she save the caverns and keep her ghost friend too? What is Winter’s plan? How will she save Lago Caverns?

I love the world of Winter’s Caverns and hearing her tell her ghost stories. When I am reading Winter’s story I can see it playing out in my head like a movie. It’s like having esp and being able to imagine what the author has written of seeing the words come to life in your head.

When I picture Winter I see her with a dress on with a poodle skirt like but without the poodle and flat shoes sort of like ballerina shoes but leather. I can see the caves with the front desk and maybe a little gift shop with customers standing around waiting to be taken on a tour maybe inspecting all the merchandise.

I can picture the lights strung along the top of the cave. I can see the stairs that lead further into the caves and while their walking down the staircase I picture them looking over the side and down further in the cave and maybe it has water running. I can see Winter standing at the top of the staircase telling her ghost stories to the customers before heading down. I can see Garrett semitransparent like he is blinking in and out of existence.

Wicked Regrets is a short read but it reads like a full length novel. It will grab your attention on the first page and pull you into Winter’s world. Whenever I pick up one of Winter’s stories I can’t seem to put it down and have to read it all in one sitting. I can’t seem to get enough of Winter.

If you like reading ghost stories or just looking for a great book to read set in an amazing world with great characters then Wicked Regrets would be that book. I would highly recommend Wicked Regrets to anyone who likes a good ghost story.

A Magnificent Setting for a Fantastic Story!

I did receive an advanced reading copy in exchange for an honest review.

Once again the author has delivered a great book, a finale to another fine trilogy. This is the seventh book that I have read by this author, and have come to the conclusion that anything she chooses to write, I will read.

In Wicked Regrets Ms. Vane completes the Winter’s Cavern trilogy, explaining all the mysteries that have developed in the first two books.

Ms. Vane does an excellent job of weaving a tale in a setting that is at once both fabulous and very different from anything before it. Her characters are believable, consistent, and very relatable.

This book, like all of her previous books, flows at a very steady rate, never becoming boring or dragging, carrying the reader along to a satisfying conclusion.

As with the first trilogy, I am very sad to see this trilogy end, and know I will miss these characters, and the magical, wonderful setting. But on the plus side, with this trilogy Ms. Vane has shown that she is no One Trick Writer but rather is a very skilled author that can change up characters, settings, and everything involved in casting a story and still provide something that is every bit as enjoyable as its predecessors.

And finally, a plea to the author, “Please don’t make us wait too long for the next story!”

What a wonderful wrap up for a series!

Ms Vane weaves such a wonderful tale, much like Winter in this story. Her characters are so easy to relate to and real and the setting of the caverns amazing. It makes me want to explore right along with Winter and her friends. All the creepy from the previous books exists in this one as well. I think that's what I like the most. This is dubbed as a YA series but I'm in my mid 50's and absolutely loved it. Please don't let the YA classification turn you off because the writing is so well done. The series is wrapped up very well and all loose ends are revealed to us. Bravo Ms Vane for this series!!

I received an ARC. This is my honest review.

Sorry to see this series end! Yes it had a good ending, but can't there be more? I wanna know how things go after everything that happened. I won't spoil it if you haven't read it yet. But I really hope the story continues in another series, maybe? The book was a great continuation of the 1st 2 books, Winter learned a lot of things and her aunt got the peace she deserves. This was an excellent book with lots of unexpected twists and turns at the end. Juliet is a wonderfully creative writer, I can't wait to see what her next book has in store for us!
I was given a free copy of this book so I could write this fabulously honest review! Truly enjoyed this book!

Enjoyed

I ended up buying the series. Fun, light reading with a little mystery. I was just fascinated with living right at the caverns and running into them for quiet time.

Winter has a few very hard decisions in this book as it is the last in this series and I still haven't been able to let Winter, Garrett, her Mom and friends go. I wish this series had another three books. Out of all of this series this book will jerk your heartstrings and you really should read it. There is spooky, fun, scary, love, laughter, tears......what an ending.
