Crescent Cove #6

Rockstar Baby

Rate this book
Snowed in rocker makes unplanned baby with saucy waitress. News at 11.

I could see the tabloids now.

Yeah, I play guitar and sing occasionally. But my main role is as a producer for other musicians.

That's why I came to Crescent Cove—to help rockstar Kellan McGuire with his first solo project.

Not to get stuck in a surprise snowstorm with a smart, funny lass with big brown eyes and a very flexible...body.

The next night, I was on a flight back to LA.

I returned to town months later. To help Kellan. Right.

And to lose myself in Ivy again and again, even when the cops tried to thwart us. (They only temporarily succeeded.)

The next time I come back, ready to fight for my woman, Ivy has a swollen belly.

I’ve spent my life running, and second chances come at a price. But I won’t give up until I’ve made her mine. Forever.

Her and our baby.

Author's Note: Surprise! Producer Rory Ferguson is the first character to cross over from our Oblivion World... but he isn't the last! He doesn't start out as a daddy, but his unexpected baby with Ivy will be his biggest production yet.

Author's note part deux: Rockstar Baby is a romantic comedy with a HEA and no cliffhanger.

With Rockstar Baby the very active writing duo known as Taryn Quinn offer up sexy, fun and sweet tale a nomad big city music producer who meets the only woman who’s ever tempted him to put down roots in a small-town.

Rory Ferguson wasn’t happy to be trapped in by a snowstorm in the small town of Crescent Cove when he went to help rockstar Kellan McGuire with music project, but he was very happy when the vivacious Ivy kept him company overnight. It was supposed to be a one night fling, and the only reason he went back to Crescent Cove was because he needed to help out Kellan again. Or so he tried to convince himself.

Rory flounders through a wide range of emotions, but he finally realizes that the smart, funny and gorgeous woman had stolen his heart in the short time they had known each other and the next time he goes to visit her he’s determined to give them a real chance. Things go off the rails when he finds her pregnant with his baby and having to fight twice as hard to get her.

Rory and Ivy are both charismatic characters who got my attention with their quick back and forth and steamy attraction. Even though it was lightning quick, their romance simmers with delicious angst which felt genuine. Along with the main character’s plot, the writers offer up a delightful tale of family and small town ties as well as wonderful updates on the lives of crossover characters from other series!

I can count on Taryn Quinn to make me smile, but particularly when they write about rockstars. Oh the song Rory wrote for Ivy and the Irishman brogue… swoon! I was so enthralled with this couple I practically read this fun and lighthearted read in one sitting.

Rockstar Baby is book #6 of the Dirty DILFs series by writing duo Taryn Quinn. It is a standalone romantic comedy, told from both points of view with a happily ever after, no cliffhanger.

When you’ve been reading authors for a very long time, it is easy to assume it will be hard for them to surprise you, but the writing duo of Taryn Quinn did just that in Rockstar Baby. A chance meeting, undeniable attraction, and a connection neither one can deny made this a book that was impossible to put down.

Rory has no use for small towns in upstate New York especially during a snow storm, but when he stops into the local diner in Crescent Cove, he is immediately attracted to the vivacious Ivy and that attraction is mutual. I seriously love when as a reader you can feel the heat between the characters from the minute they meet and that’s exactly what happened in this book. It was obvious these two were going to burn up the sheets and they did and even going into it with no expectations other that one night they both were left reeling from their time together.

Rory is from Ireland but lives in Los Angeles and he is somewhat of a god in the rock world, working with musicians to make their work shine with his producing and even help with arrangement and lyrics. He works hard and he fully admits he has no time for a relationship, and marriage and family are not in the cards for him. Ivy loves her hometown of Crescent Cove and has a dream of opening her own ice cream shop and she is very close to achieving her dream. She works hard at several jobs all while working towards her goal, but she is lonely and wants nothing more than to find a man to love and eventually give her the family she desires.

On paper Rory and Ivy are complete opposites yet they connect in so many ways leaving them both feeling a bit off balance. I loved that despite Rory’s difficult relationship with his family, he went home when his feelings about Ivy confused him. I admired Ivy for being tough, for making Rory work for her, and also for her compassion towards him.

While this was no doubt this was a love story between Rory and Ivy, fans of Taryn Quinn are treated to cameo scenes with previous couples from this series and others which was made this book all the better. I loved every sweet, sexy, and swoony moment of Rockstar Baby!

Some of the books in this series I've really liked but this one missed the mark for me.

The H who's a producer?/Jack of all trades in the music industry gets snowed in in town and Ivy goes to spend the night with him. They end up spending the next day together and then he leaves

*Side note- this was a big problem for me. I can't be convinced of their special connection if they willingly walk away without exchanging phone numbers. I'd have preferred the usual where one sneaks out for whatever reason rather than this.

A month later he comes back to town and hooks up with Ivy again. This time when he leaves they exchange numbers. Unfortunately the H is a runner. He'd been cheated on when he was younger and it acarred him emotionally. He's a loner and doesn't get close to anyone. So he dodges her calls etc etc until he pulls his head out of his ass and goes back to town and whoops.........baby.

Thankfully Ivy made him work for it this time and again we get an abrupt ending with a bonus epilogue to come via email hopefully soon.

The H wasn't the Alpha possessive, protective hero that I like, the plot was non-existent aside from him running, the secondary characters were unknown but more interesting than the mcs and I was disappointed but I'll still read more in this series.

2.5* because........
The cover
I love unexpected babies
He didn't even look at another woman during their separation
No unnecessary drama
No OW/OM
He had hookups but didn't come across as a manwhore
Ian(secondary character/

Every once in awhile a book comes along that completely blows me away. Rockstar Baby is one of those books. I have always enjoyed Taryn Quinn's books, so I expected an enjoyable read.....I got way more than that. I got a major book hangover and I'm left with so many feels.

Rory is a "rockstar" of sorts. He's more of producer of rock songs, who blows into Crescent Cove during a snow storm. That's where he encounters Ivy. They just fit so well together, right from the start. Their witty banter, their chemistry, they just fit. But Rory, he lives across the country in L.A. and Ivy, she'd never leave her home town, she has dreams.

Gah! This storyline is just written so brilliantly and packed with so many feels. Bonus......Ian Kagan!!

I guess it was ok.
Both main characters stressed me out sometimes because of the way they behaved.
And maybe this is kind of a spoiler... but the girl doesn't find out she is pregnant until the second half of the book. Which is weird because there's a baby on the cover of the book, but whatever.

This was a decent sort & safe read in the respect that there is no OM/OM drama or any cheating. There's not much depth of character development and the plot is one that has been used a gazillion times with a Hero who was deeply in love in the past with OW and deeply hurt because his ex cheated on him so he has become a bit closed off.

This would have garnered at least 4 stars in my opinion if not for all the past ex issues. When I read romances, I read to be invested in the couple we are reading about. I do not want to read how deeply in love & hurt he was with a previous lover because all it does is make be believe that the heroine is just a 2nd choice or rebound!

So I skimmed and overall, folks that don't mind this plot will most likely like it....

“Did you love her?”

“It was young love, but felt real enough to me. Obviously, she didn’t feel the same since she cheated on me.”
------

“Oh, right. Of course. My ma is dying to meet you. Think we can talk about that later though? Talking about my mother while I’m trying to get into your pants is confusing and hurts my head.”

I liked this one, liked Rory and Ivy together, but I hated how Rory held himself apart from everyone. I was glad how towards the end Rory had a mini breakdown and had to face things before he lost it all.

I give kudos for Ivy for always welcoming Rory back, not sure I would have been able to, especially the last time.

••••••••••

REVIEW: 4.5 stars--ROCKSTAR BABY is the sixth instalment in Taryn Quinn’s (Cari Quinn & Taryn Elliott) contemporary, adult CRESCENT COVE erotic, romance series focusing on the town of Crescent Cove. This is music producer and Irishman Rory Ferguson, and waitress / ice cream maker Ivy Beck’s story line. ROCKSTAR BABY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary. Several characters including Rory Ferguson cross-over from the authors’ Oblivion World series but you do not have to have read the previous series to follow… for back story and cohesion, I recommend reading for your own enjoyment.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Rory and Ivy) ROCKSTAR BABY follows the building relationship between music producer Rory Ferguson, and waitress Ivy Beck. Rory Ferguson was only in town for a few hours. Rockstar Kellan McGuire’s solo career was about to take off, and music producer Rory Ferguson was desperate enough to leave the warmth of LA and venture cross-country to the snowy parts of Crescent Cove, New York. What Rory never expected was to find himself caught in a blizzard, and into the arms of local waitress Ivy Beck. A quick insta-lust relationship would bring Rory back into Ivy’s life on a number of occasions but Rory knew his lifestyle wasn’t conducive to a woman like Ivy Beck. Fast forward several months wherein Ivy discovers she is pregnant with Rory’ child, a child he had never expected or planned for the future. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Rory and Ivy, and the potential fall-out when Rory walks away from the woman he loves not knowing the secret she was about to reveal.

The relationship between Rory and Ivy is one of insta-lust; a palpable sexual attraction that burned fiery hot from the first time they met. Ivy knew Rory wasn’t in town for the long haul but Rory kept secret his connections to the stars of music and rock. Already having issues of trust now that Rory had left without looking back, Ivy tried, but Rory refused to answer her calls, having issues of trust of his own. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Ivy’s brothers Caleb and August, and from the Oblivion series: Kellan McGuire and his wife Maggie, Ian Kagan and his girlfriend Zoe Manning: Hummingbird’s Nest B&B owners Sage and Oliver Hamilton; and bar owner Mitch.

ROCKSTAR BABY is a story of family, friendship, miscommunication and issues of trust. The premise is engaging and entertaining; the romance is seductive and steamy; the characters are colorful, energetic and charismatic. ROCKSTAR BABY is a fun, emotional, and fantastic addition to Taryn Quinn’s CRESCENT COVE series.

Irish every single day!

You have to love an Irishman. The accent alone will make you swoon. And if that doesn't do it, having Ian Kagan as your bestie, not to mention your sounding board, then, if none of that does it for you, stop reading now. Still here? Good!
Rory is just plain yummy. Ivy is in a league all her own. She reminds me of Zoe (Ian's girl Magic). Ivy gives as good as she gets. And boy does she get Rory. To date, this might be my favorite in this series. Id love to see Ivy in Ireland. See her with Rory's family. Especially his Mum. (Hint hint lol).
Seriously. If your looking for a great story that just happens to include one hunky Irishman. Friend to Ian and Kellen, your in the right place. Even if your not hehehehhe you OWE it to yourself to read a great book!

It's no secret I'm a Taryn/Cari fangirl, but this one COULD. NOT. BE. BETTER.

ALL the worlds colliding (okay, not ALL), made this uber-entertaining for me. When any book includes members of the Oblivion-verse, all is right in my world.

Rory is cranktastic, acerbic, and just plain rude. He didn't bank on the magic spell around Crescent Cove though. He also didn't account for becoming enamored with one of the locals.

On the other side of that coin is Ivy. Bright, cheerful (for the most part), and with dreams for her future - she's everything Rory didn't want. But she's the girl Rory needs. :-)

Again, I highly recommend ANY of these ladies' books. YOU CANNOT LOSE.

This one gets five music themed food truck stars.

Loved this! It even had some favorite appearances from my favorite Taryn Quinn rockers!!

Ivy and Rory shared such an instant connection. Their chemistry was fire hot from the moment they set eyes on each other. It’s no wonder everything moved at light speed for them.

So far, this is my favorite in the Crescent Cove series. With a great opposites attract vibe between Ivy and Rory - they were puzzle pieces that fit perfectly together. She brought out a lightness in him and he brought a bit of structure. But, really, he needed a bit more help. She may have been free spirited but she had her life put together. He was so focused on his music he was missing out and actually living his life, but meeting Ivy fixed that. And they weren’t immune to the water in Crescent Cove.

I loved it!

If you want a book that you can't put down, this is it. All it took was a snowstorm for things to heat up. Rory and Ivy had their one night together full of plenty of steam and a connection. This is definitely a book you want to one click and sit back and enjoy. Another Winner by this author duo.

Well, it's not a touring bad boy rockstar but it's refreshing as a songwriter producer for rockstar meeting a very small town woman.

Who doesn't love everything these two ladies write? Well, I for one sure do. I'm a sucker for a great rockstar story but throw in a surprise baby and I'm there!

If you've previously read their Rock Revenge Trilogy, you've already met the elusive, quiet Irishman, Rory Ferguson..producer, musician, wordsmith, fixer of rockstars who need a little help perfecting their sound. He's in demand, travels all over keeping his clientele happy with his special talent for making their music sound amazing.

One lonely, snowy night brings Rory into the magical lakeside town of Crescent Cove where he's agreed to help rocker Kellan McGuire with a solo project, as a favor, just for a day or so. Just enough time to met the lovely Ivy Beck, sweet and sassy server at the Rusty Spoon on this very late and wicked night that will change everything.

It's the quiet ones you have to watch sometimes as the sparks fly between Rory and Ivy. He's careful about who he spends time with and it's been a while for him, not typical in his line of work, and she's not a one night stand kind of girl, but exceptions can be made, right??? She's not going to pass up a steamy night with a hot, sexy stranger...even if this is a first for her.

Rory and Ivy had a special connection right away that almost feels like they've known each other for much longer than the few hours spent together. When he's alone and back in his own reality, Rory finds himself thinking about her and wanting more time in Crescent Cove. How could this ever work out with people who live on opposite coasts and have completely different lifestyles and goals for their lives? Working with Kellan and his friendship with a certain rocker, Ian Kagan (♡), who spends alot of time with his fiancee's family in nearby Turnbull, keeps Rory coming back and his mind on Ivy. Now that she knows what he does for a living, Ivy is fearful of trusting him but really wants to hope for more and Rory feels like running, even if his heart says something entirely different.

What a sweet, sexy and funny story this was and with the added bonus of Kellan and Maggie, along with Ian and the very pregnant Zoe, there was witty hilarity, new friendships forming and love and music everywhere.

I have enjoyed the entire Lost and also Found in Oblivion series as well as the Rock Revenge Trilogy (have to recommend ALL of these) and got a big kick out of reading Rockstar Daddy, with Kellan from Wilder Minds so, it was a given that I would have to dive right into this book as soon as it was released. I hope there are more stories with crossovers like this one so I can keep up with the lives of favorite characters, bands and anything else that Taryn Elliot and Cari Quinn write. What a team they are and I personally can't wait for whatever they cue up next.

The couple: Rory and Ivy

Romance trope: (minor) celebrity/small town girl
Series: Crescent Cove
Length: 359 pages

Plot: Rory is in town to work with one of his musician buddies and he takes a detour to the local diner where he meets waitress Ivy. They hookup that night but Rory can't get her off of his mind and spends a little more time with her, and then more time when he comes back sometime later. But the next time he comes back, his radio-silent routine isn't impressing Ivy and she might not take him back, all things considered.

Commentary: A little misleading. The hero is not actually a rockstar, but rather a writer/producer and while he does play guitar and sometimes jams with his friends, he's not a rockstar.
He was pretty full of himself, wasn't he? I mean he thought he was some hot commodity that paparazzi were going to stalk and that everyone knew who he was. I wish that had been addressed in more than a couple of throwaway comments because for me, that would have been a bit of a dealbreaker. It's not arrogance but rather a bit of self-importance of the "do you know who I am?" variety.
But aside from that - well actually, while I'm sure his accent was lovely, he seemed more trouble than he was worth, if I'm being honest. I'm sure Ivy will sort him out. She's a bit of handful herself, but not in a mean or sarcastic or snotty way. Just in a slightly wild, let's have fun sort of way (that will die down soon enough after the baby comes!).

This book was sent to me by the authors for an honest review. I absolutely love Ivy and Rory. They are perfect together and so far they are the best couple out of Crescent Cove. There were times they had me laughing so hard, especially with the scenes involving Sheriff Brooks. Ivy is trying to make her future and dreams come true while also wanting a child. Rory is a music producer who gets stuck in Crescent Cove during a snowstorm. Rory is attracted to Ivy once he lays eyes on her. He manages to talk her into going back to his room for the night. They feel something for each other right away but don't really think too much about it. A month later, Rory returns and is excited to see Ivy again. However, because of his past, he makes excuses that he is really there for work, not for her. Ivy is afraid to believe in the future but can't seem to stay away from Rory. When he runs away from her, she finally decides she doesn't need him in her life to raise their child. When Rory finally confronts his true feelings, he goes back to Ivy, hoping to make things right, not realizing the surprise she has for him. I enjoyed reading the guest cameos in the book. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series when it comes out. I always look forward to reading any books by theses two authors.

Naw this ain't it

Love fixes everything, right? He is constantly running away from life. She has roots planted so firmly in her small town that she's practically a tree. They hooked up. Then he ran. He comes back and she gives him a chance. And instead of actually getting to know each other there is a hippy dippy scene of a home birth for his best friend. They confess their love for each other and then go at it like rabbits. Then it's a little later and he pops the question. The book tries to excuse his behavior by showing his struggle to either let her go or man up. And then it has him manfully grovel for a bit. But there really is no reason for him to flake. He ghosts her for at least a month if not more. He does nothing to prove he is serious and committed to building a life together. He helps her with plans she already had in motion, he makes none of his own. Romance novel relationships can either be fairy tale or real. You can't toss away the fairy tale of Cinderella (drudge finding her prince and all her worries and toil magically disappear) and not replace it with the work of a real relationship.

The Delight
Sexy men becoming a daddy? What's not to love? This series has grabbed me for the tongue in cheek humor of couples finding out oops! they are pregnant. Most are oops with a few planned, but everyone agrees, there is something in the water at Crescent Cove!

Review
"Snowed in rocker makes unplanned baby with saucy waitress. News at 11. "

Ivy is a spunky waitress at the local diner. She has plans for an ice cream truck in her future, but like everything, you need money to start a business. Working at the diner forever isn't her dream, but a means to an end. Experimenting with ice cream flavors is her go to stress reliever and a good thing too as she is going to need those flavors for her ice cream truck. Starting a family isn't front and center on her list of things to do, but it is something she longs for and will get to when things settle down. In the mean time, she is going to have a little fun with the guy who is trapped in town by a snow storm.

Rory rolls into Crescent Cove in a tiny rental care during a winter storm to meet up with Kellan McGuire (Rockstar Baby). Helping Kellan to produce his solo album is the only thing he is here to do with his busy schedule. Hungry he checks into his B&B (Sage from Claiming His Baby) and decides to grab a bite to eat at the diner nearby only to be severely attracted to his waitress. Exchanging zinging barbs and flirtatious looks, the two wind up in bed together for what they think is just a one-night stand.

Except Rory can't stay away. Two months later he is back to see Kellan (yeah right), winds up having his fantastic lovemaking interrupted by the cops and some time rocking out with his best friends...yeah, Rory claims he doesn't have friends, but he finds out that he really does.  He loves his job, but finds himself intrigued with Ivy. Enough to have him question if he wants Ivy after having been burned in the past. Only this time when he leaves he leaves a little something of himself with Ivy.

So before we get to the baby troupe part where everyone gets upset she didn't tell him about the baby. She tries several times to call him, even text him, but he doesn't accept either. In his defense, he was confused about what he was feeling and there is more to it than I want to spoil.

This is first a cute, sexy story of a couple giving into their lusty sides and having a good time. It happens a second time, but over a little longer time. They make a promise that at any time they can cut off this thing between them if they are moving on, just to be honest with the other. So Rory thinks Ivy is calling him to be honest that she has met someone, thus he doesn't want to answer. On top of that he told Ivy he wasn't the marrying kind, nor was he planning on having kids. She makes the attempt to contact him about it all, while he attempts to understand what he is feeling and avoid what he thinks is the brushoff. Kind of like if I don't talk to her, then she can't move one....yeah, kind of dump male thinking.

Rory is a more complex character as we move along and it helps that he has a Scottish accent to imagine talking in our ear as we read. He deals with issues he has forced down, avoided the feelings he thinks he feels and genuinely thinks he is a happy guy.

Ivy admits to loving Rory in her mind right away, but knows this isn't something Rory wants. She knows he likes her, but to have a baby together takes more than like. When she can't get him to respond to her, she pushes forward with her ice cream truck, knowing she has to make a living and life for the baby she is carrying.

These two ... gosh I love them. Ivy is sweet, feisty and a woman with a purpose. She knows what she wants even if it takes a while to get there. Hard works isn't something she is afraid of, nor does she shy away from it. Rory is a great guy, he just needs to face his demons and get past the mental blocks holding him back from Ivy, but also from his career and friendships.

We get to see characters from other rock band series that this duo authors write together. Kellan from Wilder Rock Series, Ian and Zoe from Rock Revenge, and the Oblivion family. The gang was all there for at least parts of the story. Ian as it turns out is best friends with Rory...and Rory just figured that one out!

Crescent Cove (formerly Dirty DILF's) is a quirky series of stories about men who would make great daddy's meeting the woman who so want to be mommy's and a little fertility help from God only knows where. Sometimes you just need a series to make you laugh and cheer on couples who get miracle surprises!

Lucky Charms and Ginger Fairy Queen are my new favorites!

A one night stand turns into more in this sexy addition to the Crescent Cove series. There were so many things I liked in this story:
1 Ivy: She makes delicious ice cream (I’m craving that peppermint patty flavor), is comfortable with her sexuality and doesn’t hesitate to stand up to Rory when needed.
2. Rory: He has a delicious Irish accent and, even though he was emotionally stunted in the beginning, he finally got his head out of his backside and figured things out.
3. Ice Cream: seriously the flavors Ivy created sounded delicious.
4. Ice Cream Truck: I wish Ivy’s truck was real and near me. I would definitely become a regular customer.

I jus realized I mentioned ice cream a lot in this review🍨. If I lived in Crescent Cove I might be worried I was having pregnancy cravings. 🤣

Sigh, they never fail to impress! Taryn and Cari continue to bring on the most sexy, humourous stories.

It's Ivy's turn. She is one busy lady! So many jobs, to go after her dream. Work keeps her out of trouble until one stormy night a little piece of heaven walks in the diner.

Rory cannot believe the snow. City boy meets countryside in a snow storm. He can't find his way to his destination so seeks shelter in the Cove.

They seem so mismatched and yet they feel right together.

Lots of good laughs and a few tears, but such a great read.

It was okay. I started this book for distraction purposes and it worked at least while reading it. The interim not so much. Although this might just be my mood speaking.
All in all it was descent and well written. It might even be good for you. Don't look at my ratings. I wasn't in a good mindset when I read it. So, those ratings may be just me being dour.

Another great addition to the Crescent Cove Series. I loved Rory & Ivy’s instant connection after meeting in a diner during a snow storm. They were great together even if Rory kept trying to deny his feelings for Ivy before he finally saw the light. It was a really sweet & sexy story.

Enjoyable

This was an enjoyable read. Getting involved in a bicoastal romance, after a disastrous long distance relationship is a definite indicator of doom. But is it really! This book contains a fair amount of star power cross over from the Oblivion world.

I don't know why I didn't look on goodreads before I started this book, but obviously part of a series that I haven't read. But in any case, I enjoyed it.

Rockstar Baby

I think I've been waiting forever for Macy and Gideon's story. Rory was so crazy and standoffish he didn't even realize how much he was into Ivy. I'm glad they were having a baby. I think her brother had the hots for her bestie.

Me ha gustado mucho, muy dulce y los personajes son encantadores. Una pena que las autoras no hayan metido más de la cultura irlandesa en este libro, pero aún así ha estado genial.

I love this book and I hope you enjoy Ivy and Rory story... 💜 I hope the author doesn't mind me using a highlight form her book...💜💜📚

“I get it. You had a friend betray you once. But hey, guess what? You did the same to me.” “I did not.” My stomach bottomed out. “You didn’t cheat, but you left. And to be honest, I didn’t know if you had a woman in every damn city from here to Los Angeles. We barely know one another.” “We’re fixing that. And I didn’t. There’s only ever been you.” Flashes of Zoe losing all her color and collapsing in Ian’s arms played like a reel on a loop. How the hell was I going to be enough for Ivy? I wasn’t equipped for that kind of loss. Not of Ivy. “Yeah, except did you forget the part where you went near radio silent on me in the middle of the scariest time of my life?” Finally, the reel snapped and stopped. Panic for what could happen superimposed itself on the woman before me. That I could lose her because I couldn’t face this fucking fear. I took a step toward her, but she held up a hand. “No, you got a chance to say your peace. Now here’s mine.” Her hair was falling out of its messy braid and was curling in the humidity that was quickly replacing the storm. Whatever makeup she’d been wearing had been washed away. Even in her anger, she was so goddamn beautiful it hurt me to my bones knowing I’d almost lost her. And still could. “I don’t know anything for sure, but I’m here, Rory. I’m trusting that you won’t hurt me again. That what you said on that beach today was true.” Her voice wobbled and I couldn’t stay away from her. I twisted my fingers around hers, holding tight. “It was. I swear it. I want this. I want us.” I pressed our tangled hands to her belly. “Both of you.” “I want to believe you.” “I just…” I squeezed my eyes shut for a moment and blew out a slow breath. Letting her see everything was the only way to keep her. And God, I wanted that more than the breath in my body. “I watched that one split second where Ian almost lost her and I just…” I cupped her face. “I can’t lose you. I can’t. I love you too much.” “What?” Her huge brown eyes locked with mine. “What did you say?” “I love you, Ivy Rose. So fucking much. I know it doesn’t make sense. But I’m not wrong here, right? You feel it too? I know I have no right to ask—” She went on her toes and slammed her mouth over mine, then jerked back. “You love me?” “I do, yes.” I wrapped her in my arms. The echo chamber that used to be my chest suddenly filled as she laughed. Tears blurred her perfect eyes and I frowned. “That’s good, right?” “So good. I love you too.” “Oh, thank God. I’d wait for it if necessary. For the right to have a woman like you love me—” “Rory, stop. You’re everything I want. You’re a complete pain in my ass sometimes, but I love you. I do.” “Thanks, I think.” She laughed and dashed away the tears. “It happened so fast. I was afraid that it was too fast.” “You? I’m the one who thought I was literally going mad, a ghrá.” “You keep saying that. What does it mean?” “It’s Irish.” “I figured.” She drilled her finger into my chest. “What does it mean?” “My love.” “Oh.” Her eyes filled again. “You’ve been saying it to me for so long and I didn’t even know.” She fisted my shirt. “You did it on purpose.” I laughed. “Maybe a little. It kept popping out, no matter how hard I tried to tell myself that I didn’t need you. I didn’t need the complications of love. Work was such a haven for me.” “You mean a place to hide.” I tipped my forehead to hers. “Yes, I suppose it was. But there’s no hiding now.” “Because of the baby?” Her voice sounded uncertain. “No, the baby is just a bonus. It’s always been about you, Ivy. Always will be. Now it’s all just going a bit faster. We Irish know how to do the baby thing once we get going.” “Is that right?”
