Detective Sergeant Alex Brown doesn’t believe in coincidences. When she begins to look intothe murders, it doesn’t take long to trace them back to the same borough in East London.
When she finds that they attended the same university…
…Alex knows it can’t be chance.
All signs point to a maniacal serial killer. Alex Brown and her partner are in hot pursuit of a psychopath who seems hell-bent on exacting vengeance on unsuspecting women in the most gruesome possible way.
It’s only just the beginning.
This disturbing and mind-bending adventure sets the stage for the rest of Jon Biddle’s Alex Brown series. You’ll love this prequel to this psychological thriller series because it will keep you up late at night.
Jon Biddle’s ebook titled TROLL is about this psychologically warped man named Keith and his serial killing spree - which contains some creative violence and sexual deviance. Alex is the detective who is on the case, along with her partner, on solving the case of the string of murdered victims. I can’t say too much without giving too much away. I don’t want to spoil the shock and awe of his crimes.
The book itself has some editing errors peppered throughout but I am not going to take that into consideration in this review and just focus on the story itself. I truly enjoyed this ebook, as twisted as it may be to some. It read, to me, almost like a true crime novel which I truly enjoy. More more deviant and sinister the better. That may say something more about me, eh?
The only reason I didn’t give this ebook 5 stars is because I wanted to have more character development and background off Keith. I mean, there is brief mention of issues with his family of origin and his wife, but I was seeking more into his psychological development. What specifically in his background created this monster of a man? What sexual escapades or crimes happened to him or did he witness to peek such a curiosity in violent pornography? What fed his need to kill? Torture? Sexually exploit his victims? I wanted to understand Keith and how be became the serial killer he did.
This book isn’t for kids or anyone faint of heart. If you are not easily grossed out or can handle harder sexual situations and rape, then you may find this book enjoyable .... That sounds off doesn’t it? LOL
This is a new author for me. i hate that i forgot where i saw the book to decide to read it- it was in some FB group. i really enjoyed this mystery/ horror. i am very picky when it comes to these genres so i was pleasantly surprised. it's gritty and gory, kinda disgusting, intriguing and not for the faint of heart. it's a little suspenseful but it ticks other boxes better. there are some triggers so proceed with caution. i loved seeing the story from the killer's point of view- he was disgustingly grotesque and utterly puke-worthy! i'm definitely reading the Harvester next, I'm excited to meet this next demented killer!
3.5 stars. I got this ebook free for signing up for the author's newsletter. I can't recall what the ad was on FB, but for me to click it,it had to sound like a violent story. I read the blurb on GR, and it says 'two body's' in the blurb..it doesn't on Amazon, but it does on GR. So I had an idea the book could've used another edit before reading it. It was free, so I'm not complaining, but there's an odd typo every few pages or so. Since signing up for the author's newsletter I get emails 3-4 times a week. Usually offering free stories that don't interest me..so eventually, I got around to reading Troll. My TBR is super long so it took a month or so. This was a story more about the police side of things than the killer's side of things. The bad guy was interesting, but played background to the detective. Overall, not a bad read, but not good enough for me to want to read the next book. If the FB ad that I clicked was about cops, I doubt I would have ever clicked the ad.
As I was ready to read Jon’s first book in his Alex Brown series, I came across this precursor to that series. What a roller coaster of a read. It had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. It is not often that you know up front who the killer is. The search by Alex and her partner to uncover the identity of the killer with the hopes that he makes a mistake and confirms his identity makes for compelling reading. The fact that Biddle is a true crime fan and finds inspiration from them for his writing makes for a great read. Now, I can wait to start The Harvester to read more of Alex Brown’s crime fighting career!
A well written revengeful murder theme with plenty of action. Alex is the investigating officer in the torture and murder of young girls. Determined to bring their killer to justice, she pulls out all the stops to find the sick and twisted killer. The murder scenes are very graphic so not for the faint hearted.
Very creepy. Very graphic. Fast read, had a hard time dealing with the explicit killing and the serial killers is one sick puppy. Beware, you need a strong stomach for this one. I received this on another authors promo.
Wow what a gripping read. If this is a typical example from the writer Jon Biddle he will definitely be on my TBR list. Tragedy always draws us in, and the descriptive nature and suspense herein grabbed me from the start right through to the very end.
