i read this box set as part of an arc program. This is a set of four mafia romances which includes Risky, Defiant, Brazen and Rebel.
Risky - In this book, Lance is a hitman who is assigned to kill lawyer Josephine. Lance works for the mafia, even though he doesn't want to. When Lance goes to Kill Josephine, he finds she is not home like he expected, so he traces her car to find her. When Lance finds her, he is surprised to find a man attacking a woman in an alley and he goes to her rescue, only to see it is Josephine. When Lance rescues her, Josephine asks him into her home, where they act on their attraction. When Lance tries to sneak out later, he is caught by Sadie, Josephine's neighbor and best friend. Lance knows he has to kill Josephine, but he has to work out how after being seen with her. Also Lance doesn't want to kill her, he wants to keep her. When the mob learns he hasn't killed her yet, the pressure increases and puts everyone in danger. I really liked this story. It was well done with a great connection between Lance and Josephine. I like how Josephine saw many sides to things and trusted Lance.
Defiant- This is the story of a young woman named Camilla, the daughter of a mafia boss, and Luca, an enforcer from a rival family. Luca and his partner Enzo kidnap Camilla one night while at a club and tell her friend it is because of her father. Luca and Enzo were working on orders from their Don and were told not to hurt Camilla. Their boss wanted a territory for himself and thought her father would give in if they had his daughter. On the way to the hideout, Enzo was shot and Luca was left to care for Camilla by himself. Camilla woke up and realized she was kidnapped and knew her father would come for her. Days go by and Luca learns there has been no new word from her father and Camilla is starting to doubt if he will come for her. When Luca is ordered to hurt Camilla and send pics of her bruised, he doesn't want to hurt her, but knows he will be killed if he doesn't. This was a good story. I liked Luca and thought he was stuck in a life he didn't want. i thought he really was a good guy and i think Camilla changed him.
Brazen- This is the story of Gabriel and Lindsay. Gabriel was sent to Chicago to gather information about a mafia boss who was trying to expand his business into New York. Gabriel met Lindsay the first day he was moving into his apartment. Lindsay lived next door and she was an artist who also worked as a secretary for a security company. Gabriel was a quiet man and Lindsay was determined to get to know him. Gabriel had gotten a job as a janitor in an office building in hopes of getting his information. When Gabriel realized Lindsay was the secretary of the mob boss, he thought he could use her to get close enough for the information. Lindsay and Gabriel started seeing each other and Lindsay thought it was a casual fling, but she couldn't help wanting more. When Gabriel's cover was blown, Lindsay was in danger and he had to decide if he cared enough to save her. i liked this story. I liked Gabriel, i thought he really cared about Lindsay. Gabriel was an orphan and he didn't really know how to relate to people. I think Lindsay was out going and was good for him.
Rebel- This is the story of Jack and Mia. Jack is in New Orleans to kill a politician who had been stealing from the mafia. Mia is also in New Orleans in order to kill the same politician, only they don't know the other is there. Jack and Mia had met the evening before at a bar in a hotel and Mia used Jack for a place to stay the night. Jack and Mia had an amazing connection and when they discover they are both trying to kill the same man, Jack's boss wants him to kill her. Before they can get the chance, someone else kills their target and they get a call that they are now targets. Jack and Mia try to escape with their lives and are unsure if they can trust each other. I really liked this book, it was fast paced and had a lot of action. Mia and Jack were great together and i think they both never thought they would find someone who understood them.
I really liked this set and thought they were all great stories.

This book is a treat for all Ava Bloom fans, four great books in one place. Each book is considered to be a standalone so you can pick and choose whichever Bad Boy Mafia you want to drool over in the order you want. A great author that you will definitely want to flag as one to follow.
Book #1: Risky - I enjoyed this book but while I understand this book is fiction, I enjoy books that have the "possibility" of occurring in real life. That being said, the characters of Lance and Josephine were great together and that part of the story was believable.
Book #2: Brazen - I just love it when a Bad Boy meets "the one" and falls hard and fast. Ava Bloom hits the mark with this Mafia Romance because the two characters of Gabriel and Lindsey were believable and strong. Their "relationship" starts with so many coincidences that you just know that the universe had a hand in all of this. I loved the progression where they went from casual friends to people thrown together by circumstance to a strong partnership.
Book #3: Defiant - Sometimes being in the wrong place at the right time works out even when a plan goes wrong. When Luca was sent on a mission by his Mafia Boss to kidnap the daughter of a rival boss he had no idea how drastic his life was about to change. When Camilla first saw Luca, something stirred inside but what came afterward was nothing she could have envisioned. This was a fast paced quick read story of love between rival factions. There are some surprises and twists and turns that will keep you reading until the last word.
Book #4: Rebel - Another quick and satisfying read. Two assassins, both given the impossible task to take out the same subject. Failure means they would be the target. What could go wrong? When Mia sees Jack sitting at a bar in a New Orleans, his handsome and her type in a way but her only thought is that she would now have a place to sleep before the biggest job of her career. Jacks take on the stunning woman in the red dress is that she would be a quick diversion to pass the time before he has to do the most important hit of his career. Both were deadly wrong. This is a new take on the Hit Man (Person) romance that you will love.

This Box Set is a great value, and I totally recommend it!
Book#1: Risky: Wow! I loved it! This is a short, well written sweet mafia romance. I was hooked from the first page to the end. I wasn’t able to put it down, so fortunately it was short! The scenery is well described. For example, in the first scene, it’s like we were there with Lance when he was stalking outside Josephine’s apartment! This story has it all! It’s fast-paced, suspenseful, entertaining, funny and steamy. Lance, a hitman, and Josephine, a criminal defense lawyer, are an unexpectedly couple. They are great together and they share an undeniable chemistry. I love their unusual, but beautiful HEA. The storyline is believable and surprisingly well developed despite the short story. I really recommend this book. This is one of the best mafia story I ever read. I enjoyed my reading.

I have read each of the books in this set individually and everyone of them is a five star read. Each book drags you into a world of heart-wrenching romance, spine-chilling suspense and sizzling tension that holds you captive until the last word. This box set has it all....unique story-lines, intrigue, drama, passion, dark twists, non-stop action, danger, violence, deep emotions and of course a HEA. “Dissent” is an incredibly entertaining set of books written by Ava Bloom, a fantastic story-teller. If you appreciate heart-pounding, pulse-racing romance specifically Mafia romance, you must grab this collection. A definite must read.

Great box set of Mafia Romances that are standalone. The storylines are well-crafted, engaging, steamy and full of possibilities of real-life drama. The characters are defined, alpha males, bad-boys or criminals you decide with their sexy love interests who are interesting enough to hold these bad boys attention. I enjoyed these great books.

An amazing collection of 4 intense filled suspenseful romances. Their storyline are drama filled, intriguing, full of suspense, have twists and turns, action, danger, humor and sizzling hot chemistry. These fast paced entertaining stories had me addicted from page one till the last page read with great characters.

Confession: I did read each of these books as a stand-alone but it’s nice to have them all in one place. Each story is mafia based but they are all fast and easy reads. Dark conflicted heroes and women who can rock their worlds. Each of the stories stands alone with its own HEA. Characters are well developed even if they are morally ambiguous. Great reads. (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC).

As usual, Ava provides a detailed story that is packed with action, drama and suspense for a good mafia romance story. It draws you in and you can feel the thoughts and actions of the characters. The story is intense, jumps off the pages and holds you captive until the vey end.

Alright!
I chose this rating because this book was okay. I enjoyed most of the characters. This was a book about give-and-take. If you love short stories this is the book for you.
