Okay, so honestly the first book was really great with all of the interconnecting plots, the political affairs, and overall story arc--but book 2 IS EVEN BETTER. I might come across as exaggerating, but book 2 really steps up EVERYTHING. If you thought you knew about the characters and who they were before, you'll be surprised to learn you don't know anything! There are some great surprises, both good and bad (and when I say bad, I mean of the fun plot device kind). Artemis remains one of my faves, but Gildas tugged at my heartstrings. I would venture to say this one deals with darker and more serious themes, but was done without turning graphic. I would still really like some character development on the true bad guys (although grey characters are my prefence and there are plenty of those), but it's not neccessary. I can't wait to see how everything turns out!

Like the Two Towers, this book gets bogged in battles. Good guys have bad moments and bad guys have good moments. Motivations are questioned and loyalties tested. But, ultimately, a necessary work in this series.

I couldn't put this book down - the character development is amazing! The characters are easy to relate to as they struggle to understand their selves, their relationships, and their role in the rapidly changing world
