Love blossoms in the unlikeliest places…Tarnation, Texas.

Buzz Colt was a liar, cheat, and a scrooge but the one thing he did right was father five sons.
Growing up without a father, Baxter Colt learned how to be a man on his own. He’d written Buzz out of his life until he passed and left a few surprises and secrets—and hoops to jump through.

Fury wasn’t a strong enough word to describe Baxter’s feelings when he heard the stipulations of his father’s will. Five brothers who are strangers are given the choice to live together for six months and work the Grinning Spurs Ranch or give up everything they’ve worked for—including their homesteads.

However, that’s only the beginning. All five must be married before time is up.

Since her mother was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s Disease, Abriella Craig was responsible for the family bakery and her little brother. Financially she was strapped and emotionally and physically she was alone, but when a brooding, handsome stranger strolls into town he might be the answer to her prayers.

Abriella is as sweet as the cupcakes she creates and would make the perfect wife, but as secrets start to unfold Baxter realizes he wants more than a marriage of convenience. But is he too much like his father to ever find love?

The Colt brothers will each take a journey in finding love, brotherhood and forgiveness in the small town of Tarnation, Texas where love blooms in the unlikeliest places.

Rhonda Lee Carver is a bestselling author of contemporary western and romantic suspense, but she loves to write other genres too. She's known for writing stories that keep readers laughing, crying, gripping the edge of their seats, and screaming all in one book...like riding a virtual roller coaster. Whether she's creating sexy cowboys or tough guys, or sassy, independent heroines, readers are sure to find strong, powerful, memorable characters that are relatable.

By day, she taps into her creative, fictional world but at some point she transitions back into reality where she's a volleyball-stands cheerleader, homework virtuoso (at least she thinks so), amateur nurse to skinned knees, mediocre chef with some awesome microwave skills, pet-guru (all the strays show up at her house), and a Jackie of all trades for her kids who are the loves of her life. Yoga and chocolate keep her sane. Hallmark movies require cuddling up with tissues because she can be emotional. She adds a sprinkle of her own real-life adventures in each story she spins because a little truth never hurt anyone. She wouldn't give up one thing in her crazy, chaotic, ever-amusing life, except, she might do magic tricks for the bungalow on the beach she's had her eye on (GOALS).

Writing for Rhonda is like falling in love and finding a new best friend over and over again. Her characters will find a place inside your heart too.

I really enjoyed this book. It is book one of this series so there is no better time to start this series. I fell in love with Abriella, Baxter and Tarnation, Texas. This small town, cowboy romance offers up a well written, meaty storyline. compelling characters and deep, powerful emotions. My heart simply broke for Abriella. She is incredibly strong, talented, spunky and caring. Unfortunately none of that can ease the pain that her mother's illness bring into her life or ease the weight of the world on her shoulders. I felt bad for Baxter. He has his own emotional baggage due to his father and the current drama in his life is causing so much stress and emotional turmoil for him. It was wonderful that love found these two when love was the last thing they wanted or were looking for. Baxter's brother were all interesting and I can't wait to read their stories. This is my sincere, frank review.

Hitched is a spectacular contemporary romance by Rhonda Lee Carver. Ms. Carver has provided readers with a well-written book populated with an outstanding cast of characters. Baxter and his brother traveled to Tarnation, Texas to learn that they had 3 brothers by another mother and their father had left them equal shares in his estate. Abriella is running the family bakery and paying her brother's college tuition plus her mother's care and medicine. Abriella and Baxter's story started with a splash. Their story is loaded with drama, humor and spice. I enjoyed this book from cover to cover and look forward to my next Rhonda Lee Carver book. Hitched is book 1 of the Tarnation, Texas Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

This first book in her new series is wonderful. Two men and another 3 men who had no clue they all had the same father come to Tarnation, Texas when their father passes away for the reading of his will. What the will spells out will shock them all and tick them off. I loved how they all slowly get to know each other. This first story is Baxter and Abriella's story. The build up between them is great and this is just a sweet story of love!! Can't wait for the next brother to get his story!!!

Easy short read

This book was one of those stop and smell the roses kind of stories. It was slow but not to the point that you pass on it. But slow enough to make you appreciate the journey. I liked the idea of the brothers bonding during this journey but I only got hints of it. I may continue to see how it works out.

A great lead in to a story. The stipulations put on Baxter and his brothers’ will was trying, seemingly impossible and genius! Abriella was a wonderful heart that needed healing. I loved the way the story came together. A feel-good romance that left me wanting more. Book gifted to me.

SUMMARY
Baxter and Brennan thought their ranch was owned by their mom. Until their dad's will gets read. To keep their ranches, they (and the 3 half-brothers they didn't know they had) have to jointly live on and run a third ranch (while managing their ranches from afar), maintain their dad's rental and other properties, and all get married within 6 months. Otherwise, absolutely everything gets sold and the money given to charities.

Abriella's mom is in a long-term care home for Parkinson's, her little brother has 1 more year of college, and she's struggling to make ends meet because Mr Colt keeps raising the rent on the building she rents from him for her bakery.

Baxter narrowly misses running Abriella over, but drenches her with rainwater. Fight. Another day they bump into each other on the sidewalk; her phone flies into the road and gets ruined. Fight.

Brennan and Ash are both vying for CC, the vet.

EVALUATION
I love insta-love stories because I'm living one. This one doesn't grab me, though, because there's far more thinking about their physical reaction to the other than there is conversation and interaction to cement a relationship. And I would've expected Baxter to be more fearful that this is how his dad got into relationships that he eventually left.

I did tell my husband to change careers to a cowboy, though, because of how well the author describes Baxter's grace.

RECOMMENDATION
Those who like insta-love or cowboys

FAVORITE QUOTES
Divorce is never pretty. Don’t ever do it.

Pride. It had been a barrier for him most of his life, never letting anyone beyond a certain point in his feelings. It had also become his cage.

"Doesn’t every town in America have needs of different types, Baxter? For instance, that little boy you were tossing ball with. His name is Elijah and his father is serving overseas and, although they aren’t going hungry for food, they’re hungry for support. They can find that at the church. You playing ball with him probably made his day, his week, maybe even his month. Agnus, the woman I’m dropping off the basket to, she is in her nineties and has no close family. Her husband died years ago, and five years ago her sister passed away so she is alone. If it wasn’t for the church and neighbors, she would be alone in her home, day in and day out. She says that the best day of her week is coming to the soup kitchen. I could keep going, each person with a different need, but all of the same importance."

POSSIBLE TRIGGERS (SPOILERS)
Sex: arousal, kisses; sex is entirely off page
Language: 4 F words, 2 Lord's name in vain, 14 S words
Violence: caught in storm

Wow, when Rhonda decides to complicate things for her characters, she certainly goes all the way.
When Buzz Colt dies his will leaves his lawyer in a tight spot. He gets the ominous privilege of introducing two sets of brothers to each other. I never thought I'd feel sorry for a lawyer type until now.

Baxter and Brennan are Buzz's sons from his marriage, they live on their Ranch Dragonfly Spurs with their mother. Arc, Adam and Ash are the children Buzz had with his girlfriend, he never married her even after he divorced his wife. Buzz himself lived on a huge ranch called Grinning Spurs in Tarnation, Texas, he also appears to own a good deal of real estate there as well. Now the lawyer is going to lower the boom.

The five of them must live and work on Grinning Spurs Ranch for six months, but the icing on this is they also must all marry by the end of that six months or they will lose their ranches and everything else.

This book will concentrate mostly on Baxter and his relationship with the town's bakery owner, Abriella Craig.

When Baxter runs into Abriella, for the second time, and I do mean that literally,it's comical and complicated.

This book is so much fun, intertwined with the blossoming relationship is some family drama for Abriella. Some friction for the brothers with regard to a female veterinarian. Plenty of misunderstandings and things not being discussed that lead to even more interesting confrontations.

A truly wonderful start to a new series.

Baxter and Abriella's story in Hitched was such an interesting story line by Rhonda Lee Carver.

The Colt brothers are all back in Tarnation after the death of their father, only to discover that they aren't the only sons of Buzz Colt. And of course, Buzz has to make things as difficult as possible for the 5 brothers, and there are some specific terms that need to be met before they can get what is rightfully theirs.

Abriella has been through a lot in life, and works hard to ensure that those she cares about most are taken care of. But of course, that means that she doesn't have someone else looking out for her needs. When Baxter comes barreling into her life, literally, she does everything in her power to push her feelings for Baxter aside and continue focusing on her mother, brother, and business in Tarnation. She is unsure of the future for all of them, and the last thing she needs is a distraction.

When the two of them eventually do give into their desires, Baxter comes back to Abriella with an offer that could solve their dilemma, while also giving them the chance at an HEA. But Baxter needs to come clean about the terms of his fathers will. Will he open up about everything in time, or will he miss his chance at having everything he could want in life with the woman he loves?

I really enjoyed this book, and cannot wait to see what is in store for the other Colt brothers!

Based in Tarnation.   How can you not love the town?
The book starts with a vivid description of an incident that any woman would find more than a little frustrating.   I immediately knew this particular story was going to deliver an enjoyable read and I was far from disappointed.
Early on you are hit with an OH MY moment, followed by another shocker which leaves you with the thought, Oh this is going to be interesting twist.  In short order, you are faced with a situation that many of us have had to face in one way or another by debilitating diseases.  Reality isn't always wrapped with pretty shiny paper and silky ribbons and bows.  The author does a beautiful job in bringing the details and emotions of the characters out for the reader.  In doing so, I remember many details and emotions we faced with my grandmother as she battled Alzheimer and dementia.
I loved the banter back and forth between the characters.  For me, this makes the story easier to read as well as assists in me being able to submerge myself in the story.  The familiarity found in the small town is something I could easily relate to.   I am from a town that has less than ten thousand as well.  Enjoyed the story and can't wait to see what else happens in Tarnation.

I have been a fan of Mrs. Carver's for awhile and I was very excited to hear she was starting a new series. Now that I have read book one in this series, I can see that I am really going to enjoy this.

I feel like this book really set the stage not only for this book but also some of the others. You get a feeling of why this series is taking place and meeting all the sons. You also are introduced to other individuals who I think are going to be key players in the following books.

This story really sets the stage and it focuses on Baxter and Abriella. To say that they didn't get off on the right foot is an understatement. For a majority of this book, whenever these two get within walking distance of each other the sparks fly. Once they start to spend some time with one another that spark turns to attraction.

One aspect of this book that I really liked was Baxter's insistence that he is not his father. In a heated argument, Abriella throws that accusation at Baxter and that doesn't sit well with him. He makes it his mission to change her mind. In doing so, and spending time with her, he starts to grow to like the town and the people.

I can't wait to read more of this series.

Well this was a cute story! I wasn't quite sure what Hitched would be like based on its cover but in actuality it is a bit of Hallmark sweetness set in modern day Texas. Baxter Colt and his younger brother have been summoned by their late father's attorney for the reading of the will. Much to their surprise they find out that they have 3 half brothers and they will all inherit multiple ranches, properties as well as money but there are stipulations. Live together for 6 months on the main ranch in Tarnation and they each need to be married by the end of the 6 months! Crazy, huh! Baxter has no plans on getting married yet the bakery owner in town that he cannot seem to get along with definitely gets his heart going! Abriella Craig has her plate full between running her bakery in order to support her mother in nursing care and her younger brother in college. The last thing she has time for is a relationship and the last man she would choose is the egotistical son of Buzz Colt. Well we all know that the heart wants what the heart wants and these two want each other! Theirs is a fun back and forth romance with some banter and behind closed doors romance. It was told from dual POV and I plan on continuing with the series.

This is definitely a sweet treat of a book for your sweet tooth! Rhonda Lee Carver brings us a NEW series with a new group of cowboys. This book is set in Tarnation, Texas. We meet Buzz Colt and his brother on their way to meet up with a lawyer after they find out their dad died. This visit turns out to be something they never expected with a few more additions. Buzz comes to find out he is on a time frame and needs to be successful but just not sure where to start. While in this new town Buzz has a run in with Abriella Craig.
Abriella is a busy woman working at her moms bake shop, helping her brother through college and taking care of their mother, so the last thing she needed was to be run over by a man new to town who thinks he’s all that and a box of chocolates! Abriella starts to feel the pressure of being the one taking care of things on her owns and is surprised to find some help with the new guy in town. I LOVE this first book in her series, you are hooked from the beginning and there is plenty of twists and turns, and of course cowboys to keep you interested!!

Welcome to Tarnation, Texas and a brand new series by Rhonda Lee Carver. The only problem I found with this book is that I am ready for the next one now. Hitched is the story of Baxter Colt and Abriella Craig, and it is a wonderful start to the series.
Buzz Colter was Baxter's father, along with his brother Brennan, but also three other siblings. This wouldn't be a problem except the two sets of siblings knew nothing about each other, that is until they all meet up for the reading of their fathers will. A will with stipulations that each brother has to follow, leaving them all to wonder why?
Abriella has problems of her own, her mother has Parkinson's disease and her care is not cheap, leaving her alone to handle the family bakery and her younger brother. She tries to do all the right things but life just keeps dealing her a crappy hand.
I cannot wait to read more of this series, the brothers and the women who will bring them to their knees. Tarnation, Texas sounds like a good place to call home!!

Baxter Colt wasn’t happy to be summoned to the reading of the will of the father who abandoned him and his brother Brennan 20 years ago. Baxter wasn’t prepared to meet Adam, Arc and Ash either, brothers they’d never known about. And Buzz left more surprises for his sons. Buzz was wealthy and they’ve inherited quite a bit… with strings.

Buzz decreed all five brothers live on Buzz’ ranch, run his myriad of businesses together, find wives in six months or they inherit nothing plus and lose the family ranches they thought they already owned. Baxter’s been commitment shy for years. Though he had a prickly meet with baker Abriella Craig, he doesn’t even like her. That’s what he keeps telling himself.

Abriella’s financially overwhelmed with the drain of her mother’s medical bills, trying to put her brother through school and the cost of her business, especially with Buzz’ constant rent increases. Plus, everywhere she turns, she runs into that frustrating, new in town Baxter Colt, she can’t wait for him to leave town. At least that’s what she keeps telling herself.

I have always loved Rhonda’s books and this new series is a great addition to her Cowboys.
While I do like a little spice in the books I read, I also love the romance 💞 just as much if not more.
This new series will be loaded with romance but with a behind the door action on the sex, which is fine by me.
You can read the synopsis so I’m not getting into what the book is about.
Baxter and Abriella start off the series and I really loved watching their romance blossom.
From the first catastrophic moment they met, sparks ignited. She disliked him, he disliked her, or so they thought.
But as the story progresses, they both realize it’s love. 💖Their conversations at times had me laughing but parts of the story had me tearing 😢 up for them both.
So even though this is sweet, it’s still romantic. 💗 I really loved it.
I can’t wait to see the other brothers find their romantic match, 💘 after all it’s not just about the “WILL”, or is it?
Come read and find out for yourselves.

This is intriguing, romantic and entertaining. The storyline is intense, gripping and interesting. Baxter is determined, charming, cocky and caring. Abriella is stubborn, independent, responsible and sweet. After almost running her over in his truck, and then walking into her on the street, Bax couldn't get the woman out of his head. He was drawn to her, yet didn't want to start anything with her. He needed a temporary wife and knew instinctively that she could never be that. Abriella never got so mad at people, especially people she didn't know, but that didn't stop her from getting furious with Bax every time he was around. Finding that they had a lot in common brought them closer, they just needed to convince themselves that it was worth taking a chance. This is the start of what should be a very enjoyable series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.

A will with stipulations

When Ash Colt and his brother Brennan are asked to come to the reading of the will of the father who has been absent from their lives for most of their lives they are surprised by the things that are revealed. Lexi is running the family bakery, taking care of her mother in a nursing home and putting her younger brother through college. She has no spare time and dating is out of the question. But a chance encounter with Buzz Colt leaves them both wondering what might be possible.
These two had quite the adversarial relationship to begin with but we all know this turns to love. It was fun watching their relationship develope. Of course there is also interference and advice from family and friends you can't have a good story without it. And I have to admit I feel a little bit in love with some of those people also.

I went directly to the next book in the series. I feel I may blow through this whole series..

When Buzz Colt died he left behind a whole herd of trouble. Baxter and all of his brothers find that a stipulation in their fathers will about them each having to get married to be hilarious considering the old man's history. As they explore the town that Buzz lived in they are finding out more about the man none of them every knew. When several incidents happen with Abriella, Baxter finds that she is very intriguing and can't help himself but want to spend time with her. Caught up in everything he asked her to marry him without her knowing everything about his father's wishes and she is so caught off guard that things spiral down. I won't tell you any more other than it ends well. I can't wait to see what happens with each brother now that they are all in Tarnation for at least six months.

Surprise: Not only did you and your brother inherit property from a dad who abandoned you long ago, but you find out you have 3 more brothers, must live on the property for 6 months, and within those 6 months all 5 must get married.
If one doesn’t fulfill these stipulations in the will, then everything is gone.
Twists and turns that keep you wondering what is going to happen next as Baxter and his brothers try to understand why their father did what he did.
Baxter also has to figure out his attraction to Abriella.
Will Baxter be able to fulfill his father’s wishes or will Abriella turn him down.
Fast pace story with strong willed characters who keep you reading to the end. Another late night read.

The terms of Buzz Colt’s Will left his sons speechless and shocked. Most shocking was the revolution that Buzz had 5 sons in total. And if that was a enough of a surprise, the Will went on to state they had to live and work together for 6 months and find brides to keep their ranches. This is the story of the eldest son, Baxter, search for a wife. He certainly doesn’t start out by impressing Arbilla. It’s astonishing she even gave him the time of date. Then “poof” they are in love. I just didn’t buy their instant love.
This book is just missing that something extra this author always brings to her stories. I do plan to read the 2nd book, with the hope Ms. Carver’s wonderful reading style will shine through in it.

Hang on for a wild ride with Hitched. When Baxter's father passes away, him and his brother Brennan, have many emotions come to the surface. The brothers learn they have 3 more brothers they didn't know about. This leaves Baxter and his brothers wondering what exactly their father was up to. Baxter's father's will leaves them in a round up that they aren't sure how to navigate. When Baxter meets a beautiful girl named Abriella it sends his whole world upside down. He tries to gain her trust and get her to realize that he isn't anything like his father. Which just leads to more problems when she hears the real reason that he is after her. Will they end up together or will they never speak again? Jump on the horse and go for the ride of Baxter and Abriella.

An absolute mess

I don’t give 1 star reviews very often, but between the absolutely abysmal writing, the overused plot premise (must marry to save my inheritance), and the tedious pacing, I had to throw in the towel. Given the number of times I stumbled in the reading over poor word choices that ranged from hilarious to bizarre, and the number of times the heroine thought about her nipples and how they pebbled at the sight of the hero, it’s a wonder I made to the 62% mark on my Kindle.

Bottom line: when I start marking the reading with all of the errors, grammatical, syntactical, and conventional, I know it’s a book I probably won’t finish. I don’t like reading with a “red pen” in my hand. The hunky cowboy on the cover can’t save this mess.

HIGHLY ENTERTAINING ROMANCE

An interesting storyline about a man that had two separate families, five sons in total. After he dies, the boys finally meet at the reading of of will. A funny and enjoyable read as the men come together to fulfill the terms of the will and the stipulation that they all marry during the next six months. This first story is about eldest; his immediate attraction to a woman he meets when he first arrives in town. Her immediate dislike for him is preserved as a challenge that he can't ignore. Their courtship is hilarious as they end up in love and agree to marriage.

Enjoyed this sweet romance about Baxter and Abriella - both battling personal demons. For Baxter it's his absentee father - now dead with a crazy set of stipulations that could cause him to lose everything he's worked hard for. Abriella has found herself the caretaker for her mother who has Parkinson's and her younger college-age brother. The sparks that fly between Baxter and Abriella are crazy. And their first encounter had me laughing out loud... definitely NOT the way you want to meet someone... An enjoyable story. Looking forward to reading more about the brothers as they try to meet Buzz's stipulations or they all lose.

There was an idea but..

There was a decent premise however the execution was poor. This story is suppose to be about Baxter and Abriella and how he needs to marry to keep his land and it would be convenient for her with all her debts, responsibilities, etc. However, the transition from dislike to lust or love whatever you want to call it wasn’t smooth. They don’t seem to really get together until 74% which normally wouldn’t be a problem if it was written with ease . The story felt packed together to get the eventual happy ending but I wouldn’t know because i didn’t finish. At the 74% I could go no more.
