One of the much-loved books of Eileen Caddy (1917-2006), co-founder of the Findhorn Community in Scotland, Opening Doors Within is a perennial meditation diary offering down-to-earth inspirational messages of spiritual guidance for every day of the year. For over 35 years, people have used these practical teachings that offer advice on achieving stillness, faith, and fulfillment. Specific suggestions for your daily spiritual growth and development enhance the impact of the supportive words.
Eileen’s brief messages, from what she called “the still, small voice within,” offer inspirational, uplifting, and powerful words of love and support. Her daily guidance was the bedrock of the early Findhorn Community, and the concept of “inner listening” is still very much part of individual and community practice there today. The encouraging and practical messages speak to those embarking upon the journey to find their divine inner self and spiritual truth. Anyone who meditates--whether inexperienced or seasoned--will find the wisdom shared both insightful and heartening. A new foreword by Jonathan Caddy, Eileen’s son who lives in the Findhorn Community, adds a fresh perspective to the profound influence this guidance can have.
No matter how you use the wisdom shared in this small book, take these teachings into yourself and carry them within you, until they have done their silent, gentle, and loving work of opening the doors within.
A great way to start your day. Each chapter has some unique thought to guide you. I've been coming back to this for years and I plan on continuing to come back fort years to come.
Cine ne-a speriat?
Eileen Caddy was a co-founder of the Findhorn Trust, now the Findhorn Foundation and Findhorn Ecovillage, which are proximate to the Scottish town of Findhorn. The Findhorn Trust was formed after Eileen Caddy, Peter Caddy and Dorothy Maclean, set up an intentional community there in November 1962. Eileen was a channel who transcribed a daily message for the community, usually between two and four in the morning. She channeled messages for 53 years. That material has been harvested for the meditations included in this book, Opening Doors Within: 365 Meditations from Findhorn, copyrights 1986, 2007, and 2019 and published by Findhorn Press. The book actually has 366 meditations in its 412 pages, as it includes a message for February 29th.
Eileen Caddy MBE died in 2006 at the age of 89. She was married twice and had eight children.
The format of the book is as a perennial meditation manual. There is one meditation for each day. Unlike some aspirational journals, these meditations are wordy. Expect at least 200 words a day.
An example: January 3. “Whenever you love, love whole-heartedly, and never be afraid to show your love. Let your love be like an open book that all can read. It is the most wonderful thing in the world, so let the divine love within you flow freely…”
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys daily meditations or reflections, and those who feel a spiritual connection to the Findhorn community.
The new cannot fit into the old mould because the new has ourgrown the old and needs more room. When a plant is pot-bound, it needs to be repotted to allow it's roots to expand. When your conciousness has outgrown the old conceptions, it needs to be allowed to expand into new realms. This process can come about very naturally, simply let go and feel yourself changing and expanding as naturally as breathing, moving out of the old into the new.
Never be like a gramaphone needle that is stuck in a groove repeating the same old mistakes over and over again. When you want to change, you can do it.
I was living at Findhorn when this book was first published in 1987. Eileen's guidance had meant so very much to me, part of what led me to the community.
