Worth the Weight #3

The Bodyguard

Rate this book
JESSE:

I’ve acted in romance movies, but real life has never been this hot.

After an awkward interview leaves me self-conscious about my weight, I need some time away from the celebrity spotlight. I’ve always played the heartbreaker, and I want to love myself the way my fans do, but I haven’t loved my body lately.

Winchester is the perfect place for some soul-searching and waist-trimming. But I need security to keep the paparazzi off my back, and Marshall’s a perfect fit. As long as I can keep my eyes off my straight bodyguard – and the buttered biscuits – I’ll be fine.

But when he makes the first move, the labels get fuzzy. Marshall is a stoic man who’s hard to read, but there’s no mistaking his rough, warm touch when we brush past each other in the cozy lake house. It seems like he might be interested in doing more to my body than just guarding it.

I may be dieting, but it’s not food I want to feast on.

MARSHALL:

He’s under my protection, but I suspect he wants to be under more than that.

Babysit a spoiled Hollywood actor, chase off some paparazzi, and live in a lake house. It should all be easy, and I could use the extra money. I’m not usually aggressive, but I’m protective and I look the part. People know I’m not a pushover, so they don’t try me. But guys like me need love too, and I’ve spent too many nights alone.

Until Jesse.

I can’t tear my eyes off him. He might steal hearts on camera, but he doesn’t need to play a role to steal mine. It’s the first time I’ve ever looked at a man this way, and I want to tempt him into something unprofessional.

Leaving my past behind won’t be easy, but Jesse’s making it hard to look back.

This actor’s so captivating, I can’t think straight.

This is the third book in the Worth the Weight series. It can be enjoyed as a standalone with no cliffhanger. Readers can expect a steamy MM romance with several scenes that will leave you breathless. Heat level: 10.

This is the 3rd book in this series and IMO I think it is the best yet! There is one reason for this that that is Marshall. I absolutely adore this character. We got to meet Marshall in book two of the series and he intrigued me then as I thought he seemed to be the strong and silent type and that there was a lot more going on inside his head than might appear to everyone around him. Boy was I right! This book is about Marshall and Jesse Bradford (of Bannister Heights fame) and their story. Watching these two fascinating men open up to each other was a wonderful, fun and sexy adventure. The author's writing is not only top notch, but the way he continues to use Winchester, SC as an integral character in the story takes these books to another level. If the author continued to set future books in this setting I would never tire of it. Marshall and Jesse are very different, yet in some ways much the same and this makes for one very interesting story watching them grow together the more time they spend with each other. Marshall is my favorite person in this series so far. I wouldn't mind finding someone just like him in real life... cuz he is just awesome. What a truly, couldn't put down, scorching hot, fun and enjoyable read this was!

Mason is my new book boyfriend! I'll fight anyone who tries to take him!

The Bodyguard is the best in this series and Mason is something special. Strong and intimidating with a soft and thoughtful center. Jesse is a down-to-earth Soap Opera star who is drawn to Mason's calm, no-nonsense approach to life. Together they have some steamy fun, beautifully domestic moments, and adventures in the lights of Hollywood.

An enjoyable read of two really well-paired characters. I truly enjoy Jason Collns writing.

Every book I’ve read in this series has made me want more. This is a great story for Marshall. In the other book he came across as more the rough, quiet, stereotypical bouncer. Here I found him to be so much more. He does fit the protector image and surprisingly the soft hearted guy. Jesse on the other hand does not fit the successful actor stereotype. He is too concerned with others and is more a down to earth type person. Together they are characterized as totally different yet they fit so well. This is just a feel good, sexy story that once I started it I had a hard time setting it down. The ending made me happy. The only thing I felt missing was more about Jesse’s background. I felt I just had enough to understand where he came from but not a lot more about him. I hope to see these characters again in future stories in this series.

‘He was impossibly tall and broad, with bulging biceps and a no nonsense scowl’

Well, he’s arrived at the top! Handsome Southern born author Jason Collins now lives in New York and as he states ’I've started calling myself a “southern New Yorker”. Jason has over twenty successful novels to his credit so far. He is no longer a promising young author: he is an accepted success – and well deserved.

Jason takes a fresh look at ‘improbable romances’ and in doing so helps us to understand how love can conquer all! His characters are very well painted and interesting people, and the situations in which he elects to place them may be familiar (a man whose let his body go and a perfectly fit Adonis), but Jason’s manner of using that theme works very well indeed. In WEIGHT FOR LOVE Jason explores the physical fitness arena – finding the core of a relationship that is, yes, physical, but even more important, emotionally committed.

The synopsis provides a fine overview of the novel’s story by providing he stance of each of the two characters, Jesse and Marshall: ‘Jesse - Romance is a part I’ve been playing for years, but love is a new role. After an awkward interview leaves me self-conscious about my weight, I need some time away from the celebrity spotlight. I’ve always played the heartbreaker on screen, but I want to be as happy with my body as my fans are. Winchester is the perfect place for some soul-searching—and waist-trimming. But I need security to keep the paparazzi off my back, and Marshall’s a perfect fit. As long as I can keep my eyes off my straight bodyguard and the buttered biscuits, I’ll be fine. But when he makes the first move, those labels get fuzzy. Marshall is a stoic man who’s hard to read, but there’s no mistaking his rough, warm touch as we fog the windows of the cozy lake house. Turns out, he’s a perfect fit in more ways than one. My bodyguard is more than meets the eyes—lucky he’s the one thing I can feast them on. Marshall - He’s under my protection, and I’m not letting this star out of my gaze. Babysit a spoiled Hollywood actor, chase off some paparazzi, live in a lake house—it should all be easy, and I could use the extra money. I’m not usually aggressive, but people call me a “big tank” for a reason: they know I’m not a pushover, so they don’t try me. And when I need to release some tension, I keep my thoughts strictly off my clients. Until Jesse. I can’t tear my eyes off him. He might steal hearts on stage, but he doesn’t need a TV show to steal mine. It’s the first time I’ve ever looked at a man this way, and I want to tempt him into something unprofessional. Leaving my past behind won’t be easy, but Jesse’s making it hard to look back. This actor’s so captivating, I can’t think straight.

To set the tone, Jason opens his story with the following – ‘I couldn’t keep the smile off my face as I walked up the rickety-looking wooden front steps of the restaurant. It was
a gorgeous, bright, sunny day in the rural town of Winchester, South Carolina, and I was starved after getting in late from a series of delayed flights last night. As it turned out, flying from the star-studded hills of Hollywood all the way to a sleepy, picturesque country town in the South was not a direct path in the slightest. I was still feeling a little groggy and jet-lagged, having traveled through several time zones to get here, but as an actor, I was used to that. The sun was out, there wasn’t a single cloud in the bright blue sky, and I could hear birds chittering and chirping in the trees, even in the parking lot of the restaurant. I considered that a pretty good sign. The only birds I ever encountered in Los Angeles were hyper aggressive seagulls who would be just as comfortable swiping a French fry right out of your mouth as they would be flying through the fires of hell. And then there were the omnipresent pigeons. And the exotic pet birds who would routinely escape from the homes of the eccentric Hollywood elite.’

Well plotted at a fine pace, Jason’s new novel has zing! And he has provided a very apropos title for third volume of his WORTH THE WEIGHT series! His writing style is secure and sophisticated. Novels well written – that is why he is enjoying the top of the heap!

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the third book in the Worth the Weight series. In this book, Jesse is an actor who is on a very popular soap opera and decides to take a vacation to relax and try to get back in shape. Jesse rents a lake house in Winchester and decides he needs a body guard after a photographer tries to take his picture. Jesse wants to hire someone local and runs an ad. Many people apply and just when Jesse has given up, Marshall shows up. Marshall is a big guy and usually works as a bouncer at the local bar. Marshall had lived in Atlanta for years working security before returning to his hometown. Marshall had seen Jesse earlier at the local diner and stopped the photographer. Jesse was attracted to Marshall, but he didn't think he was gay. Marshall accepted the job as his bodyguard and moved into the lake house. Marshall took his job seriously and installed extra cameras and security measures. Jesse and Marshall became friends and Marshall found himself enjoying Jesse's company. Marshall was a quiet guy and Jesse seemed to bring him out of his shell. They soon acted on their attraction to one another and settled into a nice routine. Marshall was never with a man before, but he knew he liked Jesse and wanted to be with him. Things go well until it is time for Jesse to return to LA and Marshall is wondering what to do next career wise. Marshall has an offer for a job and thinks about taking it, only he knows he will not be with Jesse anymore. I really liked this book. Jesse and Marshall were great together. I loved how they connected so quickly and Marshall accepted the fact he wanted to be with a man like it was no big deal and never questioned himself. I also like how Marshall's friends accepted him with Jesse. I think they were so loving together. Great one.

Love this series!

Wow! After reading the first two books of this series, I never in a million years thought Marshall, the bouncer at The Chisel bar would get his own book. But this author brings him to life in a big way.

But first, enter front and center heart throb, Jesse Blackwood better known to his fans as Adrian Bannister from the soap opera Bannister Heights. Jesse flees the glitz and glamour of LA to the scenic and more slow paced town of Winchester, SC for some much needed R&R, and also to get himself in shape after putting on a few pounds.

Soon after a paparazzo incident at one of my fave diners, Beulah’s Biscuit, Jesse decides to hire a bodyguard out of the local pool of men in Winchester. He interviews quite a few but none seem to have the experience he requires until one last truck pulls up....hmmmm...wonder who that could be? Why boy howdy, it’s Marshall Hawkins! Now the story of Marshall and Jesse really begins. Boom chucka lucka boom. Be still my heart.

I love this series and this is my fave book of the series. To be honest each book so far has been my fave, lol. This author really knows how to make me feel like I’m right there amidst everything and everyone I’ve come to love in this town. I love revisiting Winchester where I get to hang out with Miss Nancy and the gang. Most of all, I love the romance. I love the boy meets boy. I love the heart palpitations and the butterflies in my stomach. I love the feels.

And speaking of feels, I have a feeling there’s going to be at least one more book. Pretty please?!

Jason Collins is one of the authors I can count on for an enjoyable book. The Bodyguard is the third book in his Worth The Weight series, and I love it.

Jesse's a Hollywood actor who hires Marshall to be his bodyguard. The sexual tension and heat between the two is high.

Jesse and Marshall certainly make no sense together, but they are a fantastic couple. Marshall's desire for Jesse is intense and all consuming. His dominate attitude in the bedroom is sexy and hot.

It's beautiful the way that Jesse helps Marshall to go outside his comfort zone. In turn, Marshall inspires Jesse to his the best version of himself in all the important ways.

I absolutely adore Marshall's mom. She's wonderful and it goes to show why Marshall is such an amazing man.

As with the entire Worth The Weight series, the small town is a perfect setting and adds immensely to the tale. Best of all, I love the small town comparison to Hollywood that Jesse experiences.

In this series, weight is always an issue. In this case, Jesse is trying to watch his weight and get into better shape. He's a victim of the Hollywood attitude and is fully aware of the camera adding 10 pounds.

The Bodyguard is a fantastic Bodyguard/Celebrity romance, where each find what they never knew they needed. It's super sweet, tender, and romantic. In typical Jason Collins fashion, the characters are interesting and well developed, with a great story to tell and some wonderful personal growth.

Best Yet

We met Max in the previous book as a member of the alumni football team and bouncer at The Chisel bar. As for Jesse, we never met him formally but his long time role as a bad boy in a TV soap opera star has many of the small town of Winchester, South Carolina over the moon when it appears that he has chosen their hamlet as a vacation and get-back-into-shape spot.

How they meet (cute) and how Max becomes Jesse's bodyguard and how they get into a hot relationship has the same big hole that Jason Collins has in the first two books of this series. We sort of know soon that Jesse (on the cover) is gay--but if he is and he's open how has he survived the potential vicious bigotry of Hollywood, where he lives and works? And after their initial encounter we learn that Max has always been straight, but we don't know that until he sort of admits it to us in an aside or two, and hardly even mentions it to Jesse until they get really serious.

I gave the first two books in this series four instead of five stars for this kind of omission, but this one gets five stars first because it's so well written and then because it's so sweet and cute and there really isn't any angsty stuff they have to deal with. It's a book that could be a television special because in the end everything is acceptable and everyone is happy.

Waiting for the next one.

Could the body Marshall's guarding be any more perfect?!😜

Another 🔥hot🔥 and sultry MM pairing with minimal angst but lots of passionate clinches. This is the third book I've read in this Jason Collins series and the romance keeps turning out new couples in the sleepy, small Southern 🏡🏠 town of Winchester.

Jesse the vacationing actor has great good fortune in finding the perfect bodyguard to keep his downtime 📷 paparazzo-free almost the first minute he steps in town. I liked Jesse's enthusiasm and Marshall's strong and silent persona. Great chemistry!

I think a little more drama re: Marshall's past or the need for a bodyguard would have upped my enjoyment of the story, but it's nevertheless well-written and features great main and secondary characters. Collins does not skimp on the intimacy and, somehow, manages to work in some tips on healthy living as Jesse chases his goal of a tighter, trimmer waistline to take back to his next season of daytime television drama. And the ending had a bit of a twist regarding Marshall's career prospects and a happy Winchester surprise.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.

OMGosh! Southern living never felt, tasted, or looked so good
I knew that there was more to Marshall than meets the eye and when Jessie comes into the picture, it's good to see him transform from the gruff, solemn, no-nonsense mountain of a man, to this sweet, charming, tell it like it is, drool-worthy bodyguard who not only goes antiquing with his mum, I lost count of all the times he walks around in the buff.
I live for the pace of the story and the twists and turns lurking in practically every chapter were a welcome surprise. I would have never guessed that Marshall had lived in Atlanta for 10 years, or that Jessie's a TV star. He was every bit the boy next door and so down to earth, he might as well have been a Winchesterite.
Awesome character development, and a writing style that’s compelling enough to keep me coming back for more. The book ends with an enticing invitation to a wedding, but I’m not at all disappointed, because Mr. Collins is so talented at delivering, I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in this series.

Marshall and Jesse’s story has all the feels! This is a beautifully written story about characters that you will fall in love with. It is steamy, intimate, heartfelt love story that will keep you glued to your kindle until the last

i had really liked Marshall from the previous book and i am so glad that we got to see so much depth in his character. Jesse was also a surprisingly delightful character and i enjoyed how he noticed everything from the birds, the food to the feelings of love. These guys are so great together.

i also really enjoyed the details of the security that Marshall put in place to protect Jesse. It was imaginative and logical.

One of my favorite quotes from the book is:
'As unlikely as it had seemed from the start, we were now like one combined presence,;,,,

Nice read with HEA

Easy read about Jesse and Marshall. Jesse is a LA based sitcom actor that is on rest in the lovely (sounding) Winchester. Marshall is a broody dark quiet hunk that generally bouncers at the pub, however ends up working for Jesse in this tale. The story is nice and believable. Like the previous 2 books in the series, there's a straight guy falling for a gay guy with little drama and self reflection. I'm not convinced it would be that seamless, especially when there's no mention of Marshall checking out/ developing feelings for men previously. Jesse character initally came across rather self deprecating, almost using humour to deflect his feelings. The story progresses nicely, they do lots of couple stuff; going on dates, exercise, cook, enjoy plenty of sex.

I'd give the book 3stars, it's a nice easy read.

“Sometimes, someone comes into your life so unexpectedly, takes your heart by surprise, and changes your life forever.” ~ Nishan Panwar

Jesse came to the small town of Winchester to find some peace and quiet, away from the craziness of Hollywood. He is looking forward to being anonymous for a while and living like a normal person. Unfortunately, a photographer recognizes him and invades his privacy by taking pictures of him without his permission. Fortunately, one of the locals, Marshall, is there having lunch with his mom and comes to Jesse’s rescue, making the photographer erase the pictures. Jesse is eternally grateful to his knight in shining armor and hopes to see him again.

After that, Jesse decides he needs a bodyguard. He thinks that it will be advantageous to hire someone local, who knows the area. Jesse isn’t having much luck finding anyone suitable and is almost ready to give up and have his manager send someone from one of the security services they usually use. As he’s ready to make the call, he hears someone coming up his driveway. Jesse is pleasantly surprised and relieved when he sees that it is Marshall, a man who has already proved he can handle difficult situations. Jesse knows that he is going to hire Marshall, but he goes through the motions of interviewing and giving him a tour, and explaining his duties, one of which is to live there during his employment.

Marshall takes the job of protecting Jesse seriously. He is nothing like the distant, arrogant diva that Marshall expects. Jesse is down-to-earth, kind, appreciative, and easy to get along with. Marshall has never been with a man before, but he has a surprisingly strong attraction to Jesse, yet he is determined to keep it to himself. When he learns that Jesse feels the same way, they fall into a comfortable, considerate physical relationship. Things are fine for a while, until Marshall overhears Jesse talking to his manager about a deal of a lifetime that entails Jesse coming back weeks before he is supposed to. At this point, Marshall withdraws to keep himself from being any more heartbroken that he will already be.

I enjoyed seeing Marshall again. He was a mysterious person in the last story, but he seemed like a nice guy. It was interesting to learn more about him. It was good to be able to visit with the other characters in the series as well. I really liked Jesse and was thrilled that he was so atypical from what I usually thought for a movie star. He was so considerate with Marshall and so levelheaded. It was refreshing. Thanks, Jason, for helping Marshall finding the happiness he deserved.

Ugh... 99c Special

Granted, I have not read the others in this seriesbut it really wasn't necessary. There was only brief mentions of the other characters. That I like. A book should stand on its own feet rather than drag other books forward.

This book was strange to me. Marshall jumped into this awfully fast for a straight guy. Jesse mentioned other lovers but Im guessing they might have been men rather than women.

Its odd being set in SC due to the fact that this state isnt always known for tolerance. (Charleston isnt the whole state, people). Yet here in small town SC, they dont care. This town should have been call Fantasy rather than Winchester.

The Bodyguard by Jason Collins is the third book in the Worth The Weight series. Jesse is taking a break from Hollywood and trying to find himself, and maybe get I. Better shape. Marshall comes on as his bodyguard and discovers a new desire for men. Together, thesemen bring us a great story that keeps your attention and makes you crave more. Hot, steamy sexy scenes... sweet and tender moments... suspense and action... a few funny moments... overall a satisfying read.

I've been curious about Marshall since he was introduced. Stoic, quiet and yet there seemed to be much more under the surface. This gay for you romance really let him shine. Upon meeting Jesse, things shift for Marshall. He's drawn to the genuinely sweet, kind guy that Jesse is. It was wonderful to see the whole town not only give Jesse space from his fame to be himself, but they openly welcomed the two of them as a couple. There is very little angst and a sweet ending to leave me with a huge smile.

Wow, Jason Collins is knocking it out of the park with this series.
In my review of book no. 2 I mentioned that I was intrigued by a certain actor moving to town, and, boy, was I right to be!
Jesse Blackwood is a Southern boy turned to LA actor, but you know you can't get the South out of the boy!
Though Marshall may apparently be Jesse's complete opposite, they match and gel together so perfectly that it's as though they were always meant to be together!
Wishful thinking: perhaps a spin-off series with Marshall 's new security men in LA?

Jesse had just arrived in Winchester and was being harassed by a paparazzo when Marshall saw what was happening and rescued him. Marshall had previous experience working as security and thought he'd apply for the bodyguard job Jesse had posted after lots of prodding from people at The Chisel. Jesse and Marshall had so much in common despite outward appearances. They were so unbelievable sweet together and every time Jesse saw Marshall interact with his mother, Jesse's heart just melted.

This is the third book in this series and is a story about never knowing when or where you will find the one for you.
This is a series that is getting better with each book and this one is not the exception, Jesse and Marshall are so sweet together tipifying southern charm, but the scenes in the bedrrom, hallway, kitchen you get the idea are so hawt.
It was lovely to see previous couples and characters from the series in this book as the town of Winchester grows, hopefully we get to read about the up coming nuptials, I can't wait to see where we go and with whom in the next book.

The Bodyguard, Worth the Weight book Three by Jason Collins. The characters in this story really grabbed me. Two evenings when I went to sleep my mind carried on the story. Both times it went very dark. Stories I wouldn’t even want to read. Both times I was so glad when I woke up. Glad that the story was so much better than my dreams. I’m loving this series especially the characters, but the storylines are fantastic also!

Jesse has come to Winchester as a sabbatical, to rest from his life as a soap opera actor. Marshall saves him from a papparazzi and guess who's starstruck? Their relationship was so sweet. Marshall has a secret past but he will protect Jesse at all cost. Jesse will have to go back to LA sometime but he doesn't want to go alone anymore. It's great to read about Carter and Mark and Ms Nancy and the rest of the characters from past books. Love the HEA and the nice surprise at the end.

Loved this series!

Lately, I’ve been obsessed with reading Jason Collins romances. This series made me fall in love with the small town of Winchester and its couples. Mark and Carter, Mason and Tyler and Jesse and Marshall are all good Southern boys with good and loving hearts. Each romance was different yet with a universal message of loving someone for who they are inside! This series was awesome! I plan on continuing to read romances by Jason Collins!

This is the third book and my favorite of the series. It would definitely work as a standalone. I loved Marshall and Jesse's story, with just the right combination of sweet and sexy scenes. These characters were so likeable, with great chemistry. Can't wait to read whatever this author writes next, but it might be hard to top this one.

The Bodyguard (Worth the Weight Book 3)

Another short sweet story. A classic really, the celebrity and the bodyguard. A kinda GFY in a way but totally void of angst, drama and all that. It just seemed all natural, easy and unreal all at the same time.
It worked for me ^^

I'll keep reading 📖

This is a new to me author.. I liked this one quite a bit. Maybe not a full 4 stars... maybe somewhere between 3.5 and 4. I do feel like Marshall needed to have more a freak out about his newfound gay status, but that's just me. I may just feel like that due to his lack of words. All in all, enjoyed this author!

This one is better than the previous two. Marshall is the most interesting character and his ease to be with a man was so mature and handled so well. He went for it. We also discover new facets to his personality, this book is really all him. The dynamic between the MC's in this one feels more organic and real too. I liked this one better.
