Knowledge

“What you know and what you believe about a matter”.

Just what this little quick read gave to me. I never could quite understand how Satan ruled the world because of Adam’s sin. Couldn’t quite grasp how authority was transferred. But GOD, through this short and simple teaching tool, has enabled to gain the proper understanding I long desired about what occurred in Genesis.

Thank you Pastor Evans

This is a short three-chapter book. Maybe it is just me, but I think a three-chapter manuscript is the perfect size for a Christian nonfiction book. I didn't have time to get bored. That feeling of tedium never arrived. I enjoyed the entire book.

The author described the situation, gave us necessary information about the opposition, then finished with the solution. All this was concisely stated with some good stories that illustrated his points. I finished the book feeling I learned something that will stay with me and assist me the rest of my life.

Spiritual warfare isn't always an easy topic to discuss or explain, but Evans does a good job of walking through scripture and giving real life story examples to get the message across. First book I have read by him and very pleased to see it was scripture based.

A decent primer on spiritual warfare. I don't agree with all of his theology. He also writes as though instant victory in spiritual battles is guaranteed if only you fully follow Jesus. While I do agree that Jesus is the answer and has ultimately won the war, we can't pretend like all our spiritual battles will be won that quickly and easily. Some struggles we will not overcome in this life. Sometimes God allows even those who follow him fiercely to endure some insanely painful spiritual warfare, and we don't always understand why. See the book of Job.

Also, Dr. Evans mentions certain specific struggles (depression, addiction, gender identity expression) in a way that reads as though he only attributes them to demonic interference. This isn't helpful to people who actually struggle with these things. Is there a spiritual aspect? Perhaps. But don't tell somebody who's struggling with such things that if only they followed Jesus better in their whole lives, he would help them overcome. So many Christians who struggle with these things already look to Jesus more than most. So many have been begging for relief for years. The language used in this book could hurt these people more than help them.

That said, there are some very helpful metaphors in here for understanding spiritual warfare, and the overall message of remembering that spiritual war is real but Jesus is ultimately victorious is clearly made.

Dr. Evans digs deep into the Spiritual warfare all around us, showing how we can be in trouble (and if it's a situation we've put ourselves into how to avoid it), favorite tactics of the enemy, counters we should take and reminders of the status of the battle (Satan has lost, he just wants to take you down with him).

This is a really short book; in many ways, it's things a long time Christian will have been told before, or may think is "obvious", but Dr. Evans both puts it in higher theological terms and breaks it down to the layman level so that it really is a read you want to break up and really consider instead of zipping through this pamphlet sized 62 pages. I'm guessing it is also a good intro for his longer work Victory in Spiritual Warfare, though I haven't read that yet. This wasn't a five star read for me, but I think that's more on me than the book, as I didn't feel I had the attention span to get the most out of it I could have (and Dr. Evans loves his football and basketball analogies, which are not my sports) and I fully intend to put this on my re-read pile (or maybe go to the bigger book). If you have any interest in this subject matter, I would definitely recommend it!

No language issues; temptations and consequences are detailed, including sensual and violent topics, but in a matter-of-fact statement way more than a gory details shock factor way.

This short book on spiritual warfare is packed with a lot of great insights and powerful truths. Even things you may have already known before in theory are worded and presented in such an eye-opening way that you feel that whereas erstwhile you only knew them in passing, you now have a firm understanding of them. I also really appreciated the imagery and examples he used. He illustrated his points in such clear, easy-to-understand ways that really helped you to grasp the things he said.

Spiritual warfare is real, and sadly, though it's so important, not many people take it seriously or understand it enough. This is a good introduction to it, and even those who aren't new to spiritual warfare can benefit from reading this. I learned some new things and also relearned things I hadn't really thought much about in a while. It was a good reminder of God's amazingness (is that a word? Don't know.) and superiority, the authority we have been given on this Earth, and the victory we have already gained through Christ. Would highly recommend. ❤️

This quote from the book opened by eyes: “Satan pursues his agenda by intentionally penetrating the same four realms that God works through to manifest His glory: the individual, the family, church, and society.” “If Satan can divide the body of Christ along class, racial, gender and personality lines, he can deceive entire churches into making governmental and functioning decisions based on personal partiality rather than on God’s viewpoint.”

Satan is really work hard if you look around at our society. Stand firm in your faith and with Jesus Christ at the Cross - where victory took place.

My husband heard Tony Evans speak at a Promise Keepers event many years ago so we decided to read this (heavily) abridged version of Evans’ Victory in Spiritual Warfare. Considering the state of chaos our country - the world - is in right now, it is very easy for me to believe that a war is going on in the spiritual realm. Though I did not really learn anything new about the subject from this book, I did appreciate the different perspective on battles in the heavenlies. I did get a little weary of the football terminology/analogies which is why I held back on a fifth star, but otherwise this was well worth the little time it took to read it.

Awesome!

What an awesome short but very informative book on explaining what is going on in our world, behind the scenes in the invisible realm, today. The invisible realm is real, more real then what we see in the physical realm. If we are not accessing our sixth sense, our spiritual sense, we are going to be duped, beaten up and destroyed by our enemy, the devil. Most of the things that we experience in the physical realm have a spiritual root, and Dr. Evans does a great job explaining this so vital information.

This is an exceptional short read on spiritual warfare. Nothing new was learned but the way it was worded in this book gave me a fresh perspective. This is a good one to keep w/ you to pull out when you need a reminder of what we're really fighting and where the real battle is taking place. Highly recommend.

Short & Fantastic

Tony Evans has written a great short book that hits all of the points necessary to understand our victory in Christ. If you are looking for a quick but informative book on spiritual battles, grab this one. I picked it up for less than $2. You can’t get a good cup of coffee for less than two bucks, but you can get a great book.

Given recent events of the world around us, I am reminded more and more of the spiritual warfare that happens daily. This was a good reminder about standing firm and not being afraid, but knowledgeable and alert.

Quality over quantity when it come to the words in this book. This was a quick read and only three chapters long, but those pages explained how to navigate spiritual warfare, according to Scripture. This book helped to solidify my faith, and I was pleasantly surprised with this book.

Short booklet of just three chapters. The first chapter deals with the nature of the battle. The second chapter deals with the opposition in the battle. And the third chapter is the strategy for the battle. Tony Evans lays it out and it’s clear and helpful.

This was a good book with a good grasp on spiritual warfare. Definitely written with a Western and specifically American worldview, but insightful and worthwhile regardless.

Exactly what I needed in this season. I may have to go back to it from time to time. It really helped me to understand and identify the armor and tools available to me in this battle. God be with me as I put them on and learn how to fight.
