The evil Mephisto is still on the prowl, and he hopes to bring the city of Nirvana to its knees by controlling its people with a hypnotizing gas. Now that Damocles, the great superhero, is gone, who can stop this villain? Eddie Hertz, a twelve-year-old genius, and his sister, an eight-year-old super-powered girl named Samantha, have a plan-lure Mephisto into a trap by using themselves and Eddie's superhero invention as bait.

Bryan and his wife, Susie, have homeschooled their four girls and three boys.

Bryan was born in 1958 and grew up in the eastern U.S. From the time he taught himself how to read before school age, through his seminary years and beyond, he has demonstrated a passion for the written word, reading and writing in many disciplines and genres, including fantasy, theology, fiction, devotionals, poetry, and humor.

Such a fun, lighthearted story! So heartwarming and precious, while still action-packed and engaging.

These books are great middle grade reads. Highly recommend for superhero-loving kids. (Or those who are kids at heart and need a break from angsty YA novels.)

Another enjoyable read!

Just like Wanted: A Superhero to Save the World, Hertz to Be a Hero is a funny middle grade book about superheros and what it really means to be a hero.

Sometimes it hurts. Sometimes it does not look as glamorous as you thought it would. Sometimes it means sticking by your mates to the end.

Another amazing middle grade read from Bryan Davis.
Eddie and Sam are as tenacious as they are in the first book, and more determined than ever to stop Mephisto.

A smattering of the things I loved:
-The family-centric relationships were refreshing to see in the superhero genre
-The kids were the main heroes without a) hogging the spotlight and b) having to defy all of the adults in their lives for the “greater good” cuz kids are so much smarter than their guardians all the time (Can you tell that trope annoys me?)
-Gilbert speaks bird
-“Anna”grams :P
-Mephisto! Appropriately conniving and diabolical as a bad guy should be, without pushing the story into the territory of YA/mature YA

This series is so fun! My daughter loves it and I love reading it to her! Thankful for stories like this to teach kids that bravery comes not from an absence of fear, but from looking fear in the face and doing the hard things any ways. Mistakes don’t mean you’re finished. And superheroes don’t have to have superPOWERS to be SUPERheroes!

Another great book by Bryan Davis!
One thing that I really liked about this book that's different from Davis' other books, is that it's not as dark or heavy.
Definitely an enjoyable read and I would recommend it to any middle-grade superhero fans.
