I really needed to get serious and concentrate on my writing, but the barista behind the counter at my fav coffee shop is not making it easy. The guy is drop dead gorgeous. I’m talking six-pack abs, broad chest, and oozing sex appeal. In other words, way out of my league!
Then he finds my flash drive and reads the start of my book! I want to die. I’m a nice girl. Really, I am, but I have very naughty thoughts.
When I discover he’s actually a famous writer and offers to help, how can I say no? His help means I might actually escape my demonic boss, and living with my evil twin sisters (no lie! I’m talking straight out of f**king Cinderella evil).
But just how far am I willing to let him go when I stumble over the love scenes?
Jaxson:
I’ve never seen anyone with worse fashion sense than Katie. But as she sat at one of the tables in the coffee shop, laptop open, she removed those god-awful black glasses and nibbled her bottom lip. Then she smiled and transformed before my eyes.
I want her.
Can’t have her. She’s not that type.
Then I find and read her flash drive and discover there’s a whole other side to her beneath those baggy clothes and ugly glasses. She only needs a little help. Especially with her love scenes.
I should probably keep the relationship strictly platonic.
Nope, not going to happen.
This is book one in a brand new series of steamy, contemporary romantic comedies from USA Today bestselling author Karen Kelley.
Karen Kelley always had a secret desire to live the life of a Gypsy. So she and her husband quit their jobs, sold their house, decluttered their lives and moved into their 5th wheel RV. Now they're traveling the United States. She works full time on her writing and spends her downtime walking on the beach or hiking in the mountains. Her motto has always been 'Who says you can't have it all.'
3.5 stars for the beginning of a sweet new series. I'm not a complete newbie to this author. Karen Kelly always delivers with entertaining reads. This new series has the potential to be really great as this author has given us not one, not two, but three hunky men to fall head over heels for. This first is Jaxon and Katie's story. Katie stole my heart with her adorable geekiness. She's struggling to find her way in the world while wrestling with the clock to still find time to do what she really loves. All while dealing with a difficult family situation. Jaxon has it all it seems. That is until a cute geeky girl captures his attention, and tilts his carefully arranged world on it's axis. Unleash The Fire is sweet and funny and completely lovable. It also has some really good advice for the want to be author. This book was a little Cinderella-ish in my opinion, but still different enough to be entertaining and keep me flipping pages. The heat between Katie and Jaxon was there, but for me the chemistry was a little cool and perhaps a bit forced in the beginning. However, I still really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to more of this new series. Thank you Karen Kelly for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I adored this book. From the very first page, I was hooked and laughing. I couldn't stop reading to find out what happened next. Katie is a relatable character to me, quiet but loving. She likes to keep people happy including her twin sisters that treat her like Cinderella in the beginning. She meets Jaxson in the coffee shop and forgets her flash drive. He reads her work and decides he wants to help her as he's a bestselling author as well. The two bond over their love of reading and writing and eventually Katie starts working for him. Katie accompanies Jaxon on a business trip and meets Jaxon's brothers where things start to come to a head. Jaxon must decide if this is just business or if he has developed feelings for Katie. Katie must decide if she has feelings for Jaxon or if she's allowing Jaxon to mold her into something she's not as she's struggling to find her identity. With enough swoon, laughter, and a HEA, I adored this book.
I absolutely adored this beautiful story! It was so romantic, sexy, cute and engrossing! I loved the characters, all of them were so unique and interesting. The storyline is really good... I really enjoyed finding out how a book is worked out and put together.... That alone was compelling. When you read a book you don't think about what goes into creating the perfect story that will grab your readers.... That is certainly what Karen Kelley accomplished with this book.... I also really like epilogues at the end of the story and she came through in that detail too!!!!! I highly recommend you give this book a try. I can't wait to read about the other brothers.
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more in this series. Katie was particularly entertaining. She’s kind of nerdy and has little self confidence; she has a tendency to being a doormat. Jaxson is HOT, rich, confident and is attracted to Katie but he’s not sure why. Their relationship seems to be advancing nicely until words said and words heard destroy everything.
While 99% of this story was great, I felt the ending was not. Yes, they get their happily ever after but it felt contrived and was an afterthought. The building of the relationship was well documented but their time apart and reconnection was practically nonexistent. It was like a Reader’s Digest version of the ending.
1. Book 1: Dangling Participle?: 5 stars I received a free copy of Unleash The Fire: Unleashed Series book 1 aka Dangling Participle?: The Hayes Brothers : Book 1 by Karen Kelley and this review was given freely. Caught between a demanding boss and demanding sisters, part time romance novelist Katie tries to unleash and express her inner steamy side only to be frustrated by writer's block and lack of time to write. Her only solace is her favorite coffee shop where she finds inspiration in the form of coffee shop heir and renowned suspense novelist Jaxson Hayes. This full length novel is well written, easy flowing, humorous, erotic and steamy as well as a good tutorial for a budding writer.
I enjoyed this story and am looking forward to reading Jaxson’s brothers stories. I didn’t want to like Katie’s sisters, but Karen Kelley wrote their secondary characters in such a way that I am now hoping they each get their own story.
Enjoyed this book, but the ending was just too rushed. I give this 3.5 stars because I liked the brothers so much. I felt the chemistry with the characters, but not thre love. Quick read, will try book two because I really did like the brothers.
I had never read a book by Karen Kelley but this author had me hooked on the first two pages. Romantic, funny. Great sex done in a very tasteful way. Just purchased the second book! Excellent writing! You won't go wrong purchasing this one!
Great story full of humor, a strong, independent heroine, and a really hot hero. Karen has hit it out of the ballpark once again. Can't wait for the rest of the series.
Karen Kelley’s Unleash the Fire (Unleash Series Book 1)
I read for pleasure but also travel and am on the road a lot, so I love a romance that makes me laugh, draws me in and is a quick read...Unleash the Fire was perfect! I was chuckling within the first few pages, felt myself starting to get indignant at times, to smack a few people upside the head to rattle some sense into them and was smiling by the end. A nice beach read, or the perfect e-reader companion for your summer travel! (As a side benefit for you inspiring writers, some nice pointers added throughout since the main characters are both writers!)
I received an Advanced Copy and am voluntarily reviewing.
